- The simple, heartbreaking fact that John and Lori ended up getting divorced and ending their relationship for good, after everything they went through in the first movie. note
- John would later admit to Sam (Ted’s lawyer) that he felt like Lori kept trying to turn him into someone he’s not, making her realize; as much as they loved each other, they just ultimately weren’t right for each other, it just could not work out. Thankfully John does get with Sam in the end.
- Tami-Lynn finding out she's infertile due to a history of drug and alcohol abuse. It's this drug abuse that puts her parenting skills to question.
- Ted's reaction to hearing he is not considered a person in the eyes of the state, but a piece of property. Afterwards, he loses his job, his bank account is terminated, his credit card is cut and worst of all, his marriage with Tami-Lynn is null and void, and he is no longer a Papa Gino's rewards member.
- In one particular scene from the court room, the prosecutor brings in a retired Hasbro employee who supervised the stuffing of Teddy Bears similar to Ted to prove Ted doesn't have an internal soul in spite of being a living toy. The employee brings up the voice box with recorded phrases in the stuffed bears and the prosecutor asks Ted to press his chest. Ted does so and the recorded child's voice saying "I love you!" is heard throughout the court room. Just absolutely so humiliating to hear.
- Ted, after failing to have the verdict overturned because of his hedonistic lifestyle and watching John and Sam's budding relationship, becomes angry and jealous, shouting that his life is ruined and will be seen as nothing but property, "like garbage or a piece of shit".
- When John appears to die, devastating Ted and Sam. What makes it heartwrenching though is Ted’s goodbye speech to him. It’s just like Ted’s death all over again, only this time the roles are switched. And it’s permanent. Ted: You were my thunder buddy. You were my thunder buddy for life. And you gave up your own life to save mine. The only problem is, I don't know how my life works without you...
- …Only for John to spring up awake having turned out he was just playing a gag on Ted as payback for making John think he was mentally retarded after he got fixed in the last movie, and didn’t actually die after all, but still.
