Apple 3.0 is a Friday Night Funkin' mod and an April Fool's spin-off of Dave and Bambi: Golden Apple Edition created by Sky! that is made up primarily of songs related to In Jokes and old YouTube videos of the developers. The mod was originally simply nonsense for the sake of nonsense (as to be expected from an April Fool's mod), but the 3.0.0.0.0 update in 2025 stitched all of it together into a cohesive plot that is planned to give context to the story of Golden Apple Edition's upcoming update.

The Elf is a member of a society comprised of Christmas toys who one day stole a god-like cryptid trapped inside a picture frame named Dimane, giving him the power to see into and interact with other dimensions. Using this power, the Elf discovers a dimension that's a complete blank slate and decides to make it his own, populating it by finding entities with very repetitive lifestyles and perfectly recreating that life in his own dimension so they'll be none the wiser when he transports them there. His efforts to preserve The Masquerade, however, begin to struggle under the weight of his slip-ups, not helped by the rest of those Christmas toy people working to stop him and his attempts to play God.

The mod can be downloaded from its own website, orthofrust.com. It's first recommended, however, that you watch the associated short film "A Deal with Ancient Mister" for some much-needed story context.

• Animation Bump:
  • Peensum's sprites in "🤡" are somewhat jagged and rough, and his movements are exaggerated with abundant squash-and-stretch. His appearance in "Alibi" has these sprites reanimated with a much cleaner, more consistent look.
  • In "Give Up", Mr. Slynet is animated much like a typical FNF character at 24 FPS. When he returns in "True-o-Fangirl", he's animated much more smoothly, with his hands and some of his faces looking practically rotoscoped in his first set of sprites.
• Bootstrapped Leitmotif: The Ferocious Retrieval Unit's appearance in "Alibi" is backed, appropriately enough, by the iconic booming kicks from the beginning of the main mod's "Ferocious". Just before he reappears at the end of "True-o-Fangirl", the instrumental also transitions into that of the Paloose Man section from the same song.
• Creating Life Is Bad: The Elf's two attempts at creating his own inhabitants for his dimension don't go very well - his copy of Boyfriend is explicitly stated to be entirely void of a personality, and Mr. Slynet is a deformed freak that was given the absolute bare minimum intelligence required to follow Elf's orders. Peensum is pretty much normal, on the other hand, but he was still treated horribly by the Elf and eventually abandoned for not doing his job well enough.
• Face of a Thug: Flandre Cool Awesome has a threatening appearance with large jagged teeth, Creepy Long Fingers, and her starting "Alibi" with a Throat-Slitting Gesture, but judging by the information given on her official Toyhouse page she's actually pretty chill most of the time and only acted threatening towards Peensum due to thinking he was behind her transportation to the Elf's dimension.
• Lore Codex: The Elf's notebook, which has 6 pages when the mod is started up and gains more as you play through the songs, is practically mandatory to properly connect the events of the songs together, due in part to the majority of them having been first made without any plot in mind.
• Masquerade: The Elf decides to enforce this on his dimension's inhabitants (all of which were taken from other dimensions) so that they don't get freaked out being suddenly transported somewhere entirely unfamiliar. However, his following decision to create it out of several small areas inhabited by entities who mostly stay in just those areas makes it pretty easy for that masquerade to slip - for example, when Mr. Slynet bursts through Fangirl!Lancey's fake paper background, revealing the dimension to her.
• Perpetual Frowner: Peensum has a perpetually distressed look on his face no matter the situation.
• Shapeshifter Showoff Session: In the second half of "True-o-Fangirl", Mr. Slynet's shapeshifting ability, which he'd already shown with just his face in "Give Up", goes into overdrive as every pose has him transform into a new, generally-unsettling appearance.
• Ship Tease: Peensum and Billbert get a bit of this from their interaction on the Toyhouse page, with Peensum calling Billbert the only person he could trust in the Elf's dimension and Billbert fondly recounting a time the two visited a park and a funfair, had a good time, and even kissed once 'as a joke'.
• Shout-Out:
  • Mr. Flynet's appearance is practically identical to that of Austin from The Backyardigans. Mr. Slynet is a bit more distorted, but still recognizable as well.
  • A few of the mod's characters (namely Mr. Flynet, Flandre Cool Awesome, and Failure) come from RadicalOne, another FNF mod that Sky! and Lancey work on.
  • The Ferocious Retrieval Unit's head is that of 8owser16, a YouTuber who'd become memetic after playing and disliking the Golden Apple Edition mod, most notably the song "Ferocious". Notably when they appear in "Alibi", they say the line, "I don't remember good songs having parts that sound like dogshit," the main memetic line from his rant about "Ferocious".
  • The title of "Five Nickel Plushies" as well as Adam Katz' vocals and voiceline come from an Instagram reel giveaway of his related to Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two.
  • One of Ran's alternate idles in "Rekt" has him suddenly become Ron.
  • In "True-o-Fangirl", Mr. Slynet's up pose during his second section gives him the overalls and head of Yellow Guy, and his right pose gives him the glasses and cloud of a Lakitu.
• Stylistic Suck: It wouldn't be a proper April Fool's mod without plenty of this.
  • Both Fred and Adam Katz appear as cropped PNGs of their heads, with expressions made by squashing and stretching parts of their faces. Adam Katz fits more into this, as his sprites are super blurry and jittery in how they move.
  • Billbert and Flandre Cool Awesome are both drawn in a crude, scribble-like manner with exaggerated features. The 2D section of "Judge Dragon" also looks similar, though to a lesser degree.
  • "Trespassed" follows the plot of the video it's based on very closely, that being a very amateurish short presumably made by a child using random toys.
  • While most of the songs are composed seriously and don't fall under this, Adam Katz' vocals in the first part of "Five Nickel Plushies" are intentionally abrasive, and his side of the chart descends into hyperspam fairly often.
  • Fangirl!Lancey has the appearance of a child's simplistic drawing, goes Off-Model in almost all of her poses, and her dialogue throughout "True-o-Fangirl" is taken right from the developer Lancey's old Lancer fangirl videos, featuring poor audio quality, awkward unscripted rambling, and a humorously bad attempt to threaten the viewers if they try to hurt or take away Lancer.
• Synchro-Vox: Chompo's eyes and mouth are superimposed images of real human facial features, adding to its Uncanny Valley look.
• Wham Shot: "True-o-Fangirl" has two of these.
  • At the halfway mark of what initially seems like a simple song based on one of the devs' old videos, Mr. Slynet from "Give Up" tears a hole into the background to become the opponent for the rest of the song, marking the second time (after Peensum's appearance in "Alibi") a character reappears after their first song.
  • Near the end of the song, the Ferocious Retrieval Unit makes a return appearance as well, stunning Mr. Slynet and returning Fangirl!Lancey back to her own dimension... but not before making a stop at a purple room where the characters from the "Ancient Mister" short are seen observing the Elf's dimension and typing something unknown on a computer powered by Mister's picture frame..
