In 1969, a Soul/Funk group called The Winstons had a hit with a song called "Color Him Father". On the B-side of the single was a song called "Amen, Brother", an Instrumental version of the Gospel Music standard "Amen". It contained within it a 5-second drum solo. This drum break, called the amen break,
has the distinction of being the single most sampled piece of music in modern history; WhoSampled.com lists nearly 5,000 recordings that have used the Break. Every genre, from Hip-Hop, to Techno, to Rock has used it at one time or another. It is one of the most ubiquitous pieces of music in modern pop culture. Whole genres of music owe their very existence to it. The genre(s) of Jungle and/or Drum-n-Bassnote are pretty much built entirely around the creative use of the Amen Break; sometimes chopping the sample into tiny pieces and building completely new beats out of pieces.

This is largely down to Tomoya Ohtani. When questioned about it on his Facebook profile, he attributed it to being his favorite beats sample. - Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door: "Battle - Bowser, the Koopa King" features the break.
- PaRappa the Rapper: In the "All Masters' Rap" AKA the Bathroom Rap, the Amen Break fades in at the end of each teacher's verse, signifying that PaRappa is about to beat them (except for Cheap Cheap's verse, which ends the song; if you're not on GOOD rank when that verse ends, you'll fail).

- Boom'N'Breaks, one of the monsters on YouTuber RaddRam's fanmade My Singing Monsters island Mergical Fuseum, uses the Amen Break as its sound.
Western Animation
- Futurama: Sampled in the original version of the theme song as used in the original Fox run. The theme was altered in Bender's Big Score and onwards, replacing the Amen break with an original drum loop.
