Friends to the end.

Partners in Time is a one-shot, self-insert fanfic written by gelefant.

The story's based on Aladdin and the Adventure of All Time, with Jermaine (the author) in place of Aladdin himself.

Artwork for the fanfic can be found here.

Tropes:

  • Adapted Out: Aladdin himself is absent.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Jermaine has a long history of being bullied due to being quiet, shy, and not always having the same interests as his classmates.
  • Beautiful Singing Voice: During Paige's song about her love for history and reading, Jermaine says she has the most beautiful voice. She blushes before thanking him.
  • Clock of Power: The black-and-green wristwatch Jermaine buys allows him to both travel great distances and through time.
  • Commonality Connection: Jermaine and Paige bond over their shared passion for fantasy, history, and reading. They also bond over their shared history of being bullied.
  • Death Glare: Jermaine glares and growls at the townsfolk who bully Paige to make them back off. Three weeks later, the townspeople give Jermaine and Paige very dirty looks while the two children are out for another leisurely stroll through town.
  • End of the Ice Age: After Jermaine and Paige have their fill of prehistoric reptiles, they travel to the last ice age during the Late Pleistocene Epoch. As they roam around, they encounter a herd of woolly mammoths and a herd of woolly rhinos. When the two children travel to the southern warmer climates, they encounter giant ground sloths and saber-toothed cats. Additionally, the two kids encounter ancient humans in both climates, but the kids keep their distance from them for obvious reasons.
  • Gadget Watches: The black-and-green wristwatch Jermaine buys allows him to both travel great distances and through time.
  • Luminescent Blush: During the first half of the story, Paige blushes before thanking Jermaine after he says she has a Beautiful Singing Voice during her song about her love for history and reading. She blushes again after he says he loves the way she lights up when she talks about her passions when she rattles off fun facts and interesting bits of trivia during their Time Travel adventures. At the end of the story, he blushes intensely when she kisses him on the cheek as a further show of appreciation for him being her friend, buying her the necklace she wanted, and hanging out with her.
  • Magical Accessory: The black-and-gold necklace Jermaine buys for Paige allows her to both travel great distances and through time.
  • Mammoths Mean Ice Age: After Jermaine and Paige have their fill of prehistoric reptiles, they travel to the last ice age during the Late Pleistocene Epoch. As they roam around, they encounter a herd of woolly mammoths and a herd of woolly rhinos.
  • Only Friend: Jermaine becomes Paige's first and only friend after the two meet following him defending her from the townsfolk who were bullying her. It's also heavily implied she's his only friend because he gets picked on just as much as she does.
  • Platonic Kissing: At the end of the story, Paige kisses Jermaine on the cheek as a further show of appreciation for him being her friend, buying her the necklace she wanted, and hanging out with her.
  • The Quiet One: Jermaine is largely a quiet person, and this is one of the main reasons he gets bullied.
  • Ship Tease: Between Jermaine and Paige.
    • After he sees the townsfolk making fun of her (both normally and in song form) for being a nerdy, shy bookworm who wears glasses, he jumps into action and warns them to not sing or talk about her like that. He then glares and growls at them to make them back off.
    • After she thanks him for helping her, he says he wasn't going to stand by and do nothing while she was being picked on.
    • When she sings a song about her love for history and reading, he says she has the MOST BEAUTIFUL voice. She blushes before thanking him.
    • They bond over their shared passion for fantasy, history, and reading. They also bond over their shared history of being bullied. Related to the latter, she thanks him for being open with her. He assures her that she's a beautiful person inside and out who deserves to be treated with love and respect. She's a bit caught off-guard by him using the word love, but she still appreciates everything he says. He tells her that he'll be her friend, offering her a handshake in the process. After a few seconds of hesitation, she happily accepts the gesture.
    • Three weeks later, he offers to use his allowance to buy her a new black-and-gold necklace with a light blue pendant after she expresses a desire to have it but has no money to buy it. She tries to talk him out of it, but he assures her it won't be an issue. He then says this is a kind gesture for a friend. Once he buys the necklace, she profusely thanks him for it as she puts it on.
    • During their Time Travel adventures, they travel to ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, ancient Rome, and feudal Japan. She rattles off fun facts and interesting bits of trivia at every location and period they visit. He says he loves the way she lights up when she talks about her passions, which makes her blush. In turn, she's impressed by him spouting off useful information when they travel to Revolutionary-era America, which is his favorite period of American history.
    • Upon returning to their own time, she gives him a hug as thanks for being her friend, buying her the necklace she wanted, and hanging out with her. In turn, he thanks her for spending time with him. She chuckles, which is the first time he's ever seen her laugh. As a further display of appreciation, she kisses him on the cheek, which makes him blush intensely. She smiles at him and waves goodbye with wiggly fingers before going back home.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Snowy Sabertooths: Averted. After Jermaine and Paige travel to the last ice age during the Pleistocene Epoch, they don't encounter any saber-toothed cats until the two children travel to the southern warmer climates.
  • Super Wrist-Gadget: The black-and-green wristwatch Jermaine buys allows him to both travel great distances and through time.
  • Time Traveler's Dinosaur: After Jermaine and Paige accidentally arrive in the Late Cretaceous Period via their new jewelry (a black-and-green wristwatch for him, a black-and-gold necklace for her), a T. rex lumbers in the distance. As they explore further, they come across a herd of Ankylosaurus, a herd of Pachycephalosaurus, a Pteranodon bringing fish back to its babies, a lone Quetzalcoatlus, and a herd of Triceratops in addition to the T. rex from before. Once the two children have their fill of prehistoric reptiles, they travel to the last ice age during the Late Pleistocene Epoch. As they roam around, they encounter a herd of woolly mammoths and a herd of woolly rhinos. When the two children travel to the southern warmer climates, they encounter giant ground sloths and saber-toothed cats.
