- Accidental Downer Ending: After increasingly frequent breaks by the author starting at roughly the end of 2007, late 2009 sees the second to last story arc where Sid finds out he has lung cancer, going through treatment and recovery. The comic then goes on hiatus for roughly a year, until the final comics in November 2010, where AJ joins the military, gets sent to Afghanistan, and is wounded in action. The final comic shows AJ, home and recovering from his injuries, but now suffering from PTSD.
- Defictionalization: The Vigor Assistant for the UNIX VI text editor is a clone of Clippy for Microsoft Word. Some random hacker made a real Vigor Assistant
. - Orphaned Series: After running constantly from 1997, the comic went on hiatus at the end of November 2009. It started up again in August 2010, ran to mid-September, and went on an even briefer hiatus. Then there was one final burst of activity in November, and ever since the comic has sat abandoned. And then in a February 2022 forum post, Iliad announced that the site would shut down at the end of the month.
- Technology Marches On: Inevitable for a strip running so long. One that really stands out is Pitr equipping his PDA with a front-facing camera and it being treated like an absurd novelty, when a few years later it would be a basic feature.
