In the Land of Unlearned Lessons (Russian: В стране невыученных уроков) is a fairytale series by Lia Geraskina. The first book was published in 1965, the second, In the Land of Unlearned Lessons-2, or Return to the Land of Unlearned Lessons, in 2000, and the third, The Third Journey to the Land of Unlearned Lessons, in 2001.

In the first book, slacker Vitya Perestukin receives five twos (D-equivalents) in a day, and his schoolbooks decides that it's time to remedy the situation. They send him (his loyal cat Kuzya comes along) to the Land of Unlearned Lessons, where every single mistake he's made becomes true (for example, his failure to remember about the water cycle results in a catastrophic drought).

In the second book, Vitya helps his friends in the same manner, and in the third one, his classmate Katya, previously a model student, gets too distracted after joining the choir and finds herself in need of a journey to the Unlearned Lessons too.

The first book received an animated adaptation, directed by Yuri Prytkov, in 1969.

Tropes featured in the books:

• Anachronism Stew: Invoked. At the history lesson, Vitya said that Ivan the Terrible fought with Napoléon Bonaparte. As a result, in the Land of Unlearned Lessons he lands into Ivan the Terrible's court which is a perfect mishmash of the 16th, the 19th, and the 20th centuries (with the oprichniks using telephones and preparing to fight Bonaparte). Like with everything else in the Land, it lasts until Vitya remembers the correct year of Napoleon's Russian campaign.
• Anthropomorphic Personification: Vitya and Kuzya encounter Drought, a cackling old hag who praises Vitya for not remembering about the water cycle and causing a devastating drought across the region.
• Ascended to Carnivorism: Vitya says that cows are carnivorous. It results in a hungry cow chasing him and his cat in the Land of Unlearned Lessons until Vitya remembers the correct term for "herbivorous".
• Be Careful What You Say: Any answer you give at school becomes the truth in the Land of Unlearned Lessons. For example, when Vitya figures out that two children walking from Point A and Point B respectively are going to meet in sixty years (the correct answer being two hours), the children have to walk for sixty years.
• Beautiful Singing Voice: Katya is revealed to have an absolutely gorgeous singing voice, which leads her to think she doesn't need any further education (while she's still just starting middle school).
• Books That Bite: In a benevolent (though harsh) version of the trope, Vitya's schoolbooks come alive and decide to help him get better.
• Gotta Pass the Class: The whole series is about children learning to appreciate and put an effort into schoolwork, which leads to their grades getting better.
• Misplaced Wildlife: Thanks to one of Vitya's more egregious mistakes, a polar bear ends up in the temperate climate and then in an oasis of tropical heat, and a monkey ends up on a snowy mountain. It lasts until Vitya correctly says which of them is supposed to go where.
• Took a Level in Badass: A journey across the Land of Unlearned Lessons is certain to turn any slacker into a dedicated student.
• Transflormation: When Vitya manages to recall how the water cycle works, the Anthropomorphic Personification of Drought turns into an old tree.
