Tango Gameworks (Creator)

Tango Gameworks is a Tokyo, Japan-based video game development studio established in 2010.

Originally Tango K.K., the studio was founded by Shinji Mikami, who felt he was stuck doing nothing but horror games at his former employer Capcom and wished to branch out. Unfortunately, their first project (Noah, a game based on, of all things, the 1984 version of Dune) immediately landed them into financial difficulties that would have seen the studio's closure after only a few months until Bethesda Softworks stepped into assist by convincing their own parent company ZeniMax Media to acquire the studio. Now known as Tango Gameworks, the developer soon got to work creating horror- and horror-adjacent titles such as The Evil Within for the next few years, ironically only releasing its first non-horror title (Hi-Fi RUSH) shortly before Mikami would depart the studio in 2023 to establish another new company, Kamuy.

In May 2024, Microsoft — who had acquired ZeniMax Media a few years prior — announced plans to shut down Tango Gameworks alongside three other development studios due to a "reprioritization of titles and resources." The studio would formally close in June, but two months later, South Korean publisher Krafton (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds) would reveal that they had successfully acquired the studio and the Hi-Fi Rush IP, with any employees who had not yet found new work remaining at the developer.
