Protagonist Power-Up Privileges in Power Rangers/Super Sentai: Usually, the Red Ranger gains access to the more impressive weapons, mecha and/or power ups that the rest of the team won't get. If the red ranger gains an extra mecha, there is a high chance it can transform into a robot on its own without any other components and fights just as good, if not better than the team's initial combined mecha.
- Power Rangers takes it a step further, as the Red Ranger usually has a "Battlizer" or some equivalent power-up that gives him armor and new abilities, and usually the other rangers will not get a similar power. Some Super Sentai series also follow this practice, giving only the red ranger a power up, but this is not as regular as in Power Rangers.
- This trend seemingly started in Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger. Just before the Sixth Ranger died, he transferred his powers and ownership over his mecha Dragon Ceasar over to the red ranger, enabling him to don golden chest armor and use the Sixth Ranger's weapon. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers did the same, except the Sixth Ranger didn't die.
- Ressha Sentai ToQger plays with the trope: while Right/ToQ1 gets an extra form that nobody else does, said form is Blessed with Suck and while outwardly powerful, also makes him incapable of defeating the Big Bad as long as he's using it. All of the other powerups can be shared among the teamnote , even if Right tends to be the character to unlock the new powers first.
- Some Super Sentai series of The New '20s, such as Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger, Avataro Sentai Donbrothers, and No.1 Sentai Gozyuger zigzag this trend: while the red ranger still gets his own exclusive power-up at one point, he's also the only one to not initially have a personal weapon, using only the team's Transformation Trinket until the end of the first arc.
- No.1 Sentai Gozyuger plays it straight when it comes to the distribution of the Sentai Rings, with Hoeru continuing to hold the most Rings out of the rest of his team.
