Animaniacs: The Great Edgar Hunt is a Collect-a-Thon Platformer based off the Animaniacs series, which was released in 2005 for the GameCube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2. It's noticeable for being the first Animaniacs project (aside from Pinky and the Brain: The Master Plan, a Europe-exclusive game released in 2002) to be released since Wakko's Wish in 1999.
With the Edgars ceremony approaching, C. C. Deville, frustrated over being overlooked, steals all of the Edgars, threatening to melt them all down unless he gets a lucrative contract. However, his dim-witted assistant Jinx accidentally crashes their getaway blimp, releasing the Warner siblings from the Water Tower and scattering the Edgars throughout the studio lot. The Warner siblings soon agree to locate all of the Edgars across a variety of levels, all whilst Pinky and the Brain plot to take over the world in the background.
All three Warner siblings are capable of being played, with the player changing between them with the help of special doors, and they all have unique abilities - Dot can limbo, Yakko can throw bombs, and Wakko can dig for items.
Tropes in this game:
- Bewitched Amphibians: In "Once Upon a Time", the Warner siblings will encounter a hag who tries to inflict them with a spell to change them into a frog. They defeat her by having the spell reflect on her mirror, turning her into a frog instead.
- Big Boo's Haunt: "Spooky Movie" takes place in a haunted mansion with ghosts as one of the enemies. The boss for this stage is a parody of the Bride of Frankenstein.
- Bland-Name Product: The Edgars are a stand-in for the Oscars, being a prestigious award for movies.
- Chained to a Railway: Dot is tied to a train track and at the mercy of an incoming train, leading it up to Yakko to save her. Of course, it later turns out to be nothing more than the work of a rolling oil painting, a dry ice machine, and a $50,000 computer.
- Collect-a-Thon Platformer: The collection of Edgars is required to proceed with the game. However, they aren't the only items which can be collected - letters spelling out ACME can be picked up to increase the health count of the Warner Siblings, whilst soundstage specific collectibles can be retrieved to help obtain more Edgars.
- Dr. Fakenstein: "Spooky Movie" features Scratchenshtein, a Mad Scientist trying to use Wakko's brain to construct a Bride for himself. He even has his own Igor stand-in.
- Fairy Tale Free-for-All: "Once Upon A Time" is Fairy Tale-themed, with the Warner Siblings helping the three billy goats cross a bridge, save Little Miss Muffet from spiders, gather up sheep for Little Bo Peep, and grow the beanstalk from Jack and the Beanstalk.
- Hub Level: The "Warner Film Lot" serves as the hub, with each of the other stages accessible as soundstages on the lot.
- Night-Vision Goggles: The Warner Siblings are given a pair of night-vision goggles to help navigate darkened areas.
- Power-Up Food: Apples can be picked up to heal lost health.
- Shout-Out: At the beginning of "Spooky Movie", the Igor stand-in gives Yakko and Dot a proton pack to deal with ghosts in the yard. He also comments that it does the job better than a household vaccum cleaner.
- Spiders Are Scary: Spiders are one of the enemies encountered by the Warner siblings. Additionally, one mission has them encounter Little Miss Muffet in a dark forest after she was scared away by the spiders, with their mission being to escort her out of the woods whilst defeating any spiders that can cause her to freeze up in fear.
- Take Over the World: Every level has a mouse cage containing Pinky and The Brain, who of course continue to "Try to take over the world!", each attempt presented as a minigame where you play out their scheme. Their plans end up helping the Warners out more than anything, such as rebuilding the water tower to attach a transmitter that plays a subliminal message, but instead, they just end up removing the debris that was blocking the Warners' progress.
- The Wild West: "Ye Olde West" is a Wild West-themed level, with missions involving western towns, rodeos, trains and American Indian settlements. Enemies include rattlesnakes and cactuses.
