Save the World
- In alpha versions of the game, the world map music was really unsettling, filled with beeps, chatter and tuning from radios alongside some not so welcoming music. The offficial release wasn't any better with the llama shop music being a slowed down version of the main menu music which really sets in the post apocalyptic vibe this game was going for.
- If you look close enough, most of the Husks wear their own faces as hoodies.
- To make things worse, Dwarf Husks awfully closely resemble children. Zombified children.
- And if that wasn't enough, survivor transformations and most of the expeditions require PEOPLE as a resource. Don't ask.
- The Storm is implied to not only be intelligent and an Eldritch Abomination in its own right, the modern day isn't the first time it's come for humanity. In essence, it feels like an alien invader rather than a force of nature, and its objective and agenda is mysterious, with the only thing absolutely known for sure is that it hates humanity with a passion.
Battle Royale
- In the Season 5 cutscene revealing the rifts, there's one rift that takes away someone's glider before he's landed.
- The Cube Monsters rivals the Husks of looking more grotesque and being more aggressive to the players.
- The T-Pose Emote jingle
is a sinister-sounding piece of white noise that sounds like a satanic ritual to some. Though it noticeably deflates when your character starts getting tired. - The Demogorgon, a lanky creature with a Flower Mouth for a face, is a skin in Fortnite, though it completely loses it scare factor once it starts dancing and emoting.
- If you think that was scary, the game also brought in the similarly scary Xenomorph (who has a built-in emote that truly ups the scare factor befitting it) along with a comical take on the iconic Chest Burster scene (with a Llama-fied Facehugger), Predator (though it was a past Battle Pass reward), The Shape (aka Micheal Myers) with the latter bringing his iconic theme as an emote that can make things really creepy (especially in horror themed modes), Billy the Puppet (along with his iconic creepy tricycle as a traversal emote that ups the creepiness factor, whether with Billy or any character), and that's half of the horror icons that are currently in the game.
- The monster under Polar Peak was finally revealed, and it was even more horrifying than people imagined. Thankfully, Mecha Team Leader was able to kill it.
- Canisters of Joker Gas started appearing in various places around the island. The infamous Monster Clown is loose on the island and no one knows where he is. Later on, the man himself appeared alongside Poison Ivy...
- The tsunami that appeared after Midas's attempt to control the storm failed. A massive wall of water than closes in on the island, literally pushing players into the center of the circle, looming over them constantly...
- Someone figured how to make other characters do Kit's exclusive Go Cat Go emote. Kit is a cat in a transforming Mobile-Suit Human, and flesh and blood people doing that particular emote looks... less than pleasant.
- The Loot Sharks are rather intimidating in appearance, and unless there's loot out for them to eat, will target any players nearby. They have a wide detection range, do 50 damage with each chomp, and can leap HIGH into the air to attack someone, tearing through walls to get at their prey. Many a streamer has been in a building, thinking they were safe, and trying to heal with a shark suddenly comes bursting through the wall and devouring them.
- Kevin the Cube came close to destroying the island last time, unleashing a tide of darkness and Husk-like monsters. Now there are SEVERAL Cubes. And its heavily implied that they have a leader.
- The Cube Queen is that leader. And she seems utterly unstoppable. She unleashes a horde of the massive Cube Fiends called Caretakers on the Loopers, and during the final battle with her, its implied that her corruption has taken over the entire island. She rips a massive hole in the sky, revealing a huge invading army of Motherships and a massive, Death Star-sized ship called the Cube's Cradle, all ready to invade this world. Literally the only way to stop her is flipping the island around...
- The Imagined Order is digging up the Devourer, for purposes unknown...
- Imposters:
- Peely Mode. Now, on the surface, it doesn't seem that intimidating. Peely is goofy and funny, yay! Except EVERYONE looks like Peely, and behind one of those peels is an imposter, dead set on trapping you in between worlds...
- Imposters can complete tasks themselves. That Cuddle Team Leader you saw cleaning spraypaint off the battle bus as you pass by may actually be one of the Imposters, and follow you out into the hallway to eliminate you...
- Chapter 3, Season 4 starts out with the chrome substance covering the Scientist, the Origin, and the Visitor and causing them to melt into blobs of shapeless go. The Paradigm is forced to flee as something new rises from the mass they used to be...
- Chapter 3 Season 3 brought in the iconic Dragon Ball to the game, however they also brought it several villains from the franchise, villains that famously put the fears into the hearts of fans:
- Goku Black (who was pure nightmare for the Z Fighters due to being an Evil Counterpart of the normally heroic Son Goku that has his body stolen from him by Zamasu, who later fused with the immortal Zamasu) is downright scary and imposing, while he does lose a little bit of his scare factor via the goofy emotes, the implications of him joining Fortnite implies he's here to bring his Zero Mortals Plan to Zero Point's own reality, thankfully there are powerful heroes like the likes of Son Goku, Future Trunks and many others (such as the DC and Marvel Heroes) to keep him in check.
- Lord Frieza would finally join the game proper in Chapter 5 Season 1 and he's just as nightmarish to be around (again this goes away when he emotes), especially in his powerful Golden Super Mode, no doubt here to make life hectic for Goku and crew.
- The worst of the 3 is by far Cell, the evil bio-Android from the Bad Future who also joins the game alongside Lord Frieza, and he's as ever bit as scary as he was back in Dragon Ball Z, with him starting off in his Imperfect Form, the very same form that ate poor Android 17 in canon. He also has an alt based on his Perfect Form which implies he ate Androids 17 and 18 completely off-screen.
- Making matters worse, Androids 17 and 18 would join the game 2 seasons later, which sets off even more nightmarish implications that Cell hasn't eaten them yet (or ate the evil Future versions of the Androids), even in the virtual world, they're not safe from him and the Twins have to relive the pain and fear of Cell chasing and eating them. Thankfully there are a ton of heroes (the Z Fighters, the DC and Marvel Heroes) who have the Androids' backs just in case Cell tries to pull the same stunt like he did back in the Cell Saga.
- Chapter 4, Season 1 had Deku's Smash as a weapon ingame. It may have been thrilling to see in the anime, but the loud and absolutely bloodcurdling howl it let out whenever used quickly became one of the most dreaded sounds in the game, as unless you were using it, it was your only warning that someone's about to be on the receiving end of a colossal explosion that's very hard to dodge and very, very hard to block.
- Chapter 5, Season 4 is named Absolute Doom, and for good reason: Doctor Doom has returned to Reality Zero and absorbed all the power in Pandora's Box, giving him the power to strike down the greatest heroes and villains of Earth-616. Looking through his castle reveals trophies of progressively more and more concerning victories of his: the Horn of Proteus, Magneto's cracked helmet, the Silver Surfer's board, Moon-Knight's emblem, the Eye of Agamotto, Ultron's head, and even Thanos's helmet. And if you look into the ocean, you'll see the colossal remains of Galactus. The Worf Effect doesn't even begin to cover it.
- Most disturbing of all, however, is the fate of the Fantastic Four: Mr. Fantastic has been tied into a pulsating blue ball and put in a display case, The Thing's been shattered and put back together as Doom's own personal throne, the Human Torch's flaming heart has been ripped out and placed on a torch, and all we see of the Invisible Girl is a seemingly empty chair in a display case labeled "Sue".
- If you try to break Mr. Fantastic out of the case, he will disappear completely. There’s nothing you can do to help him. It’s possible that if you break the case, you killed him. But it might be considered a Mercy Kill.

- The very fact that Chapter 6 Season 1 is set to have the legendary Alpha Titan and the King of the Monsters himself Godzilla make landfall on the island based on his recent MonsterVerse film (in his Evolved state), while normally considered a Big Good, in this he will be given a slight case of Adaptational Villainy as a powerful Super Boss and he's absolutely terrifying, showing that this is not the same heroic figure from the MonsterVerse.
- However as the nature of him joining the game, players can find a Hollow Earth portal that when entered into, turns the players into Godzilla himself, meaning he's not a villain, but rather he's controlled by us loopers to eliminate others. Even worse even we have beloved fictional characters such as the heroic Superman (and members of the Justice League), Iron Man (and members of the Avengers), the Incredibles, the Gaang and even the Z Fighters and the Android Twins can become the mighty King of the Monsters themselves going against their sworn duty as protectors and saviors (and in 17's case, a heroic ranger who can now return the land to its proper state).
- Sometimes before players jump off the Battle Bus, there's a small chance for Kong to spawn on the map to greet players by beating his chest and roaring for their arrival before disappearing into the rift, which can catch a lot of players (especially young kids) off guard, a sign that Godzilla is coming in the match.
- Chapter 6 Mini Season 1 has ultimately confirmed the worst fears since Order 66 was activated back in the 2019 Star Wars live event; The Dreaded Big Bad of the entire franchise in Emperor Palpatine (aka, Darth Sidious) has finally arrived back on the island to finish what he started back in 2019; to completely take over the island in the name of the Empire, and he has a new apprentice to boot, the normally comical Butt-Monkey Jar Jar Binks has turned to the Dark Side to help with his conquest as Darth Jar Jar. Darth Jar Jar is absolutely terrifying with him having access to Force Lightning which is confirmed to be a new weapon that both heroes and villains can use. Palpatine has also managed to revive General Grievous to serve him once more. Making matters worse, the Death Star is also part of the Emperor's ultimatum if he can't take over the island: outright destroy it which will doom not just the galaxy but all of reality, it gets worse as leading up to the season, the Death Star gets closer and closer to the island ominously waiting for the heroes and as the trailer shows it'll be able to target human individuals, seen when poor Fishstick is the one being targeted.
- Chapter 6 Season 4 introduced the Onimorphs, which are immensely destructive bugs that come from the Spirit Realm. While seeing the ruins of the OXR bases that were destroyed by them was already scary, the destruction of Utopia City, making it into Dystopia City, was much more impactful, due to the fact that we got to see the shining, eco-friendly city before it became a dilapidated bug nest in a city. Made a thousand times worse by the fact that the OXR H.Q. is right next to the major mass of the Swarm itself, meaning that they're just a little bit away from being attacked themselves.
- The collaboration with Kill Bill for Chapter 7, Season 1 brings with it the short, "Yuki's Revenge", focused on a cut character from the original film restored as an Ax-Crazy schoolgirl assassin out for Revenge due to the Bride killing her sister Gogo. There's a reason why this short is referred to with the "After Dark" label. Not only is the ensuing firefight between the two particularly brutal by Fortnite standards, but Yuki is overdosing herself something fierce on Slurp Juice which may as well be cocaine; she not only takes several shots head-on while flipping into a Roaring Rampage of Revenge, but is only inches away from stabbing the Bride in the eye before the overdose and several fatal wounds outright kill Yuki. Only by having the traditional rezz damage and elimination effects for Bloodless Carnage does this not dip into full on M-rated stuff, as both the Bride and Yuki are otherwise shot on-screen and reacting very much like they're suffering genuine wounds.
- For better or worse, it also doesn't help that the short is effectively almost one-to-one with the original scripts intended for the sequence, swear words included, so rather than Fortnite stepping into Kill Bill territory, it's a full-blown Kill Bill fight built inside of Fortnite, creating a massively jarring tonal shift for those not familiar with the source material.
- Chapter 7, Season 2's "Rivals" ends with big showdown in "Shattered": the Foundation versus the Ice King, mano a mano, beating the everliving crap out of each other in a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.. and thanks to the player community scores, Ice King freezes over the Foundation, turning him into a Human Popsicle on-screen, which is bad enough. Then the Dark Voyager proceeded to eliminate the Ice King in turn so that he could proceed to attack the reformed Zero Point for reasons unknown, which could've destroyed all of reality as we know it. When Jones tries to hold a Last Stand with but a pistol his name against the Voyager, he calls for assistance from the Visitor - and then gets shot In the Back, as the Visitor's helmet is removed to reveal Geno, who the Voyager proceeds to refer to as master. With this, they kick Jones off a cliff to die, and while the Looper caused a major setback in stopping their full destabilization of the Zero Point, the remaining Seven and Hope are completely in the dark about who they're really working with.
- Even worse, there's a hidden space in the following season "Runners", where Jones is alive.. stuck in a Healing Vat with the de-rezz cubes still leaving his gunshot wound. The heroes have kept him alive, but unlike most cases in Fortnite where a character just gets immediately killed off or can return as an Alternate Self, our Jonesy is fatally wounded and visibly bleeding, a genuinely serious wound left on him that is being treated relatively realistically. And Geno gets to stand among the group absolutely oblivious him being the cause.
- Extra emphasis has to go to Geno's seamless infiltration. The season gameplay trailer starts with Geno narrating about the Zero Point and the Sprites needing to be contained, aligning various people to his side, and it's the usual Fortnite fun Battle Royale antics as expected. Then in a part that was missing from the initial reveal trailers, post-event there's one final tidbit of the 'Visitor' staring into the camera as all the music and sound fade out and his helmet disappears to reveal his real face once more, staring at everyone working to his ends with none the wiser. The perspective makes it look like he's starting at us, knowing we know his facade.. and we can't do anything about it.
