''Do You Want To Explode''
(Or The Do You Want To Explode Series) is a Despicable Me (Well that's how it started out at least) Crack Fic by awesomecool1028 on Archive of Our Own.
The first "book" in the series is the story of Y/N (You, that is... Until she is, predictably, revealed to be her own character entirely.) as she falls in love with Dr. Nefario... Then it turns into a murder mystery, and then the series as a whole quickly devolves into a 30-Sue Pileup Massive Multiplayer Crossover, starting with the reveal of antagonist Untimely-Demise Mary Twilight Dementia Sue Ebony Starslayer (Demi for short.)
The second "book" in the series, In Which No One Ever Actually Explodes, follows Jonathan Life-Expectancy Draco Jacob Cardiomyopathy Melpomene Left Anterior Descending Artery Windows 11 Simon The'odore Optic Nerve Picheal Maximus Birch Variations On A Cloud Ligma Kokoro Felonius Daybreak Plan 9 From Outer Space Gamera: Super Monster Pentacthulquaditerator Davesprite Jame'2 Nefario, Y/N and Dr. Nefario's son on his quest to defeat Goffikclan, a clan of evil, goffik cats to avenge the death of his parents]
A third "book" is currently being written.
Tropes:
- Anyone Can Die: In fact, most of the characters have died at least once. Quite a few got better, however.
- Back from the Dead: Resurrection is a thing that happens frequently in the story.
- Crack Fic: The "story" is all over the place, any character from any piece of media ever could show up at any moment, there's a plethora of
MarySues... - Dramatic Ellipsis: Gets parodied a lot, as a homage to My Immortal.
- Large Ham: Pretty much everyone has their moment(s), especially any given Villain Sue.
- Massive Multiplayer Crossover: So far it's a crossover between Despicable Me, Homestuck, Breaking Bad, A Trekkie's Tale, The Bible, Warrior Cats, Foodfight! (2012) and My Immortal.
- Sophisticated as Hell: How the prose tends to be. For example in Chapter 17 of the first "book", the word "diegetically" is immediately followed in the next line by a "yuh uh".
- Chekhov's Gun: Y/N's phone wallpaper turns out to be somewhat plot relevant.
- Mr. Exposition: The minions love being this to Y/N.
- Parody: Of the "___ x Reader" fanfiction genre.
- Second-Person Narration: The chapters in Y/N's point of view. At first.
- Tears of Blood: Y/N begins to cry blood in Chapter 5 as a result to crying so much that her body is completely out of tears.
- Toilet Humour: "(you almost shit yourself.)(but you don't quite shit yourself because girls dont poop and OBVIOUSLY you're a girl.)(if you're reading this and you're not a girl then maybe you did shit yourself afterall.)(you decide.)"
- You Wake Up in a Room: The story begins with Y/N waking up in the Despicable Me universe.
