We begin millions of years in the past with the defeat of Bibidi by Supreme Kai Shin, who decides not to sit idle by and let bad things happen in the universe. This decision puts him at odds with Lord Beerus, but the two ultimately decide to create a support system. This support system benefits both of them, greatly increasing Universe 7's mortal rating.

Years later, the Saiyan race on Planet Plant reaches a schism between malevolent and pure-hearted Saiyans, which concerns Shin. He witnesses the pure-hearted Saiyans perform the Super Saiyan God ritual on their leader, Yamoshi. When Yamoshi still struggles against the overwhelming numbers of the evil Saiyans, Shin steps in to help by erasing the malevolent Saiyans. He then offers to train Yamoshi, who accepts in order to protect innocents. One day, Beerus arrives, and after being impressed by a match with Yamoshi, he offers to train him to master the Super Saiyan God form.

In the millennia that follow, Shin continues to prevent disasters, such as the Namekian cataclysm. Despite his efforts, the Namekian Katas still sends his nameless son off-world to live a better life. Unfortunately, a race known as the Frost Demons, led by King Glacier, begins building an empire by seizing planets and selling them to the highest bidder, all under Shin’s radar. By the time Shin discovers this, Beerus instructs him to ignore it, as it makes his job easier. As Glacier’s empire grows, he is contacted by the Saiyan ruler, King Vegeta II, who offers his people’s services to the empire; with Yamoshi’s passing, the Saiyans have returned to their more ruthless ways. Although Glacier is unimpressed, his son, Prince Cold, sees the potential of the Saiyans as underlings. The Saiyans join the empire and receive advanced technology, such as scouters and pods, which are guarded and dispatched by the Saiyan Pinter and his young son Bardock.

One day, a young Saiyan girl named Gine sneaks into the pod site, curious about the new technology. She meets Bardock, and the two bond as Bardock teaches her about the pods. Eventually, Gine impulsively launches herself off-planet. Meanwhile, Glacier and Cold argue about the Saiyans—Glacier wishes to wipe them out due to their weak power levels, while Cold sees that as counterproductive. Frustrated with his son’s defiance, Glacier attacks Cold, but, weakened by age, is easily overpowered, and Cold kills him.

Gine lands on a small, blue planet called Earth, where she is found by a young human martial artist named Gohan, who adopts her as his surrogate daughter. Gine, who always disliked the brutal ways of her people, thrives on Earth under Gohan’s care and guidance. Years later, they meet a young traveling scientist named Dr. Briefs, who is searching for the legendary Dragon Balls, mystical artifacts that can summon a Dragon to grant a wish. Gine and Gohan join Briefs on his adventure, and when they finally gather all the Dragon Balls, Gine decides to use the wish to return to Planet Sadala. Her goal is to convince some of her people to abandon the violent Saiyan lifestyle and live peacefully on Earth. She bids her surrogate father farewell for now and makes the wish.

Returning to Sadala after years on Earth, Gine learns that Cold has succeeded Glacier as Emperor and that Bardock is now being deployed on missions with his own crew. Gine joins him and, over the years, becomes an integral and powerful member of his crew due to her training on Earth, though her refusal to kill anyone bothers some of her crewmates. Eventually, they have their first son, Raditz. Feeling threatened by the growing strength of this crew of low-class warriors, King Vegeta III sends one of his elite soldiers, Nappa, to keep an eye on them. Nappa joins but is irritated by Gine’s habit of sparing her enemies. The two get into a fight, but Gine is far too strong for him. Later, Gine and Bardock have their second child, a girl named Jocha.

King Cold then tasks King Vegeta with destroying the planet Kanassa, feeling threatened by the Kanassans' ability to see the future. King Vegeta and his elites devastate the Kanassans, but not before one of them curses the king with visions of the future. Through these visions, King Vegeta foresees a future where Cold’s son, Frieza, destroys Planet Sadala and kills all Saiyans. The remaining Kanassans escape, and seeing the potential of the twin sons of the Saiyan Paragus, King Vegeta sends one son to live on Vampa with Paragus and adopts the other, Broly, alongside his own sons, Princes Vegeta IV and Tarble.

As time passes, Bardock and Gine have two more children, a pair of twins: a boy named Kakarot and a girl named Goku, whom Gine names to honor her adoptive father from Earth. However, King Vegeta has Jocha kidnapped after seeing a vision of her. Gine is devastated, but Bardock’s crew continues their missions. On the planet Cereal, Bardock and Gine choose to spare a Cerealian woman and her son, Granolah. When the Heeters arrive, Gine and Bardock defend the remaining Cerealians, killing Gas and Elec. They offer to escort the survivors off-planet, but a resident Namekian, Monaito, declines and uses his own Dragon Balls to undo the damage.

Later, King Vegeta sends Bardock’s crew to Kanassa to ensure Bardock is cursed with future visions. There, they encounter a surviving Kanassan who offers the gift of foresight, which Bardock accepts. He immediately receives a vision of his crew being attacked by Dodoria, and Frieza annihilating the Saiyans, before collapsing. Later, his vision comes true when Dodoria and Frieza’s men ambush them, but Bardock, now recovered, saves his crew. Now aware of Frieza’s intentions, they prepare to save their people. Bardock has Gine send Raditz and Kakarot in separate pods to Earth, and he gets into a third pod with Goku, setting all three pods on course for Earth.

King Vegeta and Bardock then lead an all-out assault on Frieza, but Frieza is far too powerful. Accepting his fate, King Vegeta sees this as ensuring the survival of the Saiyan race. Bardock, enraged by their impending doom, explodes in fury, his hair turning gold as he transforms into a Super Saiyan. This shocks Frieza, and the tide begins to turn in the Saiyans' favor. Frieza transforms into his second form, but still cannot overpower Bardock. Transforming again, he regains the upper hand, but is struck by Shin, who advises Bardock’s crew to perform the Super Saiyan God ritual. Bardock’s hair turns red as he ascends to Super Saiyan God, shifting the advantage back to his side. Even in his final form at full power, Frieza is unable to keep up, and he is ultimately defeated and horrifically mutilated.

Soon after, Whis and Shin discuss the rise of a Super Saiyan God. Whis reveals that he has taken Paragus’s other son from Vampa and adopted him as his own.

Gine and Goku land in a large city on Earth, near Capsule Corp, where they reunite with an older Dr. Briefs, who introduces her to his wife, Panchy, and his daughter, Bulma. Briefs is then contacted by his other daughter, Tights, who informs him that another spaceship has arrived. Meanwhile, young Raditz lands near Mt. Paozu and is accosted by a farmer with a shotgun (yes, that one). He’s rescued by an elderly Gohan, whom Raditz recognizes from Gine’s stories. Raditz reveals he is Gine’s son, and Gohan takes him home to care for him. Following Tights’ lead, Gine and Briefs discover that the new arrival isn’t one of her children but Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, who is searching for Saiyans. Jaco attempts to take Gine in, but she overpowers him. After Tights vouches for her, Jaco leaves. Gine reunites with Gohan and Raditz but remains worried about Kakarot.

Kakarot’s pod is eventually discovered by the Red Ribbon Army, who notice his unusual strength and decide to turn him into a weapon, enlisting Dr. Gero to study him. However, Gero’s wife, Vomi, chooses to protect Kakarot by adopting him as her son to shield him from her husband’s darker plans.

Meanwhile, Bardock and the Saiyans celebrate their victory and request Bardock to become their new king, but he defers to Queen Casava. They prepare for an inevitable war with a vengeful King Cold, who finds Frieza, severely mutilated, drifting in space. Cold has his men enhance Frieza with cybernetics, but. Disappointed in his son’s impulsiveness, Cold exiles Frieza and reclaims his position as Emperor, announcing it across the galaxy. Upon hearing this, Gine decides to stay on Earth, believing it is safer under the Empire’s radar. In his exile, Frieza begins building his own faction, manipulating Tarble, Prince Vegeta, Broly, and Nappa into joining him. The loyal Ginyu Force remain by his side. Cold eventually attacks Sadala, but Bardock kills him. In his final moments, Cold regrets not heeding the warnings of his father or son but finds solace in knowing that Frieza and his other son, Cooler, will carry on his legacy.

On Earth, Gine resolves to gather the Dragon Balls to locate and reunite with Kakarot and Jocha. However, the Dragon is unable to fulfill her wish, as mysterious energies from the Red Ribbon Army’s modifications are blocking his ability to locate them. Determined, Gine vows to find them one day.

Briefs gives Gine an apartment in West City to live in with Raditz and Goku. We jump forward about a decade. The two young Saiyans attend school in the city during the weekdays. On weekends, Gine and Raditz train with Grandpa Gohan, while Goku spends time at Capsule Corp, developing a sisterly bond with Bulma and learning how to build. Goku also trains in karate in West City, where she befriends a young boy named Mark.

One day, Bulma finds her dad's old Dragon Radar and fixes it up. Bulma, Goku, Raditz, and Mark set out on a Dragon Ball adventure. However, they aren’t the only ones searching; the Red Ribbon Army is beginning their own quest. Kakarot, now about 12 years old, has been renamed Jasper and augmented into a Red Ribbon android. Despite being a child, he is their top soldier and has been tasked with finding the Dragon Balls along with his handler and adopted brother, Gevo.

Meanwhile, a time machine arrives at Mt. Paozu, and out pops Future Trunks and Future Ranch. Nearby, Goku, Raditz, Bulma, and Mark arrive at Grandpa Gohan’s to pick up his Four Star Dragon Ball when Raditz senses two high power levels approaching. Trunks and Ranch fly in, confused to see Bulma so young, realizing they arrived too far in the past. They are even more shocked to see Raditz on Earth so early and that Goku is a girl.

The misunderstanding escalates into a fight, with Ranch quickly overpowering Raditz, Goku, and Mark, though she doesn’t seriously harm them. The two half-Saiyans explain to Raditz, Goku, Bulma, Mark, and Grandpa Gohan that they are from the future. When they aren’t believed, Ranch transforms into a Super Saiyan, which Raditz takes as proof. They warn them about an evil faction of the Red Ribbon Army that has killed most of Earth’s heroes in their timeline. Grandpa Gohan then mentions that the Army has Kakarot, shocking Trunks and Ranch even more.

Jasper and Gevo arrive at Kame House on Roshi’s island, demanding he hand over the Dragon Ball in his possession. A fight breaks out, with Roshi unable to keep up with Jasper’s strength and ability to learn while fighting. Roshi is severely injured.

Trunks convinces Ranch that they should stay in the past and deal with the Red Ribbon Army while they are not as powerful as they will be in the future. The group runs to Kame House and finds Roshi in critical condition, so they take the old master to the hospital. They set out to find the Dragon Balls before the Red Ribbon Army does. Trunks and Ranch are aghast to find their respective parents, Bulma and Raditz, flirting. They also meet Ox King and Chi-Chi, the latter of whom joins them.

Meanwhile, Jasper recovers from his fight with Roshi and continues his mission with Gevo. They encounter the Pilaf Gang and their hired gun, Launch. A fight breaks out, leaving the Pilaf Gang severely injured. Gevo is about to kill them when Ranch jumps in and saves them. Shocked to see their long-lost brother, Raditz and Goku try to convince Jasper to come with them to see Gine. The future duo decides to confront the Red Ribbon Army while Jasper fights Raditz and Goku.

They siege the base easily, tearing through the Red Ribbon stronghold until they confront Dr. Gero. Trunks attempts to reason with him. Having no issue with Vomi and feeling they owe her for taking care of Kakarot, Ranch flies Vomi away while Trunks destroys the entire base, killing Gero. Ranch flies Vomi toward Jasper, Raditz, and Goku, where Gine arrives and tries to reach out to Jasper. Vomi tells Jasper that Gero is gone and that he should get to know his biological mother. She assures him that she will always be there for him.

With the Army destroyed, Trunks and Ranch decide to return to the future, hoping that Bulma, Gohan, Bansari, and Mai are still there. As they leave, something goes wrong, and the time machine violently disappears. The group takes Kakarot and Vomi to West City. Bulma and Raditz become a couple. Kakarot reclaims his birth name and apologizes to Roshi, agreeing to help him recover on his island.

Kakarot and Roshi are joined by Goku, Mark, and Chi-Chi. Roshi decides to train the group, and they are eventually joined by the young monk Krillin. However, Krillin's antagonistic behavior gets him kicked out of Roshi’s training soon after.

On Sadala, Bardock continues to train with his crew. Deciding it’s too dangerous to bring his family back from Earth, Bardock focuses on recruiting Vegeta, Tarble, and Broly from Frieza’s command. While searching, he and his crew come across a planet being drained by a giant tree. They encounter the Crusher Corps, led by the Saiyan Turles, and are pleasantly surprised to find Bardock's long-lost daughter, Jocha, among them. Jocha explains that she and Turles were part of a group of unusually strong local Saiyan children who trained on a planet but were eventually abandoned and stranded by the other members of their group. They were rescued by the remaining Heeters—Oil and Macki—and joined them as muscle, eventually taking over and forming the Crusher Corps.

Bardock is proud of his daughter, who provides him with intel on Vegeta, Tarble, and Broly’s whereabouts. The Crusher Corps joins Bardock’s crew, and they find the three Saiyan princes. They try to convince Vegeta to join them, but he refuses, leading to a fight. Both Bardock and Vegeta are shocked to discover that the other has learned to become a Super Saiyan. Vegeta reveals he mastered it through training with Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan. While Bardock manages to defeat Vegeta, Broly steps in and proves to be far too powerful for Bardock’s crew and the Crusher Corps. The teams escape and return to Casals to deliver the disappointing news that the three princes are now under Frieza’s command.

During the months of training, Goku, Kakarot, Chi-Chi, and Mark greatly improve under Roshi’s guidance as they prepare for the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. Raditz takes on a new trainee, Launch, while a jealous Bulma begins working on a suit of armor to help her compete with the martial artists. When the tournament rolls around, Goku, Kakarot, Chi-Chi, Mark, and Raditz all qualify. Also qualifying are a desert bandit named Yamcha, a familiar-looking old man named Jackie Chun (Roshi in disguise), and Krillin, who has joined the Crane School under Roshi’s enemy, Master Shen.

The first match is Raditz vs. Krillin, which goes in Krillin’s favor as he grabs Raditz’s tail, exploiting a Saiyan weakness. Next up is Goku vs. Yamcha, which begins with Yamcha gaining the upper hand before Goku counters with an energy attack. The two commend each other for a good fight. The third match is Chi-Chi vs. Mark, where Mark loses. The final match of the first round is Kakarot vs. Roshi, who seeks to teach his students that there is always a stronger opponent. The Saiyan android, however, is way out of his league and wins the match easily.

The first match of Round Two is Goku against Krillin. Goku avenges her brother by hiding her tail, deflecting Krillin’s Do Do Ron Pa, and pinning him down, which gets Krillin kicked out of the Crane School. In the second match of Round Two, Kakarot defeats Chi-Chi. In the final round, Goku faces off against Kakarot. The twins are almost evenly matched, but Kakarot wins, while Goku learns the lesson Roshi intended to teach them. Unfortunately, Kakarot feels he has learned enough from Roshi and decides to move to West City with his moms and siblings, while Mark stays with Roshi to continue learning.

Goku sets out on Nimbus to reach out to Krillin, feeling bad for him. However, she is shot down and captured by Gevo.

Kakarot tries to settle into city life, but due to his upbringing, he doesn’t know much about how to interact with people outside of fighting. He trains Bulma, helping her improve her battle suit and teaching her to fight. Jealous and embarrassed by his defeat in the tournament, Raditz decides to train with Launch to overcome his tail weakness. Chi-Chi encounters blonde Launch and learns about her split personality. Chi-Chi befriends Launch and decides to help her.

After a few days, Gine begins to worry about Goku. She, Raditz, and Kakarot go searching for her and ask Fortuneteller Baba for help. After being paid by Bulma, Baba tells them that Goku has been captured by Gevo. Enraged that his brother would hurt his twin sister, Kakarot leaves with Raditz and Gine, determined to burn what’s left of the Red Ribbon Army to the ground.

The three confront Gevo, who tries to convince Kakarot to rejoin the army. Gevo calls on Tao and Blue to fight them. They engage Kakarot while Gine chases Gevo, who repeatedly tries and fails to hold her off. Just as Raditz is about to kill Gevo, Kakarot stops him, not wanting his big brother to kill his adopted brother. A fight breaks out between Kakarot and Raditz, but Gine intervenes and declares that no one else should die.

In the aftermath, Kakarot gets into an argument with his family and friends, storming off alone. Goku recovers from her capture, while Chi-Chi and Launch begin training under Fortuneteller Baba. Mark starts a relationship with a singer named Miguel. Gevo sits in a prison cell where he is approached by a Kai named Zamasu, who breaks Tao and Blue out. The trio heads to Gero’s old lab, where they begin working with a computer containing the deceased scientist’s consciousness.

On Planet Cereal, the Cerelians are thriving, and Granolah has become a bounty hunter. They are visited by the Crusher Corps, who inform them that while they are working as Heeters, they are secretly part of Bardock’s rebellion. Feeling indebted to Bardock, Granolah joins the Crusher Corps.

Three years after the fight with Gevo, all of the fighters have improved. Under Fortuneteller Baba’s training, Chi-Chi has learned to combine her magic skills with her ki, creating a ki construct of a bull. Launch has learned to get her two personalities in tune, allowing her to summon magical guns. Bulma has greatly upgraded her suit and has learned to fight well with training from Raditz, although their relationship is on the rocks. She occasionally visits Kakarot in the woods to train. Kakarot has bonded with a shogun named Yajirobe, who he trains with. Goku has begun to heal from her traumatic experiences with the Red Ribbon Army. Mark, now going by the stage name Hercule, invites everyone to reunite at the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, where his girlfriend Miguel will be singing. Jaco visits to check in on the Saiyans and joins everyone at the tournament.

While things are awkward between Kakarot and Raditz, the reunion is mostly pleasant. They notice Master Shen with two new students, Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu. Also joining are Krillin, who is now taller with a full head of hair, and he claims to be much more powerful than before. Bulma, Yamcha, Yajirobe, and Chiaotzu do not qualify, and Roshi doesn’t even try to join, but the rest make it in.

The first match is Hercule vs. Tenshinhan. Hercule’s wacky fighting style proves too much for Tien, who is unaccustomed to unconventional fighting. Tien sends a Tri-Beam toward the ring, seemingly vaporizing Hercule. However, the former Satan dojo fighter appears behind Tien and knocks him into the crater he just created. Launch uses her magic to create a new arena. As Shen is about to chastise Tien for losing the same way he did to Krillin, Goku blasts him away with a burning attack. Krillin mocks Tien for losing to the weakest member of the Hermit School, prompting Tien to attack him. However, the former monk showcases his new strength by quickly knocking Tien away.

The next match is Goku vs. Launch, who can now coordinate between her personalities and swap at will. She uses a magic gun to barrage Goku, but Goku wins out with a Buster Cannon. The two shake hands afterward. In the third round, Kakarot faces Krillin. Kakarot is excited to fight Krillin and showcase his new power. Krillin matches Kakarot blow for blow, impressing him, and Kakarot decides to stop holding back. They beat each other bloody, which makes Kakarot happy. They engage in a beam war between Krillin’s Tri-Beam and Kakarot’s Kamehameha, but Krillin’s body gives out from the strain of the Tri-Beam, leading to his defeat. Upset, Krillin reveals he used the Dragon Balls to wish himself into a Saiyan. Gine offers to help him adjust, but he just flies off. As he flies away, Krillin is approached by a demon named Tambourine, who offers him a chance at revenge by telling him to kill a member of the group.

The next match is Raditz against Chi-Chi. Chi-Chi, obviously no match for Raditz’s raw power, switches tactics and uses her Raging Bull technique. Raditz counters with a Double Sunday, leading to another beam clash. Chi-Chi lands outside the ring and loses.

The first match of round two is Goku vs. Hercule. Goku wins but is impressed with Mark’s improvement. The second match features brothers Raditz and Kakarot. Raditz shows vast improvement, and the two, still angry with each other about Gevo, do not hold back. Raditz rips off Kakarot’s tail and uses a fake moon to transform into a Great Ape. Raditz reveals he was not angry with Kakarot and only wanted to teach him the lesson that Roshi tried to impart. After talking it out, Raditz forfeits, and Kakarot is welcomed back into the family.

In the final round, Goku faces Kakarot. The match is close, but the male twin emerges victorious. With Kakarot back in the fold, he decides to treat the group to a feast with the prize money, inviting Tien and Chiaotzu to join them. Vomi goes to collect the money so Kakarot can continue catching up with his family. After a while, they hear a loud scream from Vomi coming from the arena. Kakarot rushes in to find Vomi on the floor with Krillin standing over her. As Krillin leaves, Kakarot notices that his adopted mother is dead. Everyone walks in and is shocked. Kakarot lets out a loud scream, and as his hair turns gold and his body unleashes a golden aura, he transforms into a Super Saiyan, shocking his family.

Kakarot quickly reverts back to his base form, passing out from the stress. Roshi recognizes the demon insignia on a piece of paper at Vomi’s feet and informs everyone about King Piccolo and his reign of terror centuries ago before he was sealed away. Bulma notices someone is gathering the Dragon Balls and reasons that it may be the demons. Bulma, Raditz, Gine, Goku, and Launch set off to find King Piccolo and Krillin, while Yamcha, Chi-Chi, Tien, and Mark stay behind to take care of Kakarot.

On Pilaf’s floating ship, Krillin is horrified at what he’s done, but the Demon King Piccolo tells him to get over it. The Pilaf Gang are revealed to be the ones who freed King Piccolo. Still mad that Krillin betrayed them by using the Dragon Balls to become a Saiyan, they try to warn King Piccolo, but the Demon King orders Krillin to kill them. Just then, Bulma attacks the ship, blowing it up. The Pilaf Gang escapes as Bulma is joined by Launch, Goku, Raditz, and Gine. Upon seeing King Piccolo, Raditz and Gine recognize him as a Namekian. Confused about why an alien is on Earth pretending to be a demon, they ask him, perplexing King Piccolo, who has no knowledge of his own true nature.

King Piccolo tries to fight Raditz but is no match for him. Enraged, Gine unleashes her fury on Krillin, regretting showing him compassion and demonstrating that she is the strongest being on the planet. Gine then helps Goku and Launch against Tambourine and Drum. Raditz nearly kills King Piccolo, but remembers that Gine doesn’t want that. Instead, he decides to use space patrol handcuffs to arrest them and hand them over to Jaco. However, Tambourine attacks Bulma, nearly killing her. Enraged, Raditz’s body releases a golden aura. He doesn’t become a Super Saiyan, but he transforms into something in between. Raditz then beats the demons and Krillin.

Just as he’s about to kill Piccolo, he’s stopped by a voice that tells him if he kills the Namekian, the Dragon Balls will disappear. Raditz stops and agrees to work with the voice, heading to Korin’s Tower. Piccolo escapes with Krillin and Piano. Raditz and Goku travel to Korin’s Tower, where they meet Bora and Upa, who inform them that climbing the tower will grant them great strength. They choose to climb instead of flying and quickly reach the top, where they meet Korin. Korin sends them to Kami’s Lookout above the tower.

At the Lookout, they meet Mr. Popo and the Guardian of Earth, Kami, who looks just like Piccolo. Kami explains that he and Piccolo split from the same being years ago. He begins to teach Goku and Raditz the Evil Containment Wave. Meanwhile, at Capsule Corp, Gine puts Bulma in her Saiyan pod to heal her. Kakarot wakes up and wants to find Krillin. He sets off, with Tien following, and Chi-Chi and Mark following on Nimbus.

As Piccolo and his crew gather the Dragon Balls, Kakarot and the others arrive. Upon seeing Krillin, Kakarot's Super Saiyan power awakens again, and he kills Piano. Scared, Piccolo abandons Krillin, who is subsequently beaten within an inch of his life by Kakarot, disturbing his friends. Piccolo summons the Dragon, but Kakarot interrupts. He wishes to bring back Vomi, but Shenron tells him that is not within his power. Furious and distraught, Kakarot blasts the dragon away, killing him.

Raditz and Goku arrive to try to stop Kakarot from killing Piccolo. They fail, and Kakarot blasts a hole through Piccolo’s chest. Dying, the Demon King spits out an egg at Mark's feet, telling it to avenge him. Exhausted, Kakarot tries to finish off Krillin, but Goku knocks him out.

Krillin is arrested by Jaco, and as they leave, Kakarot apologizes for his actions. Accepting them as family, Kakarot decides he still needs to be alone and goes off. Kami wants to destroy the egg, but Mark intervenes, offering to raise the child and arguing that it deserves a second chance. Kami accepts, and Mark and Miguel take the egg, raising the child together.

Raditz and Bulma break up due to his family grief and her work, but they remain close friends. He and Goku go to the Lookout to train with Kami for three years.

In the galactic prison, Krillin is admired by the other prisoners. He is visited by Zamasu, who finds him interesting due to his transformation from human to Saiyan. Zamasu offers to free him, but Krillin declines, believing he belongs there and because the last time he trusted a green guy didn't end well.

Meanwhile, Vegeta, Tarble, and Broly are called in to meet Frieza, who has knowledge of a Saiyan in the Galactic Prison.

In the three years following the defeat of King Piccolo, Raditz and Goku trained at Kami’s Lookout, joined by Tien and Yajirobe. Goku suggested Tien’s inclusion, concerned that, as a former Crane School student, he might risk turning out like Krillin. The training proved beneficial for Tien, significantly boosting his power and helping him become a more spiritual man, allowing him to keep pace with the Saiyans. Yajirobe joined after spending time with Korin. Initially turned away by Kami, Goku convinced him to let the ronin join their training.

The quartet decided to test the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, a pocket dimension where a year passes for every day outside. Tien and Goku didn’t last long in the chamber, but Raditz and Yajirobe excelled, enduring an entire year inside. During this time, Raditz finally achieved Super Saiyan, while Goku struggled to reach the same level.

Meanwhile, Piccolo Jr., raised by Mark and Miguel, enjoyed a good upbringing, despite maturing quickly in just three years. He became a kinder individual than his father and formed close bonds with the group, eventually joining a bodyguard agency run by Launch. The agency thrived, and Piccolo generously contributed the earnings to his parents.

As the three years conclude, everyone decides to reunite for the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament.

On the tournament day, a time machine suddenly crashes into the ocean, with Trunks and Raunch escaping just before it sank. Having just killed Gero moments ago, they realize they ware not in their home time. Approached by Goku and Raditz, they are shocked to learn it had been six years since they last saw the group. The sight of a more benign Piccolo lrmwaves them bewildered, as he’s supposed to still be evil at this time. Raunchi stunned to see her mother Launch so strong.

Bulma arrives, donned in armor and cradling a purple-haired baby. The revelation of the baby as her daughter, Caulifla, with Kakarot as the father, throws Trunks for a loop. While Goku is thrilled to meet his niece, both Raditz and Trunks faint at the news. Bulma explains that she had visited Kakarot during the past three years, and they eventually became a couple. However, she also reveals that Kakarot is not ready to see everyone and will not participate in the tournament.

Joining the tournament iss Mercenary Tao, whom Mark recognizes as the man who killed his martial arts master when he was a child. Shocked that the Red Ribbon Army still exists, even after he killed Gero and blew up their base, Trunks demands answers. Tao reveals that Gero’s son, Gevo, has continued his father’s work. While Trunks sets off to find Gevo, Raunch is persuaded by Gine to stay and participate in the tournament.

The first round matchups are set: Mark vs. Tao, Goku vs. Chi-Chi, Tien vs. Piccolo, and Raditz vs. Raunch. In the first match, Tao taunts Mark about his master, provoking an explosive rage from him. Declaring himself Hercule now, Mark powers up into a buff form and dominates Tao, launching him away with a Kamehameha and finally avenging his master

In the next match, Chi-Chi showcases her magic, but Goku’s training under Kami gives her a significant advantage. Tien faces Piccolo, hoping to prove himself as a better man than his father. The match is evenly matched, but Tien ultimately emerges victorious, and Piccolo takes the loss gracefully. In the final first-round match, Raditz faces his future daughter, Raunch. Although she is stronger, she is astonished at Raditz's power. When she transforms into Super Saiyan, Raditz follows suit. Impressed, she chooses to forfeit, not wanting their fight to escalate.

In the second round, Goku easily defeatsHercule, while Raditz overcomes Tien. The final match between the siblings sees Raditz agree not to use Super Saiyan. Goku emerges victorious with superior skill, finally claiming the title of Martial Arts World Champion.

After the tournament, Bulma examines the time machine and discovers to her horror that the fuel tank is empty, indicating that Trunks and Raunch are stranded in this time.

As Trunks searches for Gevo in his Super Saiyan form, he encounters Kakarot, who demands the time machine to return to the past and save Vomi. When Trunks refuses, Kakarot attacks Trunks who proves to be the first person capable of holding off Kakarot in battle. Just as the fight escalates, Bulma and Raunch arrives. Bulma slaps Kakarot for trying to steal the time machine, fearing it could erase their daughter. Guilt-ridden, Kakarot apologizes and flies away.

Raunch confides in Trunks that she had informed Bulma about everything, prompting Bulma to realize Trunks is her son from the future. She vows to help them return to their time, and they resolve to change things for the better while stranded in the past, which includes training the warriors to prepare for Gevo and the Androids.

Meanwhile, in space, the Galactic Prison lay in ruins, with many patrolmen dead. Jaco lays bloodied at the feet of Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan, who is about to kill him until Tarble intervenes, reminding him they had what they came for. Jaco passed out.

Vegeta approaches Krillin’s cell and demands to know Bardock's whereabouts. Krillin replies that he doesn’t know who Bardock is. When Vegeta transformed into Super Saiyan, Krillin is terrified, insisting he only knows Kakarot, Raditz, Goku, and Gine. Nappa recognizes Gine as the wife of Bardock who had bested him in battle years ago. They press Krillin for Gine’s location, and he informs them she was on Earth. Vegeta orders Krillin to take him there and informs Frieza of their lead. Frieza was eager to exact revenge on Bardock.

The Saiyan Toma, eavesdropping on the transmission, informals Bardock that Frieza and Vegeta had found his wife and children. Bardock contacts Turles for help and set out to rescue his family.
