Final Destination 5

Go To

  • California Doubling: Set in upstate New York but filmed in Vancouver. The Lions Gate Bridge stood in for the movie's bridge.
  • Cast the Expert:
    • Ellen Wroe is a gymnast like her character, Candice.
    • During the gymnastics practice scene, Canadian Olympian Brittany Rogers plays the gymnast on the balance beam when Candice is on uneven bars.
  • Dawson Casting: Tony Todd was 57 years old during the movie's filming. William Bludworth's exact age is never stated, but he's around the same age as in the chronologically succeeding Final Destination 1, which was released 11 years prior.
  • Deleted Scene: The Blu-Ray contains two alternate death scenes.
    • Isaac gets ignited by the flames because he's standing in the puddle of liquid, as opposed to having his head crushed by the falling Buddha statue.
    • Olivia gets both eyes burned out by the laser instead of one but still falls to her death.
  • Fake American: Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Olivia) and Brent Strait (Roy) are Canadians, while Arlen Escarpeta (Nathan) is Belizean.
  • Lying Creator: The Circle of Fate special feature claims that some of the actors from the first film were brought back to recreate the original premonition. This is false; they just use archive footage.
  • Playing Against Type: David Koechner, known for often playing comedic, screwball characters, heavily tones down the Slapstick here to play a hard-ass Mean Boss. He still gets funny moments here and there though.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Jacqueline MacInnes Wood has been a fan of the franchise since she was a kid, so much so that she sent in her audition tapein the midst of filming The Bold and the Beautiful.
  • Throw It In: Related to the above, Isaac's remark about the Buddha statue which later crushes his head needing to "lay off the rice cakes" was improvised according to an interview with producer Craig Perry. What's more, that sequence originally ended with Isaac getting burned alive. The filmmakers felt it wasn't as strong as some of the other deaths, so reshoots added him stumbling back into the wall to avoid the fire and knocking the statue down as a payoff.
  • Refitted for Sequel:
    • The crumbling bridge was going to be the premonition disaster in an earlier version of Final Destination 4, written when James Wong was still attached to the project.
    • The Twist Ending that this movie serves as a prequel was refitted from the initial idea for Final Destination 3's ending, which had Kimberly and Burke biting it alongside Wendy, Julie, and Kevin.
  • Tuckerization: Peter Friedkin is named after William Friedkin, Candice Hooper after Tobe Hooper, and Olivia Castle after William Castle.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • One planned death would have taken place at a water park.
    • Ashley Tisdale auditioned for the part of Candice, making this the third film in the series that she auditioned for.
      • Hilarious in Hindsight when you consider that she eventually went on to portray a character of the same name on Phineas and Ferb, just with a slight spelling difference (her character on that show spells it with an A instead of an I).
  • You Look Familiar: In the Italian dub:
