Zootopia 2

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Yvette Nicole Brown voices both the EMT otter and Bearoness Bear.
    • Jean Reno voices both Bûcheron and Chèvre. Daniel Olbrychski did the same with them in the Polish dubbing.
    • In addition to voicing Duke Weaselton, Alan Tudyk also voices a French raccoon chef, Molt Kahl, and a reporter.
  • Actor-Inspired Element: According to Jared Bush on his Twitter, Gary asking permission to hug Judy and her accepting after the former reunites with his family was suggested to him by Ke Huy Quan himself.
  • All-Star Cast: Probably the biggest example in Disney Animation's history. Alongside a vast majority of the cast from the first film, Zootopia 2 also includes Ke Huy Quan, Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, returning Disney Animation veteran Patrick Warburton and Danny Trejo in significant roles. Additionally, alongside Warburton, the film includes a bunch of voice actors who worked with Disney Animation in the past appearing as cameos, such as John Leguizamo, Dwayne Johnson, Josh Gad, and Michael J. Fox. And that's not getting into all of the other minor voices, provided by people such as Mario Lopez, Jean Reno, Macaulay Culkin, Ed Sheeran, WWE wrestlers Roman Reigns and CM Punk, and even then-Disney CEO Bob Iger.
  • Blooper: Although it only lasts for 3 seconds, during the scene where Judy is chasing Gary through the kitchen with the Ratatouille reference, Gary can be seen with only one fang, before he actually loses one his fangs.
  • The Cameo: A lot of earlier Disney Animation mains made a cameo as different random characters.
  • Cash-Cow Franchise: In its opening weekend, the movie earned a whopping $560 million worldwide, which made it the fourth highest worldwide grossing opening weekend ever and the highest such ever for an animated film. It grossed $1 billion in the box office within 17 days of release, the fastest ever for a western animation and second-fastest ever in the history of animated films.note
  • Cast Incest: Real-life couple Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin play two of the Lynxley siblings.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor:
    • Bûcheron's voice actor Jean Reno is no stranger to voice acting (he did the French dub of the eponymous character in Porco Rosso, Mufasa in The Lion King and a couple of others) but he still qualifies as he's mainly an actor.
    • In the European French dub, comedian/ventriloquist Le Cas Pucine provided background animal talking.
    • The Zebros are voiced by two wrestlers, Roman Reigns and CM Punk.
    • The koala at the airport is voiced by Robert Irwin, the son of Australian wildlife expert Steve Irwin.
    • In the Japanese dub, aside of the ones returning from the previous film:
      • The Lynxley family are all voiced by celebrities; Milton Lynxley is voiced by actor and singer Tomio Umezawa, Pawbert Lynxley is voiced by singer Ryosuke Yamada, better known for playing Edward Elric in the live-action adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist, Kitty Lynxley is voiced by actress Tsubaki Nekoze and Cattrick Lynxley by also actor Kazushige Komatsu.
      • Jesus is voiced by actor Akira Emoto, better known for playing Captain Akira Yuki in Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla.
      • Another Godzilla alumni, Masahiro Takashima, who worked in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, voices Mayor Winddancer. He is also known for playing Brooklyn, the main protagonist, in Gunhed.
      • Paul Moldebrandt is voiced by none other than Hideo Kojima. While Kojima had previous voice acting experience, this is the first time he has worked in the Japanese dub of a work done by someone else, rather than a game done by himself. Also, Jared Bush, the director, personally chose him thanks to a direct offer done by him to Kojima.
    • The Latin American Spanish dub adds a few famous newcomers to the cast as well:
      • Mayor Winddancer is voiced by Mexican actor and entrepreneur Roberto Palazuelos.
      • Russ is voiced by Chilean comedian Rodrigo Salinas, best known for his work in 31 Minutos.
    • In the Korean dub, the voice of Gary's anti-venom pen is voiced by Mimi, from the K-pop girls band Oh My Girl.
    • Nearly happened to Nick himself in the Taiwanese Mandarin dub, as the original teaser with Nick recast with a celebrity causes severe fandom backlash, and Nick's original voice actor, Wang Chenhua, reprises his role in the final product, along with the original teaser being taken down.
    • In the Italian dub, we have comedian Max Angioni as Gary De'Snake, actress Michela Giraud as Nibbles Maplestick, actor Matteo Martari as Mayor Brian Winddancer, comedian Frank Matano as Duke Weaselton once again, psychotherapist Stefania Andreoli as Doctor Fuzzby, actor Leo Gullotta (again, once again) as Mr. Big, chef Max Mariola as a cameo as the Chef, and Italian soccer players Alessandro Del Piero and Claudio Marchisio as the Zebros.
    • In the Polish dub, Antony is voiced by a hugely popular singer Mrozu.
  • The Danza:
    • Robert Irwin (Steve Irwin's son) voices a koala version of himself named Robert Furwin.
    • Ed Sheeran and Blake Slatkin voice sheep parodies of themselves named Ed Shearin and Baalake Lambkin.
    • Fox prisoner Michael J. The Fox is voiced by Michael J. Fox.
    • Taylen Biggs voices a mouse named Tailen Smalls.
    • KABC-TV Los Angeles newscaster George Pennacchio voices a lion version of himself named George Purrrnacleo.
    • Retired CBC newsman Peter Mansbridge returns as Peter Moosebridge.
    • Bear prisoner Big Tig is voiced by Tig Notaro.
    • Reptile Hangout bartender Slick Di'Giguani is voiced by Nick DiGiovanni.
    • Disney CEO Bob Iger has a brief cameo as Bob Tiger, a weatherman.
    • In a way in the Japanese dub, Kitty Lynxley is voiced by Tsubaki Nekoze, being "neko" the Japanese word for "cat" or "feline".
    • In the Polish dub, the Zebros (who in the original English dub were both named Gene) got their names changed to Sebastian and Hubert to match the names of their Polish voice actors, Sebastian Kuc and Hubert Kuc.
  • Dawson Casting: Fru Fru's toddler-aged daughter, Little Judith, is voiced by 41-year old Cecily Strong.
  • Descended Creator:
    • Co-head of story David VanTuyle voices the walrus Russ.
    • Directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard voices Pronk Oryx-Antlerson and Bucky Oryx-Antlerson like in the first movie. Bush also voices Jürgen Ziegenkäse, and Howard voices Berthold Hufschmerz and Joel.
    • In an unusual take on the trope, Disney's CEO Bob Iger as Bob Tiger.
  • Dueling Works:
  • In Memoriam: At the end of the credits, there is a dedication to Tiny Lister, Finnick's first voice actor, who passed away in 2020. The rental and home media releases of the movie added a second dedication for Babatunde "Tunde" Akinloye, a member of the crew who passed away shortly before the theatrical release.
  • Irony as They Are Cast: The Zebros end up getting easily beaten up by Gazelle and her dancers, the former using wrestling moves. The two are voiced by WWE wrestlers... and not just any two wrestlers either; Roman Reigns and CM Punk are both considered as two of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and who were locked in a bitter feud within months of its release.
  • Kids' Meal Toy: McDonald's had a set of eight figures in their Happy Meals; Gary De'Snake, Nibbles Maplestick, Flash Slothmore, Pawbert Linxley, and two different versions of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
  • Multiple Languages, Same Voice Actor: Jean Reno voices Bûcheron in the English and French dubs.
  • Novelization First: The junior novelization was released over a month before its theatrical debut.
  • The Original Darrin: After being replaced by John Lavelle in Zootopia+, Tommy Chong returns as Yax.
  • The Other Darrin:
  • The Other Marty:
    • For the European French dub, in the first trailer, Gary De'Snake was voiced by Pierre Tessier. Baptiste Lecaplain voices him in the film (and the final trailer).
    • The same case also applies to the Polish dub, where Gary in the first trailer was voiced by Jarosław Domin, but ended up being voiced by Maciej Stuhr in the film and the final trailer.
  • Playing Against Type: Brenda Song's usual roles, particularly at Disney, tend to be goodhearted if airheaded and a bit self-centered characters. Here, she plays the fully villainous Kitty Lynxley.
  • Playing with Character Type: Pawbert at first doesn't seem to be too different from Andy Samberg's usual roles... until his true colors are revealed.
  • Posthumous Credit: Tiny Lister, who passed away in 2020, reprises his role as Finnick via archival audio.
  • Production Posse:
  • Real-Life Relative:
    • As in the first one, Ginnifer Goodwin (Judy) and Josh Dallas (Frantic Pig) are married in real life.
    • Lynxley siblings Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin are married in real life. The same with Polish dub.
    • Shakira (Gazelle)'s children Milan and Sasha voice Binky M. Hopps and Binkston S. Hopps (two of Judy's siblings) respectively, they are the ones saying "They did it!" at the end of the film.
  • Recycled Script: The "hey bub" Overly Long Gag made its debut in Zootopia: Better Zoogether three weeks prior.
  • Refitted for Sequel: The Razorbacks were supposed to appear in the first movie, but were saved for the second.
  • Role Reprise: Jenny Slate returns as Bellwether and Josh Dallas as the Frantic Pig for the first time in 9 years since the first film.
  • Sequel Gap: This movie comes out nine years after the first Zootopia movie.
  • Stunt Casting:
    • Hideo Kojima plays Paul Moldebrandt in the Japanese dub, his first ever voice acting role.
    • In the Polish dub, Antony is the first voice acting role for his Polish voice actor, Mrozu.
  • Those Two Actors:
    • In the Japanese dub, Toshiyuki Morikawa (Nick) and Hiro Shimono (Gary) had worked together respectively in many places before, including in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Kagaya Ubuyashiki and Zenitsu Agatsuma) and the Japanese dub of Alex Rider (2020) (Ian Rider and Tom Harris).
    • In the Latin American Spanish dub, Romina Marroquín Payró (Judy) and Roberto Palazuelos (Mayor Winddancer) previously worked together in the Mexican animated movie Águila y Jaguar: Los guerreros legendarios as both Xanat, the main protagonist and Axio respectively.
    • In the Taiwanese Mandarin dub, Zeng Yunfan (Nibbles) and Wang Chenhua (Nick) had worked together respectively in many places before in dubs of numerous animated products, such as Chainsaw Man (Himeno and Aki Hayakawa), Elemental (Ember Lumen and Wade Ripple) and later in the 2025 re-dub of Fushigi Yuugi (Miaka Yuuki and Hotohori).
  • Throw It In: Chief Bogo calling Nick an "orange dog" was ad-libbed by Idris Elba.
  • Voice-Only Cameo: Auli'i Cravalho (aka Moana) as the voice of Gary's Anti-Venom Pen.
  • Voices in One Room: Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song recorded their lines together as Catrick and Kitty Lynxley.
