Hit Single is a Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod created and directed by Churgney Gurgney along with a team of artists, coders, charters, etc.

The mod itself consists of songs made by Churgney Gurgney that he considers to be his "Hit Singles", some of which were intended for other mods, but were moved to this one after said other mods got cancelled. A hidden game called Garn47 was included in previous builds as a means to unlock more songs in Freeplay but was removed due to its creator leaving the mod's development team. It still exists as a standalone download on itch.io.

Currently, the mod is in Pre-Alpha, with more songs planned for the future.

Tropes:

• Abnormal Limb Rotation Range: Yourself twists his torso a full 360-degrees on a few occasions throughout "Silly Billy", notably when he transforms into a closer imitation of Boyfriend and later during his lyrical segment.
• Adaptational Seriousness: Dust Man from the original Mega Man 4 was just a sanitation robot whose stage was a desolate and somewhat ominous location. Dust Man in "Let There Be Light" is, much like the fan music video the song is based on, characterized as a morose robot Grim Reaper, serving as the gravekeeper for the machines Mega Man has killed, asking if he believes his just cause will save him from his mortality.

• Affectionate Nickname: Implied. The dev team has also taken to calling Yourself "Silly Billy," after the song. The thumbnail of the official upload has text saying "She calls me" between the words of the song title, implying that Herself used to call her Boyfriend "Silly Billy" as an affectionate pet name.
• Alternate Self: Yourself is a version of Boyfriend whose Girlfriend died, after which he went through some sort of dark transformation.
• Animation Bump: Near the end of "Silly Billy," as Yourself starts speaking, his motions are fully animated.
• Armored Villains, Unarmored Heroes: "Darnell Wet Fart" has Mr. Krabs invert this by fighting Starvedward in his anti-ghost outfit, meaning he's armored by a barrel, metal band, and eye caps. Starvedward, on the other hand, is in his regular attire. Not that Mr. Krabs' armor is gonna do a damn thing to protect him in terms of gameplay, though.
• Art Shift:
  • "Joyous" is completely rendered in 3D, as opposed to the rest of the mod being in 2D. Lord X himself resembles a stop-motion character.
  • The first part of "fakebaby" is rendered in a detailed, heavily shaded art style with Deliberate VHS Quality, but towards the end when No More Innocence warps himself and Daddy Dearest, the art style becomes more standard albeit in mostly monotone besides the red coming from the monitor Innocence appears from, with No More Innocence in particular resembling his older concept arts.
• Badass Boast: In the intro to "Darnell Wet Fart", Starvedward boasts that his symphony is unmatched by even Neptune himself.
• Big "OMG!": At the end of "Darnell Wet Fart", after dropping a Precision F-Strike, Starvedward exclaims "oh my God" before the building he's fighting Mr. Krabs in falls apart and crushes him.
• Brick Joke: Part of the lyrics of "Trichael" mention Lord X having torn off his face. An update later, about halfway through "Joyous", Lord X's face appears to have been torn off, possibly by himself.
• Darker and Edgier: "Let There Be Light" interprets Dust Man as effectively being a robot gravekeeper, showing Mega Man the burning, damaged bodies of the Robot Masters he's killed in 2 and 3 and calling him out as a murderer.
• Dead Alternate Counterpart: Herself to Girlfriend.
• Death from Above: "Darnell Wet Fart" ends with the building Starvedward and Mr. Krabs are in collapsing around them as Starvedward screams in horror, with Word of God confirming that he died, while leaving Mr. Krabs' fate ambiguous. Starvedward death also doubles as him being an Asshole Victim, as he'd become a cannibalistic serial killer, with his handiwork visible in the stage's background.
• Deliberate VHS Quality: Most of "fakebaby" is depicted with the presence of this, which only goes away once NMI crawls out of the TV to confront Daddy Dearest in the real world.
• Diegetic Interface: Downplayed in Silly Billy, which places Yourself's notes and strumline in the mirror he emerged from.
• Easter Egg: Inputting the password given on Let There Be Light's Game Over sceen into Mega Man 4 starts the game with every robot master defeated except for Dust Man.
• Evil Counterpart: Subverted with Yourself. Despite looking like an unkempt, tall version of Boyfriend with Messy Hair, damaged clothes, and vaguely unhinged movements, he doesn't seem all that evil.
• Evil vs. Evil: In "fakebaby", Daddy Dearest, the main antagonist of Friday Night Funkin', has to face the extra evil No More Innocence.
• Expy: The "Lord X" encountered in "Joyous" is said by Word of God to actually be an unknown entity taking the form of Lord X and seeking to kill the source game's creator, similar to the Ignited from The Joy of Creation, complete with following a similar narrative to the legacy version of the fangame as the Ignited seek to kill Scott Cawthon, the creator of Five Nights at Freddy's.
• Face Death with Dignity: "Trichael" has vibes evocative of this, as Lord X discusses his vessel's decay and nearing death. That said, the lyrics also make it apparent that X isn't in any real danger of dying himself and will just move on to a new vessel. Inverted in "Joyous," where Lord X threatens his own creator that he'll kill him if he has to in order to stay as Lord X, ending with JoeDoughBoy's death.
• Face of a Thug: Yourself has gray skin, bony flesh, ragged and torn clothing and a pair of shadowed eyes matching with a mouth that opens a bit too wide. But his Suddenly Speaking segment implies he's not really hostile to Boyfriend, and just wants to make somebody else proud of him before they die.
• Facial Horror:
  • In the midway point of "Joyous", Lord X is missing his face, resulting in him putting his hand over where it once was, heavily implying that he doesn't want to be looked at. In some of his poses, he lifts his hand, allowing the player to see him without his face, and the sight isn't pleasant to look at.
  • Like his inspiration, Starved, Starvedward's face has been altered as a result of malnutrition caused by his new diet, in that his eyes have gone pitch black, his lips have peeled back, and his nose has fallen off.
  • Plankton, who occasionally appears in the background of "Darnell Wet Fart", also has a disfigured face in the form of a missing eye and peeled back lips.
• Foil: Lord X and his impostor have very different opinions on death. Within "Trichael", X is mature enough to realize he has to let go now that his vessel is too weak to support him, and simply looks forward to what new life awaits him as he shares one last song with Boyfriend with his only intention being genuine, non-violent fun. "Joyous'" "X," meanwhile, is a Lord X who is not just incapable of moving on with his life, but uses his Fourth-Wall Observer status to threaten the life of his own creator in order to keep persisting as he is now despite the fact that he's beginning to fall apart mid-song.
• Freeze-Frame Bonus: For a brief moment during Yourself's lyrical section in "Silly Billy", a ghostly manifestation of Herself, his counterpart to Girlfriend, can be seen embracing him from behind, only to disappear just as quickly.
• Game Within a Game:
  • The build that added "Silly Billy" to the mod had the first version of Garn47, and searching carefully enough in it allowed you to unlock six more songs. This was removed after its creator, Floombo, left the team, however.
  • In the same build, completing "The Power of Pig" lets you play a recreation of Conan's game of origin.
• Glass-Shattering Sound: During Yourself's solo, the mirror he emerged from cracks towards the beginning, specifically when he screams "Proud".
• Handy Mouth: Starvedward's clarinet solo is accomplished by regurgitating it from his cavernous maw, clenching it between his teeth, and playing it to perfection without so much as using his tentacles.
• Hero Killer:
  • Spongebob was one of Starvedward's victims, and his dismembered corpse can be seen on the floor in "Darnell Wet Fart".
  • No More Innocence killed Girlfriend prior to the events of "fakebaby," with Daddy Dearest fighting Innocence to avenge her.
• Interface Screw:
  • "fakebaby" initially downplays this with just some Deliberate VHS Quality, but at the last minute of the song, the strumline starts moving all over the screen right as the VHS filter is taken off.
  • Downplayed example in "Silly Billy", as Yourself's note chart is displayed on the mirror behind him as opposed to the left side of the screen, notably increasing in speed until they hit the strumline.
• Intentionally Awkward Title: A trademark of Churgney Gurgney's. fakebaby, Silly Billy, and especially Darnell Wet Fart are way too ridiculous for the dramatic songs and dark visuals they're attached to.
• Large Ham: Yourself's lyrical segment, where he makes dramatic gestures while singing at the top of his lungs.

• Life Drain:
  • Almost all songs have the opponent drain the player's health whenever they sing, with "fakebaby" and "Let There Be Light" being the exceptions.
  • Starvedward's health drain comes in the form of a "Fear Meter" that fills up as he sings, with the drain itself becoming more powerful the higher the meter fills up, while any notes that the player hits will drain the meter. If the meter completely fills up, it's an instant Game Over, regardless of how much health the player has once it's full.
• Marathon Level: Very commonplace, where songs are usually expected to clock in at least 4 minutes and up, already above even the longest songs available in the base game.
  • "Joyous" clocks in at 6 minutes and 5 seconds.
  • "fakebaby", while not as long as "Joyous", is still a bit lengthy at 4 minutes and 56 seconds.
  • "Silly Billy" manages to take the cake, clocking in at 6 minutes and 14 seconds in total.
  • "Let There Be Light" comes in at a hefty 5 minutes and 7 seconds.
• Mirror Match: "Silly Billy" is a more literal example than most, as Boyfriend faces off against Yourself: a twisted alternate version of himself who manifests out of a mirror. Partway through the song he even changes shape to match the real Boyfriend's proportions.
• Mood Whiplash: "fakebaby" is dramatic in tone, and is about Daddy Dearest fighting No More Innocence to avenge Girlfriend's death. Lose in "fakebaby", and you'll be treated to a lighthearted scene based on the start of Megamind's prison breakout scene, where No More Innocence uses a Sonic-themed watch to morph into his human form while stating "yo soy el No More Innocence"^translation"I am the No More Innocence", and runs off in a comical fashion right as a door closes (presumably on Daddy Dearest).
• Musical Instrument Voice: Both Dust Man and Mega Man in "Let There Be Light" use instruments from the Mega Man soundfont as chromatics instead of voices, with the only exception being during Dust Man's lyrical section.
• My Name Is Inigo Montoya: "fakebaby"'s intro has No More Innocence declaring his name in an I Am the Noun! fashion.
  No More Innocence: Foolish child... don't you understand? I am the No More Innocence.
• Mythology Gag:
  • One of the different backgrounds that appears in "Joyous" is the Hill stage from Sonic PC Port.
  • "Darnell Wet Fart" is framed similarly to "Fight or Flight", in that the opponent is facing forward and the character the player controls is viewed from the back. The latter song was the inspiration for the former, and both songs were composed by Churgney Gurgney. The former song was even originally titled "Bold or Brash", a play on "Fight or Flight".
  • Mr. Krabs in "Darnell Wet Fart" is wearing his anti-ghost armor from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Pranks A Lot".
  • "fakebaby" switches NMI's design from his recent one to his older one during the last minute of the song.
  • invokedWord of God confirms this mod’s version of Yourself is a fusion between Divide’s old ideas for Lookalike and Doorknob’s current design for him.
• Named Like My Name: This mod's version of Yourself is not the same as the one in MarStarBro’s Yourself mod.
• Nightmare Face: When missing notes during "Car's Little Song", Car will sport a creepily warped sad expression that constantly glitches and convulses. Eventually, his face will deform to the point of looking like it's collapsed in on itself.
• No Name Given: Keeping in line with the Nameless Narrative of Friday Night Funkin', Boyfriend's twisted Alternate Self, the opponent of "Silly Billy", is named Yourself, and Yourself's (deceased) equivalent of Girlfriend is named Herself.
• Non-Indicative Name: "Darnell Wet Fart" is unrelated to Darnell from the Pico franchise. The song is simply named that in reference to an in-joke from the development of the mod the song was originally for, Mistful Crimson Morning.
• Oh, Crap!: Once the building in "Darnell Wet Fart" starts collapsing at the end, Starvedward can only panic for what's about to come next for him:
  Starvedward: Oh fuck! Oh my God! AAAAAAAAA—
• P.O.V. Cam:
  • "Joyous" takes place from JoeDoughBoi's point-of-view. Unlike the other playable characters in the mod^note Boyfriend, Mr. Krabs and Daddy Dearest, he lacks any visible features.
  • The last part of "fakebaby" takes place from Daddy Dearest's point of view, being able to see his hands with NMI right in front of him.
  • The Suddenly Speaking segment of "Silly Billy" has this as well, after Yourself breaks the mirror.
• Please, Don't Leave Me: Yourself tells somebody to "stay awake just long enough to see my way," asking them to hold onto life until he can make them proud.
• Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: "Darnell Wet Fart" starts with Starvedward addressing Mr. Krabs in a theatrical fashion:
  Starvedward: Aheh, aheh! Tonight we rehearse for the greatest concert to ever be held, crustacean. A symphony unmatched by even Neptune himself... and you've got the leading role. Won't you join meeeeeee?
• Precision F-Strike: At the end of "Darnell Wet Fart", Starvedward exclaims "oh fuck" the moment he realizes the building he's in is collapsing on him.
• Rage Against the Author: "Joyous" has Lord X face off against his own creator, JoeDoughBoi, with the former's spoken words making it very clear that he has no qualms harming the latter. The screaming heard at the end of the song, along with the flames engulfing the screen, heavily implies that Lord X kills JoeDoughBoi.
• Sizeshifter: Yourself is normally a more realistically proportioned version of Boyfriend, but he shrinks down to the real Boyfriend's size midway through "Silly Billy" before changing back.
  • Phantom Arcade stated in a tweet that the Boyfriend is canonically 7 feet tall, and further mentioned in a Reddit comment that he and Girlfriend are drawn with childlike proportions to indicate their relative innocence compared to certain opponents. Yourself briefly matching Boyfriend's size may be a stylistic choice rather than literal shapeshifting.
• Spell My Name with a "The": No More Innocence refers to himself as "the No More Innocence" twice.
• Suddenly Speaking:
  • "Trichael" and "Joyous" both have instances where Lord X sings actual lyrics instead of being confined to the typical FNF-style chromatic scale. It's more frequent in "Trichael", with almost the entire song having him sing normally.
  • Yourself in "Silly Billy" and Dust Man in "Let There Be Light" also have parts where the characters sing lyrical sections, though both are shorter than those of Lord X. Dust Man is even more a case of this trope, as his normal chromatic isn't made with a voice but rather an instrument.
  • Inverted with Car in "Car's Little Song". He speaks normally in the introduction, but briefly switches to "singing" with a chromatic scale before properly singing.
• Turns Red: Downplayed for "Silly Billy." While Yourself uses the same set of sprites throughout the song (besides briefly imitating Boyfriend), his opponent icon on the health bar becomes visibly angrier and his note patterns become trickier as the song progresses.
• Unexpected Gameplay Change: "TRI-TORIAL" is not an FNF track at all, instead being a fully instrumental electronic track with visuals of a Lord X-themed level of SOUND VOLTEX. The UI is also changed accordingly, including the addition of a more traditional note highway and a recreation of an SDVX controller replacing the strumline.
• Whole-Plot Reference: "Let There Be Light" is a massive throwback to Mario Ramirez' animation of the same name which involves a Darker and Edgier scenario of the Dust Man stage that shows the ramifications of just what kind of dead robots would be at the junkyard.
