    General Fic

Freaky Thursday by Carly

  • Recommended by: WaddSpoiley
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Slight Jeff/Annie
  • Summary: The group willingly swaps personalities for a day — what could possibly go wrong?
  • Comments: A terrific fanfic. The characterization is spot-on, the jokes are hilarious, the writing is proficient — it reads *exactly* like an episode of the TV show.
    • Seconded. I'm usually very skeptical of claims that something is "spot-on," but I could almost hear the characters saying the lines as I read them. If you want something Original Flavor, this is a must-read.

Night of The Living Abed by buffyaddict13

  • Recommended by: TheQuixoticStarChaser, caughtbluehanded
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: Abed discovers the reason he's always been different. Plus: fish stick jenga, inappropriate Pierceness, zombiehood and giant cookies!
  • Comments: This is insanely perfect for all lovers of Abed. All the characters read EXACTLY like they do on the show, and there are subtle crossovers with "Firefly" and other shows. There is angst involving mental health issues but also a wealth of quick wit, charm, and sweetness.

22 Short Fics About Abed Nadir by Margo_Kim

  • Recommended by: caughtbluehanded
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: Inspired by 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould and the portraits of Despair in Sandman: Endless Nights. Twenty-two views of Abed's life from childhood memories to his current course load.
  • Comments: A brilliant character study of Abed. Funny, adorable, insightful, sometimes heartbreaking, and of course, thoroughly meta.

sunlight on a broken column by kbaycolt

  • Recommended by: superinsaneandawesome
  • Status: Complete
  • Summary: It all happened so fast. Annie tripping, the gun firing. Pierce, collapsing with a pained wail, blood splattering across Shirley's apron. The way the flames billowed like fog across the wooden floorboards.
All because Abed wasn't fast enough. Abed didn't catch the die.

The Darkest Timeline, in the immediate aftermath.
  • Comments: A somewhat dark fic taking place in the darkest timeline. Made me cry a lot, Beautifully written.

Everybody Knows by jeffwik (Portioncontrol)

  • Recommended by: Raj_Sound
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Jeff/Annie
  • Summary: When he learns Annie won't be returning to Greendale in the fall after all, Jeff takes dramatic steps in an attempt to move on. (Spoiler alert: it doesn't work.)
  • Tags: Post-Finale
  • Comments: This story really has everything, and in great balance — emotional arcs for the characters individually, relationship arc, plot, strong characterization, humour, angst, subplots... And without beaning me over the head with the same relationship conversation and manufactured angst and misunderstandings — a pet peeve of mine. They cover similar ground but each instance is motivated by where they're at within an organic development. I particularly LOVED the payout of Annie's texts to Jeff's old number being sent to his new number. It was played deftly: not melodramatic in the least, it caused some pain but highlighted how far they'd come that a) Jeff didn't let it destroy him and trusted Annie, and b) they calmly talked it through and there are no secrets in the integrated relationship.

Five Years Later by Amrywiol

  • Recommended by: Raj_Sound
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Jeff/Annie
  • Summary: It's been eleven years since he met her, five years since they last kissed, and four and a half years since the last time he heard from her, and Jeff Winger thought he'd moved on. Then a familiar figure walked into a room.
  • Tags: Friendship, Romance, Angst, Future Fic, Major Character Injury
  • Comments: Even as I start typing, I know for a fact that this will be the longest comment/review I’ve left (or likely will ever leave) on any fanfiction website, ever. I apologize for that.

Something More - The Jeff and Annie Community Epilogue by AlmightyMirage

  • Recommended by: Raj_Sound
  • Status: In Progress
  • Pairing(s): Jeff/Annie
  • Summary: The journey from the time of Annie's departure to D.C. and to the beginning stages of a loving relationship between Jeff and Annie.
  • Tags: Angst, Angst with a Happy Ending, Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms, Drinking, Drinking to Cope, Hurt/Comfort, Post Season 6, Developing Relationship, Fluff and Angst, Fluff, Angst, Romance, Slow Romance, Domestic Fluff
  • Comments: This was very touching and sweet. I love how open they are with their feelings finally. FINALLY! You did a great job of alternating the sweet and sappy moments with sultry ones, making it very clear that even while they have confessed their feelings there is still much to be done about their passion. If you get my drift ;)

Screenwriting for Dummies by irisbleufic

  • Recommended by: Kelliannm, caughtbluehanded
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Troy/Abed (with Jeff/Annie and Britta/Rick [a.k.a. Subway] as secondaries)
  • Summary: An alternate Season 4 that picks up immediately after the events of 4x01. The series is now complete, although the author has stated intent to write an epilogue at some point in the very near future. For now, it stands at 70,000 words.
  • Comments: I saw ''one reviewer on LJ call this the Season 4 we would have gotten if the show had been picked up by HBO and Showtime (and if mainstream sitcoms weren't so averse to letting bromance evolve into romance). Not only is each story in the series about the length of an actual episode, but they even have proper tag endings. I've never seen Troy and Abed so in-character, and this goes for the entire cast; the quirky world of Greendale Community College comes alive right down to background details and secondary characters.
    • Seconded. If you read just one Community fic, make it this one. -caughtbluehanded

But I Don't Know Nothing 'Bout Love by littledust

  • Recommended by: WhimsicalCircles
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Troy/Abed
  • Summary: In which Troy decides what he wants to be when he grows up, battles the ice cube of sadness, bakes some cookies, and figures some things out about feelings.
  • Comments: This is such a sweet, funny, good-natured, and overall delightful (in that very Community-like way) read that I can't help but urge everyone to give it a look whether they ship Troy/Abed or not. Though Troy and Abed are obviously the main features, the entire study group is present in some form throughout the story, and written so true to character that you can hear their voices as you read. Lots of funny little one-liners, and a seamless integration of deeper ideas about adulthood and responsibility into the developing relationship.

First Aid 101 by FaelwenSlashbringer

  • Recommended by: AndreaRavenscroft
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Troy/Abed
  • Summary: Abed gets his shoulder dislocated and has to walk Troy through first-aid procedures. Shameless fluff!
  • Comments: This is a fanfic I wrote. It contains Troy/Abed. No sex scenes, but a very cute kiss. I'm rather impressed with it myself. Although I've checked it over a couple million times, it never gets old!

nothing to say but the things i know by cereal

  • Recommended by: Liat
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Jeff/Britta
  • Summary: Britta's apartment gets rats; she and Jeff end up as roommates.
  • Comments: This is overall wonderful. The author has a good grasp on every single character. When the rest of the study group appears, they're written well and add to the story, but it's truly the characterization of Jeff and Britta that not only stays true to how they are on the show, but adds depth. The writing is funny , and the chemistry between them is written perfectly.
  • Seconded by Cettin. This is absolutely brilliant. The characterization is spot-fucking-on, and the chemistry's wonderful.

Free Counseling by JD Phoenix

  • Recommended by: LargoQuagmire
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Jeff/Brita
  • Summary: Jeff and Britta's reactions to the events of 'Modern Warfare'... as recorded by Professor Ian Duncan.
  • Comments: Having Professor Duncan narrate a what-if scenario is one of the best ideas I've seen played out in Community fic, and the story itself is hysterical. It also helps that Prof. Duncan's characterization is spot-on.

Un-needed Metaphors by Preromantics

  • Recommended by: Fai-Mommy
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Troy/Abed
  • Summary: Wherein metaphors need to be changed, Abed has trouble thinking right when Troy is touching him, Abed takes a punch, and there are references to Spiderman.
  • Comments: There are some bits of characterization that don't quite ring true to me, but overall I think its characterization is very solid. Best of all is how the author maps out Abed's thought processes in a way that seemed completely believable to me, showing Abed as not slow or one dimensional as usually happens to CloudCuckooLanders in fic, but just...really weird. The fic also strikes a lovely balance between Troy's geekiness and normal-guy-ness.

Advanced Ambulatory Ichthyology by gyzym

  • Recommended by: tgjer, caughtbluehanded
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Troy/Abed, with a side of Jeff/Annie and Britta/Subway
  • Summary: In which Troy has a revelation, the Toyota Agony gets a lot of mileage, drama is resolved, Evil Troy makes an appearance, the Air Conditioning cult gets excited, and Annie's Boobs are immortalized on a pinball machine.
  • Comments: Picks up a few months after the end of Season 3, with pretty spectacular reference to all the canon. Beautifully in-character, and so cute it melted my brain.

Tangled by thingswithwings

  • Recommended by: caughtbluehanded
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Annie/Abed and Troy/Abed
  • Summary: "Do you want me to go down on you?" Abed asks, one afternoon, when they're watching My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
  • Tags: Oral sex, polyamory
  • Comments: A surprisingly sweet fic that explores Annie's and Troy's evolving relationships with Abed. The voices are spot-on, everyone's characterization rings true, and the sex scenes are amazing.

Abnormal Psychology and Domestic Terrorism by Annakovsky

  • Recommended by: caughtbluehanded
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Troy/Abed
  • Summary: The one where it turns out Abed's been accidentally reenacting Fight Club this whole time.
  • Comments: This fic is just flat-out brilliant. I really can't say much more than that.

Shipper On Deck by Veldritch

  • Recommended by: caughtbluehanded
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Annie/Jeff, Britta/Subway
  • Summary: Abed and Rachel team up to try to solve the group's tangled romantic lives. This results in hook ups, break ups, an intervention, a divorce, a marriage, and ultimately a giant robot battle.
  • Comments: An alternate version of Season 5 that picks up soon after Troy leaves (we get updates of his progress around the world in The Tag of each chapter). The author is clearly a reader of This Very Wiki, as the titles of all the chapters (and the fic itself) are all the names of various tropes and, of course, Abed and Rachel do a lot of Conversational Troping. Fun, funny and full of hijinks and adventures in friendship.

Pins in the Map by wright-or-wrong

  • Recommended by: cosmotk
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Jeff/Annie
  • Summary: He takes a sip because it's his damn graduation after all. He should be celebrating. Post-Advanced Introduction to Finality.
  • Tags: Romance, Rated M
  • Comments: An amazing, long (31 Chapters), fic about Annie and Jeff getting together immediately following season 4. The characterizations are spot-on and it really paints a very vivid picture of the show.

Intro to Romantic Inevitablity by nicoleaf

  • Recommended by: fightmeteddyroosevelt
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Troy/Abed, Troy/Britta
  • Summary: That's the thing with Troy and Abed, no matter how much you love one of them, they will always love each other more.
  • Comments: A short introspective piece from Britta's perspective exploring sexuality, her relationship with Troy, and Troy's relationship with Abed. Plus some good lines that have stuck with me.

Lawnmower Maintenance and Postnatal Care Redux by Whistlesnbells

  • Recommended by: superinsaneandawesome
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Britta/Annie
  • Summary: Did it never occur to anyone that Britta probably had a good reason to push her parents away?
  • Comments: A nice, short fic that actually takes Britta seriously(which that episode didn't). Her and Annie's dynamic is so cute and realistic. Angsty but heartwarming.

    Crossover Fics

Tea Time and Time Lords: A Primer by blithers

  • Recommended by: Moberemk, Doctor Nemesis, caughtbluehanded
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover with: Doctor Who
  • Summary: The study group travels through time and space.
  • Comments: The group becomes the Tenth Doctor's new companions. This can only end hilariously for all.
    • Seconded by Doctor Nemesis: It's beautifully done, everyone's perfectly in character and it's one of those genius ideas you can't believe no one else has had yet. And without wanting to spoil anything, it even fits in paintball! Paintball!
    • Doctor Nemesis again: this fic now has a sequel by another author: ''Sociological Factors in Modern Genocidal Psychopathy (Complete) by Palgrave. This time, there's Daleks...

Dallased (Intro to Dream Interpretation 101 by lorax

  • Recommended by: Astrakhan
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover with: Firefly, The Twilight Saga, Harry Potter, Beauty and the Beast and The Avengers
  • Summary: Abed's Inspector Spacetime dream makes the others insert themselves into other works, sometimes in... unusual ways.
  • Comments: Not only are the characters perfectly written, but the dream sequences play with the group dynamics (and genders) hilariously. It's worth reading for the Black Rider as Zoe in the Firefly pastiche alone.

Recruitment Practices by thingswithwings

  • Recommended by: caughtbluehanded
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover with: Welcome to Night Vale
  • Pairing(s): Annie/Abed/Troy (mentioned)
  • Summary: Cecil interviews Annie, Abed and Troy for positions with Night Vale Community Radio. Minor bloodletting, mentions of zombie gladiators.
  • Comments: This fic is everything I could want from a crossover between these two shows. The weirdness of Abed, Troy and Annie is a perfect fit for the weirdness of Night Vale. And Cecil's views of the trio are hilarious and totally in-character.
