Don't Let Her In is a short pixel horror game created by flower studios. It's available for free on its itch.io page
.
Your father has left you alone in the house with only one instruction to follow: "Don't let her in." But weeks have gone by and you're starting to grow hungry...
Due to the short length of the game it's pretty much impossible to talk about it without spoiling anything. Therefor, all spoilers on this page are unmarked. You Have Been Warned.
Contains examples of:
- Arc Words: "Don't let her in", referring to the mysterious woman constantly appearing at the windows of your house.
- Ambiguous Situation: The protagonist's father is said to have left before the game's story, leaving the protagonist nothing but a single note that instructed them not to let "her" in. He doesn't return at any point. It's left ambiguous whether the protagonist's father was killed or simply left them to fend for themselves.
- Body Horror: Eating the meal the mysterious woman made you results in bugs growing and crawling under your skin. It's also implied that, regardless of the ending, you get turned into a bug creature yourself - either you let her in and she infects you, or you don't let her in, she gets in anyway, and then you get captured by other bug creatures and end the game in a cocoon, implying that you're in a chrysalis to become one.
- But Thou Must!: If you refuse to eat the woman's food, she just shoves it down your throat.
- Disappeared Dad / Missing Mom: Your dad left long before the events of the game, your mom is only alluded to.
- Downer Ending: Even if you never let the woman in by your own choice, the protagonist won't get a happy ending. Either they let the woman in despite their dad's warning and get forcefed bugs. Or they hold out for several weeks until the woman breaks in, get chased out the house, then trip and are captured by the bug creatures anyway.
- Emergency Broadcast: Examining the radio and television first has an unknown emergency broadcast playing on both; later, if you examine them, it's just static.
- Schmuck Bait: You have the option to actually let the woman in. She proceeds to make you a "meal" that's heavily implied to consist of maggots, which you have no choice but to eat. This repeats over the following days until you're slowly turned into a new vessel for the bug-creatures.
- Too Dumb to Live: Downplayed. It's obviously a bad idea to let the mysterious woman into the house, but by the time she shows up the protagonist has gone weeks without a proper meal, explaining why they might be more willing to let the woman, who is offering them food, in despite everything about her being a red flag.
