Rainbow Magic: Goldie the Sunshine Fairy (Literature)

Goldie the Sunshine Fairy is the 11th book in the Rainbow Magic series, and the 4th in the Weather Fairies subseries. It was released on May 6th, 2004.

While tenting, the girls spot a goblin nearby with Goldie's sunshine feather. To get it away from him, they'll need some help from Kirsty's dad.

Tropes:

  • All There in the Manual: Supplementary material mentions that Goldie's Best Friend is Alice the Tennis Fairy.
  • Artistic License – Physics: In real life, if the sun was indeed shining hot enough that corn is popping right off the cob, the girls would both be dead from heat exhaustion.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Kirsty's dad wears sunglasses because of how bright the sun is. Later, the girls use those sunglasses to trick the goblin into giving up the feather. They place them on his head while he's sleeping, and when he wakes up, he thinks the feather has stopped working because it's gotten "dark" out.
  • Cool Shades: Kirsty's dad wears a comically large pair of shades in this story. The "cool" aspect comes in when they become a Chekhov's Gun and the girls' ticket to retrieving Goldie's lost feather.
  • Popcorn on the Cob: The magic-induced heatwave causes the corn on a nearby farm to pop right off the cobs.
  • The Power of the Sun: Goldie's magic feather makes the sun shine. When it's in the wrong hands, it causes a heatwave.
  • Race Lift: American reprints published in 2024 change Goldie's tan skin to a deeper brown.
