It's a fight for Dreamland, may the best ruler win!
Dedede's Dream Land
is a short mod for Friday Night Funkin' serving as a crossover with Kirby, specifically around King Dedede.
Taking place before the events of Kirby's Dream Land 3, King Dedede finds his castle invaded, not by Kirby, but by a being he does not recall seeing. As his Waddle Dees flee the castle, the king stands his ground to try and fend off the intruder, but can he succeed, or is he doomed to fall?
Song List
Story Mode
- Harmony's End (Zero vs. King Dedede)
Secret
- The Butch Zone (Zero vs. King Dedede)
Tropes:
- Adapted Out: Boyfriend and Girlfriend are nowhere to be seen. And aside from the ending cutscene for "Harmony's End", Kirby himself is also absent.
- Brutal Bonus Level: "The Butch Zone", to say the least, has a faster scroll speed than "Harmony's End", meaning players will need to be more responsive to the notes to reach the end. As a trade-off, however, the song is shorter than "Harmony's End" is, being just over 2 minutes compared to the story song's length of just over 4 minutes.
- Evil vs. Evil: The main point of the mod's events. King Dedede had been the main antagonist of the earliest Kirby games, with mainly his Greed as the defining motive, whilst Zero, the main antagonist of Kirby's Dream Land 3, seeks to spread Dark Matter across Dream Land and corrupt it.
- Foregone Conclusion: Dedede is ultimately overpowered by Zero by the song's end, setting the stage for the events of Kirby's Dream Land 3, the cutscene at the very end depicting Kirby and Gooey discovering Zero and the Dark Matter beginning their strike on Dream Land properly.
- The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: For "The Butch Zone", when Zero transforms, he appears outside the game window and is MUCH bigger than Dedede, to the point that his face takes up most of the game's screen. This also throws in the animated skies to conceal your own desktop with.
- Hit Points: Like the system used in Kirby's Dream Land 3 proper, Dedede can only sustain so many misses until a Game Over, with his maximum being depicted as 5 HP squares that shrink the more notes he misses.
- Interface Screw: The second half of "Harmony's End" (alongside the majority of "The Butch Zone") does away with the HUD entirely, making it harder to know how many more misses Dedede can tank before he falls.
- Prequel: This mod serves as one for the events of Kirby's Dream Land 3. The title card before "Harmony's End" begins even labels it as "LEVEL 0".
- Red and Black and Evil All Over: Zero fits this to a T, especially during the first half of "Harmony's End". In the second half, Red and White and Evil All Over would better describe it.
