Stratton Oakmont's origins revolve around selling blue-chip stocks before eventually convincing its clients to invest in penny stocks in a pump-and-dump scheme that makes the brokers rich. Jordan Belfort, the protagonist, convinces his fellow brokers to manipulate their clients while also encouraging each other to do so, snickering hard in the background.
