After watching Tiff show off a flipbook animation, Dedede gets the idea to create a cartoon to broadcast to the rest of the universe and enlists the folks of Cappy Town to make it, with hilarious results, especially when Dedede takes "creative liberties" with the production.

This episode provides examples of:

• Always a Live Transmission: Dedede gets all the residents of Cappy Town to work for him to make a cartoon. As they’re behind schedule on the day the cartoon premiers, he and the crew have the animation broadcast and the voice work done and recorded live on television. After the cartoon bombs, Dedede has his own soldiers make another one that they animate live, drawing and inking in real time while feeding the projector.
• Amateur Film-Making Plot: King Dedede drafts the citizens of Cappy Town to make an anime (after he's inspired by Tiff's flipbook). Aside from the show making references to real-life's anime studio working process, it shows that most of the citizens are bad at drawing and animating, especially Kirby himself (who's a toddler). The resulting anime is chock-full of Stylistic Suck as a result.
• Animation Bump:
  • In-Universe, the cartoon developed looks crude with the character models looking like doodles, but at one point the scene changes to a much more detailed JoJo-esque illustration before cutting back to the usual bad designs. Fans assumed that Meta Knight was the animator for that scene. Then there's the intro for the Japanese version, which is just the series' standard Japanese opening, with slight modifications specific to it. Making it stand out more than the rest of the cartoon following it.
  • For the episode itself, any of the instances where Dedede is 2D instead of CG, as is expected with a Dogakobo-helmed episode. Particularly his rage when he sees firsthand the Cappies' drawings of him and his Eat the Camera moment when yelling at the Cappies to get back to work.
• Artsy Beret: Escargoon wears one as the cartoon's director. In addition, Tiff wears one as the writer and animation supervisor.
• Attention Whore: Dedede is so hungry for attention that he makes his own cartoon with himself as The Protagonist.
• Berserk Button: King Dedede has one in this episode, where he sees people either drawing him poorly or drawing and painting Kirby. He even rips the first drawing of his likeness up in front of Chief Bookem's face.
• Big "WHAT?!": Upon hearing that the cartoon's deadline is in two days, a shocked Tiff responds with "Say what?!"
• Borrowed Catchphrase: Escargoon delivers this hilarious line in such a spectacular fashion. Lampshaded by Tiff:
  Escargoon: Hey, Dedede, suck it up!
  Tiff: Oh, great. They really thought of something original.
• Call-Back: Tiff's story for the first episode of the cartoon is all but based on "Kirby Comes to Cappy Town", from the final draft is adapted.
• Color Failure: A very literal one at the end of the episode happens during the Iris Out when Kirby becomes nothing but his outlines and panics. A paintbrush comes to the rescue.
• Delayed Reaction: King Dedede sees Chief Bookem's drawing for half a second and walks off, before realizing how badly drawn his drawing of him was.
• Dub-Induced Plot Hole: A minor example. In the original Japanese version, there was a brief scene with a parody of the show's standard Episode Title Card, with Tiff having an incredulous reaction to the title 「ふとった訪問者」("The Plump Visitor"). In the English dub, Tiff has a similar reaction to the title "Dedede Saves the Day", despite the English dub not having any such title cards.
• Eat the Camera: As Dedede yells at his crew to "GET BUSY!!" working on the animation, the shot zooms into his mouth.
• "Everybody Laughs" Ending: The episode ends with everyone in town gathering together to laugh at Dedede's second cartoon due to just how hilariously awful it is.
  Tuff: Hey, this is great!
  Tiff: It's one of those shows that's So Bad, It's Goodinvoked!
• Exhausted Eye Bags: Dedede overworking everyone late through the night makes everyone develop eye shadows. It's to the point that the only people who don't have this throughout the episode are Dedede and Meta Knight.
• Face Palm: Tuff does this when Dedede says the cartoon should be about him.
• Faint in Shock:
  • Dedede does this when he sees Kawasaki's drawing of him.
  • He also does it when the NME Sales Guy shows him the huge amount of cash the king would have to pay Night Mare Enterprises if the cartoon isn't finished on time.
• Hidden Depths: It's implied that Meta Knight has surprising artistic talent if the fan theory about the super-detailed scene in the finished cartoon being drawn by him is true.
• Hostile Show Takeover: Dedede's Show Within a Show is basically just a copy of Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, but with Dedede as The Hero and Protagonist, Escargoon as his good Sidekick, and Kirby as the villain.
• Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Tiff shows everyone her drawing of Kirby at the production meeting, Tuff remarks that Kirby would be a great cartoon hero.
• Melting-Film Effect: Dedede's first cartoon unintentionally wraps like this, with a very undignified shot of the king without a background being the last thing shown before it burns up completely.
• Now You Tell Me?: Dedede's reaction when Escargoon tells him that they'll have to ad-lib the ending because the script isn't finished.
  Dedede: Ad-lib?! You couldn't tell me this before, you scatterbrained slug?!?
• Opening Shout-Out: Dedede's anime has an opening that parodies the actual show's own, for both the Japanese original and the English dub's Alternative Foreign Theme Song.
  Japanese Dedede: いつでも グースデデデ 星のデデデ (Dedede's always sleeping, Dedede of the stars!)
  English-dubbed Dedede: Dedede, that's the name you should know! Dedede, he's the king of the show! You'll holler and hoot, he'll give Kirby the boot! Dedede is the one!
• Parody Sue: Twice. Tiff wants to make the cartoon about Kirby, but Dedede hijacks the development to make it all about himself instead.
• Riddle for the Ages: Who exactly did Escargoon get to draw the replacement drawings for Dedede to get him as the star of the cartoon, assuming he didn't do it himself? The Japanese version also adds to that question, as the intro is obviously of much higher quality than everything that follows.
• Rhyming Title: Cartoon Buffoon.
• Screw the Rules, I Make Them!:
  • Shortly after everyone realizes that they only have 2 more days to finish the cartoon, Dedede has this to say:
  King Dedede: I'm in charge here, copper, and what I say goes! NOW GET BUSYYYYYYY!!!!
  • Further enforced in the Japanese version, where he outright declares his kingdom as an Axis of Evil.
• So Bad, It's Good: invokedThe townsfolk think Dedede's second cartoon is a riot because of this, with Tiff using the trope verbatim to describe it.
• Stylistic Suck: Due to the Cappies being a bunch of amateurs when it comes to drawing, the resulting cartoon is very poorly drawn and inconsistent, with the quality going down the further it goes on, to the point the voice actors struggle to follow the animation without any good visual cues. Dedede's second cartoon also fits, especially since he's gotten his Waddle Dees and Escargoon to draw and paint it live as it rolls through the projector. This naturally begs the question: why he thought the Waddle Dees were skilled enough to replace the terrible drawings of the Cappies during the production of the first cartoon, when the result was, at best, negligible.
• Who Writes This Crap!?: Dedede's cheesy writing for the script does not go unnoticed by the actors, especially Meta Knight. In the original Japanese version, he finds the lines so cheesy that he believes even he can't make them sound cool, while the English dub has him complain that the lines are so out of character for him.
  Meta Knight: "Look! It is Fire Dedede, our hero!" I would never say that!
