In this sequel to the first game, the Hell's Gate is still wide open and to seal it for good, the 'Sealing Maiden' is required to sacrifice her life. Kaede, Moriya, Yuki and Okina tried to search for this Maiden, with several surprises in tow. A madman called Setsuna, who claims to be a "Messenger from Afar," wants to kill everyone, and the trio's master, Gaisei, was reborn into Kohryu and is plotting to open Hell's Gate as well as let spirits akin to Setsuna enter the world. Luckily for Kaede, not only is he the Seiryuu power holder (Okina's obviously Genbu), the Heavens has sent back Kagami to the mortal world, on the humans' side in a Redemption Quest, and the holder of the Byakko's power, Naoe Shigen, previously Brainwashed and Crazy by Kagami, is now also back to his senses and the formation of The Four Gods power holder are complete. Unfortunately for Kaede, the Sealing Maiden is actually Yuki and she resolves to sacrifice herself.
Life or Death! Bout 2 - Slash!
- Actually a Doombot: If you perform a kill strike on Akari in the second game, you find out what you "killed" was actually one of her shikigami. She then appears on the side wall you're facing and either taunts you for the bisection kill, or for the other kill strikes she falls out of a portal unconscious but alive. Hibiki will still react to it as she would a kill strike,
if only to show you that even she realizes how far she'd go. - The Bad Guy Wins: If Setsuna kills Kohryu and Yuki pre-maturely, he will be victorious in the gate to Hell remaining open with no one to seal it.
- Bittersweet Ending:: Hell's Gate is closed, humanity is no longer being threatened and the Four Guardians completed their duty (and Kagami successfully redeemed himself). However, Yuki sacrificed her life to seal the Hell's Gate and so, Kaede had to spend the rest of his life moving on with the death of his childhood friend and master.
- Bifauxnen: Kojiroh. To help it along, she's also a Sweet Polly Oliver with a Tomboyish Name. Only when adopting her brother's identity. She has a feminine name otherwise (Kaori).
- Downer Ending: Finishing II with Setsuna is badass in an evil way, but it sets an utterly bleak future for the timeline. He murdered both Yuki and Kohryu without the proper sealing ritual. Which means, Hell's Gate is still open and cannot be closed, and Setsuna has free reign to either murder more or call forth his fellow demons to ravage the land more, and not even the Four Guardians can stop him.
- Gainax Ending: Mukuro's ending in the second game. He, uh notices that gravity doesn't suddenly affect him anymore and spends the rest of the credits swimming through the skies until he is knocked out by the THE END sign. This is even turned into a mini-game in the portable version!
- Hero Killer: In Setsuna's ending, he kills Kohryu and Yuki before the Hellgate can be sealed, leading to one of the worst endings in the game.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Yuki dies in the end of the second game to seal the Hellgate.
- Killed Off for Real: Yuki seals the gate to Hell for good, but she dies seemingly for good as well.
- Nasal Weapon: Juzoh has a special attack in which he sneezes. Not only does it knock his opponent over, it deals damage. Yes, you can be defeated by getting sneezed on.
- Naked Vulnerability: When Yuki performs a sacrificial ritual to seal the Hellgate, she's completely naked during the process which culminates in her death once the ritual succeeds.
- Palette Swap: In the second game, changing your fighting style between Power and Speed changes your color scheme. The default color of each characters is the Power color. Might spell bad news if you like the default colors, but your character plays better in Speed (e.g: Lee)
- Sweet Polly Oliver: LB2!Kojiroh, who turns of to be Kaori Sanada, the sister of the Kojiroh from the original.
