Solo Mio (Film)

Solo Mio is a 2026 Rom Com written by and starring Kevin James, and featuring Alyson Hannigan, Kim Coates, and Jonathan Roumie. Matt Taylor (James) is getting married to Heather in Italy. Except, she leaves him at the altar. And the hotel won't let him get a refund on his honeymoon package. And so, Matt doggedly navigates single life on a couples tour with the help of two other married couples on the tour, and cafe owner Gia, who's hiding some secrets of her own.

This film exhibits the following tropes:

  • Alone Among the Couples: Matt spends the first day of the honeymoon tour completly alone while all the other participants of the tour are - naturally - newly married couples. The other couples take notice, of course. It changes when Matt starts to spend his time with Gia.
  • As Himself: Andrea Bocelli is Gia's uncle.
  • "Dear John" Letter: Heather leaves one for Matt. The audience gets several brief glimpses of it, but few details. It turns out that Gia helped Heather write it, not knowing it was for Matt until he shows it to her.
  • Divorce Is Temporary: Julian and Meghan are on their third honeymoon together. In the Closing Credits, he's proposing for a fourth time.
  • Gratuitous Italian: It's right there in the title, as it's supposed to be a pun on "O sole mio", but actually means "only mine" - Matt gets called out on this by Gia.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Gia is a free-spirited barista working in Rome that charms Matt and helps him getting over being left on the altar and to overcome his insecurities. It's not really clear what exactly Gia sees in him. They end up married regardless.
  • Not That Kind of Doctor: Inverted. Neil introduces himself as a therapist to the group. But when he at one point attempts to settle a dispute by Matt and Julian, Julian points out that Neil actually is a physiotherapist.
  • Runaway Bride: Heather runs away at the moment she was supposed to enter and process down the aisle. This kicks off the plot. Near the end of the film, she meets with Matt again and part amicably.
  • Scenery Porn: The movie features a lot of beautiful shots of Rome and the Toskana. And the characters make always sure to remind you just how beautiful the landsmarks are.
  • Second Love: Matt and Gia end up being that for each other when their previous relationships with Heather and Vincenzo turn out to be not as perfect as they thought.
  • Title Drop: Matt tries to describe his situation of being alone to Gia as "Solo Mio". She points out that it actually means "only mine".
