Barnacle Face

SpongeBob tries to remove a barnacle from Pearl's face.

Barnacle Face contains examples of:

• Bait-and-Switch: The framing of the reveal of the diamonds makes it seem as if Spongebob is unknowingly setting Pearl up to be laughed at by her friends. Turns out her friends think the nose-diamonds make her look pretty and they all run off to the dance.
• Chekhov's Gun: The diamond room in Krabs's house. At the end of the episode, SpongeBob uses diamonds from the exact same room to cover Pearl's barnacles.
• Continuity Snarl: SpongeBob is able to swim in this episode despite previous episodes (such as "SpongeGuard on Duty") establishing that he does not know how (though he did learn to swim at the end of that aforementioned episode).
• Cutting Corners:
  • Rather than buy soap or throw out leftover Krabby Patties, Mr. Krabs converts the patties into his own soap, which turns out to be the cause of Pearl's barnacles.
  • Also, rather than take Pearl to an dermatologist, and spend his money into creams and lotions to properly get rid of Pearl's barnacles, Mr. Krabs asks SpongeBob to somehow get rid of the barnacles.
• Distant Reaction Shot: Upon first seeing the barnacle on her face, Pearl screams so loud it reaches most of the high school, and all of Bikini Bottom.
• Foreshadowing: Pearl gains more barnacles whenever she washes her face with the soap. SpongeBob also loves smelling the soap, saying how "familiar" and "delicious" the fragrance is. The soap is later revealed to be made of Krabby Patties, and to have been causing the barnacles because of its greasiness.
• Freeze-Frame Bonus: The glue SpongeBob uses on the diamonds to hide Pearl's barnacles is the forever glue from "Stuck in the Wringer".
• Furry Reminder: Much like a real whale, Pearl's body acts as a surface for barnacles to grow.
• Gross-Up Close-Up: When Mr. Krabs sees the barnacle, we are treated to a close-up of the barnacle while it oozes.
• Hidden Depths: Pearl apparently knows how to play the piano.
• Insistent Terminology: Mr. Krabs insists he's not making soap out of Krabby Patty grease, but Krabby Patty essence.
• Laser-Guided Karma: For using Krabby Patty grease to make soap which caused Pearl to get barnacles, Spongebob used Mr. Krabs' diamond collection to cover up her barnacles.
• Made of Indestructium: The barnacles on Pearl's face, which break all of the power tools SpongeBob uses to try and take it off.
• Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!:
  • Krabs Cutting Corners by turning leftover Patties into soap is why Pearl has face-barnacles in the first place.
  • Subverted with SpongeBob using Krabs' diamonds to hide the barnacles. It's such a comical solution that it looks like it's setting Pearl up for humiliation, only for her friends to actually respond positively.
• Overly Long Scream: Pearl's scream after seeing the barnacle on her face for the first time lasts for 10 whole seconds.
• Right Behind You: When SpongeBob discovers that Mr. Krabs has been using leftover Krabby Patties to make the soap bars that Pearl has been using and thus is the cause of her having barnacles on her face, the former worries what Pearl will say about this. Soon enough, Pearl appears behind him, very angry at what she has just overheard.
• Rise of Zitboy: Pearl's barnacles are the whale equivalent of human zits, even to the point of arising in greater numbers when her face gets greasy.
• The Scream: Pearl when she sees the barnacle on her face for the first time.
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Once it's clear that Krabs' soap-making was the source of Peral's barnacles, Krabs books it before he can face Pearl's wrath.

Patrick pet-sits Gary while SpongeBob is at his Grandma's birthday party, but Patrick proves to be horrible at such.

Pet Sitter Pat contains examples of:

• Ageless Birthday Episode: SpongeBob is invited to his grandmother's birthday. All was said about her age was that she's "turning...even older".
• Alliterative Title: Pet Sitter Pat.
• Babysitter from Hell: Patrick is portrayed in this light.
• Babysitting Episode: Pet-sitting variant. Patrick has to take care of Gary while SpongeBob is away at his grandmother's birthday party.
• Butt-Monkey: Gary until in the end of the episode where he's reading a book to Patrick.
• Continuity Nod: SpongeBob previously had someone watch Gary in "I Was A Teenage Gary." Also like that episode, Gary is shown to be weak when he is neglected by his pet-sitter.
• Continuity Snarl: Just like the sister episode, SpongeBob is somehow able to swim through the water spouting out of his house when he opens the door.
• Fire-Breathing Weapon: Patrick's idea for giving Gary a bath is by using a flamethrower.
• Happy Birthday to You!: SpongeBob sings his own birthday song when bringing out Grandma's cake.
• Hope Spot: Twice.
  • Gary is excited when Patrick pulls out a leash and offers to take him on a walk, but Patrick gets hungry and is distracted.
  • When Patrick takes out a bag of snail food while preparing Gary's bath, he proceeds to pour it all into the bath water.
• Idiot Houdini: Patrick, for all of the destruction he caused in SpongeBob's house and mistreatment towards Gary.
• Irony: The third time SpongeBob calls Patrick, he hears the flooding water in the house causing him to come home immediately, yet Gary is actually having fun that time as he was laughing along with Patrick.
• Never My Fault: Patrick takes his anger out on Gary for whatever goes wrong.
• Papa Wolf: What leads to SpongeBob realizing something is wrong with Gary and ending Grandma's party early is hearing Gary and Patrick laughing amongst the flooding water in his house.
• Rule of Three: SpongeBob calls Patrick a total of three times, first when he's worried if Gary is okay, second when reminding him about Gary's bath, and third when he brings out Grandma's cake; the last of these allows him to realize Gary is in danger and goes home immediately.
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The last time SpongeBob calls Patrick, he realizes something is wrong forcing him to cut Grandma's party short and head back home.
• Special Guest: Marion Ross returns as Grandma SquarePants.
• Split-Screen Phone Call: Done thrice whenever SpongeBob calls Patrick to check on Gary:
  • The first time is when he makes a gelatin likeness of Gary, prompting him to call up Patrick and asks him if Gary is okay. Gary has a Growling Gut and Patrick laughs, drowning out Gary's cries, and SpongeBob assumes Patrick has everything under control and hangs up.
  • The second time is when SpongeBob calls Patrick to remind him about Gary's bath, what Gary prefers about it, and especially not to forget the to-do list; Patrick angrily screams against SpongeBob that he gets it before ending the call in a huff.
  • The third and final time is when he is bringing out Grandma's cake with thousands of candles and imagines his house on fire, and he promptly calls Patrick and hears the flooding water from his house interspersed with Patrick's and Gary's laughter. Now realizing something is wrong, SpongeBob ends Grandma's birthday party early and heads right back home.
• Surprisingly Happy Ending: Despite being tortured by Patrick, and SpongeBob in horror at what happened to the house, it ends on a happy note when Gary reads Patrick a bedtime story.
• Throw the Dog a Bone: Sure Patrick did cause hell for Gary, and SpongeBob is shocked at all the disasters he saw, but the only good thing about it is Gary is reading a bedtime story for Patrick, which SpongeBob finds cute.
• Tyop on the Cover: The book titled 'Snail Tails', which actually had the correct spelling on SpongeBob's list of things to do with Gary.
