1-Up Studio is a Japanese video game developer and subsidiary of Nintendo.
Established in 2000 by former Square employees, 1-Up Studio — then known as Brownie Brown — spent its early years developing Eastern RPGs for Nintendo handhelds, with several of these titles being published by Square Enix and other companies, despite Nintendo fully owning the studio. However, in 2013, 1-Up Studio would change its name and be restructured into a support studio geared primarily towards assisting Nintendo EPD Tokyo on the 3D Super Mario Bros. games.
