Younger and Hipper

Basic Trope: When a work gets rebranded to make it look cool to the new, younger crowd.

  • Straight: Suzie The Singer was a Christian edutainment show about a young angel woman named Suzie who came down to Earth to sing educational jazz songs and teach people about whatever. Its spinoff SuzieSupreme has Suzie be a teenager instead of an adult and perform rap and pop instead.
  • Exaggerated: Suzie was nearly 90 years old in the main series and sang old timey music. The clothes she wore were very 1910s, and the tunes she sang were of the early jazz and traditional blues genres, The slang she uses was of the 1910s decade. But come the spinoff show and Suzie is now 10, and her defining genres were pop, rock, rap, hip-hop, and whatever was hot at the time. She wears clothes that were trendy in the 2000s, and she doesn't teach anything anymore. She also includes trendy slang in her dialogue and references trendy memes.
  • Downplayed: Suzie in the spinoff is only 20-30 years old, and sings hip-hop jazz and pop-crossover jazz tunes. Her clothing still has a touch of old-timeyness in it.
  • Justified: That's Suzie in an alternate universe.
  • Inverted: Suzie in the new spinoff is in her 50s, she wears the old-timey clothes, performs the old-timey music, uses old-timey slang in her dialogue.
  • Subverted: SuzieSupreme was advertised as a fresh new take on Suzie The Singer for the new generation, but when the first episode airs for the first few minutes, it starts out like an old episode of Suzie The Singer...
  • Double Subverted: ...come the next few minutes, though, and it quickly switches to the 2000s-fest that it is.
  • Zig-Zagged: Some episodes are old-timey, others aren't.
  • Averted: SuzieSupreme isn't some trendy spinoff show. It's more like a reboot of Suzie The Singer.
  • Lampshaded: "This is not your mama's Suzie!"
  • Invoked: The cast and crew of SuzieSupreme was forced to make it "cooler" and "trendier" by the executives.
  • Defied: SuzieSupreme slowly shifts out of the 2000s theming it had at the start and becomes more like a revival of Suzie The Singer.
  • Conversed: "Man, they ruined Suzie The Singer! They made it all hip and neon-y and radical to appeal to the kids of today, while removing what made the OG show special! None of what the new one has is even trendy today!"
  • Deconstructed: Because of the executives' dumb move, SuzieSupreme becomes hated for not having what people loved so much about the original show.

Yo! Go back to Younger and Hipper, dude!
