Haunted Castle Revisited is a 2024 Platform Game developed by M2 (who previously developed Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth) and published by Konami as part of the Castlevania Dominus Collection for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Part of the Castlevania franchise, it is a Video Game Remake of the original Haunted Castle, featuring completely redone, Retraux-style graphics, updated music, and rebalanced difficulty. However, the plot remains as simplistic as it was before: Simon Belmont goes on an adventure to rescue his newlywed wife after she was kidnapped by Dracula.

Haunted Castle Revisited provides examples of:

• Adapted Out:
  • The Cartoon Bombs from the arcade game were removed from Revisited likely because of being unfit for the game's setting.
  • The stop watch was axed as well, seemingly because it would make the game too easy.
  • The player also no longer gets transported to an alternate dimension to fight harpies.
  • The whip can no longer be upgraded into a sword. Instead, it becomes a pointed-edged whip.
• Anti-Frustration Features: In response to the original's notoriously aggressive difficulty, these have been implanted in spades:
  • Falling into a bottomless pit is no longer an instant kill; rather, Simon respawns at the edge of the pit and loses a bit of health, a la The Legend of Zelda.
  • The flames in the first stage now start from the right and spread towards Simon, giving ample time for the player to jump out of the way.
  • The Final Boss has a checkpoint in between its two phases.
• Art Evolution: The game's art direction is surprisingly faithful to the original, albeit with far more detail and frames of animation. Additionally, Dracula's design has been tweaked to include his trademark beard from Symphony of the Night onwards, and Simon no longer walks like he has a really bad stomach ache.
• Barrage of Bats: In his second phase, Dracula turns into four gray heads, each with its own attack. The head on the rightmost corner opens its mouth to release bats at Simon.
• Big Bad: Dracula, who has kidnapped Simon Belmont's wife and is presumably trying to Take Over the World.
• Characterization Marches On: Revisited changes Dracula's appearance and mannerisms to reflect his more iconic depictions in later games. He now sports a head of white hair, and instead of flying through the sky to swoop down and violently carry off Simon's bride, he instead does his more iconic teleport to appear before them and hypnotize her into falling asleep before vanishing with her in a Bridal Carry.
• Damsel in Distress: Serena, Simon's wife who is kidnapped at the beginning of the game.
• Evil Is Petty: Dracula kidnaps Simon's wife for no apparent reason other than to mess with him.
• Excuse Plot: Just like the original, there's no plot beyond Simon trying to save a Damsel in Distress.
• Falling into His Arms: After defeating Dracula's second form, if you position Simon correctly, he'll catch Serena as she falls. If you don't, he'll kneel by her side once she floats back to the ground.
• Frankenstein's Monster: The Creature, a blatant Expy of Frankenstein's monster (right down to the bolts in his neck) returns as a boss.
• Hour of Power: Grabbing a second upgrade orb grants the whip a temporary boost in power that lasts until either the green gauge depletes or Simon takes damage.
• Nerf: The maximum whip upgrade is now only temporary, similar to how it works in Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth.
• One to Million to One: Dracula's first form towers over Simon Belmont's character sprite, dissolves into a swarm of yellow bats which moves to another point of the boss room.
• Retraux: Revisited gives the original game's visuals a total makeover, although the end result aims for a PS1/Saturn/N64 look that emulates Symphony of the Night.
• Shout-Out: In the beginning, after seeing Dracula kidnap his wife, Simon gets so pissed that he powers up and strikes a pose as if he's going to turn into a Super Saiyan.
• Sprite/Polygon Mix: The four giant heads Dracula summons in Revisited are polygonal models as opposed to the sprites the vast majority of the game's assets are otherwise.
• Video Game Remake: It's a completely overhauled version of 1987's Haunted Castle, with new graphics, various quality of life improvements, and clearer sound effects.
