Homefront is a crossover between Non Non Biyori, Aldnoah.Zero, Is the Order a Rabbit? and Kiniro Mosaic written by Danny Barefoot.

It's set during the second Earth-Mars War, from the perspective of the ordinary girls in Asahigaoka and Child Soldiers during the war.

The story can be read on Fanfiction.net and Archive Of Our Own.

Tropes found in this fanfiction:

  • Adaptation Deviation:
    • In the original, Shiori's mother gives birth to Kasumi in a hospital, while in the fanfic, due to the war, and the lack of taxis, she had to give birth in her own home, also different from the anime. Shiori's father only thanked the girls 2 years later because he was absent for 10 months due to the war, added another year when he was arrested for attempted desertion.
    • In the original anime, Slaine ends up being arrested for treason and becomes the scapegoat, making him look like the person responsible for the assassination attempt on the princess, instead, in the fanfic, Slaine ends up being removed from his position, gets parole with Lemrina and is now watched. By the EU and the Vers empire, it is understood that he now lives in the countryside with Lemrina in Asahigaoka and seems to be happy with his new life.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Kaede and Shuu. Word of God has said that Shuu is in his late thirties, Kaede is only 20 years old.
  • Age Lift: Minimized but the girls in the main gang are one year older than in the canon.
  • Apocalypse How: class 1 the interplanetary war made the world outside Asahigaoka, apocalyptic wastelands, famine, social disruption and fragmented governments. Fortunately, just like the original material, the war ends after 2 years, and the land seems to be recovering, and the cities are rebuilding and society is recovering.
  • Babies Ever After: Apart from Kasumi, Shiori's little sister, is implied in the epiloge that Lemrina is pregnant with Slaine's child
  • Baby Factory: In the chapter 2, when the Tokyo team has an argument with a Versian general, it is mentioned that if the girls where in mars, they would probably be doing military service in addition to bearing versian children.
  • Badass Normal: Justified with Kaede Kagayama. She bought herself a hunting rifle from the black market, and she participated in the village training, so when the deserters attacked, she was able to protect Renge and Shiori.
  • Bittersweet Ending: the war is over, but Asahigaoka is disappearing because many people are already leaving, because Shiori's father tried to defect, ended up getting arrested, and although he was released, it is implied that he possibly lost his job.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Shiori pees herself during the deserters' attack.
  • But Liquor Is Quicker: It is implied with Kaede and Shuu.
  • Close-Knit Community: Just like the original material, Asahigaoka It's a very close-knit village where everyone takes care for each other for example, the village took care of Shiori's mother and daughter when Shiori's father was recruited.
  • Closestthing Wegot: Due to the war, the majority of the doctors where recruited in Asahigaoka so now they have the veterinarian as a replacement.
  • Child Soldiers: Some soldiers of the UE are 16 years old children.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: A non romantic but sibling example. Mitsuki Inokuma becomes that. Due to Renge and Kouta getting into a "relationship" Mitsuki became jealous of Renge, luckily for the end of the fanfic, she got over her jealousy.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Kaede's hunting rifle later she uses it against some deserters who robbed in Asahigaoka.
  • Clean, Pretty Childbirth: Averted, it mentiones that Shiori's mother bled while giving birth to Kasumi.
  • Cozy Catastrophe: Even though the world is at war, the villagers in Asahigaoka go about their daily lives, with some changes like patrolling the whole village.
  • Crossover Couple
  • Dad the Veteran: Shiori's father went off to the war in China like for 7 months until his second daughter is born, he survives the war and returns home, becoming this trope.
  • Dad's Off Fighting in the War: Shiori's father He was recruited to go to war, fortunately he returns, but because he tried to defect to return to his family,
  • Dangerous Deserter:
    • In the chapter 3, Asahigaoka is having some mysterious robberies, which at first were just something small like the school rabbits, they got worse to the point that cows started to disappear, in the end the culprits turned out to be some UFE deserters who lost their hope
    • Downplayed. Shiori's father tried to desert from the UE because he wanted to return to his family
unfortunately Word of God says that because he tried to defect, he may have lost his job as a policeman in Asahigaoka.
  • Dark Fic: Downplayed. The fanfic is somewhat dark since it is about life in times of war, however, it is not too violent, but it does show characters falling into alcoholism and adolescent deaths.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Tokyo is devastated when the landing castle fell on the city. It is implied that Hikage may have been crushed to death or charred by the explosion, despite the false hope that the fanfic gives us whether she is alive, in the end it turns out that she is not.
    • Rize Tedeza makes a heroic sacrifice by exploding her own kataphrakt over the landing castle in Beijing, allowing UFE victory.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Due to the stress of the war and Hikage's death, Kazuho falls into drinking, only when Renge is lost, Kazuho stops drinking.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Shiori's father, after being sent to war abroad and being arrested for attempted desertion and spending 2 years in a Chinese prison where he was possibly treated like shit. They released him and return to his family.
  • Emergency Food Supply Animal: Subverted. Due to food shortages and poor harvests that Asahigaoka is having, she has no choice but to raise the rabbits of the school as a source of food to Renge's sadness, in one part, Kouta says that they would most likely eat Pechi (Hotaru's corgi) luckily it doesn't happen.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The UE deserters: Despite being thieves, when they heard children (Renge and Shiori) they did not dare to hurt them, so they decided to shoot into the air as a warning)
  • The Famine: Due to the war, there was a food shortage, even Asahigaoka had crop problems because the impact of twenty-six landing castles raised clouds of ash and dust into the sky.
  • Headbutt of Love: Kaede do this with a distressed Renge after the little girl runs from home when the bunnies dissapeared.
  • Hellhole Prison:
    • Tokyo became a prissioner camp, with electric fences and domes, the worst part is the most part of the population are civilians that didn't managed to scape when Castle Cruhteo arrived.
    • Shiori's father spent two years in a Chinese prison after his failed attempt to defect, Word of God says he could have committed suicide but the hope of returning to his family kept him stand up.
  • Heroic Sacrifice : Rize Tedeza (see Death by Adaptation)
  • Mandatory Motherhood:
    • It seems Asahigaoka is an example of this, in a world plunged into war, it was to be expected that the villgage would expectate Shiori's mother to bring a future for the nation.
    • Acording to a Versian general, the duty of women in Vers is to serve in the military and bear children.
  • Maternity Crisis: Due to the lack of taxis, Shiori's mother has to give birth in her own home, in an emergency delivery.
  • Never Found the Body: When the landing castle fell on Tokyo, due to the lack of news of Hikage's whereabouts, the townspeople believed her dead, it is confirmed in chapter 4 where, after recovering Tokyo, her body would not be found and by not receiving news, they would celebrate her funeral without her body.
  • New Child Left Behind: Shiori's father goes to war when his wife was pregnant He comes back after like 3 years (like one year as a soldier and 2 years in a chinese prision) because he was arrested for desertion attempt.
  • Opposites Attract:Justified, Kaede Kagayama and Shuu Matsutani, despite Kaede being a "Japanese delinquent" and Shuu, a police officer. They were attracted to each other because they were so alike, and both felt alone in their respective jobs. At the end, it is implied that they are now in a relationship and according to Word of God, Kaede could propose to Shuu in the future.
  • Parental Abandonment: Kaede's mother with Adaptational Jerkass: unlike in the canon, in the fanfic Kaede's mother abandoned her when she was a child with her grandmother to be with another man
  • Projectile Kiss: Kouta Inokuma kiss Renge, that makes an "engagement" between them.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Kaede was raised by her grandmother since her mother abandoned her
  • War Is Hell: Considering that the fanfic takes place during the second Earth-Mars War, it's not surprising that this trope is applied. Even a quiet and small village like Asahigaoka suffers the consequences of the War, like bad harvests.
  • Screaming Birth: Kasumi's birth is described that way.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Invoked in the chapter 2, while Chiya, Cocoa and Aya were in Tokyo, now a prison camp, to pay tribute, both the Versian general and the Tokyo group accuse each other of being like that. The Tokyo team accuses Vers of not thanking the UE for the tributes that help them survive and the Versian general accuses the Earthlings of not being grateful because the tribute is to keep the Martians in Japan at bay.
  • Shout-Out
    • The song that Renge sings in chapter 2 is "We are all alive" from Ghost in the Shell.
    • The name of the UFE deserters in chapter 3 are the same of the characters in Gate.
    • The officer who arrest the deserters in chapter 3 and Kaede flirts with has the same name of Shu Matsutani, Word of God confirmed that is the same Shu who grew up and became a police officer.
  • War Refugees: Due to the war, Asahigaoka is full of refugees (mostly from Tokyo), some of the refugees are Kouta and Mitsuki Inokuma, Alice Cartelet Kujo Karen.
