Chuggington S 3 E 6 Recap

Magnetic Wilson

After an incident with the storm simulator causes Koko to break her wheel, Wilson sets out to find metal in order to make a replacement- but a mishap with a magnetic crane leaves him attracting metal junk from all over Chuggington.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming:
    Wilson: Wait, it’s me, Wilson!
Old Puffer Pete: Is that you, Wingnut?
  • Audible Gleam: One of these shines on a tin can that Wilson spots.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The storm simulator ends up being used to give Wilson the shaking he needs to demagnetize him.
  • Hold Your Hippogriffs:
Emery: Aw, not fair! Wait ‘till I get my wheels on you!
  • Hollywood Magnetism: For some reason, the magnetic crane spits yellow sparks when it’s set too high; Wilson’s magnetic field also follows the cartoon magnetism law of “larger metal objects are affected later than smaller ones, but aren’t actually any harder to move once they get going”. There’s also the fact that being shaken up and down a sufficient amount will demagnetize Wilson.
  • Look Behind You: How does Emery manage to tag Zephie?
Emery: Oh, what a cute puppy!
    Zephie: Ooh! Where?
    (Emery tags her)
    • Zephie manages to get back at him:
    Zephie: Emery, Vee’s calling you!
Emery: Huh? I can’t hear her.
    (She tags him)
  • Poor Communication Kills: When Wilson attempts to turn the storm simulator up so he and Koko can be done in time for a game of Tandem Chug Tag, he sets it too high… and when Koko shouts for him to stop, he mishears her as saying “up!” and increases the wind speed further.
  • Selective Magnetism: Wilson’s magnetism affects small to mid-size metal objects, but the other chuggers are apparently immune to it.
  • Title Drop: After Vee announces that the Tandem Chug Tag championship will start in ten minutes:
Wilson: C’mon, Koko, you’d better stick with Magnetic Wilson!
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: Wilson magnetizing himself by misusing the magnetic crane serves as the A-plot, while Brewster and Emery playing a game of Tandem Chug Tag against Zephie and Hodge and Hoot and Toot makes up the B-plot.
