She has the second highest Strength after Leon and her Fire spells is powerful despite her middling Song Power stat, albeit constrained by her low MP. • Adaptational Personality Change: All recurring Vocaloid characters have characterization differences between the two continuities, but Neru's case is much more significant. In the first continuity, she's a loner yet unambigously heroic character. In The Lost Song however, she is a Punch-Clock Villain working for a shady group.

• The Klutz: Deconstructed. Her clumsiness compromises her competency on managing Digitalia. One time, she forgot to set the security system on before taking a break, and the result is a horde of Viruses managing to break in. The invasion only stopped after Master installed XP, who is much less of a klutz and thus much more competent.

• Combat Pragmatist: Most Viruses are sneaky enough to pull dirty tricks against the Vocaloids, such as taking Kaito hostage in the first game, and attacking Rin and Len from behind in the third game.
• Digital Abomination: Particularly powerful Viruses can takes on more eldritch forms, such as the mutated Water Virus and the Virus controlling Zero.
• Defeat Equals Explosion: Viruses are shown to explode when killed.
• It Can Think: Bugs are shown more intelligent than they look may imply, such as when they ambush and kidnap Len in the first game.
• Made of Evil: Their are born of malicious data designed to destroy any digital world they found.
• Laughably Evil: Some Viruses has the knack to act like a comedian, like the Null-type Virus.
• Shadowed Face, Glowing Eyes: Bugs and Viruses have pitch-black body except for their glowing face.
• Villain Teleportation: Viruses can teleport by opening a black portal. This is more pronounced in the third game.

Muon Zero and his Virus

• All Your Powers Combined: In the second phase of the first game's True Final Boss battle, the Virus' non-primary heads sling various status infliction attacks of past Virus bosses.
• Big Bad: The number one leader of the Bugs and Viruses, Zero aims to basically commit genocide to all of the Vocaloids.
• Demonic Possession: Zero is an incomplete, yet sentient data left from Vocaloid creation process that gets possessed by a nighmarishly powerful Virus.
• Draconic Abomination: After being exorcised out of Zero's body thanks to Miku's White Canceller program, the Virus controlling him basically goes nuts and tries to kill everyone present as it turns into a gigantic dragon. Cue the True Final Boss battle.
• Doppelgänger Attack: In the first game, Zero creates two clones of himself (called Shadow Zero) to aid himself in his boss battle by casting various Status Infliction Attack to your party. They have half of his health and you can kill them, but Zero will just re-summon them when his turn comes.
• Expository Pronoun: Under the Virus' control, Zero uses the formal watashi to refer to himself. However, after he's freed in the first game's Golden Ending, he switches to the more casual boku.
• Go Out with a Smile: At the end of the first game's Golden Ending, Zero is shown smiling for a split second before he fades away.
• Greater-Scope Villain: Since he's the progenitor of all Bugs and Viruses in the series, he serves as this in mobile install for the Virus controlling the cellphone world.
• Life Drain: The version of Zero shown in the third game is shown killing a Vocaloid by draining their data, making them drop dead.
• Monster Progenitor: Zero can create more Bugs and Viruses to wreak havoc in digital worlds.
• My God, What Have I Done?: Zero has this reaction when Miku and co. defeats the Virus that have been controlling him.
• Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The kanji used for Muon (無音) means "silence". As the Vocaloids are personification of voice synthesizers, this indicates their hatred of them and their desire to exterminate them. However, it's subverted in the first game's Golden Ending that Zero himself is benevolent; it's the Virus possessing him that's genocidal.
• One-Hit Kill: Both of Zero's Death Requiem and the Virus' Death Program instantly kills whoever they target if they land.
• Orcus on His Throne: At least in the third game's newest demo, he mainly relies to Alice and the Viruses to kidnap various Vocaloids. Justified since he is still recovering from the final boss battle from the first game.
• Original Character: He's original creation of the series' creator.
• Red Eyes, Take Warning: In the first game's normal boss battle, Zero's eyes turn red when the battle switches to the second phase.
• Time Stand Still: One of his attacks inflict the unique Time Stop status ailment, which only can be removed by either waiting it out or to use an Elixir.
• Turns Red: His boss battles in the first game is the only one that has two phases. Interestingly, in the alternate route, the Virus turns into a three-headed dragon, with the non-primary head tossing various spells from past Virus bosses, while the normal route has Zero stopping creating clones of himself.
• Walking Spoiler: Since he first appears near the end of the first game and being the one behind the invasion of Digitalia and the leader of the Bugs and Viruses in the series, his very existence is a major spoiler for the first game.
• Yin-Yang Bomb: As a result of being an incomplete Vocaloid possessed by a powerful Virus, Zero have access to both Vocaloid- and Virus-based attacks.

• Bad Boss: She has no problem killing Viruses for either failing to kidnap a Vocaloid or just for making fun of her.
• Cannot Spit It Out: She's obviously having feelings for Zero. However, she's too shy to admit it out to him.
• Cards of Power: Apparently she casts her spells by drawing a set of magical cards. The spell themselves has the pattern of her hand followed by the initial of a suit. For example, "High Card C" is a Earth-element spell, while "Two Piece S" is a Light-element spell that may inflict Blindness.
• Confusion Fu: She has a ton of spells and has access to all elements in the game, which makes her very unpredictable when fought as a boss. It's possible, for example, for her to spam two High Card S to Len who resists them, only to suddenly knocking out Luka in one hit by exploiting her weakness with a Two Piece D in the next turn. Her superboss version ups the ante by adding the "Flush" spell set into her repeirtoire, which hits everyone.
• The Dragon: She is Zero's strongest minion and also being the most loyal. Being smart unlike the Viruses also helps.
• The Dreaded: After their first encounter that ended in a stalemate, Miku and co. become wary of her that they trying their best to stay together.
• Instant Runes: Whenever she teleports or casting a spell in battle, a glowing pentacle appear.
• Non-Standard Character Design: She looks noticeably different to everyone else, in particular her wide eyes. Even Zero could blend better with the rest of the cast than her.
• Not So Stoic: She always looks stoic and dead serious when attacking the Vocaloids. Whenever she's around Zero however, that image falters as she acts like a nervous high school girl.
• Villain Teleportation: Like the Viruses, she can teleports everywhere as she wish. However, instead of a black portal, she apparently uses a portal formed with a pentacle.
