Season 1
Lie Detector
- The Lie Detector episode of Game Changer
is bloody hilarious. Each contestant answers horrifically embarrassing questions that are checked by a lie detector (secretly controlled by their significant others).- When Brennan tries to worm his way out of a question with rules lawyering and Sam calls him out on it:Brennan: YOU ARE NOT GOD, THE MACHINE IS!
- When Jess admits that she has had multiple threeways, Izzy and Alexis (Brennan and Tao's girlfriends) gives Kait, Jess' fiancé, the side-eye.
- Once the secret is revealed:Brennan: I trust my partner implicitly!
Izzy: And you shouldn't! - Jess once or twice wonders if the machine is flirting with her when it answers certain random prompts correct. Come the reveal of Kait being behind Jess's truth-or-false verifying and yes, Kait may have been flirting with her using the machine.
- When Brennan tries to worm his way out of a question with rules lawyering and Sam calls him out on it:
Make Some Noise
- For the minigame, all three contestants are given a beautiful vase of flowers, then asked to imitate the sound of glass shattering. Josh starts by making a convincing glass shatter sound with his mouth. It's when Zac goes 2nd that the true intention of the minigame is shown. With a smirk, he lifts up the vase while constantly looking at Sam and then back at the podium (expecting him to tell Zac to stop what he's about to do) before shattering the vase on his podium. Brennan then finishes the rule of three and proceeds to throw the vase at the floor to break it. When Sam announces that only Brennan and Zac get a point, Josh screams "God dammit!" and breaks his vase on his podium in rage.
Whodunnit
- When the lights go out and come back on to reveal Josh's "corpse," Sam dramatically declares that there has been a murder.
- Grant and Rekha wonder who would go to the trouble of murdering Josh, since "he's trash." Cut to Josh literally corpsing and not quite managing to hold back a chuckle.
- The running gag of the script supervisor pretentiously emphasizing the second half of the word "script."
- Nearly all of the suspects are played by crew members, but since — as Sam admits — their scripts came in last-minute before filming, they all carry their scripts and have to check them.
- One of the clues they find is an intense conversation between the production designer and the producer, where she says she could kill him for sacrificing the integrity of her art to save money. Rekha and Grant's takeaway is that the two have 'mad chemistry' and need to hook up.
- When Grant is suddenly implicated, Rekha immediately suspects him. He tries to avoid suspicion by claiming that it would require her being extremely narcissistic to believe the entire crew is conspiring to "Truman Show" her.
- Grant's monologue at the end:Grant: I was asked to play a dead body, and I was supposed to lay on the floor for twenty minutes, when I could have been standing, doing meta jokes the whole time! No! I went to Tisch! The fucking School of the Arts! [...] I! Was born to play the villain! I am the love child between The Grinch and Jared Kushner. I am the greatest actor Hollywood, California has ever seen. All right. You want to see me play a dead body? (to Rekha) And you? (to the camera) And you?! You'll get it. I had my monologue. I'm ready. "There are no small parts...! Only! SMALL ACTORS!!!" (stabs himself in the heart repeatedly with the prop knife) ...Well, I got the retractable one.
- Doubles as Hypocritical Humor once you realize that Grant quoting Stanislavski at the end is completely at odds with him committing murder because he didn't want to play the small part of the corpse.
- Sam reveals that Rekha's prize is a fancy chef's knife, and that the crew were so worried it would be mistaken for one of the prop knives they insisted the box be sealed prior to filming.
Season 2
Round 4
- During the second minigame, Sam brings in a one year-old girl named Haliyah (with her mother of course), and tells the players to make the sound of a baby laughing. Josh brags that this will be easy because he has nine nieces, and starts making silly faces at Haliyah... who immediately bursts into tears.
- She doesn't laugh at Brennan or Zac's attempts either. Josh just grouses that at least they didn't make a baby cry on TV.
Do I Hear $1?
- The second prompt, "Make Out Passionately With Your Hand For 10 Seconds", has Grant drop the first bid at $1000, followed by Raph dropping it to $100, followed by Ally dropping it to $5.
- Grant ends up getting the prompt for $4, but insists on roleplaying himself picking up his own hand at the bar first. He then gets far too into it, even going down to the wrist, before starting to explain where all of his own erogenous zones are.Sam: I wish I had charged more for this.
- Grant ends up getting the prompt for $4, but insists on roleplaying himself picking up his own hand at the bar first. He then gets far too into it, even going down to the wrist, before starting to explain where all of his own erogenous zones are.
- When the prompt "Eat A Post-It Note" comes up, Ally casually remarks that they've accidentally eaten a post-it before because it was on their sandwich.
- Round 3 has the contestants suggest crazy things to do with an electric razor. After Ally suggests shaving their head, Grant jumps in and declares that for $4000, he'll shave off some of his pubes and eat them. Sam just sits down on the ground and puts his head in his hands for a minute.
- When Sam goes to negotiate with Ally, Grant tries to get him to reconsider by telling him that whenever Ally does something to their hair for money, they actually look cool.
- When there's only $3000 left and the contestants are asked to do something with live crickets, Grant suggests waving at the crickets and tells Ally and Raph he'll split the pot with them if they don't challenge him. Sam asks if they're sure, and all three nod... At which point Sam pulls up a graphic congratulating the players for unionizing and ends the episode.
A Sponsored Episode
- This episode involves Trapp, Rekha, and Grant trying to sell Sam some weird product or service. A Running Gag of the episode is all of them, starting with Grant, begin the pitch by asking Sam where he's from (Cambridge, Massachusetts, if you're wondering).
- Grant tries to sell Sam a strobe reading lamp by suggesting it'd make books more like movies.Grant: Do you remember being a little boy? Walking into the Copley Square Theatre. The air conditioning just right. The chill in the air. A bucket of fragrant popcorn right on your lap.
Sam: (nodding) Mhm.
Grant: (Corpsing) Well now, what if you didn't have any of that? - During the first mini-game, Sam presents a logo for the show that looks like the Pringles logo but with Sam's glasses and beard in addition to the mustache. Rekha and Grant immediately start commenting on how hot it looks and start calling Sam "Daddy Pringles". Sam, referring to the incident in "Whodunnit":
- Trapp does a bang-up job of selling a keyboard made up of only P's, when Rekha asks a followup question:Rekha: If I wanted to write a simple e-mail on this keyboard...what would that look like?
Trapp: *imitating a rapid-fire machine gun* P-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p... (everyone cracks up) - Trapp also sells the gang on lemon parmesan, which has an entire plate of lemon halves covered in melted parmesan cheese. After presenting it as a time saving measure in making Italian food, Sam asks Grant if he has any follow-up questions.Grant: Would you take a bite?
Trapp: Grant, this is a fabulous product. Of course I will take a bite of this. (takes GIGANTIC bite. Everyone dances, screams, and cringes in horror) Now that... that's good eatin'.Sam: (cringing) Rekha, you have a follow-up question if you want it...
Rekha: (huge grin) Would you take another bite? - Rekha gets a paintbrush made with pubic hair. After the pitch, Grant asks where the pubes are from.Rekha: Home grown, baby.
[Everyone bursts out laughing]
Rekha: Can tell by the colour. [winks] - Grant gets strawberry flavoured toilet paper, and launches into a pitch involving detailed descriptions of giving analingus. As the pitch goes on, Sam gets out from behind his podium, sits down on the ground, and plugs his ears.
- At the end of the pitch, Sam admits that he had his ears closed for much of it, but gives Grant three points on the grounds that he's never seen the crew laugh so much.
Yes or No?
- Sam only asks the contestants the titular question over and over. Episode winners are determined by whoever can identify the secret rule governing how correct answers are determined. Once Brennan finally figures it out after the other two have already "won", he unleashes a truly astounding monologue
:Brennan: I know what’s going on here. I know what’s going on here. Okay? I do.
Sam: Do you?
Brennan: And if you want me to wander backstage to spill the beans...
Sam: I mean, there's really no need for us to do that, because...
Brennan: It's the final question, right?
Sam: ...these other two are in the loop, so... they're in the loop.
Zac: Has he found out-?
Brennan: I’m the only one out of the loop, it would seem... and if we check my point total here— I don’t NEED to walk to the front, because I know what it is. It’s a big ol’ GOOSE EGG, GANG. It’s a FAT ZERO. HELLO!! A little LATE ADDITION to the numerical symbol chart brought to us from our friends in Arabia, a little bit of trivia that I happen to know about the history of numbers. That kind of little tidbit would serve me well in most trivia games, unless it had been RIGGED FROM THE BEGINNING!
Zac: Whoa, dude.
Sam: (in a nonchalant calm-down pose) Whoa, dude!
Zac: Chill out-
Brennan: OH!
Sam: Whoa, dude!
Brennan: I’ve only just BEGUN to pull the thread on this sweater, friends. You would THINK in a game where there are only TWO possible correct choices, that one would STUMBLE INTO the right answer every so often, wouldn’t you? In fact, the probability of NEVER guessing right in the full game is a STATISTICAL WONDER, and yet, HERE WE ARE. Introduced at the top of the game as a champion, what do you think that means? Icarus, flying too close to the sun. But it seems Daedalus, our little master crafter over here, had some wax wings of his own, didn’t he? Wanted to see his son fall. Fall from the sky. Oh, how CLOSE TO THE SUN he flew! Well I’m NOT HAVING IT. I solved your labyrinth, puzzle master! The minotaur‘s escaped and you’re gonna get the horns, buddy!
Ally: (actually impressed) Okay, are we-
Zac: Can I tell you what I think the thing is?
Ally: Did we think we were in on it, but actually Brennan is the only one in on it and that was rehearsed?
Sam: (laughing) That was an incredible monologue. Brennan, what is the rule of the game?
Zac: Can we all say it?
Brennan: I! CANNOT! WIN!
Sam: That is correct, Brennan! You cannot win the game!
Brennan: AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!- Right after this, Brennan is declared the winner.Ally: Did we all get crowns?
Sam: Uh, we only got two.
Brennan: GODDAMNIT!
- Right after this, Brennan is declared the winner.
Season 3
Tell Us About Yourself
- Jess’s first guess is “I like to skateboard (because it’s cool)”. At the end of the game, it’s revealed that the Scorekeeper (the person these guesses actually apply to) is Tony Hawk. On a second viewing, it becomes apparent that Sam responded “Interesting choice Jess… I will give you the point” to deliberately mislead the players in hopes that they wouldn’t guess who the Scorekeeper is immediately. It seems to work, as it takes an incredibly long time for the players to guess the Scorekeeper’s identity.
The Substitute
- One of Game Changer's quarantine episodes is another installment in the "Make Some Noise" sound impressions game. Brennan's final prompt is "Predictive Text Brennan", which he absolutely nails, to everyone's delight.Brennan: Hey, gang! Absolutely to a hundred percent happy to be here! Number one thing is that everyone to take care of yourself. Predictably, you might find another time, and the philosophy camp counselor this time around we go back, and I'M TELLING YOU RIGHT NOW I WON'T STAND FOR IT! Gang, you gotta be drinking water. I have large Irish Catholic family. Gandalf the White, Gandalf the Grey. We all have a responsibility to examine our place in the world. Thank you so much for watching, we super duper appreciate it. Happy hippie hokey time time time, IN-CREDIBLE!
Season 4
Sam Says
- All three players are given the prompt "Say Something We'll Have to Bleep". After stumbling (they just say various cuss words, which the show is not legally required to censor), all three get a second chance to redeem themselves.
- Brennan starts singing "Hey Jude". A crawl scrolls across the bottom of the screen explaining that their legal team told them to bleep it out.
- Izzy says "Something we'll have to bleep."Sam: *whispering* Holy shit.
Izzy: Bitch. - Lou looks into the camera and says the following:Lou: Uh, I am paid by CollegeHumor, and I'd just like to come out as, like, someone who's paid by the company and say that (censored, but his lips clearly say O. J. Simpson) is innocent. And that is the expressed opinion of formerly CollegeHumor, now Dropout, the show Game Changer. (censored) is innocent-
Izzy: Didn't do it!
(cut to Sam pressing his face up against the wall in shock)
Lou: -whoever killed those people is still out there. This is the opinion of the company that puts this show on and produces it.
Izzy: We know that for a fact.
Lou: It's in company emails that I will happily pull up on my phone.
Sam: ...My excitement has flipped to fear, for this episode. - Afterwards, Sam tries to make a disclaimer.Sam: I do wanna say, because of what just happened-
Izzy: That this episode can't air.
Brennan: That you know for a fact O.J. did it.
- After issuing the command "Don't flinch" twice, following that up first by a scream, then an air horn, Izzy asks to take it to get revenge, which Sam accepts. Izzy uses it almost immediately.
- Then, later in the episode, Sam asks everyone to write down their predictions for the episode. As Sam goes to collect everyones, Brennan hands his over... and blasts the air horn in his other hand. Which at the end of the episode turns out to have been his prediction.
- Izzy is asked to come up with a visual effect. Her automatic answer is 'buttholes'. When he's asked, Brennan also says buttholes, but different buttholes. Lou, on the other hand, asks for an Overly Long Gag, all of which happens onscreen:Lou: Ok, fantastic. So we're cutting in to like Steven Soderbergh, Ocean's Eleven, kinda like—things are starting to split up. So you got my box that's slowly drifting over into the left corner. There's another box of me just snapping, right? And that's appearing down left here, that's me snapping, you can kinda repeat that. So there's me talking, then we're tight in on my points, cause that's what the heist is about. How are we gonna get these points back? Then, uh, appearing in like a new corner, is like one of those panel eighths. Me snapping, my points and me talking have all shifted to the left. Now you've got a big, like the other half of the screen in the Soderbergh-Ocean's Eleven-type thing just becomes a fuckin' raw butthole, right? And so you've got me, but then this one becomes a butthole, then the one that was my points becomes a butthole, then the one that's me talking, that's the only one left, but the rest of the screen and all the different little Steven Soderbergh things are buttholes.
- When given the command, "Sam says upset a producer":
- Lou just gives the biggest Grinch-style grin as he looks around the set, prompting Sam to append a hasty "Sam says please don't break any of the expensive equipment!". So Lou just starts unscrewing the lightbulbs on the guest entrance to the set, and tosses a clipboard from some unfortunate PA offstage.
- Brennan's response is to calmly walk out from behind his podium into Sam's personal space and start coughing violently. (This episode was filmed during the COVID pandemic.)Brennan: (pointing to Sam) Now that was an audible gasp.
- Izzy's response is to borrow Brennan's phone and send a message to Dropout producer David Kerns, telling him that she recorded a video of Brennan saying that he hates his fans and loves making them angry because it makes him more money, and uploaded it along with a photo of his dick.
Like My Coffee
- "I like my lovers like I like my yard work."Grant: Green.
Sam: Meaning?
Grant: Inexperienced and virginal, Sam. - Grant throughout the episode takes a quantity over quality approach to the prompts, much to Sam's disgust and frequent confusion. It backfires on him when Sam brings in Grant's favorite porn star to assist with the "Dog Toy or Sex Toy" minigame.
- The prompt "Sex with me is like maple syrup on a hamburger" is so productive that the players cut off Sam's transition to the next prompt by just continuing to buzz in with more punchlines. The full list of punchlines:Grant: It's gonna taste sweet and just a little bloody.Jess: Sweet and a little fatty.Trapp: Sticky fucking meat!Grant: I want them all between the buns.Jess: Enjoyed by little freaks!Jess: On the menu at a crappy diner.Trapp: Nobody wants a taste.Grant: Everybody wants a taste!Jess: Some people want a taste!
Noise Boys (Make Some Noise part 4)
- Brennan is given the prompt "An Auctioneer Having An Existential Crisis", resulting in another monologue, which host Sam Reich compares to "a one-man show in a black box theater in New York City".Brennan: From Farmer Dan Patrick's lot, this bull would normally fetch $5000 on open market! Can I get 1500, 1500- (incomprehensible auctioneer patter) -not happy in my marriage, not happy in my marriage- (incomprehensible auctioneer patter) -where's my dad, dad come home, come home dad- (incomprehensible auctioneer patter) -front of the whole school, front of the whole class, everyone laughed at me- (incomprehensible auctioneer patter) -3500! 3500, going once... (voice cracks) going once... if I say... if I say "sold"... then we all go home... but if I never say sold, I stay in your mind's eye, and I don't disappear... (whispering desperately) ...going...going... (prolonged pause as Brennan chokes in despair)... sold.''
- Josh is given the prompt "The World's Largest Businessman". He proceeds to do a hilarious impression of a giant businessman (complete with mannerisms of actual people with acromegaly, like André the Giant).Giant Josh: Let me just open up my beefcase...note As you can see, without my services, you will have a bad time -
Everyone: (completely fucking loses it)
Giant Josh: —but...with my services, you will have a good time. - Zac gets "The Tooth Fairy Fucks Up The Whole Routine" and delivers.Zac: (vaguely Eastern European voice) Give me your teeth.
- Zac and Brennan receive "A Defendant Stupidly Interrupting His Lawyer's Closing Remarks", in which Zac gives Brennan time to own the stage and chew the scenery before popping in at the best (worst) time.Brennan: Ladies and gentlemen of the jury...over the past four days, you have seen State's prosecutor attempt to effectively bamboozle you with a series of hearsay arguments and loose speculative evidence placing my client near the scene of the crime during the time of the murder. This evidence does nothing to indicate motive or means in the horrific murder of Roger Bell. Ultimately it will be your decision to say "Does this man deserve a lifetime in a federal penitentiary based on specious, inconclusive evidence?" You are tasked to consider the evidence and whether it proves beyond a reasonable doubt whether my client is guilty. Is my client a perfect man? No.
Zac: I killed him, yeah. - In the final round, all three get "A Video Call With Shitty Wi-Fi" and nail it. Josh makes his voice cut out repeatedly with weird faces, Brennan disappears completely more than once, and Zac perfectly captures an audio glitch.Zac: Should we rescheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee—
Secret Samta 3
- For his guest intro, Sam warns people that they wouldn't want to touch Raphael Chestang's lucky charm, and he walks out holding up...his vibrator necklace from Game of Prizes.
- Throughout the episode, Raph's punishments include dressing up in a Sia costume (as seen above) and getting doused in coloured powder. Despite this, he wins quite a few good awards, and at one point looks into the camera wearing the costume and powder and goes "This is what winning looks like!"
- Sam remarks that the picture of him in a Santa costume standing next to Raph in a Sia costume out of context will look like a fever dream, which brings him no end of joy.
- Raph opens box number one, and everyone immediately gets sidetracked by how nice the boxes are. Sam tells them that the boxes are not a prize, but the players want to know if they can have the boxes after the show.
- Part of the game involves lying about what's on the cards, either to try to keep a good prize or lose a punishment. However, Tao is such an awful liar that Raph and Carolyn don't even humour the idea that he could be telling the truth.
The Official Cast Recording
The Official Cast Recording offers an absurdly ambitious proposal to performers Zach Reino, Jess McKenna, and Zeke Nicholson (and Scott Passarella on the keys) - improvise a musical, on the spot. The result is very funny, awesome, and sometimes even bizarrely heartwarming all at once.- Jess keeps forgetting the name of the town where the musical is set, Mountport. Zach and Zeke keep finding ways to make it work.Jess (singing as a townsperson): But when you live in Mountainport, you don't ask many questions / Like, to say this is impossible, throw out that suggestion!Zach (singing as a townsperson): Yes, the literal name is "Mountainport" / And that's what we're about! / But because we're very busy, very very busy, / We shorten it to Mount...port!(Later)Jess (singing as Alexa): And if they weren't ready in Prairieville, then Mounttown's for me-Zeke (as a townsperson with an absurdly deep voice): IT'S MOUNTPORT!Zach (as a townsperson): It's Mountport, you loser!Jess (as Alexa): Sorry!Zeke (as a townsperson with an absurdly deep voice): WHERE ARE YOU GOING??
- Jess' spunky baseball-playing heroine, Alexa, is slightly confused about how to win at baseball.Jess (singing as Alexa): And when I hit that home run off my own pitch / Everyone will see that this is a brand new sit...uation!
- Zeke plays the villain of the musical, Tina Johnson. Tina is extremely mean, but her evil plan - to prevent the arrival of the prophesised travelling baseball-playing girl who is destined to someday defeat her, by building a ramshackle tower so tall that it overshadows the local baseball field and makes play impossible - is perhaps lacking.Zeke (as Tina): You, girl, what's your favourite sport?Jess (as Alexa): Oh, baseball, of course.Zeke (as Tina, to herself): Could it be? Could she be the one? (To Alexa) I have a second question for you. Pop quiz. A, light. B, dark. C, none of the above.Jess (as Alexa): Hmm. I think C, none of the above, because I don't have enough context. But if you're talking about baseball...light! I can't play in the dark. It's my one weakness.
- Zeke and Zach get confused about which one of them is supposed to be playing the minor role of a busker and both start talking over each other. This turns into a running bit where they play rival buskers on the same corner, and Busker #1 even ends up getting his own song.Zach (as Busker #1): Take my guitar.Zeke (as Busker #2, awed): Take your guitar?Zach (as Busker #1): Play it well. I quit. (Unexpectedly singing) I'm going to business school / Because business is coo-oool-Jess (out-of-character): This is compelling.Zach (out-of-character): Thanks!
- The cast collectively establish that the coastal town of Mountport has a train which departs for Palm Springs as its only stop, then waits there for a week (so the baseball team can complete a week of Palm Springs spring training), then comes back.
- The ending, where Mean Tina very abruptly turns over a new leaf and decides to become a train conductor, is both heartwarming and hilarious.Zeke (as Tina): Wow. So I could be...nice Tina!Zach (as Newsie): Sure!Zeke (as Tina): Cool Tina!Jess (as Alexa): Yeah!Zeke (as Tina): Sexy Tina!Zach (as Newsie): OK!Jess (singing supportively): Sexy Tina!Zeke (singing as Tina): The train conductress!Jess and Zach (singing supportively): SEXY TINA, TRAIN CONDUCTRESS!
- For the final song, Jess comes up with the moral of the story - which is thematically fitting but also a complete mouthful for her to deliver.Jess (as Alexa): Here's what I know for sure! (singing) No home run is worth it if you can't run home to a home you love-(Sam cracks up)Zeke: That's true!Zach: Say that one again!
Don't Cry
- "Don't Cry" is mostly just heartwarming moments as the cast comes out to support Jess Ross after a difficult year. Sam still insists on docking points from her after every "challenge" for crying.
- Trapp ends his letter to Jess by complaining that he couldn't say this at her wedding and had to say it on a game show behind a paywall.
- Lily ends her letter by saying she's not good at explaining her feelings, so she's just going to Venmo Jess $200.
- Rekha is declared the "winner" of the episode because she cried the least and openly admits she should probably do some introspection about that.
- At one point, Sam is about to announce the next challenge when Rekha interrupts him with 'Someone's gonna fuck us until we cry!' Everyone is else is taken off guard, to say the least.
Race To The Bottom
- This particular Game Samer gets out of hand quickly when Sam brings in his dog, Finnegan, and asks the players how much it will cost him to let the dog lick their mouths. Grant and Lily are entirely too eager out of Cuteness Proximity, leaving it up to Ally to attempt to force them to get their act together.Ally: Pretend you don't want to kiss the dog; know inside you want to kiss the dog. Say $200.Lily: Ok, ok. $200.Grant: I'll do it for $10.
- Grant ends up ''paying Sam $10'', and Finn won't even lick Grant because he's just taken a huge bite of onion in the previous bid. Lily does manage to get a free smooch from the adorable puppy though.
- The players attempt to unionize properly after the previous pathetic display, much like at the end of the previous instalment of this game, but this time Sam is prepared: he's got a scab to drive down prices.Lily: Who would be disgusting; a filthy rat enough-Katie Marovitch walks on stage.
- Lily ponders how one deals with scabs, and comes up with two solutions: make them join the union, or threaten their families. She ends up telling the others that they need to beat Katie up (obviously, they don't actually do it).
- Katie ends up with only $130 out of the available $10,000, despite having to: tweet her own name in quotes, get a temporary tattoo sleeve and post an Instagram photo of her at a maskless rave with the caption "Miami!". Scabbing fails to pay off for Katie and she joins the union.
- The climax of the episode; Sam gives Grant the rest of the safe's contents ($1,665) to have the entire crew slap him in the face. Grant, being Dropout's resident Lovable Sex Maniac, milks every second of it.
- One member of the art team comes up and says that this is payback for Grant calling the art team "weak". She then gives him a very light tap on the cheek and runs away. Then another member of the art team comes up and gives him a huge smack across the face.Grant: Sorry, did a fly just land on me?
- Lily and Ally also get in line, complaining that the crew isn't hitting Grant hard enough.Ally: I'M PIERRE DELECTO, AND I HATE THIS BITCH! (slap)
- One member of the art team comes up and says that this is payback for Grant calling the art team "weak". She then gives him a very light tap on the cheek and runs away. Then another member of the art team comes up and gives him a huge smack across the face.
Survivor (Parts 1 and 2)
- Sam divvies up the contestants into teams, decided by them pulling colored ties out of a bag. By sheer coincidence, the teams end up evenly split by race, with Ally, Grant and Brennan on the same team and Erika, Raph and Lou on the other team. There are many jokes.Grant: Alright guys, let's do this for white people!
- After shutting Grant up, the white team decides to name themselves "Team Friendship?". The other team?
Lou: Martin Luther King's Dream.
Erika: Wouldn't it be awful if we were to lose?- Brennan refers to his teammates in the Confession Cam as "a bunch of dumb crackers".
- When the two teams get merged together again, Lou dubs the new group "Martin Luther King's Second Dream".
- The first challenge is to make the other team laugh with funny sounds without laughing themselves. Most of the cast loses very quickly, leading to a back and forth between the remaining two contestants, Lou and Brennan. The winning sound?Lou: [wheedling voice] Please let me win.
- Brennan, eating lunch alone on the set, comments that this would make good B-roll footage while they're cutting between people discussing him, making him look sad and alone...in the middle of a sequence where people were discussing Brennan. He then comments about how they could cut to a wider shot, as they're taking a wider shot of him.
- The ending of Part 1 is both hilarious and awesome. It looks like Ally has convinced Grant to vote off Brennan in Survivor-like fashion of getting rid of the biggest competition... Only for Brennan to reveal he had an immunity idol in the most Brennan way possible.Brennan: Do you think I fuck around? ...You think I don't know my head's on a fuckin' spike the minute I let my guard down? I'm not a fucking fool, Sam!
- In Part 2, Sam inexplicably puts on a baseball cap that is made to match his pinstripe suit. Everyone immediately starts ragging on him for it.
- Brennan tries to make the others laugh by very earnestly reminding everyone that "someone got paid real American dollars to make Sam's dumb little pinstripe hat". This causes Erika to break so hard that she collapses into Brennan's chest, before falling to her knees and curling up on the floor while absolutely howling with laughter.
- Grant's efforts in the game consist of him telling a story about a science museum in his hometown where there was a suspended unicycle and an old timey street. Nobody cracks, but Sam finds it very amusing. Even funnier to fellow residents of Columbus, Ohio, who know immediately that Grant is accurately describing COSI.
Season 5
Sam Says 2
- "Sam Says...make this face."
- The second face shown is the cursing emoji. Jake's solution is to just repeatedly curse.
- Sam presents them with "Do face #2 again", but doesn't say Sam Says. Only Zac falls for it.Zac: (imitating Jake) Shit. (realizing what he did) Fuck!
- "Sam Says...say something that's never been said before."
- Zac is unable to keep from laughing while saying "Chicago...is flying up...into the sky! Wow." Then pulls an Izzy with "Something that's never been said before".
- Jake fully deadpans "And the Oscar goes to Jacob Wysocki"...which loses him a point because Sam didn't say "Sam Says".
- Ally just flexes their finger and makes a squeaking noise, leading to a very confused Sam face.Ally: (chuckling)...It's from Garden State. This has big Garden State energy for me.
Sam: In other words, Ally, you heard the prompt and specifically said something that HAS been said before—
Ally: (laughing) TAKE MY POINTS, YOU FUCKIN' TWEE BITCH!note Take my points away!
- "Sam Says...harsh the vibes."
- Jake makes EVERYONE uncomfortable with his response.Jake: We're staying long, everybody! We're staying long, okay? No OT. I don't wanna see anything wrapped up until I'm out of the building. I don't wanna see lenses in boxes, okay? I don't wanna see lights turned off. And as long as I'm here, you guys are working, okay? I take my job seriously and I want you guys to take your job as seriously as I take my job. Can I hear a "yes, sir"?
- Jake makes EVERYONE uncomfortable with his response.
Name A Number
- Izzy's entrance is pretending to get caught with Erika blowing her backstage and screaming. Erika's entrance is walking onset whilst pretending to wipe... something off her mouth.
- Becca tries to open pistachios by stomping on them. It doesn't work.
- Izzy wins "How many minutes will you stay after wrap?" by bidding 8 hours. The end tag of the episode is her eating the pizza she orders in a later task in the studio with the lights off.
- Said later task is "How many times, while ordering a pizza, will you say "I'm hungie"?" Izzy wins it with...16 times, and is forced to genuinely call a local pizza place and make an order. YouTube commenters agree that there is no way the guy on the other end of the line did not think she was completely baked out of her mind.Izzy: Let's get an extra large, because I'm hungie...I'm hungie, I'm hungie, I'm hungie -
Pizza place: Are you hungry?
Izzy: Yeah...yeah, I am hungie.- Izzy even gets in a final "I'm hungie" during the end tag before the camera irises out.

YouTube commenters agree that there is no way the guy on the other end of the line did not think she was completely baked out of her mind.
- Becca wins a bid where she must have 60 high-quality feet pics taken and published by a professional photographer. (Izzy immediately tells Sam that they're not allowed to publish the photos without giving Becca a cut.) She is completely unfazed by the task. The very charismatic photographer's entrance is a different story.Becca: This is what I would do in my spare time.
- Izzy wins $200 off Sam. Erika reacts by saying that they'll go to a strip club, Becca twerks in front of Izzy's podium and Izzy does her best to make it rain dollars (and spends much of the rest of the episode fanning herself with the money.)
- Becca's final challenge is to evade a professional tag player. At one point she shoves a chair into his path, and Erika runs interference by body-blocking him.
- The final score is a three-way tie. Naturally, the contestants all chant 'Three-way!' repeatedly.
Like My Coffee 2
- Just the fact that Sam brought in Grant's mother as a teammate. Poor Grant is absolutely flustered, especially since he'd earlier made a joke about how "My mom would love to watch" a Beatles cover-band... and him having sex.Debbie O'Brien: (Picking a category) "Orgies Are Like...", number four.Grant: No, let's not do any of that!
- And to up the ante of awkwardness, Sam later brings out "The Mommy Game", in which players take turns saying "Mommy" as sexily as possible. Grant's initial answer is to just do the most flat, deadpan "Mommy" possible.
As A Cucumber
- The whole point of the game is to remain as calm as possible no matter what Sam throws at them. Brennan, in contrast to past episodes, becomes so chilled out that he basically achieves Nirvana.
- Except when presented with a segment about bird facts where the answers to Brennan's questions are ridiculously detailed and specific while the other contestants' are incredibly easy (i.e. the correct answer for Brennan is "Siamese Fireback"note while the other contestant's is "pigeon"). Sam reverts their points at the end and admits that that segment was there just so he could see how Brennan would face losing, which he ends up doing anyway because despite his efforts to remain stoic, his heartrate spiked to 21 beats per minute over resting during the challenge.Brennan: A river of sweat is running down my back right now.
- Despite getting it the easiest of the three, being presented with a chicken twice, Katie somehow manages to almost screw up both times.
- Katie's BPM is so high from nervousness she's already at least 20 points higher than Brennan or Carolyn before the game even starts. Cue her final solo task where YouTuber Goombanna (posing as a professional knife-thrower) comes in and has her stand in front of a board note . Katie sails through 90% of the challenge once she has the blindfold on... but jumped 30 BPM above resting for a few seconds when the board was brought out and so fails the point.

The Bachelor
- Delaney Sears made a series of TikToks about wanting to be paired with Grant O’Brien. When Grant gives her the Chemistry Rose, he simply responds with “I’ve seen your TikToks”, resulting in Delaney covering her face with her hands obviously embarrassed.
- During the introductions, Grant finally meets someone who can match him in sheer horny energy.Zach: See, I actually already have a boyfriend. But, I have two holes for a reason. (private interview) Plenty of room for more dicks. Everyone grab a crevice!
Grant: I'm beginning to understand what this game is.
Zach: Hopefully later I'll be sliming you.
Grant: I... have that hope myself.- Grant is introduced to Phoenix Askani, who leads with three facts about herself.
Phoenix: I'm a former nanny, I write poetry, and sometimes I make anal porn.
(beat)
Grant: What kind of nanny? (Everyone in the studio loses it) - After the first speed date, Grant's Confession Cam has him opining that speed dating and dinner dates have the same problem in that the small talk questions are never interesting, particularly "Where are you from?" So of course as an example he asks Sam where he's from.Sam: How da—! *(Smash Cut to next shot)*
- During the dance speed date, every time the camera cuts over to Sam and Bradley, Sam can be seen dancing along even though he's not even involved in it.
- After the last speed-dating event, Grant's confession cam has him saying that the last two suitors were perfect for each other, and he kind of wanted to just go for a threesome.
- The episode ends in the most Grant way possible: he picks them both to go on the vacation with him.
Escape the Greenroom
- Sam meets with Brennan, Lou, and Siobhan in what is ostensibly a pre-game briefing, then steps out... and locks the door. Turns out the greenroom has been converted into an escape room, and things dissolve into chaos immediately, while Sam watches and heckles from the studio via a screen on the wall. Lou smashes a guitar against the wall within the first 10 seconds — and there's a clue inside. It only escalates from there.
- One of the clues is hidden in a smoke alarm that was only recently installed in the Game Changer green room. Sam admits to the players that the crew only discovered while setting up for this episode that the green room didn't have an actual smoke alarm.Lou: Oh, classic Sam Reich! Hey, if they burn to death, I'll just get some new ones!
- One of the clues that were hardest to find was supposedly in one of the coats that both Lou and Siobhan have gone through repeatedly, only for Brennan to find them on his first try. Lou actually throws one of the non-breakaway vases in the greenroom in frustration.
- Sam's amusement at Brennan locking in almost immediately, to which he responds:Brennan: YOU'RE NOT GETTING A FUCKING JOKE OUTTA ME TIL I'M OUTTA THIS ROOM!! YOU WANT BITS?! YOU LET ME OUTTA THE ROOM FOR BITS, MOTHERFUCKER!!
- The team need to drive a remote-controlled car in the parking lot from inside the room, but things go wrong when it topples over. This results in some very futile bargaining attempts with the cameraperson in the parking lot, begging her to right the vehicle. She declines to help, so once they've passed that part of the puzzle, Lou sticks his head out the window and yells "You are no help! No help at all! And you will be remembered!" His voice even echoes on the last part, with the subtitles reading (echoing like a magical oath).
- Later, Lou mentions that he cited Nuremberg during this conversation, alluding to the "Nuremberg defense", which was used to try and acquit Nazi officers by claiming they were "only following orders" and thus were not responsible for their actions—in other words, he compared that poor cameraperson to a Nazi.
- The group unlock the bathroom, only to discover Sam tied up, captured by his "evil great-grandfather". Naturally, they are far from concerned about getting him out of there and consider simply going to brunch.
- Once they've found the keys and are about to unlock the door, Brennan tells Sam that if he opens the door and finds more puzzles on the other side, Sam's taking a short flight down the stairs.
- Once they're finally trying to defuse the bomb, Lou explains the reference to the card trick like so:Lou: All the way back at the beginning of the game, before it all started, we all pulled a card and we thought it was a fun magic trick, but actually, it was the first domino in a series of events that would lead us to fight each other, you, for me to cite Nuremberg and trying to make a camera-person feel bad.
- At the end of the game, Sam tells the contestants to take their podiums.Siobhan: Podiums?!
Lou: I'm sorry, we're not done?
Brennan: Yeah, now we're doing a fucking episode of "Sam Says". - Sam reveals the prize to the contestants: tickets to another escape room. Lou, Siobhan, and Brennan look genuinely about ready to murder him then and there.
- As the credits play, Sam dances around gleefully and poses while the contestants just stare into space with grim exhaustion. They then all start pouring water bottles on him as revenge.
Battle Royale: Old Guard vs New Blood
- The teams are not random this time, but are instead chosen by seating arrangement (actually by how long they've been a part of CollegeHumor/Dropout). However, this still leads to a pretty uneven race distribution, with Ify being the only person of color on the new guard team, while Adam and Ally are the only white participants on the old guard team.Izzy: Wow, good way to avoid the problem of last time!
Rekha: It's another race war.
Sam: (laughing) Why does this keep happening?!- Sam lets the teams pick their own team names. The old guard pick "Stop AAPI* Hate", under the logic that it would be a hate crime for the other team to mess with them. The new blood immediately name their team "Nuevo Stop AAPI Hate: The New Chapter".
- The sandwich-making contest truly peaks with Jacob's entry: the Pie Sandwich, which is an entire cake squished between two pies (in this case lemon-meringue and apple). He suggests that the best way to eat it is to "hamburger it". Even more hilariously, Jacob actually wins the contest with this.
- Vic's entry consists of cheese and chicken between two Oreo cookies, with some habanero hot sauce. Guest judge Claudia Sandoval handles it fairly well considering how obviously disgusting it is, while Vic is blinking back tears and getting increasingly flushed from eating something worth 250,000 Scovilles.
Claudia: My favorite part of this is that you have to taste it with me.
Vic: For my first time trying hot sauce, this was a nice way to start. - During the vote at the end of Episode 2, Izzy says she wishes they could play the music they actually play on Survivor when people are voting. Sam tries to vamp it and winds up with the Law and Order theme, Tao tries and does the theme from Shark Tank, and Jacob just sings 'Every Morning' by Sugar Ray.
- One of the challenges is basically a reskinned 'Secret Samta'. Izzy's box contains a thong with Sam's face on it.
- After the ASMR challenge, the contestants all speak and gesture silently to continue the running gag.
- When Sam says that he'll need a guest judge for the Talent Showdown, Jacob hopes it'll be Howie Mandel. It is, in fact, Howie Mandel.
- Izzy serenades Howie with an acapella rendition of Riskay's 'Smell Yo Dick'.

- Ify does a standup routine about how his father gave him a traditional Nigerian name even though his father's name is Chris, and when asked about it, his father claimed that everyone in Nigeria has a traditional name and he wanted to bring their culture to America. Ify then visited Nigeria and met his cousins Barbara, Michael and Tupac.
- After Ify's routine, Howie asks if he does stand-up and tells him that he's funny. Adam, who also did a stand-up routine, looks offended.
- Izzy serenades Howie with an acapella rendition of Riskay's 'Smell Yo Dick'.
- In the last episode, Sam decided to have the traditional messages from the players' families... except he didn't get the actual families, he got actors to play them. Izzy and Vic got the same actors. The players get really enthused and happy about the messages despite not knowing the actors.
- As Tao's turn is coming up, Lily angrily asks Sam if he got the same Asian guy for both of them. He didn't - Tao gets an entire family. The group then declares that the Asian kids were cuter than the white kids, and Tao decides he loves them even though they're obviously Japanese (Tao is Chinese-American).
- The final immunity challenge is erotic pottery, with players being judged both on performance and on final product. Highlights include: Vic smearing clay all over their hair and face which later has to be painstakingly cleaned out by hair and makeup, Ally breaking the pottery wheel and working it into their performance, Lily wetting the clay by spitting on it before stripping off everything except her leggings and apron, Izzy stripping before starting her performance and justifying it by saying that foreplay is important, then saving the fact that her clay broke apart by shaping the clumps into two breasts and motorboating them, and Jake leading guest judge Laganja Estranja in a prayer before knocking over the water bowl and spilling the dirty water all over her.Laganja: Everyone calm down, I'm not a real celebrity. Otherwise I'd be leaving and the jig would be up! [...] Nothing like a prayer and coming too soon.
- Jake's performance also differs from the others in that he tells the story of a very early romance, ending with a first kiss, after which the guy immediately comes in his pants. He also left his clay mostly intact, but drew a vagina on the top of it.Sam: I think that Jake tapped into something we all feel, which is the eroticism of early romance.
Jake: Do you remember how hard you used to get in middle school?
Laganja: Yeah, I haven't gotten hard since the HRT.
Ally: That's so crazy, I have the opposite problem. - Unlike everyone else, Vic eschews making a body part in favour of making what everyone noted was really quite a good bowl.
- Jake's performance also differs from the others in that he tells the story of a very early romance, ending with a first kiss, after which the guy immediately comes in his pants. He also left his clay mostly intact, but drew a vagina on the top of it.
- The 'Charm Sam's Mom' challenge, where players have two attempts to make Sam's real mother, Clare Dalton, smile.
- After Sam tells them that Clare is into acupuncture, Lily starts to ask her a genuine question about the theory behind it. Clare begins to explain classical Chinese medicine to her, before Lily (who is Chinese) interrupts her to quip "I'm Chinese, that is my medicine! The medicine that is Chinese? It is mine, I own all of it!"
- After it's revealed Clare is pro-psychedelics, Jacob asks her if she wants to do ketamine with him later.
- Jacob ignores the prompt about her being a former law professor and speaks from the heart about just how much Sam has helped him on both a professional and personal level, causing himself and Sam to tear up. As he concludes, Lily starts cackling because she realizes Vic has to follow this heartfelt sentimentality, and Vic looks like a deer in the headlights when she's told it's her turn.
- During the jury vote, Ally decides to act like jury members do on Survivor, which means rambling aimlessly in a way that only makes them look good. In the process, they invent another contestant named Tara who Ally gave coconuts to when she was hungry, and who later died and was buried on the island.
Season 6
Second Place
- The players are asked which of them can make the loudest sound on a gong. Oscar Montoya sets the tone by giving a respectable swing that shocks him by how loud it was.
- On Brennan's turn to take a swing at the gong, he eagerly and immediately asks for a broom handle and tape to make a longer lever with the hammer to make the loudest possible bang, only for Sam to completely undercut him when he eventually gives the points to Oscar.
- Per the BTS, Brennan's gong hit was apparently so loud the vibrations screwed up the LED lighting for the stage, prompting them to stop filming and forcing the crew to quickly reset. Also, the original gong they purchased for the shoot was unbeknownst to them fake and made no sound when struck, forcing them to rent an emergency backup gong at short notice.
- When it's Ally's turn, they just answer 'Brennan', pointing out that nobody said that the way to get points was to physically make the sound rather than just answering the question. Even Brennan briefly considers if he had misunderstood the game by playing it straight, Sam loves it, but tells them that they actually do have to hit the gong, so Ally just hedges their bets by ringing the gong as lightly as possible.
Brennan: [flatly] No, wait. - On Brennan's turn to take a swing at the gong, he eagerly and immediately asks for a broom handle and tape to make a longer lever with the hammer to make the loudest possible bang, only for Sam to completely undercut him when he eventually gives the points to Oscar.
- When the players realise that the goal is to get second place, Brennan glares at Sam like he's trying to kill him with his mind.Sam: (on Brennan seething) Brennan is digesting this badly!
Brennan: I don't know what I did, but at some point, Sam looked at me and went, "This guy, I need to rattle his belief in doing your best." But I'm gonna tell you right now, if the goal of the game is to be middle... I'm gonna lose so fucking hard, it's gonna blow your fucking mind. Goose egg number two, Yes or No ain't got shit on me, baby! Here we go! - The next challenge is a game of Keepie-Uppie with balloons, and Brennan, who is still aiming for number one despite it not earning him any points for coming in first, immediately sabotages his fellow players only for his balloon to be the first to fall. He is not happy to get this particular first place.Ally: So you were first out, so you keep getting first!
Oscar: Yes! Congrats!
Brennan: I'm so angry. [laughs] - For the first half of the game, Brennan protests the premise by still giving it his all even if it means he's not getting points, but he's clearly furious.Brennan: (straight to camera) Here's the deal. If you think the Roseate Spoonbill got to me, don't give a fuck about birds. What I do give a fuck about is trying your best everytime. And so long as I am on this stage, and drawing breath, you can good and goddamn believe that I'll be trying my best in every challenge.
Sam: Wow!
Brennan: I can set my own standard for what success looks like and it ALWAYS looks like trying your best. Kids? STAY IN SCHOOL! - Ally Beardsley, relishing the opportunity to needle Brennan over his competitiveness, goes full chaos gremlin several times.
- Just before the pie eating contest.
Oscar: Has anyone ever competed in a pie eating contest before?
Brennan: Yes. I lost and I broke one of my teeth.note
Ally: Yeah, kids - stay in school.- At the end, when Brennan 'wins', Ally calls him "the king of trying just hard enough" and "the bare minimum king".
- In one of the challenges, Oscar wins a second-edition 1968 three-volume box set of "The Lord of the Rings," leading to this epic trolling of Nerd King Brennan Lee Mulligan:Oscar: I have never read or seen Lord of the Rings and I'm going to start today.
Sam: This is an opportunity to expand your nerd-dom.
Oscar: I'm so excited.
Sam: I'm so happy for you.
Oscar: I'm legit excited. (turning to face Brennan directly) I'm not a fan and I've never read the books.
Brennan: [flatly] Oscar...
Oscar: Gandalf? What's that?
Ally: (howling with laughter and pointing at Brennan throughout the above) Oh my god, I'm obsessed.- Which comes back later during the Selfie round, as Brennan's is an Extreme Close-Up of his eyeball, leading Sam to question whether it actually qualifies as a "selfie".Sam: That might be Sauron.
Oscar: I don't know what that is.
- Which comes back later during the Selfie round, as Brennan's is an Extreme Close-Up of his eyeball, leading Sam to question whether it actually qualifies as a "selfie".
- “Who can do the best Donald Trump impersonation?” Ally gets the posture right but gets called out by Sam for using a catch phrase of Ed Sullivan, “someone most of our audience doesn’t even know existed.” Brennan goes full Cockney bad impressionist. Oscar busts out even worse Cockney, meaning Brennan takes second place.
- During the team task of dancing the second best, when it comes time for Oscar and Brennan to do their mid-dance, Brennan apologizes to Oscar then grabs his legs to hold him in place while screaming "DANCE IS A SIN!" to ensure this would be the worst dance, and the dance he did with Ally would be the middle. Oscar, for his part, does his best to keep dancing even while Brennan screams.
- The end of the episode: Ally and Oscar are tied, so Brennan is in second, which makes him the winner. Brennan looks furious, is goaded up onto a 2nd place podium and given a medal and trophy, and then goes into a monologue (the fourth he's given in this episode alone) about how there's absolutely nothing wrong with second place as long as you gave it your best effort while Ally, Sam and Oscar dance behind him. Brennan then tackles Sam, and Ally and Oscar join in.Brennan: [deadpan] What's happening is wrong.
- It's made funnier by the fact that this was a Disqualification-Induced Victory, as in the previous round the players had to wager points to sacrifice and Brennan purposefully put "negative infinity" after a long rant, ensuring he would neither lose nor gain points, equalising Ally and Oscar in the process.
- Because of how the game ends, with Ally and Oscar tied for first and Brennan behind them, it means that in a three person contest, Brennan managed to get last place, second place, and the winning place all at once.
- In the Behind the Scenes video for this episode, one of the deleted scenes has Sam assure Brennan that this game was not specifically created to troll him; Brennan's response shows he's clearly not convinced.
The Newlyweb Game
- The first question is about how many unread emails each person has in their inbox. Raph somehow has 11,871 unread emails.Raph: Guys, I'm just as shocked as you!
- Ify is shown a page from his girlfriend Emily's Notes app listing the months of the year with double digit numbers written next to them
.Sam: Ify, what on Earth do these numbers refer to?
Ify: That is the amount of times we've had sex each month.
(Emily nods smugly)
Alexis: Are you... kidding?
(Sam looks at the list in utter disbelief)
Ify: It was something we started when we started dating. (laughs)
Alexis: More than once a day?
Sam: 33 is more times than there are days in January! (points to April 2023) 37?!
Ify: Well, that's when the Writer's Strike happened.
Sam: [...] How are the two of you having this much sex, AND in an open relationship?!- When this was posted as a separate clip on YouTube, multiple comments pointed out that while it's clear that the episode was filmed in October of 2023 because that's the last listed month, they can also tell when this was filmed pretty much down to the day, because Ify and Emily have only had sex 7 times in October. Sam notes that everybody present feels a bit humbled.
- Sam notes when looking at Raph and Haley's UberEats history that you can order from all across the culinary world, like spending $101 on sushi, or $138 on sushi, or $161 on sushi, or $182 on sushi, or $176 on sushi...
- As an equalizer, Sam's wife Elaine Carroll comes onstage to read off some of Sam's Google search history and Twitter drafts. Sam has apparently Googled how old Stanley Tucci's wife is (because he wanted to "make sure the relationship is appropriate") and "how much money do late-night hosts make", and his Twitter drafts include a parody of the Muppet Babies theme song about nepo babies.
- For most of the game, the scores have been pretty much tied, a testament to how well the couples know each other. Then Sam introduces the final challenge... remembering each other's phone numbers. Only Alexis and Tao are able to remember the other's numbers, netting them two points and the win.
Sam Says 3
- "Sam says do something cringe":
- Vic walks up to Sam and starts begging him for one dollar in a frantic whisper. The cherry on top is the strangled "No!" that Vic responds with when Lou asks if they need some money.
- Jacob does an impression of Jar Jar Binks, saying that he just wanted to do an impression of his favorite guy.
- Lou attempts to do a cartwheel and falls over. He then tries to do another cartwheel and falls over again.
- One of the rules Sam introduces is that every time one of them swear, they have to put a point in the swear jar. After Jacob responds to a prompt by inflating his belly and telling the audience that they may cum, the contestants realize that "cum" did not lose him a point. For the rest of the game, they use "Cum" as a stand in for various swear words.Vic: You son of a cum, there's no way.
- Lou responds to the prompt 'Turn On A Fetishist' by doing a little strip show for one of his feet (with music provided by Jacob), only to be horrified when Sam tells him that he never said 'Sam says' first.Lou: I showed them my feet, Sam! I showed them my feet for nothing! CUM!
- Vic's contribution is to step on things they took from the craft table. Sam admits that he is not familiar with that fetish, to which Vic cheerily says that they know about it from their DMs.
- Sam uses the prompt 'Don't Look' twice. The first time, it's regarding an adorable pig in a little hat. The second time, it's regarding... a photo of Sam's father, former US Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, playing the flute in the nude. Everyone is utterly perplexed as to why Sam would even have that.
- In the Behind the Scenes episode, Sam also confesses that his family had that picture on the wall of the guest room of their home.
- The prompt "Don't Flinch" returns, this time in the form of a mannequin (made to look like Sam) falling from the studio ceiling into the Game Changer set.
- Lou loses a point for shouting "Fuck you, dude" at Sam. He's more than happy to lose the point for what, in his eyes, was an extremely justified reaction.Lou: Hey, let me tell you, the day I don't curse when a body falls from the sky? Call somebody!
- Lou loses a point for shouting "Fuck you, dude" at Sam. He's more than happy to lose the point for what, in his eyes, was an extremely justified reaction.
- One of the prompts is 'Rescue Me From The Paparazzi', complete with three photographers who get right up in Sam's personal space. Vic manages to throw one of them away from Sam, and Lou responds by pulling up his shirt so they get photos of his exposed chest and claiming that they can't print the photos because they're explicit.
- Immediately afterward, Sam tricks Lou and Jacob into losing a point with a fake sound check, prompting Lou to angrily declare that he can't tell what's real anymore and how many people on the crew are in on it.
Lou: WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!? And you! [gestures at someone behind the camera] YOU! I'm fuckin' done! Everyone behind these cameras is fuckin' over! I—if you're in a hole, dying, I won't be there!
Vic: I'll help ya. - There's a hilarious Call-Back to the "Propose a Visual Effect" prompt from the original "Sam Says", which Lou once again goes all in on. Better yet, it once again earns him the point.Lou: So here we are, we're back again. I'm snapping, alright? Ok, this is the core, right her. Now, of course we're gonna have a little Steven Soderbergh box that kinda flies off into the corner, that's of my points, because that's what it's always been about, baby, it's about gettin' those points back. Now we're gonna have a little quick Steven Soderbergh box on my foot, to remind everyone of all the things we've done to get up to this point, how much it's taken to get here. Baby, here goes the heist. So now we're gonna follow me, right? I'm on the move. I'm kinda the mastermind of this whole thing, so I'm kinda walkin' and talkin', explaining the heist to you guys, cause together we're all gonna use our talent to uh, make this happen. [to Jacob] You're gonna hack into the mainframe, [to Vic] you're the cat burglar who's gonna do the cat burglar stuff. I'm sittin' here. I've got the call. It's time. So then we're gonna walk back down. This is now—the main Steven Soderbergh box is me walking. We're seeing the points again, we're seeing the foot again, we're seeing Jacob on the computer, we're seeing Vic doing the thing, I'm gonna have a cup of coffee because that's just how cool I am. [whole effect stops for a second as he takes a sip] Delicious. Now it's all gonna crash into one and we're gonna do kind of like a transform effect and we're gonna see that this point total is no longer 42, but 43. And I love it when a plan comes together.
- Three words: Sam says "Party!" After an episode full of torturous prompts, Vic, Jacob, and Lou are led out into the Dropout parking lot, where there is a full party bus with many of their friends aboard. Drinks, laughs and good times are had, but Vic, Jacob, and Lou unfortunately failed to bother reading the sign inside the bus, which says:Notice
Stand at your own risk!
Party bus is not responsible for any accidents or injuries.
Remember: Sam says...
Don't curse
Call everyone "daddy"
Keep your new "look"
Freeze if you hear "freeze"- Between the three of them, a whopping total of 41 points was lost on the bus.
Lou: ...This is the rudest thing you've ever done to me! - One of the prompts is to do a memory exercise - every time Sam tells them to do something, the players have to do the prompt before it first. Sam then asks them to dedicate the episode to someone, but didn't say that the memory exercise was over. Lou is the only one who remembered that it was still in effect, leading him to wholeheartedly dedicate the episode to Vic and Jacob while Vic and Jacob realized they'd screwed up and were furious. Vic also lost an additional point because they didn't notice that Sam said "Salmon says" instead of "Sam says" when telling them to dedicate the episode to someone. To make it even more hilarious, that was after Vic said that they wouldn't fall for Sam's trap.
Pencils Down
- The early 2000s called, and they want tramp stamps. For Grant, Caldwell draws Tweety in front of an American flag with the words, "Hey, keep driving terrorist!"Sam: My god, Caldwell, I would love nothing more than for you to possibly justify this.
Caldwell: You said "early 2000s", that put me in a certain mindset.
Grant: In my head, it's the Twin Towers?
Sam: Somehow it's worse. - One of the challenges is to draw a new Pokémon on a trading card. Nathan's contribution is Sam as a Pokémon, and his attack is confusing people.
- Another challenge is drawing a mascot on a fictional cereal box. Nathan gets 'Puff Puff Pass', Kiana gets 'Granola But Sexy', and Caldwell gets 'Fuck The Roof Of Your Mouth'. The end results are, respectively: Nathan the Puff Puff Pass Sloth (with his catchphrase, "They're... uh... wait... what?"), a literal sexy granola bar (with her catchphrase, "Eat me~", but Kiana also comes up with "I'm a GILF*"), and Whalin' Wally, a whale with blood seeping from his mouth (with his catchphrase, "OW!").
- Caldwell even suggests that the commercials would involve the kids forcing Wally to eat the cereal instead of stealing it from him.
- One challenge is to do face-painting for some children; the kids want "a really cool tiger who is going through a divorce", "a stock trading floor", and "my face but smaller".
- The first two kids are both quite happy with Caldwell's and Kiana's efforts. When the third gets a look at Nathan's work and is asked what she thinks: "It's okay, but... yeah."
- During the 'Deface The Set' prompt, Caldwell draws a big shirt with 'I KILLED GOD' on it, except he accidentally spells it 'I KILED GOD' and doesn't notice until Sam points it out, and tries desperately to correct it.
Bingo
- The premise itself: at first it seems to be standard bingo, except the players have to perform challenges in order to win bingo balls. Then it turns out that the challenges are being written by a second group of players who are trying to get the first group to do specific things to fill out their bingo cards. And then we learn that a third group are watching the second group, directing the P.A. to get them to do specific things to fill out their bingo cards.
- Raph calls Brennan a "broggle-fucker", which perplexes everyone else until his attempt to explain makes it clear that he meant the Balrog. The inaccuracy infuriates Brennan. It also gets Rekha a stamp because there's a square for Raph confusing the cast.
- Sam finally found a challenge that Brennan almost didn't do, which was to go on Instagram Live and defend Elon Musk. He had to visibly wind himself up to do it, and he released a highly-predictable thinly-veiled Stealth Insult Character Filibuster instead that easily allowed Mike Trapp to mark off "Anti-Capitalist Message" on Brennan's board.Brennan: Ok, we're going live. Just wanted to come in here... a lot of people have been saying that Elon Musk is a singularly evil, wildly incompetent, befuddled nepo-baby silver spoon motherfucker, a guy born under literally the wealth of Apartheid, one of the most evil systems of oppression in the history of the planet. People are saying that there's no vision that he had either for Tesla or for PayPal...companies can spend their entire lives trying to get a piece of nomenclature that is "corporate IP branded", like "Band-Aid" for bandages, We were all saying "tweet" and he got rid of that and replaced it with post! Some people are saying that we're living in a time where we are watching maybe the biggest example of why Capitalism doesn't work, and why these billionaires are actually often the least deserving people you know, these are assholes that got lucky at the casino and the entire wealth infrastructure of corporate ownership is in fact basically a fraud, and these people are born on third base, and our digital public squares are forever ruined by their horrible increasingly right-wing, fascist ideologies, this asshole in a backwards stetson on a fucking board, what a true dyed-in-the-wool moron. This is what people are saying. Um...sometimes when you say true stuff...
Sam: Wait a second! "Defend"?
Brennan: Oh! Sorry, what's the prompt?...Elon Musk, if you're watching this, uh, make sure to get eight hours of sleep every night because otherwise you can uh, develop, uh, some courtesol levels that are unhealthy.- The bingo ball Brennan gets for it is 69 ("Nice!"), which Raph says isn't funny because it's not on his bingo card... until Sam points out that he (Sam) is looking right at it, which prompts Raph to immediately take it back.
- Lily reaches a peak of frustration when one of her prompts to Katie, "Text your husband from Sam's phone and tell him how Katie's doing a bad job at the game," fails to net her a bingo space for Katie naming her husband - despite seeming like a slam dunk of a prompt, it fails when Katie hands the phone back to Sam to read it aloud.Lily: Why didn't you say your husband's name, you HARLOT?!
- When the episode's true twist was revealed, much of the cast was amused. Lily went feral with glee, but Brennan practically went into shock.Sam: Brennan are you okay?
Trapp: Say you're "sweating a river" 'cause then I can stamp that in my- (rest of the cast breaks)
Brennan: I said it on mic just before cameras were rolling. - The behind the scenes special revealed one of the filmed prompts that was edited out. Katie got the prompt "Get Violent With Sam." Brennan immediately darted out of her way, and Katie grabbed her bingo board and started whacking him with it for real. Sam even admitted that he was glad that she used the board instead of something more solid because it would have genuinely hurt him. While walking back to her podium, Katie says in a perfectly serious and deadpan tone that she's going to kill Sam after the shoot.
- Sam also revealed that Brennan was an emergency sub after Grant tested positive for COVID, meaning that the crew knew Brennan well enough to make his Bingo board in less than an hour, and Trapp WON with it.
Deja Vu
- Every time the players have to bribe Sam, Siobhan starts coming up with pretend excuses for it, like wanting a really good table at a restaurant, or not looking at the dolls she's importing from Colombia.
- Siobhan also manages to bribe Brian into giving her podium a pass, and Trapp bribes 'Grant' into leaving his alone.
- After several rewinds, Siobhan tells Sam to look over there so she can sneak some boxes in.
- Siobhan and Ify conspire to get ducks and not give any to Trapp, who's right in earshot and looks a bit annoyed and confused.
- The Wenis; the silly dance that Sam makes everyone do before the loop resets. More and more of the crew join in each time it's performed.
- Zac's incredibly unflattering impression of Grant, who had to be replaced in this episode due to catching COVID. Zac was told he could play himself when he was brought in, but thought it would be funnier if he still played it as if he were Grant.
- The contestants attempt to turn things around on Brian's random podium inspection by pulling a random ponytail inspection. It doesn't work.
- One prompt is "Gimme A Duck", with a series of rubber ducks kept on a very high shelf. The players immediately figure out that a different prompt, "Point or Box" is meant to help with this, as if they gather enough boxes, they can stack them up and reach the ducks on the shelf. As soon as this is discovered, Trapp runs off stage and comes back with a ladder.Sam: Oh, Trapp, I'm afraid that there's a very-
Trapp: Oh, you don't like out of the box thinking on Game Changer?!
Sam: There is a very specific game mechanic in mind that we have to-
Trapp: Yeah, you want us to stack up the boxes. But guess what? I've got a fucking ladder, and it's way taller! - During the second loop, the players respond to 'Gimme A Duck' by drawing ducks on paper and giving them to Sam. Sam coos over the drawings, tells them 'Great job, kindergarten class!', and then proceeds to rip the papers up and give none of them points.
- Also during the second loop, Brian gives just Siobhan a point, due to there being spaghetti on the carpet by the other two podiums:Brian: (at Siobhan's podium) Clean as a whistle.
Siobhan: Thank you.
Brian: (at Ify and Trapp's podiums) Mmm... Now that crosses the line, I think. Sam! Those two podiums are absolutely slathered in spaghetti and its meated balls. Only one point, for Siobhan.
Sam: Congratulations Siobhan!
Trapp: I don't think that this is a part of the podium. That's the front lawn of the podium! - Ify games things by hitting the buzzer and drawing out the answer, giving him time to think, which pisses off Siobhan as it's the same tactic Ify and Brennan used against her in
Um, Actually. What's even funnier is that, as Siobhan gets angrier, her RP accent really comes through.Siobhan: No you can't buzz in if you don't know the answer! I know what the answer is! He doesn't know!
Beat the Buzzer
- The episode begins with the contestants' buzzers failing due to technical problems, forcing them to search for replacements around the studio. Becca discovers the first one under a crew member's conspicuous stovepipe hat (which she steals for herself) and things only escalate from there.
- Becca and Erika get into a dispute over the Authorship Question of Shakespeare, with Erika denigrating skeptics as elitists who can't accept that a tanner's son might have something to say about the human condition.
- Rekha's increasing confusion about where Becca and Erika are finding rooms containing their buzzers."Are we even in the same fucking building?"
- Becca giggling like a loon while getting lost in a maze of mirrors.Becca: Just because I'm a mom doesn't mean I'm not cool any more!
- One puzzle required the players to gather items for a witch's brew. The witch, played by Persephone Valentine, is clearly having a blast.
- Rekha tries to fulfill her request for "thread from a librarian's sweater" by pulling a thread off her own sweater. The witch just flatly tells her that she doesn't count because she doesn't have a library sciences degree.
- The takeout menu that offers various fast-food items + a buzzer. Rekha orders Oreos and the "delivery guy" hands them to her loose in an insulated bag... and also hands her the bag.
- One buzzer is hidden behind two college students hooking up. They don't stop hooking up at any point.
- The Behind the Scenes video revealed that the actors hired to play the college students were an actual couple and continued making out even once the buzzer behind them had been used, causing confusion among the crew over whether they knew they could stop or were choosing to keep going.
- One of the buzzers is on a 7 second timer, and Rekha manages to press it at the right time.Rekha: That one is sort of like a bad boyfriend, because you have to like, really catch them at a good time, and I'm like-
Erika: STOP DATING MEN! - Erika goes on a long monologue about who qualifies as the main character of Lord of the Rings while Becca and Rekha dance behind them.
- One of the many buzzers is found inside a set of Sam Reich Matryoshka dolls, which Erika stacks in a line next to Sam's podium. Sam jokes that he hatched them like eggs, and includes them in his outro by saying "We have been your hosts, Sams Reich."
Ratfish (Part 1)
- Grant's character is "Jackson Alberta, PHD", a Professor of Symbology at Yale, cracker of ancient codes, and Robert Langdon Expy.Grant/Jackson: I have adventures all across the States and Europe. (corpsing) Never the global south, though!
- When deciding on his character's location, Grant innocently asks Sam for the location of an Ivy League school.explainationSam: (off-camera) God dammit!
- When deciding on his character's location, Grant innocently asks Sam for the location of an Ivy League school.explaination
- The character that Ally chooses to play as is "Brennan Lee Mulligan". The real Brennan is unamused and spends most of the episode nitpicking all the impersonator's mistakes.
- The real Brennan's response to Ally's Brennan leads to one of Sam's best one-liners:Brennan: Great, I'm gonna have a lot to talk to my therapist about after whatever today is.Sam: (narrating) The mark of any good Game Changer episode.
- "Brennan" responds to an icebreaker question about his pet peeves with an overly-wordy callout about "bugs whose anatomy involves having a large backside but insist on calling it "a big ass"". The real Brennan, who's playing as A Bug With a Big Ass, gets annoyed that "Brennan" thinks they can just use "five-dollar words" and mimic him.
- Grant attempts an Imposter Exposing Test on "Brennan" by asking what improv team they were on in New York. This immediately backfires on him, as both he and Ally realize that in order to ask "Brennan" that, Grant's character has to be someone who was there at the time, and unfortunately Ally was also there at the time. He resorts to repeatedly replying to Ally's attempts to dig deeper with "Hmmm".
- The real Brennan's response to Ally's Brennan leads to one of Sam's best one-liners:
- Brennan plays "A Bug With A Big Ass" in an attempt to mislead people into thinking he's Rekha, because her sense of humor revolves mostly around cute things with very large sexual organs. Every single other player calls A Bug With A Big Ass out as sounding like Rekha, including the real Rekha.
- Rekha's character, a side table, keeps answering questions with lame table puns.
- Jackson Alberta remarks that his favorite karaoke song is "The Rose" by Bette Midler. Ally immediately clocks this as a gay man.
- graNma sWeetie (Zac Oyama) continually gives out her Social Security number in chat (which is one digit too long to be a real one).
- The Ratfish's character is one of the snakes on Medusa's head (named Steve). Despite concocting a detailed backstory about how he and the other snakes got together to work for her in the video segments, almost all of his chat dialogue is about his affinity for taco trucks.
Ratfish (Part 2)
- Brennan is eliminated out of the other player's fear of his competitiveness and immediately takes the mask off in a private chat since it doesn't matter anymore.Brennan (as A Bug With a Big Ass): Ligma balls.
Katie (as Jack Stryker): I haven't an idea what that means.
Brennan: How could you? Small men never dream of great things. They wallow in mediocrity, satisfied to pass their meager days in dull sport and the flailing misery of a life misspent. You, sir, are a ghost of your own life, made to haunt the world even before the day of your death.
Katie: Brennan? - When Rekha selects him as the player to eliminate because he's such a threat, Brennan points out that this is the third competition episode where he's actually lost because of that.
- During the Blind Date round, Adjustable Side Table asks The Landlord if he's ever broken a table over someone's head. The Landlord claims that it was a different time.
- In the final challenge, the contestants are told to make gifts on a little canvas for the other players. Their art skill... varies in quality. Grant foregoes it entirely and just writes that if the Ratfish chooses him to be their favourite character, he will pay him $300.
- In the final roundtable, Brennan is about to sit down when he notices the sign that says "Brennan Lee Mulligan" and goes to sit there instead, only to realize that the places are labelled by character instead of player.
Season 7
One Year Later
- Vic, Lou, and Jacob are each given a folder full of challenges to complete, and a time limit of exactly one year to do it. The part of the episode explaining this was filmed right after Sam Says 3. Lou is still drunk.Lou: I have been chugging coffee, trying to feel normal. But you know... (grabs beer bottle) Hard to break a habit.
- The challenges themselves are also something.Vic: "Collect the most locks of people's hair we know?!"
- The challenges themselves are also something.
- In general, Vic had some very... creative interpretations of some of the prompts, mostly revolving around fucking with Sam's head. Their points eventually go down into the negatives, which had to be added in post because the point counters in the studio couldn't go below zero. Vic's justification for their behaviour when Sam points out that they have to at least try to follow the prompts is that they were given far too much time and leeway and that they need clear boundaries.
- The first challenge was to create the best outfit to bring to the taping of the next part of the show. Jacob comes dressed in an exact copy of Sam's suit, Vic is dressed in a giant squid costume they made themselfnote , and Lou lures Sam into a false sense of security by showing off his "I've Been Here The Whole Time" watch before ripping his entire outfit open and giving a long-winded explanation of what his look represents wearing nothing but shoes, boxers, and a cloth belt for his mic pack. He then hands Sam a phone that projects clothes onto him in AR... which only Sam can see, so to everyone else he's still naked.
- Another challenge was to find the coolest free Craigslist item.
- Lou brings in a jet ski, which was apparently found abandoned near Long Beach and refurbished by Lou himself. Lou then waits for Jacob to be done with his presentation before revealing that he actually got two jet skis, the second one being adorned with the Game Changer logo.
- Jacob brings in a motorcycle, and reveals that he also took motorcycle classes so he'd actually be able to ride it. He then goes into a very long explanation of how he got it: the seller was a woman trying to give away her husband's motorbike because they had a baby on the way and she feared it would be too dangerous. She proceeded to immediately get way too emotionally vulnerable with Jacob over e-mail, had a phone call with him that lasted 42 minutes, and requested that he come pick up the bike when her husband was not at home. Jacob then clarifies that he got out of there as fast as he physically could, but also jokes that on top of getting a motorbike, he may now also be the baby's godfather.
- Vic's submission seems to pale in comparison at first, being a very old, stuffed Gizmo doll from Gremlins, that Sam reveals to be his own childhood toy since he was five years old, and that it went missing a few months prior. Vic then pulls out a birthday card from Sam's aunt, and finally the deed to Sam's house.Vic: Sam, it's a deed to my home, and—
Sam: WOW!! YOU FORGED MY SIGNATURE?!- Vic then tries to prove she does legitimately own Sam's house by showing off some photos that were apparently posted in Architectural Digest, in which she is posing for "happy couple" photos in Sam's house, with Elaine Carroll, Sam's wife. A cut scene even shows Vic Flipping the Bird at the camera while sitting next to Elaine.Sam: This does make it look an awful lot like... you also took my wife.
Jacob: Is your wife in the small print, Sam?
Sam: (checks the deed) No, it seems like that was entirely voluntary, which is more hurtful.
Sam: (sighs dejectedly) That is going to be three points for Lou, two points for Jacob, and another point away from Vic. For robbing my home. - As a little Rewatch Bonus: After the above exchange, Sam states that "Vic, the good news is, there's nowhere to go but up from here"... before the aforementioned point where Vic's points go into the negatives.
- Vic then tries to prove she does legitimately own Sam's house by showing off some photos that were apparently posted in Architectural Digest, in which she is posing for "happy couple" photos in Sam's house, with Elaine Carroll, Sam's wife. A cut scene even shows Vic Flipping the Bird at the camera while sitting next to Elaine.
- Keeping a sourdough starter alive went well for Jacob, who had some prior experience with doing so during the COVID-19 pandemic and whose starter produced a beautiful loaf of bread. It went less well for Lou, who was so busy with other challenges he hadn't actually opened his starter the entire year. Ash tells Sam that they couldn't use the starter to make bread due to health concerns... at which point Lou grabs the congealed remains of his starter and starts chasing Sam around with it.note
- It apparently didn't go well for Vic either, because she brought a jar of sand and tries to gaslight Sam into thinking it's a sourdough starter. When Sam asks for the loaf of bread her "starter" made, Ash brings in a cutting board with a large pile of sand on it, and Sam is forced under protest to sample it, confirming it is indeed just sand.
- In a beautiful game of one-upmanship, Jacob shows a small vlog of him taking the Sam standee that they had to place in the most remote location to an abandoned mining town in the middle of nowhere, and having it lowered down to the bottom of the deepest mineshaft. Lou then casually mentions that he had his standee shipped to a research base in Antarctica.
- Vic loses points yet again for trying to give a Mathematician's Answer: they took a picture of the standee with over 400 TV remotes. The behind-the-scenes feature reveals this was their Plan B, as their original goal had been to send their Sam standee to space.Jacob: (incensed) No one lives underground, Sam! There are no denizens under the earth, my dude! Politely!
Vic: You just got two points, they're having to VFX a negative sign to mine!
Jacob: I deserve three!
- Vic loses points yet again for trying to give a Mathematician's Answer: they took a picture of the standee with over 400 TV remotes. The behind-the-scenes feature reveals this was their Plan B, as their original goal had been to send their Sam standee to space.
- For the challenge to design a best-selling piece of Dropout merch, Lou decided to create a limited-edition Kingston Brown plushie. It's limited edition because every plushie comes with a tiny piece of Lou's hair in a heart-shaped piece of resin.Jacob: A clone of you is gonna get birthed out of the vagina of a sheep.
Lou: Don't put that on me!- Because Lou's plushies were limited-edition and sold out after 3 hours, the challenge was cut off after 3 hours, with the deciding factor being how much money each merch item made. Vic loudly complains about this ruling the entire time... until it's revealed they won, at which point they sheepishly tell Sam that the ruling was actually completely fair.
- For the "Who can get the best vanity license plate?" challenge, Lou got a plate reading IMDAJKR and, because people kept misreading it as "I'm da jacker", paired it with a wrap that gave his Honda Civic the Joker's trademark smile and a jagged "HA HA HA." He also moved to a new neighborhood in the time he undertook this and had to deal with driving a car that looked potentially both edgelordy and cringy around while interacting with his new neighbors.
- As an illustration of the kind of world Dropout regulars have to live in, shortly after the episode was released, Ify Nwadiwe tweeted a photo
of the car and related his response when he discovered it was Lou's.Ify: Without skipping a beat, I said “gamechanger?”
- As an illustration of the kind of world Dropout regulars have to live in, shortly after the episode was released, Ify Nwadiwe tweeted a photo
- While all the entries for "Who can create the coolest voicemail message?" are variously impressive and creative, Vic's entry, a fully produced musical starring their sister Sarah, is hilarious in how well done the production is, only for the actual voicemail to be the final line of the show, completely divorced from its preceding context. The full musical as revealed on the Behind the Scenes the following week gives more than a few highlights:
- The family recording * starts out normally enough, recording why various members of this "average nuclear family" can't come to the phone, only for the dad's verse to go on an extended tangent about why they're definitely not a werewolf.
- A pair of posh sisters * who can't come to the phone because their much abused staff have recently unionized.
- A supposedly sexy phone menu *, that devolves into variations of "X, and British" drawing the ire of Siobhan Thompson who emerges from backstage.Siobhan: You guys are being a little liberal with the British accents.
Angela: You're just pissed because we sound exactly fucking like you!
- This exchange that happens before the points for the aforementioned voicemail challenge are given out
- Sam: I might take issue with the fact that when each of you were presented with the prompt “coolest,” you picked musical theater, a marching band, and church respectively.
Vic: Right.
Jacob: Careful now, Sam!
Lou: You’re coming after about 97% of the Dropout audience.
Vic: There can’t be a single musical theater kid that subscribes to this platform.
Lou: And at least one of y’all gotta go to church.
- And after the points are given out (3 points for Lou, 2 points for Vic, 1 point for Jacob.)Jacob: You heard it right here, high school kids at Arcadia High. Sam Reich doesn’t like your work!
- The contestants each got 1000 dollars to invest in the stock market. The results varied.
- Lou decided that the stock market couldn't be trusted, and decided to spend the full 1000 dollars on Pumpkin Patch scratch-off lottery tickets, with a grand prize of 30.000 dollars. He spent three weeks scratching over 600 tickets, and made... 454 dollars.Lou: Don't gamble, kids! There is no cash in the pumpkin patch!
- Jacob made a very good call by putting his full investment into graphics card company Nvidia, which had a fantastic year, nearly tripling his initial investment. Sam then comments he'd never expected to see Jacob talk about stocks while wearing a fancy suit, and Jacob's subsequent hammy speech gets the same VFX treatment he'd received in Sam Says 3, except instead of Super Saiyan hair, he gets a top hat, a monocle, and a Super Saiyan mustache.Jacob: Jacob the Punk is dead, and Jacob the Capitalist is HERE! MR. MONEYBAGS HAS ARRIVED!
- Vic runs off stage and comes back on with their brother, who they'd flown in to present on behalf of their new company: Investment Account Inc., a brand new company looking for investors. They proceed to show their financials, which looks like a line graph absolutely plummeting into the ground. Vic's brother clarifies they'd spent 600 dollars on a vending machine (which looks absolutely disgusting), 300 dollars on onboarding 39 new employees (they bought them all pizza and got a bulk discount), 200 dollars for a corporate retreat, and after realizing they were 100 dollars in the red, got 100 dollars from Lou in exchange for 60% of the company. After summer break they spent 50 dollars on logo design and 100 dollars on an HR meeting about negligent spending, but got back out of the red by finding 250 dollars (they refuse to specify where they found it). They then plunged right back into the red by spending 400 dollars to design the presentation. Their projected profits for 2025? 100 million dollars. They then offer to sell various percentages of the company for "1 dollar more than Jacob made".Sam: Now, this couldn't be because you bought a vending machine in the hopes of doing something with it, and then decided to hard pivot into a completely vacuous, Shark Tank style presentation?
Vic: Sam, you're assuming that I bought this vending machine and then realized that the plug wasn't plugged into the vending machine, and that there was no credit card reader, so not even the hospital would take it to put in the basement?- While Sam doesn't budge on their offer, they do get one investor: Zach from The Try Guys. He gives them 10,000 dollars for 12% of the company, and hands them a check on the spot. Although a keen-eyed viewer might see that the check is in fact just a piece of construction paper with the word "CASH" written on it.
- Investment Account Inc. also briefly shows a list of employees. Their jobs include COO, COO 2, COO 3, Chief Complainer, Head of Custodial Arts, Leeds Certificate Pursuant, Head of Beauty, Director of Directing, Chief Baker, COO 4, Choreographer, Lead Scorer, Head of Book Club, Chief Buyer, Party Planning Lead, and Lead Vocals. Additionally, every one of the names appear to be Vic's friends and coworkers.
- Lou decided that the stock market couldn't be trusted, and decided to spend the full 1000 dollars on Pumpkin Patch scratch-off lottery tickets, with a grand prize of 30.000 dollars. He spent three weeks scratching over 600 tickets, and made... 454 dollars.
- Vic's card magic trick goes awry when a card that was meant to jump to Sam's pocket ends up somewhere else. She brings out a sledgehammer and absolutely destroys Sam's podium, triumphantly pulling out an eight of clubs from inside it... which was not Sam's card. They then sheepishly feel along the top of the monitor behind the podium and find a six of diamonds, which was Sam's card. Sam then spends the rest of the episode behind a podium with several massive holes in it.
- One of the prompts was "who can get the most exotic animal encounter?" Vic, Lou and Jacob were all given a pretty sizeable budget for the necessary expenses... but they decided to go to a fancy restaurant with their friends instead while blowing massive amounts of money on everything. To still fulfill the prompt, they paid the owners of Zuri, the ring-tailed lemur, to bring her to the restaurant as well.Vic: When daddy's away, you can cum now.
- They quickly realize the problem with bringing a semi-wild animal into a restaurant when Zuri poops right off the edge of the table. They cover up the poop with a 100-dollar bill.Vic: Hey, you haven't touched your food.
Jeremy: Oh, you know what? I was gonna touch it, but then she started shitting everywhere.
- They quickly realize the problem with bringing a semi-wild animal into a restaurant when Zuri poops right off the edge of the table. They cover up the poop with a 100-dollar bill.
- The contestants team up again for the challenge of taking the most interesting candids of Sam. By putting a hidden camera in his house (which the contestants insist is Vic's house), which Sam apparently failed to notice for over TWO MONTHS. The Behind the Scenes feature noted that Sam actually moved the hidden camera without ever realizing what it was.Sam: I must be the most inobservant person on the PLANET! [...] To think what that camera must have captured that you DIDN'T show!
- The final challenge (collecting locks of their loved ones' hair) was apparently a bridge too far for the contestants, especially since they received that challenge right after filming Sam Says 3. They proceed to stage a full revolt, which culminates in them leading the entire crew into chanting "I AM CUMMING" (referencing Sam Says 3 again, since in that episode they all repeatedly told the audience they could cum now). They then give Sam a prize of his own: since he has such a need for control and a fixation on fetish and kink, they booked him a one hour session with Maria Two-Straps, a kink therapist, to take place right there and then while the rest of the cast and crew went outside to have a party. Doubles as Awesome.
- They also acknowledge the "accidental Renaissance painting" meme that was their dejected poses at the end of "Sam Says 3", before gifting Sam an actual Renaissance-style painting of the three. And if you look closely enough, you'll realize they're in almost the exact same positions and poses as they were chanting "I AM CUMMING!" moments earlier.Lou: Nothing accidental about that.
- Sam is genuinely intrigued by what a kink therapy session looks like... but changes his mind immediately when he sees that Henry the pot-belly pig in a little cowboy hat is also invited to the party.Sam: Henry's here?! I wanna hang out with Henry!
- They also acknowledge the "accidental Renaissance painting" meme that was their dejected poses at the end of "Sam Says 3", before gifting Sam an actual Renaissance-style painting of the three. And if you look closely enough, you'll realize they're in almost the exact same positions and poses as they were chanting "I AM CUMMING!" moments earlier.
- The episode ends with a series of rapid cutaways between the people outside absolutely partying it up, and Maria leading Sam into talking about his control issues.Jacob: (outside, partying) The molly's hittin'.
Maria: (inside, in therapy) It's an interesting paradox, right? The desire, the need for control usually comes from deep feelings of not feeling in control... - Sam, his hour in therapy up, announces himself to the party with a triumphant "I'M TOTALLY CURED!" , and the words barely leave Sam's lips in the time it takes Jacob to call back "yeah right!"
- Lou's ultimate prize at the end of the episode is the Swear Jar from Sam Says 3, containing a government bond for $1000... eligible for redemption in 2035. Over a decade after the filming of the episode.
You-lympics
- All three contestants get a flag with a mascot on it. Katie's is a dog, Ify's is the peach/butt emoji, and Brennan's is the Roseate Spoonbill.Brennan: Really proud of yourself, huh?
- The gimmick of the game soon becomes clear: the players will be judged not against one another, but against their own scores from the week prior. Notorious tryhard Brennan immediately looks like he's regretting everything.Brennan: Once again, Sam Reich has found a novel way to punish you for doing your best! The man is sick! He's a sick, sick man!
Jordan: First up is Brennan Lee Mulligan!
Brennan: Fuck! - Dropout collaborators Jordan Myrick and Demi Adejuyigbe are present to provide absurd colour commentary with totally straight faces and laced with snark. Early on, Brennan tries to appeal to them that he won't take it personally because he knows that they're just reading off the prompter, to which Demi and Jordan correct him that that's not true and they are just telling the truth, even if there is a prompter there.Brennan: I know that you guys are saying what's written on the prompter, and I don't hold it against you personally—
Demi: (cutting him off) Brennan's already mistaken, not off to a great start.
Brennan: (incredulous and looking at the prompter) That's from the heart??
Jordan: There is a prompter, but we're just speaking the truth. - The crew's silly little dances during the opening ceremonies.
- Ify Nwadiwe attributes his incredible high jump score to "the Black tradition of seeing a high sign and jumping up to see if you can touch it." Co-commentator Demi Adejuyigbe chimes in that he always failed at that particular practice.
- When the contestants are asked to clip as many clothespins to themselves as possible, Brennan asks if bone is allowed.
- The contestants can name significantly more pasta shapes the second time around, and while Ify taps out after beating his score, Brennan and Katie just keep going.Sam: Did the both of you study in-between shoots?!
Katie: Yes, of course we did!
Brennan: (sarcastic) No, Sam, I was having a stroke last Friday. Yeah, we studied! We took the shame and we got better!
Sam: You didn't even know you were gonna be doing this again!
Brennan: I bought a board game about different bird species, you think I'm not googling pasta?! - The next challenge is to see who can keep a cat in their lap the longest. During the first go around, Mayday the cat jumped off Brennan's lap immediately, barely even touched Katie's lap before fleeing... but immediately settled in on Ify's lap, even trying to use him as a scratching post.
- The second go around, Brennan pulls a bacon sandwich out of his pocket and starts rubbing bacon on his fingers.Sam: You did not need to go to the bathroom, did you?
Brennan: (innocently) What?- Katie immediately starts chasing Brennan down, but he wards her off by shoving the entire sandwich down his pants. As soon as she realizes she won't be able to use his tricks, she yells that she needs the bathroom as well and runs off stage to grab her own sandwich, while Brennan experiences immediate regret.Brennan: I can feel every ingredient of the sandwich on a different location on my genitals.
- Katie immediately starts chasing Brennan down, but he wards her off by shoving the entire sandwich down his pants. As soon as she realizes she won't be able to use his tricks, she yells that she needs the bathroom as well and runs off stage to grab her own sandwich, while Brennan experiences immediate regret.
- Mayday starts furiously licking Brennan's fingers before apparently remembering where he is and trying to jump off. Brennan physically catches him before he can get away and distracts him again with bacon fingers.Ify: We should cut it there, you caught the cat.
Brennan: He got excited about the sandwich and he was jumping for joy!
Ify: The cat escaped and you caught it!
Brennan: Mayday loves the sandwich and he said yippee, and he jumped up, and if you check the camera angles—
Ify: Just- just mind yourself, the precedent you're setting right now.
Katie: You don't know what you've done, Brennan.
Demi: Luring him in with food and refusing to let the cat leave, Brennan employing the tactics of a predator to win this challenge.
Brennan: (shocked, haunted stare) - The bacon strategy also works flawlessly for Katie, who just starts feeding Mayday pieces of bacon.Brennan: I'm fine with this. It can work for both of us. History will remember me as the man (corpsing) who shoved a sandwich down his pants.
- Ify decides against shoving sandwiches down his pants and goes in without any aid to help convince Mayday to stay in his lap. Turns out he didn't need it, because Mayday settles right in and refuses to get off Ify's lap until Ify physically hands him back to his handler.
- The second go around, Brennan pulls a bacon sandwich out of his pocket and starts rubbing bacon on his fingers.
- The contestants play a game that resembles but is legally distinct from SkiFree.
- Ify's first attempt earns him 74 points before crashing. His second attempt sees him crash almost immediately, earning one point, which causes Ify and Demi to fall about laughing.Jordan: ...I've actually never seen anyone do so poorly at a game.
Brennan: You should've been here last week. - Brennan isn't kidding - while Katie also earned one point, Brennan got zero, spending more time moving his avatar up the mountain to get his bearings and then hitting a tree. To make things better, his second attempt sees him win by barely even moving the joystick.Jordan: Brennan has seemed to find a hack to the game where if you do almost nothing, you win...?
- Ify's first attempt earns him 74 points before crashing. His second attempt sees him crash almost immediately, earning one point, which causes Ify and Demi to fall about laughing.
- The contestants have to name the on-set P.A.s, which Demi notes is a tough one - as this was a challenge he failed at seven years ago on Um, Actually: In their first attempt, Katie writes more names than there are P.A.s (one of them is Sam), and in the second attempt, Ify uses names from "Mambo No. 5". Demi and Jordan joke that Ify will have to buy an Uber Eats gift card for the P.A. he forgot.
- Ify throwing himself backward during the crab walk resembles the inverted movements from TENET.
- Round three of the You-lympics: The players get to run the whole gauntlet again, this time competing against their personal bests from round one and two. Once again, Sam has trapped the contestants in the game show equivalent of a "Groundhog Day" Loop.Brennan: My dick is covered in grease, man! Let me go home! Man, I gave you everything I had!
- Right before the above dialogue, Jordan and Demi cue up a clip from an hour ago, which turns out to be Brennan ranting about Sam punishing people for trying their best, with his "the man is sick" line played in slow-motion for dramatic effect.
- The contestant's defeated look after learning there will be a third round could be taken as another "accidental Renaissance painting."
- The replay footage of the cat challenge features a shot of Mayday the cat prominently showing his butt-hole to the camera; this prompts Brennan to say that he misses Izzy, then having to clarify that it's because of the butt-holes bit from their episode of Sam Says, when everyone reacts in disgust.
- For the third crab walk, Katie takes her shoes and socks off, but requests that her feet be blurred so no "little freaks" can masturbate to them. Jordan and Demi point out that blurring them will likely not deter some people, and may in fact make them masturbate more.
- As a joke, Ify requests that his bare feet be magnified. And indeed, during the final crab walk, Katie's feet are blurred while Ify's are magnified.
- Brennan attempts to share in his victory with Ify and Katie, pointing out that they all showed up and did their best. He is immediately undercut by a flashback to exactly an hour ago when he declared "Eat My Dust, Marovitch".
Earnest-est
- Before the game itself begins, Lisa Gilroy surprises everyone by stating that she knows how the game works, before walking towards Sam's podium, stating "The game changes on you, Sam," and attempting to take over as host.Lisa: You're a contestant! You are a contestant!!
- Lisa's bit is Hilarious in Hindsight, since later in the season, Sam does become a contestant in Rulette via Jeremy's Hostile Show Takeover.
- Two of the challenges turn out to involve performing to the song "Kiss From A Rose", Sam claiming that the song cost $15,000 to license, but also that paying for it once equaled the cost of playing the song twice. The behind-the-scenes episode reveals this last part wasn't true, meaning Sam had to pay another $15,000 for the second time.
- Santa (definitely not Paul F. Tompkins in a Santa suit) greets everyone "What's up, dipshits?"
- The challenge is that the contestants have to tell Santa what they want for Christmas. Lisa wants the industry to be kinder to women...and then immediately shits on Zac for asking for a bicycle.
- Even funnier when Santa rats Zac out by telling everyone that Zac actually asked for a laptop but walked it back when announcing it out loud.
- The challenge is that the contestants have to tell Santa what they want for Christmas. Lisa wants the industry to be kinder to women...and then immediately shits on Zac for asking for a bicycle.
- One of the challenges is "Freestyle A Sam Diss Track."

- Ally's attempt is a disaster where they can only come up with "cat in the hat."Sam: Now, "Cat in the hat" is your- [laughs] - is your freestyle Sam diss track?
(Ally goes to run offstage through the exit door) - Zac's attempt is meager, but weirdly wholesome when says Sam is "so sweet and kind." In fact, Sam looks more offended when Zac says that he only pretends he likes to fuck, and not when he calls Sam a "fucked up lamb" or that Sam wouldn't help you out in a bind.Zac: Here to freestyle about Sam
He looks like a bit of a fucked up lamb
Sam is so sweet, Sam is so kind
In reality, won't help you out in a bind
Sam pretends that... he likes to fuck...
But everyone knows that Sam sucks - And then Lisa gets the mic... and verbally buries Sam so deep beneath the Earth that he probably reemerged in Madagascar. And once that Awesome Moment is over, she apologizes for calling him a "mushroom man..." but not the death threats. Classic Lisa Gilroy.Lisa: Fuck you, Sam!
Oh, Sam is stinky, pork and beans
Look at him with his white, white sneaks [Antonio: White!]
Idiot in a striped suit
Walkin' round here thinkin' that you're so cute
Four eyed bitch, I want to kill you!
And that’s what I'm gonna do
Sam, Sam they call you Reich?
But you're so rude you’re not even nice
I would push you off a building
I would throw you down the stairs
Sam, deeply, I do not care
You can't stand behind here and do the game
So you act like this, oh, so, so lame
Like, "Welcome to Game Changer, I'm the boss
"I'm scared inside and my heart is made of moss
"I'm a little tree baby, I'm a mushroom man!
"I'm scared - give me a can
"Of milk, Mommy please
"Give me my beans!
"I'm a little baby baby and I have disease
"I belong in the grave", yes you do!
Get in there, Sam, I'll kick you with my shoe!
Ugh!
- Ally's attempt is a disaster where they can only come up with "cat in the hat."
- One challenge involves Ally, Zac, and Lisa putting on Joker makeup and outfits, which they retain for the rest of the episode, including an affirmation challenge and a choreographed dance to the aforementioned "Kiss From A Rose".
Crowd Control
- In the first round, Gianmarco goes straight for a guy near the front with a large and fantastically-styled moustache and beard, who it turns out was the winner of a UK beard championship just the previous day, giving him a lot of good material to work with for his set. Then at the end of the round, Sam reveals that it was just a warmup round and no points will be awarded.Gianmarco: I wasted the beard guy for that shit?!
- In an effort to try to get just 10% of the crowd to raise their hands, Gianmarco asks the crowd - made up mostly of Dropout fans - if they've ever played Dungeons & Dragons. It does not go well for him.
- Similarly, Josh asks the crowd if they make more than $250,000 per year. One person (Later revealed to be Twitch-streamer Ranboo) raises their hand.Gianmarco: You forgot how many Dropout fans there were here!
- Similarly, Josh asks the crowd if they make more than $250,000 per year. One person (Later revealed to be Twitch-streamer Ranboo) raises their hand.
- Josh gets a man who has a phobia of feet. He admits that he has his girlfriend sleep in separate beds, and she always wears socks and slippers around the house. Josh says, "You must lay incredible pipe to get her to acquiesce to a demand like that." When the set is done:Jeff: I can't believe you used "lay pipe" and "acquiesce" in the same sentence.Josh: Oh, you never read the dictionary horny?
- Later, another audience member talks about her past as a (now-recovered) addict, and mentions that she once sucked someone's toes for cocaine. Naturally, Josh takes the opportunity to check in with the foot guy.Foot Guy: There's not enough cocaine in the world for me.
- Later, another audience member talks about her past as a (now-recovered) addict, and mentions that she once sucked someone's toes for cocaine. Naturally, Josh takes the opportunity to check in with the foot guy.
- When talking to the recovered addict, Josh sincerely commends her for her recovery, declaring that a very admirable achievement. He then asks her what her favorite thing was about doing cocaine.Woman: In five years of being a coke addict, I never paid for anything.
Josh: Go off. Teach me your ways.
Woman: I wore pretty, like, low-cut tops and dated terrible men.
Josh: They do seem to have all the cocaine. - Gianmarco asks a man about his profession; he turns out to be a paleontologist. Gianmarco says, "Oh, like Ross", much to the displeasure of the paleontologist. Soon after, Gianmarco says that the guy may be able to reassemble the skeleton of Matthew Perry, which goes over rough with the crowd. The paleontologist says he doesn't deal with human skeletons, to which Gianmarco says, "I like that was your problem with the joke that I just made."
- Josh asks a woman about her love life, and she reveals that she's in Seattle's kink community as an ABDL note practitioner. Everyone goes in.Gianmarco: I'm sorry, do you shit in the diaper? I'm just really curious.Woman: No.Jeff: Really?Woman: There's a huge split in the community between people who —Gianmarco: Yeah, it's called the ass crack!
- Gianmarco chooses one of the "red flag" audience members and asks her about her childhood. It turns out she was attacked by the National Forest Serial Killer
. When Gianmarco hears the moniker:So, uh, man or bear
? - Gianmarco quickly makes himself the "heel" of the episode by pushing right over the edge with his jokes / commentary, but being so audacious about it that he wins over the crowd. This causes Sam to repeatedly take a point away and then award it back a few minutes later.
The Drinking Game
- Erika has the side of her head shaved to say "SAM REICH SUX" on it.
- "Fool's Gold" would eventually reveal that this was part of an attempt to make a viral video, with Erika agreeing to get it shaved into their hair as a compromise.
- At multiple points Izzy tries to cheat the game in favor of the Drunk team, by pouring her own flask into the liquid-filled container displaying the team's current score, before Sam can stop her.
- Angela and Ele reveal that they’ve made an alliance before the game started… only for Ele to betray Angela by voting for her elimination twice. After she's eliminated, Angela has a Freak Out and refers to Ele as "Sober October".
- When trying to suss out the "secret sober", Jiavani accuses Lily of faking being drunk because of her lack of Drunken Glow, and deflects accusations of being racist by pointing out that she is also Asian*.Lily: Jiavani tried to use "Asian glow" against me! That's an Asian-on-Asian hatecrime!
(later)
Lily: Wait, Erika's also Asian!
Erika: Yeah, I don't get the red glow! I have a membership at a whiskey club! - Leaning hard into the performance of Alcohol-Induced Bisexuality, aided by that most of the contestants are already bi, the players tease each other to kiss or make excuses to kiss, culminating in a bizarre incident where Izzy and Ele crawl to each other, Izzy on all fours, Ele slithering like a worm, daring the other to kiss all the while.Sam: It's like the mating ritual between two different species!
- Later when Ele accused by Izzy of being the sober:Ele: Is it because we didn't kiss?!
Izzy: No, no. I would never sexually blackmail.
Erika: Unless it was consensual!
Izzy: Unless someone wanted me to sexually blackmail them. - One of the challenges is a game of Flip Cup. Lily, the secret sober, does a quite good job playing it, and then admits to the camera afterwards that she loves the game too much to intentionally play badly.
- After getting eliminated, Angela keeps yelling at the other players from the back room.
- Persephone is nominated for elimination, and is asked if she has anything to say in her defence.Persephone: Um, you're a bitch.
- One of the challenges is Sam listing superlatives like 'Most likely to win an Oscar' while the players try to nominate someone unanimously without conferring first. 'Most likely to be cancelled' has nearly everyone picking Sam; he accepts it as a valid answer despite not being a contestant.
- Izzy isn't nominated until the very last round, when Jiavani accuses her of faking the difficulty of a tongue twister. We then pan from focusing on Jiavani to Izzy, who is making a face of shock so exaggerated that it looks like she's pogging.
- The Reveal that all of the players were actually sober, thinking everyone else was drunk, and therefore all the chaotic antics, drunken slurring, stumbling, flirting, and singing were an act by everybody all along.
One and Done
- In the introduction, Sam apologises for Game Changer becoming synonymous with psychological torture. Zach immediately calls him a liar, and accuses him of enjoying it "so much". Sam unconvincingly denies it and asks the players what they specifically want to do today. Without a moment's hesitation, Ele replies "the Stanford Prison Experiment!"
- There's also a sense of humor that Sam is apologizing to Zach, Ele, and Demi, all of whom have only appeared rarely as contestants in the milder episodes, and not to the more frequent "torture victims" like Brennan or Lou.
- Before each challenge, a group of extras runs in to crowd around the contestant and yell "YOU ONLY HAVE ONE SHOT!" They do not lose an ounce of intensity as the episode wears on. If the contestant succeeds their task, the extras break out into spontaneous dance.
- Demi picks the challenge "Unclasp the bra on a mannequin one-handed." Despite some difficulty, he manages to get it done in a fairly quickly manner.Demi: You think I ain't fucked a mannequin before?!
- During the "Guess Which Cast Member is in the Mascot Costume" challenge, Zach and Ele immediately point out the lobster mascot costume has massive nipples.
- During the same challenge, while explaining that "this lobster is going to scream at you", Sam cracks and starts laughing, asking "What the fuck is this show?!"
- Katie Marovitch, who is in the mascot costume, is listed in the credits as... Katie Marovitch In Mascot Costume.
- The "Tao Timer," who appears during time-sensitive challenges, is just cast member Tao Yang running towards the stage from the Video Village area, screaming.
- The "boxing coach," played by actor Geoff Ross, motivating the players to succeed at the challenges but slowly revealing a very sad life.
- Each player has someone motivating them, with Demi having a child actor playing his number one fan. After Zach fails the challenge to "Pour a Perfect Pint," he offers the pint of beer that he did pour to the kid for being deeply disappointed in Demi's own failure.
Rulette
- The presence of Paul Refereeno, especially when he decides that Jeremy hasn't been acting sexily enough.
- One of the rules was having to wear a giant red cowboy hat, which the contestants fight over once Jeremy gets it.
- Anna and Oscar both break their rules to try and get Jeremy to give them the hat. Each time, he acts like he's going to give them the rule, only to give them a different one in its place. Anna attempts to play the Woman Card, and when it doesn't work, punches Jeremy square in the stomach. When she finally gets the hat from Oscar, she accidentally punches him in the face. She apologises immediately, but is forced to retract it due to the "Very Rudely" rule she's wearing.
Jeremy: Thank you, can I have ANOTHER?- Once Anna gets the hat, it's so big that it can go over her entire head. She starts dancing with it as soon as she puts it on, her head barely visible
.
- When the Shredder that can permanently destroy rules cards is revealed, Oscar tries to forge an alliance to make the game easier on them, it doesn't go well:Oscar: You guys, we need to work together to do that to every one of those.
Jeremy: *turning to Sam* Oscar didn't have big energy at the end! - One of the rules modifiers on the wheel is "Flip", which inverts a rule to the opposite, "Very Politely" becomes "Very Rudely", "No Filler Words" becomes "Full Valley Girl" and so on. It turns out the opposite of "Doing Your Best Christopher Walken" is "Doing Your Worst Robert De Niro". Anna just speaks normally while occasionally shouting The Godfather related words.
- In the ending minutes, Jeremy realizes that he can use the Swap power on the wheel to swap rules with Sam who has "Host The Show" on him. That's right, for the first time ever, Sam becomes a contestant on his own show!
- In exchange, Jeremy gives Sam the "Sexily" rule, which he goes full ham with... to everyone else's discomfort.
- Jeremy instantly abuses his position, taking and giving away points and giving more rules to Sam, even shifting the wheel to prevent the game from ending too early.Anna: Jeremy, can I have ten points?
Jeremy: Why, why?
Anna: I want them, you stupid fuck.
Jeremy: Convincing, I like that, let's give Anna ten points, points. - Sam uses a Flip modifier to change his "Sexily" rule to "Unsexily" (Ana, fulfilling her "Very rudely" rule, remarks "No difference"), and immediately starts picking his nose.Jeremy: Actually, I'm gonna take a point away from you, that's a fetish.
- Eventually, thanks to Oscar using a Clone modifier to give himself and Anna the "Host The Show" rule, Sam becomes the only contestant left, so he ends up winning the entire thing.
Fool's Gold
- Before the episode aired, Sam put out an announcement advising viewers to watch it as close to the premiere as possible. The sheer amount of viewers all flooding the website at once to watch resulted in crashing it.
- Paul Robalino's pitch for Game Changer's next viral video is to cover himself in glue and film himself getting it peeled off. Not only is Trapp the only one to bid on it, for the majority of the episode it's his only bid.
- Ana Garcia's pitch is an act where she and other cast members pull a throne on a wagon through Venice Beach, nominating random bystanders to be their king or queen, the last of which is an adorable little doggie.
- One of the "kings" is a kid who can't be older than ten. When asked what he wants, he declares, "Food!", so the Dropout team feeds him grapes.
- Ana spends the pitch as well as the viral video in character dressed as a court jester, complete with motley cap with jingling bells and a harlequin-patterned costume.
- Erika Ishii's custom sideshave from "Secret Sober" finally gets context, in which it turns out it was Jordan's idea to have it say "SAM REICH SUX".Erika: Sam?
Sam: Erika?
Erika: Sam?
Sam: Erika?
Erika: Know that I love you.
Sam: What have we done?
[Erika turns her head to reveal the "SAM REICH SUX" cut, to applause from the three producers]
Rekha: Yes! That's nice, that's nice.
Erika: I love you!
Jordan: I knows one thing that does well on Dropout: you getting absolutely fucking roasted.note - Katie Marovitch's pitch is an episode of Dimension 20 hosted by herself, having only played a single game of Dungeons and Dragons, as DM to players consisting entirely of professional DMs, like D20 DMs Brennan, Aabria and Jasmine, and Critical Role DM Matthew Mercer (who Katie misnames as "Mark Mercer," which is also reflected in his title card, including Bluesky and Instagram handles for "markmercervo" who is a real person). She starts by saying "air", and it quickly goes off the rails from there, from Katie's figurines consisting of random junk like a piece of lint or an M&M (which Aabria eats), having no storytelling elements aside from "you're on a bus in Los Angeles", and a combat round full of obtuse rules that culminates in the players attacking and destroying the bus within the first five minutes of the quest. Brennan grows increasingly furious over the incomprehensibility of the game, Aabria keeps cracking up, Jasmine is at first apathetic before getting angry, and Matt desperately tries to work the events into a coherent narrative.Matt: Are we abandoned on the freeway now, without a bus?
Brennan: Matt can't help himself but help you narrate this into making sense.- It's also worth noting that Katie's original pitch relied entirely on the idea of making Brennan upset, because clips of Brennan being upset always go viral.
- Persephone Valentine's pitch is a sexy car wash. Rekha agrees to sponsor the video if she also gets to participate, but even more clothed than usual. Sure enough, she turns up in the car wash, wearing a massive yellow snowcoat... and deliberately not being sexy and standing off to one side for much of it. At one point everyone else on her team poses seductively around the car, while Rekha rolls her eyes and is the one actually washing it.
- Grant O'Brian pitches an ASMR video of himself getting his joints cracked at the chiropractor. Trapp starts out initially extremely hostile to Grant, snarking about how he'll pay him to do even less, but eventually reneges when he realizes he's falling behind on bids.
- Johnny Stanton pitches a "Human Puppy Bowl" with football players playing a game in dog costumes. Jordan agrees to the bid if he agrees to fully invert the concept and include real puppies dressed as humans in the audience.
- New mothers Izzy Roland, Lily Du, and with the help of an offscreen Becca Scott, pitch a video of taste testing their actual breast milk. Jordan, with $6000 of their original $10k left, spends their entire money on the bid. What's more, after personally tasting each bottle themself, Jordan guesses which bottle belongs to which mom correctly, using their experience as a food influencer/critic, and their knowledge of their friends' lifestyle and diets.
- Jordan is completely in on the idea from the word "go", and drinks... a lot of the milk. When this is pointed out?
Jordan: I'm thirsty!- The announcer introduces it as "a batshit idea that I can't believe we went ahead with".
- Izzy returns to the stage again to pitch a reprise of her first viral Game Changer moment, the animated buttholes from "Sam Says". Trapp and Rekha split the cost of $4000 for cartoon buttholes shooting out of Izzy's butt, dancing, replacing their own faces with buttholes, and Trapp getting kidnapped by an enormous butthole reaching out of a portal and taking him to a Pandora populated by buttholes.
- Vic Michaelis makes the last pitch: a viral video of Brennan Lee Mulligan announcing his retirement from Dropout and from D&D altogether... to make American Girl doll shoes. Their requested bid? $20,000. Since this far exceeds any of the money the players have left, Sam agrees to split the cost with them, noting that if this video wins then the players would all earn the same points from this entry and thus make its success meaningless to the final results.
- Even Google is getting in on the joke (or was bought to). Looking up Brennan's name will have a blue heart float up the screen, and clicking on the emoji will cause shoes to fall from the web page.
Good luck with your next venture. We support you every step of the way.- Sam notes in the BTS that Vic managed to take such a ludicrously outrageous pitch that everyone agreed to before filming and still found a way to take everyone off guard on the day by adding way more detail than expected.
- After a month of results, the winner is Jordan. Sure enough, just as Sam expected, Brennan's fake retirement is the most popular video of the episode but ends up being irrelevant to the results. Instead, Jordan's breast milk tasting challenge wins, having gotten middling numbers
on sites that limit adult content like YouTube but exceeding Brennan's video in views on Instagram.
Who Wants to Be Jacob Wysocki?
- Kurt brings back a Brick Joke from Make Some Noise during his player intro, asking Sam to, again, call him ''Mr.'' Kurt.
- Every time Jake answers a question correctly, Sam finds a new way to act as if he got it wrong, only to turn it around and congratulate him properly.
- The game starts with a Lightning Round, with the prompt to draw the coolest cat. Three questions in, Sam tells Jacob that he might need to be replaced with the second-best answer to the Lightning Round, only to find out that the other contestants did not even draw a cat: Jeremy sketched a duck, Kimia a horse, and Kurt drew a decent portrait of Jacob.Kurt: I think I drew the coolest cat I know.
- Due to the dramatically transformed set compared to most Game Changer episodes, Jacob assumes everything is advanced down to a touchscreen for his answers, only to learn that's not the case.Jacob: Can I press the screen?
Sam: No, it doesn't do anything.
Jacob: The fuck? 70 lights, 15 iPads and chairs, and you can't fucking make this touch? - Immediately after answering the first question correctly, the other players immediately start urging him to walk away with just $100. Doubles as Hilarious in Hindsight since they know all the money is really for him.
- The first lifeline, or "ripcord", that Jacob uses is summoning a Tired Italian Man for help with an answer about Bowser. The man proves to be nearly unintelligible in Italian, being no help at all to Jacob.Kimia: How lucky that you used this one, and he got to say "Mario" and "Luigi"!
- Jacob turns to his friends and asks if they know what's going on. They insist that they don't. When Jake turns away, Jeremy looks to the camera and flashes a Kubrick Stare, complete with Evil Grin.
- Later on, Jacob is asked a question about his various catchphrases.
Jacob: This is another one where it's like, who's remembering these? Who's writing "Bongbong?"
The camera focuses on Kurt, who gives an exaggerated shrug while a Musical Spoiler sound is played over the soundtrack. - The questions grow more personal as Jacob is asked which of his friends is the funniest, three of which are standing right behind him. After initial apprehension about indirectly insulting at least two of them with his answer, Jacob goes for ripping off the Band-Aid and ranks all his friends in order from funniest to least funny.
- Not only was this not necessary (as the question only asked who Jacob thought was funniest), he also proceeds to troll the winner (Kimia) by pointing out that, in this context, funniest doesn't necessarily mean favorite. When the answer is accepted, the one decreed as the least funny (Jeremy) asks if that means Dropout agrees.
Kurt: I BEAT JEREMY! - Early in the game, Jacob decides to use the lifeline 'Bigfoot Sighting', which just causes a man in a Bigfoot costume to appear among the crew and do absolutely nothing, not even being acknowledged by Sam. Several questions later, it finally becomes clear what he does - when Jacob finally answers a question wrong, Bigfoot runs past the set and is noticed by Sam, who instantly forgets Jake's answer and gives him another go.
- While Bigfoot is present, he's repeatedly called out by Jake and his team for supposedly being useless.
- Another lifeline is named "Skip". Jacob chooses it, thinking it will allow him to skip a difficult question, but it turns out all it does is skip the episode's soundtrack ahead to a new song. Which of course Jacob cannot hear since the music wasn't playing during filming.
- Jacob is astonished when one of the questions asks which is his real fingerprint, having no memory of his prints being taken even when Sam tells him he got it off a wine glass a PA asked Jacob to hold. A later question asks Jacob for his blood type, and this time he remembers full well that Sam took a sample just a day before filming "One Year Later".Jacob: This is so fucking weird, man! Because I know when you got your little nubby paws on it, dude! I know when you got my blood, dude!
- Jacob's father Tim immediately proves that Jacob is a chip off the old block.Jacob: Did you meet Sasquatch?
Tim: Yes. As a matter of fact, I already slept with him. - In the Behind the Scenes, Kurt reveals that the episode was shot the same day that the Dodgers won the 2024 World Series
. Several of the participants can be seen throughout the episode checking their phones for baseball news, including Bigfoot.
Outvoted
- For their first question as candidates for Honorary Dropout President, the players are asked why the audience should vote for them. Aabria quickly goes for the diversity tactic and argues that she's the best pick due to being the only candidate who's a black queer woman. Knowing they can't dispute this, Ally and Brennan swerve right away to claiming they're running as Aabria's Vice President.
- Vic's pitch is to affect a fake Transatlantic accent (which, as Brennan predicts, is swiftly ditched by the next question) and then to bribe the audience for votes, first by offering an audience member a snack and then promising to hire all the others in the crowd with jobs at Dropout. Seeing this, Demi decides to up the ante and starts asking audience members for their Venmos, only to outplayed anyway when Vic's Mr. McMoneyBags endorsement gives everyone in the audience a dollar bill from beneath their seat.
- Ally asks to change their clothing into something more appropriate for the debate. They run offstage... and return in an obnoxiously orange outfit and shades, leaning further into a persona as a provocative, gun-toting, and possibly criminal Florida Man.Ally: It's true. I, uh, I am taking carpentry classes and it is true I own a gun [cracks up].
[entire audience erupts into laughter]
Sam: THAT WAS NOT SOMETHING I ASKED! - After Ally reveals unprompted that they own a gun, Brennan counters that he practices a much more effective home defense tactic: wielding a genuine broadsword in the nude. Demi replies he also owns 2 Guns, on Blu-Ray.
- When asked what they would play in the credits of this episode should they win, Vic claims the post-credits will be the entirety of Avengers: Endgame. Sure enough, after the end credits the Marvel opening fanfare appears with Dropout cast in the logo... before abruptly getting pulled due to a copyright claim.
- Each candidate is asked for their campaign slogan:Ally: "Three guns, two snakes, one love."
Demi: "I need this!"
Aabria: "I'm Brennan Lee Mulligan."
Brennan: "I am Aabria Iyengar."
Vic: "Hey guysssss. What's up it's Vic. Hi, love ya! Vote for me. If you don't hey no hard feelings. But I'd really love it if you vote for me. Just think about it. Doesn't have to be a firm yes but a tentative yes would be awesome. OK I love you so, so much. End message." - Brennan is fully aware of his reputation as a Competition Freak and thus how much the viewers loves seeing him humiliatingly lose. After he performs poorly in the first round, losing all demographics including the Dungeons and Dragons players much to everyone's surprise, he starts acknowledging that the audience will likely continue to vote for him to lose simply because it's funny... which causes them to turn Brennan's fortunes around and give him a mammoth lead in the second round.
- The candidates meet actors playing representatives of major lobbyists groups, including Big Tobacco, Hot People, Mr. McMoneyBags, and the Crew, who will perform favors for the candidates in exchange for being mentioned in their speeches. Big Tobacco (played by Chris Grace) in particular pulls up videos revealing alleged dirt on rival candidates, claiming that Brennan has daily diarrhea, Aabria wants to build a second Dakota Access Pipeline, Ally drank from a bidet, Demi has a goose penis, and Vic reads chapter books and eats seedless watermelon.
- Brennan's video ends with "Say No To BLM (not that one)".
- Demi decides to go all in on the Big Tobacco endorsement, asking an audience member for a real cigarette, going from smoking one to three cigarettes simultaneously, and eventually making the cigarette pack owner his running mate.
- The candidates take questions from the audience, one of which is "of all the animals, which would you be the happiest to see go extinct?" Demi declares "man", before contradicting himself on the next question about humanity's worth and hastily amending himself to say he meant "man, singular". Brennan nominates "specie", as in money itself (though as a term, it's specific only to coinage). Ally announces they will kill all cats, which gets the audience so upset that Ally attributes the backlash to them losing hard in the second round and being forced out of the race. Aabria more understandably answers mosquitos, which Ally remarks they should've said instead.
- Another audience question asks the candidates to talk about misinformation in a way that can be edited to sound bad out of context.Ally: All cats- should be killed by me!
Brennan: My campaign has been engaging in nonstop misinformation.
Vic: I think Ronald Reagan is super hot- I would open mouth kiss Ronald Reagan right now if given the opportunity.
Ally: I also would- wanna kiss Ronald Reagan right now too.
Vic and Ally: We wanna kiss Ronald Reagan now!
Aabria: I don't believe in BLM.
Demi: Of course I- have goose penis. Every time I got erect it sounds something like (plays cartoon "Boing-Boing!" effect on phone)
Ally: (imitating an Eye Pop with their sunglasses) Ronald Reagan! - The candidates are challenged with earning the endorsement of former Secretary of Labor and Sam’s father Robert Reich. Demi offers him a bribe for 3 dollars, to which Robert states that it meant nothing to him. Ally first tells Robert about a time that one of Robert's former students went up to Ally and stated how much Robert changed the student's life (which Robert also states meant nothing to him) and then collaborates with Vic to offer to build him an audience of Republican viewers, despite both being queer, which Aabria decides to join in as a Category Traitor. Lastly, Brennan offers to straighten out Sam for his misbehavior and have Robert on D20. In the end, Robert chooses… the bribe.
- Brennan also asks Robert Reich where he and Sam are from
, calling back to the "Where's Sam from" gag that started in "A Sponsored Episode" back in season 2.Sam: (outraged) My FATHER! - Which leads to Brennan offering to straighten out Sam Reich:Brennan: Your son has been playing a merry prankster, a glib little imp who dances about the platform...
(Sam puts his index fingers to his head to mimic horns and started swaying in his seat with his tongue slightly out of his mouth, grinning)
Brennan: ...whose father, who gave him life, who set him up back in Cambridge, Massachusetts, so he didn't have to grow up in that rust bucket Scranton, he had the height of that East Coast—
Robert: Wait a minute. Did you just say "height?"*
(Both Brennan and Sam freeze, and they get a playful Oh, Crap! expression while everyone else laughs).
- Brennan also asks Robert Reich where he and Sam are from
- Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld interrupt the debate to demand attention for their "niche comedy streaming platform", 2nd Try. Keith is playing noises on a trumpet and they are both wearing shirts to promote themselves that say "DROPOUT = COPOUT" and "2ndtry.tv: We're slightly cheaper". Sam has them removed by security and they leave yelling "Dropout is a fascist institution!" Afterwards, Aabria asks, "Sam, why was Grant O'Brien here?"
- The candidates are asked for the subject line of their fundraising campaign email:Brennan: "A little bit more money would help us...take your time, no rush!"
Aabria: I think I'm pretty famously on the record for never sending or checking an email, and I will not start now for this bit.
Vic: Heyyyyyyy! Oh my god, what's up! Hi! Oh my god, woah! Been awhile, uhh... Vic here. It's Vic. Vic, Vic, Vic... uh... what is your name? Kidding! I know, I'm sending you an email hahaha jk lol--"
Sam: And character limit.
Ally: "FIRE!!!!!!!!!! Just kidding — but hey, we really need your money"
Demi: "Wassup baby? Nigerian Prince here." - After Ally and Aabria are kicked from the running due to having the lowest two scores, they're allowed to endorse one of the remaining three candidates. Aabria gives a sincere endorsement for Vic. Ally...has a different approach:Ally: Picture this in a Notes app. It's come to my attention that some of you have seen a video of me leaving the strip club late at night. And it's true. And I just want to come clean about that. I used my power and I really manipulated a number of women, and on that, (walks towards Brennan) I'd like to give my—
(Brennan starts running away)
Ally: (chasing Brennan) I'd like to give, hey, and I'm dropping out. Hey. Hey, I'm dropping out. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't vote for Brennan Lee Mulligan. - Vic's running mate is Ally's sunglasses (which Ally claims were there that night at the strip club), on the "space alien" audience member.
- Brennan Lee Mulligan enlists Sam's wife, Elaine Carroll, as his running mate, to Sam's amusement, and drops out and endorses Elaine for president.Sam: Could it be said that this is a decision because the person who just endorsed [Ally] you is a predator?
- Brennan's self-made campaign ad is another version of an attack ad disparaging the other two remaining candidates, then announcing that he's dropping out of the race and handing his candidacy over to his running mate Elaine.Ally: There's nothing that I like more than crashing my Cybertruck into playgrounds in specifically underserved neighborhoods. And I do it every night, with Vic Michaelis.
"Cigarette Guy": Demi found me before the show and threatened to kick the dog shit outta me if I didn't give him all my cigarettes. They were a gift from my father.
Samalamadingdong
- Filmed back in November 2024, Sam thought he was going to a interview and photoshoot for Variety. That is, until Brennan Lee Mulligan walks in for a Change Gamer...Brennan: Get ready for a Change Gamer! Tonight's guest, the CEO of sadism [Sam Reich: "No!"], the host of humiliation, it's Sam Reich!
Sam: No!
Brennan: And your host for today, me. I've been here planning this in secret for months, if not years! This is Change Gamer, the only Game Changer where Sam Reich is in mortal danger. I'm your captor, Brennan Lee Mulligan—
Sam: What??
Brennan: I'm your captor, Brennan Lee Mulligan—
Sam: [notices Brennan's suit pattern; red and blue horizontal stripes that match a shirt that Brennan has worn several times on Dimension 20] The suit is the shirt! The suit is the shirt!!
Brennan: I'm your captor, Brennan Lee Mulligan, and I'm joined today by this singular contestant. Now Sam, you understand how the game works.
Sam: I hate the taste of my own medicine.
Brennan: Now that's right, our player has no idea what game it is he's about to play! The only way to survive is by playing, the only way to win is by trying your best—
Sam: That's consistent with Brennan's brand, not mine. Bad job, hosting my show!
Brennan: And the only way to proceed is by proceeding, so without further ado: GUARDS!
[Grant O'Brien and Rekha Shankar emerge, both wearing medieval costumes]
Sam: No, NO!
Brennan: SEIZE HIM!
Sam: NO!! - As it turns out, the Dropout cast have been planning and colluding for months to get back at Sam for all his game show shenanigans, including getting an entire castle and setting it up as an elaborate escape room based on all the episodes he's put them through. Capped off by the fact that Brennan is hosting, who has a real bone to pick with him for all the times he's been punished for doing his best.Rekha: You deserve this.
Grant: After everything you've done.
Sam: This is justice?
Grant: You made us popular and famous, and you're gonna get yours for it! - On the ride over, Sam is confronted with a video much like the attack ads in "Outvoted," taking him to task for all the torments he's put contestants through over the years. The video ends... with a "How much do you want to tip?" prompt... that he is too short to reach while restrained by a seatbelt, so he tips nothing. His height betrays him again later in the episode, when Sam attempts to leisurely lay back on a couch and put his feet up on a table... but he's not tall enough to, prompting the camera to quickly swerve away to focus on something else.Rekha: Zero? Really?
- Brennan gives a Jigsaw-esque monologue to Sam via TV saying that he devised something more sinister than he could ever come up with... a castle of completely normal and solvable challenges.Sam: With all the options at your disposal Brennan, you came up with something MERIT-BASED!?
Brennan: MERIT-BASED!!! [Evil Laugh] Try your hardest Sam. For once, trying will be the secret to winning! [laughs again]. - In the first challenge, Sam is accompanied by Knight Katie, AKA Katie Marovitch in a knight's suit of armor. It... clearly weighs a lot, causing Katie to awkwardly shuffle around the room and the visor falls over her face with a loud "Clank!" any time she moves even a smidge. Sam admits to feeling extra pressured to solve the puzzles quickly with this in mind. Cut to the party at the end, Katie's still wearing the knight's suit, and is seen playing with the visor while dancing.Knight Katie: This outfit is extremely heavy.
- Sam, once he figures out what's going on, is thrilled by the first room's game design, much to Brennan's chagrin.Sam: Oh my God, this is so clever! This is such good game design!
Brennan: Stop complimenting me and be terrified! You are in danger. You will never leave this castle.
Sam: At this point, why would I want to, you know what I mean?
Brennan: No, don't enjoy it, that ruins it for me! This is revenge! - The Path of Shame, a supplemental challenge invoked whenever Sam fails or gives up on a puzzle. During the entrance hall, Sam would have been made to sing some improvised verses (to which Sam says it would have been bad for everyone). For the challenge to find the Minotaur's Grail, it's the Lie Detector from the first episode of Game Changer, controlled by Sam's wife Elaine, and Sam has to answer extremely embarrassing questions about his life. As revealed when he fails the puzzle:
- Sam hired a photographer specifically to take a picture for his Wikipedia page.
- Spent over $50,000 on that year's Emmy FYC campaign.Sam: *laughs* Oh no. It wasn't nothing...
- Eats canned tuna and chickpeas for lunch every day, feeds bites of said lunch to his cat even though he shouldn't.
- Put a stretch limo on his parents' credit card without their permission for his high school prom with Elaine.
- Has written multiple poems about Beowulf (one of which he raps in lieu of naming the actual number).Sam: I can go on!
Brennan: Please don't! - The final question is whether or not he's ever missed an international flight, and while he does answer honestly (he and Elaine missed a flight to England because they were having sex), the answer Brennan had written down was of a different incident where he left his passport in his pants pocket and it got destroyed in the washing machine.Brennan: But rad that you boned, man! Congratulations!
Sam: (embarrassed) Yeah, yeah, yeah, cool...
Zac: They boned for a full day...?
Sam: Listen, we were like 18 years old. - The Behind the Scenes video reveals that if Sam had correctly identified the Minotaur's Grail, Zac planned to ask for the grail and "accidentally" drop it, forcing Sam to go through the Lie Detector anyway.
- In a twist on Knights and Knaves, Raph and Ross play one guard who always lies...and one who's always wrong.
- Elaine is chained up, and can only be freed by completing her Sam bingo board (as seen in the episode "Bingo"). She almost has a bingo, but just needs Sam to help her fill the last space... which says "Smacks butt with both hands and says 'Meow'."Sam: This is, uh...
Elaine: Yeah, I know. We're gonna bring this into couple's therapy for sure.- Elaine is styled as Princess Peach, but in a pink version of her usual 80s pantsuit, causing Sam to ask if Brennan is now Bowser in this analogy.Brennan: You know what Bowser's got on his head, don't ya Sam? The fuckin' horns!
- Elaine is styled as Princess Peach, but in a pink version of her usual 80s pantsuit, causing Sam to ask if Brennan is now Bowser in this analogy.
- Before reaching the Minotaur, Sam has to defeat Cerberus... AKA Vic, Izzy, and Jacob in one suit, here for revenge for all the Sam Says shenanigans.Izzy: You pissed us off so bad we fused into one person.
- At one point, each head of Cerberus gives Sam a command, and he has to carry out all three at the same time. The one that takes the cake is when Sam has to tell Elaine everything he loves about her... while Elaine has to hit him with a flyswatter each time he uses an adjective, and Sam has to moan every time he gets hit. Sam somehow manages to compliment Elaine without using a single adjective, and then decides to troll by repeatedly calling her sexy (and getting smacked) while grinning at Cerberus... but then gets a point docked anyway because he forgot to moan.
- The roles are then reversed, and Elaine gives a very passionate speech about what she loves about Sam, while barking every time he smacks her for using a verb.
- Jacob asks Sam to come forward and give Cerberus a hug, and Sam steps forward and does... before they dock a point because Cerberus didn't say for Sam to hug them.
- At the end of the challenge, it's revealed the points are real, and Sam steps forward to take his prize... only to stop as a dummy in a suit falls from the ceiling and hits the ground in front of him. Sam agrees that, yeah, it does suck to experience that. Cerberus takes another point away from Sam for his reaction.
- The climax of the episode is an epic scene of Sam confronting the Minotaur (Brennan in a minotaur costume), with both of them making epic speeches and ending with Sam heroically driving a sword through the Minotaur's heart. It's slightly undercut by the fact that Sam got to pick his sword's sound effects during the last game, meaning it keeps shouting a dubbed-over "Samalamadingdong!"
- Also not helping is the Minotaur's cry upon getting stabbed: "I buffed it! I shitted it!"
- The dying Minotaur also notes that a mug that Dropout once sold, featuring the complete text of Brennan's monologue from "Yes or No" with the emphasis on "I! Cannot! Win!!!" (broken pieces of which form the basis of the Minotaur's throne), continues to hold true.
- The episode closes out with Cody's Program (a band fronted by Game Changer prop designer Nico Romero) singing a rock cover of "Everybody do the Wenis", while everyone involved in the episode - and more Dropout cast members - have a party after the Minotaur is defeated. Sam gets to smack the Minotaur in the face with a whipped cream pie. He then takes over the mic to rap his Beowulf poem again.Sam: Can I just say, to be able to plan this entire thing behind my back, it's a testament to how far this show has come, that this can happen without me. And from the bottom of my heart, go FUCK yourselves!
- The Behind the Scenes video has Brennan candidly admit that he may have done something illegal to hide the production of the episode from Sam, up to and including cooking the company's books to hide the budget. In the actual interview with Variety that followed, Sam responded to a question about it with "I just do want to emphasize my company, my show, no permission."
Season 8
Don't Wake Standards & Practices
- This episode of Game Changer is based around the game Don't Wake Daddy. However, considering all the players are full-grown adults, instead they go with the next best thing: Standards & Practices.
- When a player goes too far with their prompt and wakes up Standards & Practices, not only do they have to go back to the very beginning, they also have to make an apology video, complete with the Cancel Cam: a cardboard frame that replicates the YouTube layout.
- Jeremy's first prompt is to make Sam uncomfortable. He immediately asks Sam how big his dick is, then proceeds to offer to show Sam his own dick - on camera - if he gets to see how big Sam's dick is.Lou: How the fuck long have we been playing this game?
- Lou carves a cucumber to resemble a penis, then sticks it in his open fly. He then leaps to the next step on the board, and the inevitable ensues. Complete with instant replay cam.
- Somehow, Ally ends up with a lot of copyright/intellectual property related prompts. This leads to shenanigans such as:
- A visual effect featuring Mickey Mouse coming out of a blood diamond "titties pierced" and spouting Nike's slogan "Just Do It," followed by the Death Star cracking open like an egg and singing "I'm lovin' it."
- Ally is able to dub over Steamboat Willie, which had just entered the public domain when the episode was filmed, and almost immediately derails into vaccine conspiracy theories.
- Ally is tasked with enacting a fanfic scene of their creation featuring toys of several copyright protected characters. They then proceed to reenact the January 6 insurrection with the assembled toys.
- Jeremy is prompted to hit on the producers (Paul Robalino, Ryan Creamer and Elaine Carroll) and only gets two points. While the aggressive flirting crossed the line, the lawyers all deducted points because Jeremy has bad game.
- Lou threatens Bluey, but his threats are so non-specific that the lawyers can't fault him too much. Plus, as Sam notes, Lou gets so many details about Bluey wrong (including not realizing that Bluey is a young girl and not the family's father), he's liable to be more in trouble with angry Bluey fans than with the lawyers.Lou: I swear to God, Bluey, is your wife named Yellow?
- One of Lou's prompts has him grab a random stranger (Phil) off the street to participate in the show.
- When a later prompt asks Lou to describe something they had to cut earlier in the episode, Lou then proceeds to tell them what happened when he met Phil. Let's just say Phil thought he had N-Word Privileges.
- As Lou is making the above claim, the lawyers are already judging him close to the danger zone... and then he escalates by claiming that all three lawyers had joined in with Phil, and two levers instantly slam into the red and wake Standards & Practices. (Alexis, a black woman, notably doesn't flip her lever into the red, presumably because it would be less damaging to her reputation.)
- While the lawyers are all inching their levers to bust as Lou unnecessarily defames a random man, Iya briefly pulls it back with a very confused face when Lou says he gave everyone permission to call him the N-Word.
- Ally remarks that it's crazy that they're making Lou apologize for this. Lou gives a non-apology for "speaking truth to power" and ends it by saying "RFK 2028."Devin: Is there a place we can send him that's before the start line?
- When a later prompt asks Lou to describe something they had to cut earlier in the episode, Lou then proceeds to tell them what happened when he met Phil. Let's just say Phil thought he had N-Word Privileges.
- Ally is asked to name people who are on the Epstein list
. They name Bill Gates, both Clintons, Donald Trump, Jeremy Culhane, and "Don't Wake Mommy".Devin: Ally, for some reason, chose people who have well-documented ties to Jeffrey Epstein, except for Jeremy.
Jeremy: (pointing to Devin) And that's my lawyer actually, and that's my lawyer. And that's my fucking lawyer. - "Like My Coffee" is brought back as "Like My Starbucks," with every completion of "I like my lovers like I like my..." involving a trademarked business. Lou, using Phil as his proxy, says that he likes his lovers like he likes his Chick-Fil-A: Closed on Sundays in keeping with their deep Christian values... which means they need to use the backdoor, also known as anal sex.
- Ally is tasked with telling fans why they should unsubscribe from Dropout. They claim that Dropout has been purchased by Palantir.
- Jeremy is tasked with designing a new logo for Coca-Cola. His drawing is of two guys snorting the soda like it's cocaine with the new slogan, "I'm on Coke".
- Jeremy is called to enact the start of a porn with Phoenix Askani, which ends in a spanking (and a knee to the groin), which causes Jeremy to declare that 9/11 was a inside job. It's later revealed that Phoenix hit him so hard his whole ass is red, and after the end of the episode, the last scene during the credits is of Phoenix spanking Jeremy again. Devin gives him a worse rating than the other lawyers due to having to see Jeremy's sweaty boxers.
- Phoenix hugs Jeremy goodbye, and as she leaves, tells Ally, "Say 'hi' to Grant for me." Never change, Phoenix.
- Immediately after this, Lou is asked to write some erotica about the lawyers, for which he's given a notebook and a quill pen. Devin tries to give himself a fake name (namely, that of Robert Shapiro, famously one of the defense lawyers for O. J. Simpson), which actively makes Lou go for him more.Sam: I've honestly never seen Lou so focused.
Lou: Well, 'cause I need to make sure to use the word "Devin" and "throbbing" in the same sentence multiple times.
Devin: Around here, I'm not LegalEagle. I'm Throbbin' Robin. - Lou's lawyer erotica manages to wake S&P and get him sent back to the start, and this time, his YouTube apology features the three lawyers standing not-quite-offscreen, glaring at him until he apologizes. Lou notes that having three people in suits standing behind him was genuinely unnerving.
- Lou refers to Jeremy as his legal counsel during his apology, and also asks the "viewers" to like and subscribe.
- Ally is asked to give a substance abuse PSA and quickly realizes the "prop" alcohol and marijuana they were given are real. They proceed to pack the bong, fill it with whiskey and light it, to the concern of the lawyers and eventually waking S&P.Devin: Are you covered to have an open flame in the studio?
Offscreen Producer: (audibly anxious) We're not!- A Freeze-Frame Bonus shows that the products in question include Cambridge Select whiskey ("Sam, where are you from?"), Buzz Wiser beer, and Game Fader marijuana. Even better, all the objects have labels on them, including a shot glass with 'shot glass' on it and a bong with 'bong' on it.
- When the lawyers give their judgement, Jeremy moves to stand next to them so he can give his "legal" opinion. When Sam asks if he has anything to add:Jeremy: Can you bust me so I can smoke some weed with my friends?
- Jeremy gets the prompt to "Start Beef." He immediately goes after Dropout, and its Superfan tier.Sam: That was today!
- Jeremy also realizes he has perhaps flown too close to the sun when he says, "I'm on fuckin' S — I can't even say that."
- The winner, Jeremy, gets edit approval over the episode, which is why it ends with Sam and lawyer Devin being sentence-mixed into giving him compliments.Sam: Jeremy- showed- me- it- and- it's- so much- bigger- than- mine.
Devin: Points added for- Jeremy's- well-documented- very- extraordinary- game.
Rulette 2
- Not only do the players get Sam in on the rules earlier than they did last time (encouraged by Sam himself), but rules very quickly get stuck on Paul Refereeno.
- Josh spends most of the episode wearing a BabyBjörn and carrying a "baby Sam", which eventually gets flipped to an AdultBjörn resulting in him having to carry the Sam dummy from the "Don't Flinch" instruction from "Sam Says 3." It's apparently heavier than it looks, leading to some...interesting positioning on Josh's part.
- Only adding to the positioning is that Josh got a “Plenty of Hip Action” rule, which leads to him being ribbed for seemingly fucking the mannequin.
- Prior to this, Josh got the "As a Sexy Baby" rule, which he immediately milked to its full extent, and even insisted on keeping it later on, much to the others' consternation.Sam: I have some criticism for my own game design.
- Demi quickly becomes the resident tattletale.
- The cast had an hour before filming, and used it to go go-karting, which Demi says is why they're all acting so deranged and charged up.
- One of Demi’s prompts is to name seven prime numbers in 60 seconds. Demi rapidly begins counting straight up from one (every so often jumping a few tens), easily hitting well over seven primes in addition to the composites, which don’t count against him. Sam immediately berates himself for not catching that loophole. Paul comes out blowing his whistle to note that Demi could have stopped at 17*.
- Anna gaining the "Say "Boop" Upon Touch" rule quickly becomes her undoing, as it doesn't specifically count her touching things, but anyone touching another person. Demi proceeds to cause rule breaks by touching others.
- The first time Demi does this, he dramatically gets in Anna's face as he notes she "didn't say boop one goddamned time!" Anna proceeds to mime punching Demi, remembering the "boop," and Demi on cue falls to the ground.
- Sam then gives Demi the option to shred the rule as he had originally intended, or to put it on Anna.Josh: (eerily calm) Oh, that would make wonderful television...
- Demi opts to place his rule to curtsy on Anna, slapping it onto her chest and tricking her yet again:Anna: (vaguely pained) My boob...Demi: And I would also like to point out again, she-Anna: NO!!! (starts chasing Demi around the studio) I'LL KILL YOU!!!
- By the end of it, Anna has lost three points and gained three new rules. She goes from attacking Demi (yelling "boop" whenever she touches him) to attempting to run away from the studio!Anna: (starts running around the set) I’m quitting!
Josh: Get her! Get her!
Anna: I fucking quit! I fucking quit! (goes through an exit door) - Anna's frustration only continues to mount throughout the game, at one point prompting her to try escape by crawling under the wheel.
- When the rule gets transferred to Demi, he begins suffering the same problems.
- Anna gets the prompt "Name 8 movies starting with 'B.'" She quickly goes into panic mode, as a shot of the team's group chat shows that she really didn't want to do anything related to naming movies. Josh and Demi try to help her out... but because Josh has the "only speak monosyllabically" rule, he can only repeatedly shout "BUM! BLE! BEE!" in a slow, stilted matter that just fans the flames of Anna's anxiety.
- Josh successfully fulfils a prompt... and doesn't want to lose any of his rules, even though Anna and Demi are practically begging him to lose the sexy baby rule.
- Demi lands on the modifier "Australia", which flips everybody's rules and requires everyone to speak in an Australian accent. These flips include:
- As mentioned above, Josh's BabyBjörn becoming an AdultBjörn.
- Anna's Elizabethan ruff changing to a dog cone.
- The "sexy baby" voice now becoming a sycophantic LLM.
- The transatlantic accent becoming a "vaguely European accent" which overrides the Australian accent requirement (Anna mostly does the same voice she used for Princess Emily, while Sam ends up talking like Borat).
- Directing a single PA instead of the camera.
- Spinning the wheel in the opposite direction.
- The "SPIN THAT WHEEL" graphic being displayed upside down and with Australia-themed flourishes and voiceover.
- At some point in the proceedings, the “End every sentence with a famous name” tag gets flipped to “End every sentence with a non-famous name.” After getting dinged for a rule violation, Anna decides to end a sentence with “Paul Robalino.”
- Josh hits a Heroic BSoD from all the rules he has to follow, the weight of the AdultBjörn, and the tightness of the velcro suit he has to wear.Josh: I wanna go home, bitch! I said I wanna go home, bitch...I wanna fucking go home so bad! I'm fucking DYING here, mate! I've done the hula hoop, I've worn a fucking baby, this motherfucker weighs 855 pounds, I've lost my voice, my dick hurts - we went go-karting earlier! I'm forty-two! I'm FORTY-TWO, mate! Have I not been doing enough tongue action, you sexy fucking babies?! I've got maybe five minutes left of my life! I don't think they even do this in the Tough Mudder!Josh: WHAT THE FUCK!
- Right at the end of the game, once he's stuck with "Say "Cooties" Upon Touch", Demi and Anna start piling rules onto Sam, so he ends up with half a dozen extra rules in one minute. Sam is only spared thanks to the game ending almost immediately after.Sam: Fuck me. Fuck my life.
Night Shift
- Much like "Bingo," the episode hinges around multiple casts of contestants (only one of whom was advertised): Rekha, Siobhan, and Lily as the day shift, and Katie, Grant, and Raph as the night shift. Their goal? Complete tasks without the night shift knowing what the task is. This frequently leads to the night shift directly undoing the day shift's work from the jump.
- On the night shift's second time out on the first task, Sam cheekily tells Raph to "get sorting," cluing Raph in to the fact that they are indeed supposed to be sorting, although he still doesn't technically know how. Doesn't stop Raph from celebrating.Raph: YOU FUCKED UP!!!!
- Paul Refereeno gets his own counterpart in this episode: Paul Foremanlino, complete with safety vest.
- The Day Shift decides that Paul Foremanlino is straight, married to Carmen Electra, and sexually harassing all of them.Siobhan: Paul sent me a text that said "You really want to get this promotion?" followed by 18 eggplant emojis.
- The Day Shift decides that Paul Foremanlino is straight, married to Carmen Electra, and sexually harassing all of them.
- The second round introduces Chris Grace as the shady proprietor of the company store, who sells items that cost the day shift's time. Grant buys a newspaper, much to Siobhan's infuriation when she is told that she has a minute less because of it. She promptly uses it to interfere with Lily's attempts to remove the rubber bands from her watermelon.
- Katie buys a lot of useless items on impulse, including a Cone of Shame and a pair of oversized boxing gloves. The Gilligan Cut to Rekha wearing them while trying to inflate the balloons, and the look of stunned silence when her time is cut short, is priceless.
- One of the items available for purchase is a snow globe from Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- Chris will occasionally call out to the night shift, trying to get them to buy something.Chris: Raphael, you don't want a dog cone?
Raph: I swear to God, I will kill you.
Chris: Raphael, of all people, against purchasing things. What if I had a bunch of takeout sushi over here?
Raph: THAT WAS A LOW BLOW!
- Rekha starts the episode cheerfully completing her assigned tasks, until she finds out that the piñata that comes with the balloons is purely decoration and can't be broken. She then, along with Siobhan and Lily, threatens to beat Sam with the piñata stick.
- Katie complains that her balloons are broken because air keeps coming out of them, not realising she had to tie them.Sam: Katie, we need to talk about balloons...
- One task involves sorting mint and wasabi Oreos, where the color of the filling doesn't match the flavor. Upon getting messages telling them such, cue Grant and Raph taking a bite and getting wasabi. Katie proceeds to point out they can just smell the darn things.Raph: You're not gonna make us taste all of these.
Sam: (looks at the camera in silence while making a deadpan face)
Raph: OH MY FUCKING GOD! (eats one) (screams in agony)- Siobhan gets so annoyed with Grant sorting the Oreos by color instead of flavor that she uses the Oreo frosting to write a message telling him what to do.
- Partway through the game, Demi appears as the Mysterious Man, who will answer yes or no questions for time. Grant immediately asks a question clarifying that it is yes or no questions. Demi promptly answers "yes" and moves on, upon which Grant realizes he wasted his question on nothing.
- Grant later wastes another question by asking Demi if he knows why something in the studio is a certain way. Chris mutters a second-hand embarassed "Oh nooo..." before Demi smirks, answers "yes" and leaves.
- One of the later tasks is to not acknowledge Ron Perlman. Katie proves to be the toughest nut for Ron to crack, but Raph on the other hand can't ignore him on principle.
- Ron Perlman is also extremely game to try to get the players to acknowledge him, with tactics such as walking up to Katie and asking, "So, you ever kidnap someone?"
- The final task is to give three volunteers a haircut. Demi, who has been hanging around heckling the night shift (and trying to get them to spend time on his questions) has this zinger:Demi: Watching Raph give a haircut is like when you go to a tattoo parlor and the guy has no tattoos. (Raph cracks up)
- Rekha asks her haircut volunteer what she does for a living, and she states that she's an archaeology and anthropology student.Rekha: I wrote for an anthropology-related television show!
Siobhan: (angrily) Well I have an archaeology degree!
Lily: Okay, well, I have bones! - When the first shift ends Siobhan warns that she will raise all hell if her replacement is Grant, and for most of the game complains when her night shift counterpart, who is indeed Grant, didn't understand the tasks left for them. However it all works out, as she and Grant end up winning and when the shifts finally meet, she declares that she never doubted him for a second.
Kangaroo Court
- Vic comments at the beginning of the episode that they always expected to see Sam in court one day, but not at the judge's bench.
- We get another Paul Referrino job pun with Paul Robailiffo.
- Aabria forgets to make a joke during her defense, and justifies it by telling the jury she's 8 weeks pregnant and just finished throwing up.
- One of the challenges involved making the most surprising finger painting.
- Brennan's painting is simply writing out "Sam is in the Epstein Files". Alexis remarks that this doesn't surprise her at all.
- Vic decides to use anything but their fingers to paint including their nose, ear, belly, and feet (which are blurred at their request). However, the jury ends up disqualifying them because it wasn't a finger painting.
- The jury couldn't decide whether or not Aabria's painting says "I'm trying my best" or "I'm trimming my bush".
- One challenge involves the players trying to hit a target in as few attempts as possible, and if they succeed, they're covered in paint (actually blue pudding) and feathers. Vic and Aabria go first, both get covered in gunk, and offer Brennan a hug for luck before it's his turn. Brennan accepts... and then passes on the challenge.
- Several factors contributed to Brennan convincing the jury that he actually won: the first being the on-screen prompt changing to "Don't Get Dunked", the second being Vic getting uncomfortably close to the jury, inexplicably spinning a story about how the challenge was a donut-eating contest sponsored by Dunkin, with no explanation for why they're covered in paint and feathers, and getting Ash and Nico to dunk them again.
- The "hotdog eating contest", where a table full of hotdog remnants is placed in the middle, and Kevi the court stenographer (who previously competed against Ele in a task on One and Done) transcribes everything they say for the duration of the challenge. Vic immediately starts yelling at Brennan for picking her up and preventing both of them from eating the hotdogs, while Aabria happily narrates devouring all three contestants' hotdogs (which she specifies are actually veggie-dogs and safe for her baby) because she's eating for two. Brennan then runs to the table and starts actually eating a hotdog, prompting Vic to start chasing him and Aabria to smear her paint-covered hands all over the hotdogs still on the table.
- During the defense portion, Tao asks if he can have one of the hot dogs from the table, to the disgust of the other jurors.
- Part of Brennan's argument is presenting a handful of chewed-up hotdog, which grosses out the jury.
Count the Rice
- Sam introduces the episode with "one of my all-time favorite games" in Game Changer history...and it's just counting grains of rice.
- The "punishment" for losing is going backstage to "Loser's Island", a tiki bar-style room with non-alcoholic cocktails and a massage chair. Ify, the first out and a known Competition Freak, muses that "maybe it was fun to lose first".
- After a certain point the players get fed up with the infinite loop of "Count the Rice", realizing that they need to fulfill the win condition but not how to, so they start writing random bullshit on their answer boards.Jiavani: I said "F!" I said "F" cuz I dunno how to draw a this [flips the camera off] but I wanted to draw this! What're you gonna do with that? As I say, fuck the man! [kicks a rice box away] What happens if I don't put down a fuckin' number!? [Smash Cut to Jiavani being sent to room 2]
- The rice counting challenges get exacerbated in a number of ways, which include a bag with rice mixed with oats (that shouldn't be counted), Ash and Nico running out to cause an "earthquake" that shakes the table midcount, and having Elaine Carroll's voice pipe in to say random numbers, thus causing the contestants to mix up their counts. At one point, with Jiavani as the only contestant, the crew removes the tablecloth from the table... only to reveal a second tablecloth full of printed grains of rice.
- It soon becomes clear that players are expected to lose each minigame, reach the final room to learn the win condition, then work their way back up to claim victory. Jiavani doesn't realise this for a while, though, and spends most of the game winning Room 2, returning to the main stage, then getting sent back to Room 2 because she is the only player. Each time she comes back with a new drink, and eventually starts taking props with her too.
- The behind the scenes reveals that Jiavani eventually made it to Room 6 and upon entering, under the impression that the challenge had a time limit, grabbed a column while screaming that she had to lose. She did this for some time before the cast member inside informed her the challenge wasn't timed. She wasn't the only one, either.
- One of the minigames is trying to find Grant in a room full of doppelgangers, who all chant in unison under a hellish red light.Grants O'Brien: HI FRIEND. YOU HAVE TEN SECONDS TO FIND GRANT.
- The Grants chanting can be heard muffled throughout various challenges.
- Despite initially being intensely creepy in an almost Twin Peaks-style of Surreal Horror, much of the menace quickly deflates when after each successful encounter, the Grants all have honest moments to themselves, shuffling around, and laughing at contestants' jokes. Catherine has no qualms from the get-go — during her first encounter, she delightedly declares "This is so fun!" during their countdown.
- During one of the shuffles, the real Grant discusses how Sam loves using Game Changer episodes as backdoor pilots, and that he sees potential in spinning off "Find Grant".
- During the filming of the episode, Isaac Ruth posted what exactly
accommodating the Grants looked like to someone who wasn't in the actual episode. Specifically, while they were all getting lunch.Isaac: Perfectly normal, perfectly normal, perfectly normal, (pans over to the rest of the line, revealing the Grant horde) nightmare, nightmare, nightmare, it's a nightmare, nightmare, nightmare, nightmare.
- The minigame in Room 3 (Pic Pong) requires two contestants, so when Demi ends up in there alone with Jacquis (the host of the minigame), Demi tries to get him to join.Demi: So I'm just in here alone?Jacquis: You're in here alone?Demi: Why don't you get over here, play with me!Jacquis: No...Demi: Come on, for old times sakes. Remember when we used to play Pic Pong?Jacquis: I do remember that! We used to play Pic Pong all the time!Demi: All the time. It was me, you, Johnny.Jacquis: Man, I miss Johnny. How's Johnny?Demi: Not good.Jacquis: He passed away?Demi: Pic Pong got him.
- Jacquis isn't above trolling the players if they're deliberately taking too long, accepting answers that blatantly don't match the image on the screen just to move things along.
- After a certain point every single contestant is occupied with the backstage minigames, meaning that the main stage with the "Count the Rice" game is completely empty and no one is playing it. The camera keeps awkwardly cutting back to Sam milling around with nothing to do as he waits for someone to come back.Sam: [quietly, to himself] Everybody do the Weenis! The Weenis is a dance! Everybody is a genius, who knows it in advance!
- Because Room 8 requires two players to proceed, anyone who reaches it but doesn't end up with the box with the winning condition ends up waiting. Poor Ify ends up waiting a while until Ana comes in, followed by Ana getting stuck in Room 8 for over an hour.
- Demi and Ify have a great time with the Grants. Ify strangles the correct Grant and Demi jumps into his arms.Demi: You think it's my first time trying to survive in a room full of white men?!
- On another attempt in the Grant Room, Ify remarks that it's strange he can recognize the back of Grant's head. Grant replies, "People say that to me all the time."
- Demi manages to get to the end and returns on the main stage screaming and threatening Sam to show him the rice. He guesses 412, only to end up losing another round to Hannah (who has not been to Room 8 and thus does not know the win condition) guessing 420 as a joke, sending him into a Heroic BSoD.Demi: I'll kill you, Sam!
- As the episode’s recurring chant happens around him, Demi is fully headdesking in despair. When he comes back up, a big patch of rice has stuck to his forehead.
- What's worse was that Ify comes in soon after and wins the game. As Sam points out in the Behind the Scenes, Demi lost by eight grains of rice.
Noise Some Makes
- Sam doing the entire Make Some Noise intro backwards sets the tone.
- Lily gets right to the action:Sam: They're all here to...Lily: ...kill Sam Reich?
- Sam pairs up Lily and Zac, leading to everyone ribbing him for putting the two Asian performers together (Sam also admits that he Did Not Think This Through when it came to the team pairings). Then the first round ends with the losing team punished by having to wear oven mitts...Lily: First they bind our feet, then they bind our hands.
Brennan: Yeah... sort of a no-win scenario you cooked up here, Sam.- Lily asks their assigned artist Lisa (an extremely white woman) if she's also Asian. She's not, but Kiana, sitting next to her is.
- The initial premise of the game is simple enough; it's Make Some Noise, but the boys are paired with a contestant who has to guess their prompt. Another level is added when three artists come in and have to draw their prompts. But then, after bringing in a punishment prop, PA Kaylin Mahoney is introduced as a contestant without any form of preparation or knowledge; describing the artists' work to the Noise Boys. And then the roles start rotating...
- Brennan is forced to wear a nose plug, which he tries to put into his nose. When he's informed that it actually goes over his nose, he immediately gets pissed off about it.Brennan: A plug goes in! I think we're all pretty clear on what a plug is. In a game so concerned with accuracy, Mr. Reich! I was handed a thing called a plug, and I was given the body part that it goes in! I put the plug in the body part! I DON'T THINK I'M FUCKING CRAAAAZY!
Zac: (into his phone) Yeah, come now. He's not doing good.- Immediately after, the groups rotate by one, with the guessers going to the easels, the artists going to the podium, Kaitlyn going to the guessers' chairs, and the Noise Boys having to cram themselves into the phone booth. Josh makes a crack about "What if we fart in there?!" - and Brennan points out that it would be no problem for him and his new noseplug!
- The sheer chain of chaos that mangles the "Manic Pixie Dream Grannie" prompt. Not only is Jess forced to draw on a tiny canvas, not only are all three of the Noise Boys crammed into a single phone booth and making constant jokes about how they're all farting in there, but when Kiana picks up the phone, Josh barely manages to say the word "nerd" before he breaks, and the rest of his ten seconds is filled with nothing but raucous Corpsing from all three Noise Boys. Kaylin ends up guessing "Nerd Butt Stuff", because she doesn't know what else could have made them laugh that hard.Josh: Ten seconds? Easy peasy lemon squ-[sees the drawing] HEY WHAT THE FU-[Sam closes phone booth door]
- When Kaylin has finished drawing for the purple team, Kiana, Lisa and Caldwell spontaneously opt to play as either goblins or zombies in the phone booth, ghoulishly calling for art while their hands grasp past the door. Sam is both taken aback and laughing as he hands the piece to them.
- Josh, stationed in the artists' corner, is wearing googly-eyed glasses, drawing on a tiny notepad with a giant pencil. The entire minute he spends drawing, all he says is an exhausted "Ohhhh fuck" over and over and over.
- Doubles as Awesome: one of the last prompts of the game - "The Evolution of Man Diagram But Each Step Leans Further and Further Back Into Limbo" - goes to the team of Zac, Lily and Lisa with Kaylin translating the image to Zac, who is wearing noise canceling headphones playing "Smooth" by Santana. However, despite these handicaps, they are miraculously able to communicate the prompt to Lily almost perfectly, with Lily herself positing apropos of nothing that it is a "metaphor for evolution", netting them 5 out of 5 points.
Earwigs
- Everyone takes advantage of the fact that they're wearing giant 18th-Century wigs to put on their best fop accents...except for Izzy who speaks in a Cockney accent instead.
- When the players are told to dance freestyle, Ross starts imitating the infamous moves of Renata Bliss, freestyle dance teacher.
