Surveillance, Tracking, And Troubleshooting Services

The Detectives

    As a duo
A pair of young siblings who made their name as great detectives. They are Munin, the older sister, and Hugin, the younger brother.

In General

  • Animal Motifs: Ravens.
    • Not only do their epithets allude to a raven's parts, they have a purple feather in their hat and carry a cane with a head curved like a raven's claw or beak, and ravens are often associated with cleverness or ill omens, respectively referencing their intelligence as a detective and their arrival in Silvernia marking the possible start of great change. Their canon names are also taken from the twin ravens owned by Odin.
    • One of the Detective's Ultimate quotes is "Nevermore!", a catchphrase repeated in The Raven (1845) by Edgar Allan Poe.
  • Irony: Everything about the Evermore incident and the Detective's Ultimate's quote, "Nevermore," is all too symbolic. That airship was supposed to be where they would receive their highest honors, only for it to be the stage of a tragedy that takes the life of one of them. It's even punctuated by the both of them falling from the ship instead of "flying". Never again will the Detective fly with their sibling, and never do they plan on losing a loved one ever again.
  • Meaningful Name: They are named after Odin's ravens, "Hugin" and "Munin", which respectively mean "thought" and "memory"—fitting for twins known for their intelligence.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: The siblings' default names are Hugin and Munin, the same as Odin's twin prophetic ravens.
  • Signature Headgear: Munin wears a fedora while Hugin wears a top hat, both of which have a purple feather in it. No matter what acrobatics and rough-housing the Detective does, it stays on their head throughout their investigations and fights against all manner of threats.
  • Teen Genius: When the Detective goes to their fallen sibling's grave, it shows "Auguria 33 - Auguria 51", showing that the two of them were just 18 years old when they were awarded for their detective services.

Munin

  • Lady in a Power Suit: The female protagonist is just as sharp as the male one and wears a very dapper, unisex outfit (though with shorts and pantyhose instead of trousers).

Hugin

  • Crazy-Prepared: In the "Black Knights' Tango" trailer, Hugin responds to Lady Bentham calling for her guards to hold him at gunpoint by slamming his glass down onto the table, at which point the seemingly innocuous maids in the background brandish their weapons and hold up the guards.
  • Parrying Bullets: The "Black Knights' Tango" trailer has him doing this with his cane. Also possible to do in gameplay regardless of the sibling chosen.

    The Detective

Detective Munin / Hugin

Characters in Silver Palace
Munin - The Raven's Claws
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/silver_palace_male_detective_promo.jpeg
Hugin - The Raven's Beak
Rarity: 5★
Attribute: Hero
Element: Gravitas

The protagonist of the game. They are a well-known detective who has made their return to Silvernia three years after an unknown disaster.

At the start, the player can choose to play as one of the detective siblings.
  • Action Hero: They're no armchair detective that's for sure, which is necessary given the fantastical dangers of their investigation. Their abilities include conjuring silver creations, wielding a double-edged sword and a revolver, and sneaking up on bad guys to interrogate them or knock them out.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Comes as part of being a detective. Noteworthy feats include:
    • Time is stopped whenever the player gets to examine a person in cutscenes, and revealing disguised monsters is done by scanning and picking up on a variety of small clues. It implies that the Detective can analyze a person and process information within seconds.
    • In the aftermath of Rex's boss fight, where the Detective comments that the superintendent could stand to use a lighter weapon instead of his heavy rod.
  • Comically Missing the Point: The Detective ties up Firtho and briefly stuffs her into a closet as part of a hypothesis, but is confused when she gets pissed off at them for it.
  • Double Weapon: They can conjure a double-ended sword of silver for combat. Its design of having one blade being over twice the shorter blade's length bears great resemblance to the Rakuyo from Bloodborne, only bigger, straighter and more ornate.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: They can manipulate pure Silvernium into constructs like their signature sword.
  • Famed in Story: The Detective and their sibling were once highly renowned as a duo who solved a great number of cases up until the Evermore's destruction and earning the surviving Detective the title of "Queen Slayer". In the present, the public still recognizes them by their infamy, though this is gradually alleviated as they continue their work as a detective.
  • Game-Favored Gender: The game's promotional material heavily features the Female Detective/Munin. She is the illustration on the official website and frequently appears in promotional artwork. While Male Detective/Hugin didn't have the same luck, as he has only feature in one trailer so far—only time will tell if he will feature in more promotional material or remain in the shadow of his female counterpart.
  • Gravity Master: Their Gravitas Reactor lets them manipulate gravity, as well as adds in Time Dilation to slow enemies.
  • Great Detective: They are a detective of renown—they're even called "Detective" by others—having been called back to Silvernia for an investigation of its mysteries.
  • The Gunslinger: Wields a revolver as a ranged weapon, having the skill to use it in conjunction with their sword, fan the hammer without any recoil, and casually twirl it here and there.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The crashing of the Evermore resulted in the death of Queen Auguria, and with no one knowing the exact details of what happened on top of the Detective's self-exile from Silvernia for three years, the general populace brands them with the title of "Queen Slayer".
  • The Lost Lenore: They lose their younger sibling during the attack on the Evermore, killed by the same people likely behind The Nameless Ashes case. The Detective's return to Silvernia three years later, despite their reluctance to do so, is because they spent the interim fruitlessly tracking down the killer and needed new leads.
  • Memory Palace: The Detective has the Mind Palace ability, allowing them to take any evidence on their board and recreate the scene in their own head with exceptional accuracy. It does, however, have drawbacks: using the Mind Palace can be exhaustingly taxing for the Detective and can cause vivid nightmares, requiring Firtho's medicine to mitigate such effects.
  • The Musketeer: They wield a double-bladed sword for melee combat and reserve long-range attacks for their revolver. The only time they do Sword and Gun is during a finisher on a werewolf, where they gut it with their sword before driving their revolver up its head and blasting it. It's doubly fitting given the game's allusions to Victorian Britain, a period in which the Swashbuckler and musketeer archetypes got popularized.
  • Secret-Keeper: At the end of Gratia's side quest, they agree to keep Gratia from knowing about Feliana allowing harpies to attack the race in order to give the knights a chance at public heroics.
  • Sherlock Scan: As expected of a detective, they are capable of gathering all sorts of clues from a single look to out a werewolf disguised as a human or noting subtle but important hints on strangers.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: They can conjure silvery metal to envelope their arm as armor and create a double-edged sword.

    The Partner
The detective sibling who the player does not choose at the start. They die during the fall of the Evermore, sparking the surviving Detective's quest to find their killer.
  • Dual Wielding: They get into a brief but skillful moment of this during the prologue, using the revolver they get from the Detective to land shots every time even in close and frantic quarters.
  • Taking the Bullet: In the prologue, the Partner takes it while the siblings are fighting off some monsters when a mysterious wax-headed person fires at the distracted Detective—with the very same revolver that got knocked away from them during the fighting. It hits them in the head. They don't get back up.

Allies

    Alf

Alf

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/g9ze5jhasaurhrj.jpg
A Story Truly Yours
"The most important job of a maid is to protect her employer!"
Rarity: 4★
Attribute: Hero
Element: Ignis

MISS No. 49, a clumsy little maid in service to the Detective, whether by sweeping the floors or turning her master's enemies to ash.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She often makes up for her ditzy and inexperienced service with a lot earnestness, like accidentally mistaking salt for sugar when brewing tea for the Detective.
  • Kick Chick: In combat, her hands are virtually glued to her shotgun, so she engages in melee through a lot of kicking mixed in with some gun stock bashing and Glasgow Kisses.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: She uses what appears to be a lever-action shotgun, which has a second mode where she plugs a hose from the Reactor on her back into a hole in the shotgun, converting it into a flamethrower.
  • Ninja Maid: Emphasis on the "Ninja" part, which would be better replaced with "battle". She is noted to be clumsy when it comes to housework, which is contrasted by her effectiveness in fighting.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She is first shown having entered the Detective's bedroom out of curiosity and about to touch their face, likely worried about them suffering from a nightmare, before bolting out of the room when they wake up.
  • Numerical Theme Naming: Alf's ID has 49 on it. Meeting other maids from MISS explain that the number is how many commendations were awarded to them from MISS, with the typical combat maid having a hundred or so, meaning Alf is pretty low ranking. Despite Alf's clumsiness and inability to do precise work, she's deemed an exceptional case and the fact she managed to get commendations from an agency as prestigious as MISS at all is certainly high mark for her.
  • Obviously Unqualified: It's shown from the get-go that Alf's clumsiness means she can't be trusted to clean without supervision. It's made egregious in her interview that she doesn't know what about—let alone the words—reading, tea, and other basic things that a maid is expected to do, moreso when her smooth hands and pristine gear show she hasn't worked much, if at all. Nevertheless, the Detective lets her stay as a maid so that they can have someone watching the Detective's Office.
  • Playing with Fire: She proves her element through her use of a flamethrower, which in battle gameplay turns her into something of a flame tank, slowing her movement to a walk as she sprays flames in a wide cone.

    Firtho

Firtho

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/g9_rrtvbuaeoteq.jpg
The Medical Lancet
"Life has not been kind to me. Death, on the other hand... has been a truer friend."
Rarity: 4★
Attribute: Guardian
Element: Radiatio

  • Childhood Friends: With the Detective. Despite her lament about the Detective leaving without a word for three years only to show up to work on a case like nothing happened, she knows the Detective well enough to tell they're a busybody by nature, does autopsies for them when asked nicely, and even offers medicine to help with the Detective's nightmares and headaches caused by the stress of using the Mind Palace ability.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Downplayed in that she doesn't physically act on her jealousy, but Firtho still becomes rather demanding in questions towards the Detective when she learns they hired Ashley through Lorin's candidate selection channels instead of going to her for help in investigating the Nameless Ashes case, especially since it's implied she's helped them many times before the airship incident.
  • Deadly Doctor: She is a doctor, except she fights with a massive serrated cleaver and is fond of jabbing syringes full of mystery liquid into her enemies.
  • Delicate and Sickly: She suffers from a congenital sickness that forces her to keep a life-sustaining device on her—which is the heart-like Reactor on her back—all the time.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Slightly stylized with beige compared to the typical plain white kind, but qualifies given her job as a doctor (not to mention the bloodstains...).
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Has an understandable cold reaction to the Detective suddenly showing up in her clinic to ask for help instead of greeting or letting her know ahead of time as Childhood Friends ought to be. It takes the Detective apologizing and greeting properly that Firtho acquiesces.
  • White and Red and Eerie All Over: Her color palette makes use of white (from her lab coat and pale skin) and blood red colors, not just that of her clothes but also the morbid bloodstains, huge cleaver dripping with blood, and the beating heart-shaped device on her back. All this connects her work as a Deadly Doctor to her disease wracking her body.

Silvernia

Royalty and Aristocracy

The Royal Family

    Auguria

Queen Auguria

The previous queen of Silvernia. She was on the Evermore to personally award the Detectives until the incident that led to her death.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: Besides the death of the Partner sparking a personal quest for the Detective, Queen Auguria's loss sent ripples of change throughout Silvernia, not least of which is passing down the crown to the current queen, Feliana.

Aristocrats

    Cynthia II

Cynthia Luna the Second

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/g_nqlfaayaaak_c.jpg
The Goldbud
"A few older noble relatives still have to call me their auntie! Detective, want to join them?"
Rarity: 5★
Attribute: Witness
Element: Ignis

A descendant of House Luna, as well as the Detective's landlady.
  • All-Loving Hero: Sees the best in everyone, even thugs, werewolves and harpies, to the confusion of the latter.
  • Big Sister Instinct: An inversion as she is younger than the Detective, but as the Detective's landlady ensuring the wellbeing of her abode and its inhabitants, she'll nonetheless become protective of the Detective if criminal elements rear their head.
  • Ojou Ringlets: True to her aristocratic little girl status, her sidelocks have been fashioned into thick drills.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: Introduces herself as the younger cousin to the current Queen Feliana.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: As the scion of House Luna, she's been trained in the leadership role from youth and is naturally well adept to the point of managing the upkeep of the Detective's residence and office, while still finding the time to play harmless pranks.

    Red Rose

Red Rose

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/silver_palace_red_rose.jpeg
The Rose as an Engine of War
"The curtain falls; thus have I come to thee. Long parted, how brief shall our meeting be?"
Rarity: 5★
Attribute: Saviour
Element: TBA

A superstar dancer of High Peers and a purveyor of intel with numerous connections, exceptional skill in infiltration and espionage, and a vested interest in the Detective.
  • Always Someone Better: While speaking to her at the Midsummer Night's Ballroom, the Detective surmises that Red Rose, with her exceptional skills and connection to House Flora, has wealth and power that most nobles can only dream of. Rose also seems to be more in the know about information and investigations than even the Detective. There's one exception: she doesn't pry beyond the surface of someone's identity.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Shows up to save the Detective from an overwhelming ambush at Ashley's request, then tosses an invitation ticket to the Detective with writing on the back telling them that they owe her a dance.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Related to her Dark and Troubled Past, being raised for assassination and warfare has left Red Rose with a sense of morality alien to society, as the Detective finds out. She solidifies her connections in ways that let her have free reign on her end, and she judges people by how much one is willing to pay her to kill someone else, and how much she personally likes them. Ashley and the Detective are the only two individuals to stay in her good graces, the former with her determination and the latter being a worthwhile contact to invest effort into.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her title card states that Red Rose was (and still is) an assassin and war veteran before she became a dancer, and her past actions were severe enough to have "scarred her very soul." Said past is given some clarity when Red Rose's first meeting with a blood-covered Ashley has the dancer recount that Ashley has "just bloomed," implying that this "blooming" involves the killing of others and that Red Rose had gone through her first kill (and many others) as well. And this is a typical rite of passage for members of House Flora.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The Detective's discussion with Red Rose implies that while anything goes for the right price, the latter at least respects the privacy of others and won't pry beyond the surface of their personal lives.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her eyes have orange irises that appear to glow in certain moments, with slitted pupils indicative of her Florian origin.
  • Femme Fatale: The Detective's observation shows she is "armed to the teeth" with numerous weapons, hidden and visible, and even a backup Reactor disguised as jewelry, and her signature rose-themed dress and slitted eyes draws everyone's attention with ease.
  • Flash Step: One of Red Rose's chain attacks has her firing Guns Akimbo while side-stepping fast enough to leave afterimages.
  • The Gunslinger: As a playable character, she fights by zipping around with dual pistols.
  • High-Class Gloves: She wears a pair as an accessory to her dress... and hide her fingerprints. They are also adorned with rose-themed rings to match.
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: Wears the same ornate, rose-themed dress both in combat and on the stage.
  • Master of Disguise: She "borrows" the clothes of a male office clerk chosen as a candidate by Chief Inspector Lorin, with the latter man in charge being completely fooled and letting her into the Detective's Office unimpeded.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Invoked and Justified, given her role as a Florian superstar. Red Rose wears an incredibly fancy wardrobe that shows off her legs and cleavage (via an Impossibly Low Neckline), is considered one of the most beautiful women in Silvernia, and is a Femme Fatale to boot. She's also quite flirtatious with the Detective, regardless of gender.
  • Odd Friendship: On cordial terms with Ashley. Red Rose took a liking to the maiden when she made an outrageous request. She admits she also takes in people who persevere despite being beaten and bloodied by the darker parts of society.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Less an outright villain and more an intel contractor working for the highest bidder, her curiosity in the Detective's return is clearly something she takes a personal hand in getting involved in, to the point of orchestrating a jailbreak to give the Detective an opening and offering a partnership to become the Detective's assistant should the spot be available.
  • World's Most Beautiful Woman: Has such a reputation as a Florian superstar carrying high status, and so far, few other characters can hope to compete with her beauty.

The Order of the Tide

    In General
A knight order in service to the Crown. However, their reputation had sunk ever since their failure to protect Queen Auguria, and now they struggle to restore it in the face of the Navy's growing influence.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Gratia's fellow knights are named after those from Arthurian Legend, including Galant (Galahad in JP), Bors, Gawain, and Kay.
  • Shipper on Deck: At the very end of Gratia's side quest, just as Gratia was going to shyly tell the Detective something after being given a token, the kids find her fellow knights eavesdropping from behind bushes. All of them get the wrong idea about the two being together and approve of it. Bors gets especially gleeful when he sees the two's steeds galloping off together.

    Gratia

Gratia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/silver_palace_gratia.jpeg
Her Majesty's Protégé
"Routine training shall make the knights stronger... Thus spake Her Majesty the Queen!"
Rarity: 5★
Attribute: Guardian
Element: Glacies

A Royal Knight of the Order of the Tide who was bestowed the favor of Queen Feliana as her personal guard. An energetic idealist at heart, she gallantly rides into battle with a greatsword and huge shield to protect all those under her charge.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's well-mannered, friendly and even considered a bit naïve by some, but she's still a fully trained knight and strong enough to Neck Snap a Harpy twice her size.
  • Dub Name Change:
    • She's called "Grati" in JP.
    • Her steed, Top Hat, is called "Silk Hat" in JP dubbing.
  • Giver of Lame Names: In her story quest, she names her steed "Top Hat" to commemorate their new friend, the Detective.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Has the blonde hair to match her pure knightly ideals to serve the people.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Has a tall pair of rabbit ears on her head.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: At the end of her personal quest, she's deliberately kept in the dark about Feliana's plan to boost the Order's reputation by letting harpies attack the race and Gratia heroically stopping them. This is to keep such worries from weighing Gratia's pure heart down, and while the Detective doesn't approve of the plan, they agree to keep it secret as well for Gratia's sake.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Her personality isn't as overtly sexual as someone like Bentham or Red Rose, but her outfit is easily the skimpiest out of the entire playable cast, exposing her curvy legs, large breasts that outshine even Bentham, and a copious amount of sideboob. The bunny ears also play up her appeal.

Citizens

Commoners

    Grimm

Grimm

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_8643_1.jpeg
Silver-tongued Headliner
"Undocumented truth is really flimsy. Direct confrontation is not my thing. I fight my battles elsewhere."

  • Intrepid Journalist: He may be a bit obnoxious, but he's undeniably dedicated to his job and believes the people have a right to know the truth.
  • Jerkass: His first impression is to snap surprise photos of the Detective and Ashley, infuriate the both of them by suggesting that partners are bound to die around the Detective, and barge into the Office in secret. Although there are hints to his Hidden Depths given that the lattermost act was to hide a journal containing important information for the Detective.
  • Kid Hero: He's no older than Pixy, yet he's daring enough to go against dark forces to get his scoop.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: His name comes from The Brothers Grimm, who are collectors of fairy tales, much in the same way Grimm finds news to report. Made more appropriate with his involvement in the Nameless Ashes case involving Cinderella allusions.
  • Selfie Fiend: Often takes photos of himself with his camera.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Barely an Act later, and he's burned to a crisp in the Nameless Ashes case. Quite fittingly for a follower of the Detective, he does a Bait-and-Switch when it's found he faked his death in order to get away from an unspecified group attempting to silence him.

    Ashley

Ashley

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/silver_palace_key_art_stats.jpg
A young maiden recommended by Lorin for be the Detective's assistant who, despite appearing to be of humble origin, proves more than able.
For more information about her, see "Cinderella" under Others.

  • Afraid of Doctors: Visiting Firtho for the first time will have the Detective ask Ashley if she wants her bandages changed and long-term injuries checked on. Ashley's refusal and reasoning is shown to have a nervous tick in her speech while picking at her bandages, before assuring the Detective she can handle the bandages herself and leaving promptly. Later when the investigation takes her and the Detective to Dr. Romme, she visibly gets sick and weak even as she tries to pretend she's fine, suggesting something serious. Romme himself was responsible for the trauma, having forced her to keep working at UVW with dangerous drug injections and giving her the bandages she uses now.
  • Ambiguously Related: Given the heavy resemblance she has to "Cinderella" and the original tale's story of a peasant girl rising to become a princess, it only appears to be a matter of time before it's confirmed that Ashley is "Cinderella" herself.
  • Animal Motifs: At one point in the main story, Ashley bends down to ask some moving ants what to do after she got barred from entry into a bank, but remembers the Detective's words not to stay still. It makes sense why she identifies with them; Strong Ants, especially worker ants, are capable of lifting things larger than them and are constantly on the move at work, just like Ashley who didn't give up despite experiencing the worst Silvernia had to offer a Gravelkin. They also have quite the sting to take on things larger than them, the same way Ashley managed to kill Evan despite being surprised and ill-suited, but then went on to hatch a plan that would be unexpected of a poor civilian.
  • Break Her Heart to Save Her: The Detective's investigation into the Nameless Ashes case with Ashley puts the two in increasing peril. Upon being suspected by Lorin, Ashley promptly resigns upon admitting her presence and past is putting the Detective in harm's way. The Detective keeps investigating and finds the truth, and manages to meet with Ashley one last time. Not wanting the Detective to go into danger for her, Ashley thanks the Detective for everything with a hug... and jabs their neck with a tranquilizer.
  • Fairytale Motifs: The entirety of the Nameless Ashes story arc is chock full of allusions to "Cinderella" (which exists in this universe), so much so that as the case progresses, a few characters can't help but see the parallels between Ashley and the tale.
    • Cinderella was named so because she slept next to a fireplace and would get ashes all over her because her family always dumped work on her. Ashley (note the name?) wears clothes that are worn and dusty, indicating she is too poor and busy to clean up or get new clothes, let alone have a job that doesn't necessitate labour.
    • Cinderella lived with a stepmother and stepsisters who treated her harshly and made her do all their chores. Ashley is shunned by the elite class for being part of the Gravelkin, knows how to clean well, and has had a rough life as shown by her bandages and callused hands. Her bandages also hide her burns, which were a result of being exploited by her employers at United Vormentum Works.
    • Cinderella was kept miserable by her situation until her fairy godmother came by and granted her wishes, where she went to a ball in a pretty dress and danced with a prince she came to fall for. Ashley came to the Detective because she wanted them to solve a mystery, or in other words, to grant her wish. Then after Boudon's arrest, the Detective (also being a prince here) takes Ashley out shopping for new clothes at the Quadric Emporium, where Ashley wears new clothes that turns everyone's eyes on her—a sharp change from how everyone looked down on her before for her shabbiness—then heads out to a trade fair where they enjoy themselves, which is topped by a Silverillia lightshow that the Detective calls magic. It's safe to say that Ashley felt like a princess throughout their "date".
    • At the end of the ball, Cinderella had to leave before the clock could strike twelve, but left a glass slipper behind in her rush. When Ashley is suspected to be the woman who faked Grimm's death, the Detective proposes trying the woman's slipper on Ashley's foot; Alf herself thinks aloud it sounds like the fairy tale. This part of the tale however is subverted when it turns out the slipper doesn't fit.
    • Before meeting the Detective, Ashley met her other "fairy godmother", Red Rose, who offered her services as a killer and was involving herself with the Detective at Ashley's request.
  • Fantastic Underclass: She is part of the Gravelkin, which is apparently the lowest class in society, and is insulted by nobles for even showing herself in High Peers, forbidden from entering luxury buildings and institutions, expendable to corporations like UMI and even the well-meaning Lorin initially doubts her from her appearance alone.
  • Foil: Comparisons can be easily drawn given that she's introduced right after Alf during the assistant interviews. Alf is an overenthusiastic kid dressed in an elaborate Stripperiffic Meido outfit and is a MISS, a high-class job that should indicate professionalism but is undermined by Alf's lack of knowledge and experience in all the needed areas, let alone literacy, though she can fight with a shotgun and a flame-elemental Reactor. Ashley is an older-looking girl of lowly origins and just graduated school, is a Scullery Maid wearing shabby and conservative clothes to the point she only shows her face and hands, but is humble, knows how to read and clean, has the wits to match the Detective, is incapable of fighting and doesn't have a Reactor, and has had a rough life as seen with her callused and bandaged hands. It's ironic that despite Ashley being the ideal candidate, Alf is the first to be allowed to stay at the Office before Ashley is accepted as an assistant.
  • Girl Friday: Becomes the Detective's assistant after showing that she can read and write, make tea, clean house, as well as have the critical thinking to match the Detective. Even if she can't fight like Alf or the Detective, Ashley serves well in all the other ways.
  • In-Series Nickname: Respectfully calls her boss "Master Detective".
  • Odd Friendship: Ashley is somehow on cordial terms with Red Rose, when their status puts them as far apart from each other as can be. This comes in handy when she requests the dancer's help to save the Detective from an overwhelming ambush... but then that raises the question of how she knew Red Rose, let alone contact her.
  • Scullery Maid: She is a Gravelkin who is first introduced cleaning the Detective's Office, which is in stark contrast to the clumsier and fancier Alf. While her position as assistant means she is usually accompanying and helping the Detective however she can, a mail about mould-affected books at the Office shows she cleans offscreen and has plenty of experience, having known to clean and dry the shelves to stop mould from spreading as well as offering to try to repair the damaged tomes (albeit she's never done it). It's also a symbolic allusion to Cinderella's poor beginnings.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: A shopping trip at the Quadric Emporium has Ashley getting out of her worn clothes and into a last-season dress, combined with a necklace and a bouquet of camellias picked out by the Detective. The ensemble looks so good on her it made the shopkeeper and the nobles nearby who had looked down on her wonder where that Gravelkin girl had gone, including the Detective who took a moment to stare.
  • Ship Tease: The visit to the Quadric Emporium has few ways to be described other than a date with the Detective acting as both her fairy godmother and prince at once. The Detective gets their assistant new clothes, jewelry, and flowers (Bryony excitedly asks if it's a date, to which the Detective can affirm), then they go looking around a trade fair, and finally get to see a Silverillia lightshow (which the Detective hears from a passing couple earlier). The memory stayed with her so deeply that when the two reunite at the loading docks, Ashley has to leave because she still wants revenge on Vorsch, but she expresses her gratefulness for all the Detective has done and calls them her "prince".

    Pixy

Pixy

A young and enthusiastic newsboy who the Detective meets upon their return to Silvernia.
  • Expy: If the Detective takes after Sherlock Holmes, Pixy (and Grimm to an extent) is the representative of the Baker Street Boys, being a street urchin that provides the Detective with handy information on occasion.
  • Hero-Worshipper: In contrast to the wary looks the Detective got during the return to the city, Pixy is the only one to have a positive response to the situation, especially after being rescued twice: once from a falling parade decoration, and again from a werewolf. Since then, the boy has looked up to the Detective as a reliable hero.

The dutiful Chief Inspector of the River Constabulary.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: His fighting style consists of throwing a lot of electric-infused punches and Shoryukens, with one skill making him launch a flurry of punches.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: A prominent ragged scar goes down from his right cheek and down to his neck. He's still an affable inspector doing his job regardless.
  • Old Shame: Played for Laughs when the Detective investigates gang activities in Lorin's stead in his story quest. They find out that for all the talk of "keeping brats in check," Lorin used to be quite the brat himself in his younger days, and doesn't let him live it down.
  • OOC Is Serious Business: After the Detective and Ashley's unofficial date, the two return to the Detective's Office to hear the results of the investigation into the slipper's owner. When Ashley tries to talk though, Lorin coldly tells her to be quiet, which is in stark contrast to how he warmly reassured her previously. It's Five-Second Foreshadowing for Ashley becoming the suspected owner.
  • Shock and Awe: Has the Fulmen element, which is often seen whenever he discharges electricity from his boxing glove.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Said word for word when the Detective reveals that Red Rose got through security by disguising as the male office clerk he selected as a promising candidate.

    Rex

Superintendent Rex

The Scales of Black and White
"Enforcers of the law must show no leniency to maintain its authority."
Rarity: 5★
Attribute: Hero
Element: Fulmen

The Superintendent of the River Constabulary, Lorin's direct superior and an officer of the Royal Navy, ensuring the Constabulary can operate to the standards required by the Crown.
  • Blood Knight: He can remain calm and focused on the task at hand when the situation requires, but a duel with the Detective shows he really likes to let loose in battle and his heavy combat staff is a means to hold back his already insane agility.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: He's a stern officer of the law who owns a pair of Dobermans named Radar and Chalky. Humorously, the "Come, Chalky!" interaction between him and the female Detective has Rex seemingly get jealous of the Detective for getting Chalky's attention.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He consistently presents a cold and callous exterior to those around him, but deep down, he does care for the people of Silvernia, and will feed bones to Radar and Chalky for doing a good job. He also comes around with the Detective after seeing their good deeds and takes their advice on focusing on a nimbler combat style.
  • Right-Hand Attack Dog: Has two of them with Fulmen abilities that accompany him, named Radar and Chalky.
  • Shock and Awe: He can channel his Fulmen element to great effect using a heavy combat staff.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Serves as the first proper boss of the story (with "Cinderella" being the combat tutorial boss and the first Werewolf being the open-world investigation tutorial boss), preventing the Detective from leaving the Constabulary. His move set, skills, and defenses will ensure the player can time parries, switch between characters to utilize combined element attacks, and utilize skills to keep characters in the fight or dealing heavy damage.

The Quartz Net
"Could this be the pinnacle of power? Is that all there is? Well then, the question now is—how may I break free of this trivial system?"
Rarity: 4★
Attribute: Outlaw
Element: TBA

Supposedly a secretary working for UMI, she has shown herself to wield great authority and knowledge in the industry—and is not above dirtying her hands with her whip and hidden blades if needed.
  • Kick Chick: Her playstyle revolves around pummeling enemies to death with the Silverium blades hidden in her shoes.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Stands out amongst the game's female cast for sex appeal given her shirt stretching over a large pair of breasts, a narrow waist, shorts hugging her hips, black pantyhose, and a Whip of Dominance to accentuate her sultry sadism.
  • Sexy Secretary: She's ostensibly a secretary for United Mining Industry, and is one of the most attractive characters in the game.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Much like fellow Femme Fatale Red Rose, she affects a sultry air as a self-proclaimed secretary, but can handle herself with a whip on the field. There's also the literal hiding part with her heels that can suddenly turn into long blades.

United Vormentum Works

    Vorsch

Vorsch

The factory boss of United Vormentum Works.
  • The Conspiracy: Breaking into his office at UVW's factory has the Detective finding a letter meant to be addressed to someone, calling for the "removal" of the Detective like what happened to the other laborers. It's the first concrete sign that there is someone or something pulling massive strings... and that the Detective may have caught their eye.
  • Obviously Evil: He's got the stereotypical opulent and fat appearance, red eyes, creepy grin, Goatee of Evil, and looking like the Penguin's cousin. Then there's his personal introduction to the Detective, which is to casually step into a room where someone was murdered, sit on the sofa, and, in a conversation loaded with hidden meanings, negotiates a bribery he can offer the Detective in exchange for whatever evidence was found.

    Romme

Dr. Romme

A suspect doctor formerly employed by UMI prior to the incident of the Nameless Ashes Case, the Detective tracks him down to Skea Private Hospital.
  • He Knows Too Much: Is killed by a hit squad sent to silence him and eliminate the Detective as well.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever happened that led to the Nameless Ashes Case, it involved Romme witnessing Cinderella in action for the first time and instilling such fear that he's more afraid of her than any hit squad sent to silence him.
Romme: She cannot find me! No...
  • Primal Fear: The mere sound of Cinderella's high heels, or seeing anyone that remotely looks like her, sends him panicking and running to find shelter. Then in comes Ashley...
  • Villain with Good Publicity: The first the Detective finds out about him is seeing the countless patients at his hospital, praising his magnanimity and prioritizing exhausted workers. Investigating UVW reveals he's responsible for creating a serum that mitigates Silvernium poisoning so that labourers can work longer until they're truly spent; the injector he used doesn't even have a proper needle, so all his "patients" were in for a time of pain on top of burns.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Romme is fatally wounded by the enemy spraying bullets into his office mere minutes after the Detective meets him. He is confirmed dead by Lorin once the Detective returns to the STATS office.

Others

    "Cinderella" (Spoilers)

Ashley

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/g_cahhxakaa5xlz.jpg
The Vengeful Ant
"You got what you deserved, and I am guilty as charged... Hahaha, we're perfect for each other!"
Rarity: 5★
Attribute: Hero
Element: Ignis

  • Animal Motifs: Continuing from her time as Ashley, Cinderella represents the will of fire ants, which are not only as strong and determined as the rest of their species, but are infamous for their stings capable of killing small animals larger than them, even humans in the right conditions. Likewise, as the ever-burning Cinderella, Ashley is determined to get back at those who wronged her, even if it means destruction for everything around her.
  • Early-Bird Boss: Her boss version shows up at the very beginning of the game to fight the Detective as part of the Action Prologue, fighting her as part of a combat tutorial in the first phase, and then taking those lessons to fight her second phase unassisted with a different move set.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Her voice lines show at present she despises lies and being lied to, partially stemming from her traumatic past, as well as from regrets when the Detective was being honest and truthful to her while she herself lied and deceived them to pursue her revenge.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Cinderella's eyes have pink irises with glowing blue slit pupils.
  • Fanservice Pack: Inverted. "The Golden Age of Detectives" and Gameplay Trailer showed her wearing far less fabric, which demonstrated Absolute Cleavage and Sideboob. In the first beta test and art released around that time, her top is slightly torn but fully conceals her breasts. Her legs still remain prominent and revealing though.
  • Leg Focus: Her dress's hem is well above her thighs and her execution animation as a boss and playable character is to literally Kick Them While They Are Down, which shows off her high heel coming down. With the cover-up of her chest, plenty of attention is bound to go to her bared legs and slippers.
  • My Greatest Failure: Cinderella shows regret over severing her relationships and connections to the genuine people on her side to pursue her revenge alone, leaving her lonely and spiteful until she is defeated by the Detective, at some point leading to...
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Cinderella's playable version joins the Detective and restores the partnership between them, willing to work alongside them and rein in her hatred of the abusive nobility and corporations she once lived under. The Detective in turn keeps her out of reach of said nobility and helps her regulate her new powers to return to a semi-normal life.
  • Playing with Fire: Lots of fire comes into play with her, especially when she drives around her flamethrowing carriage.
  • Power Of Hate: Her Silverium-riddled body is powered by "the flame within" stemming from her hatred of abusive nobility. Her playable version's calm demeanor only shows either around the Detective or when she has to actively suppress her emotions for the sake of civility. In battle, her abilities visibly increase in output when she lets her power run wild.
  • Revenge Before Reason: A major theme and flaw surrounding Cinderella, even having the title "The Vengeful Ant", and implied to be why she had a falling out and eventual fight with the Detective.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Downplayed; her profile states Cinderella had a partnership with the Detective for a common goal, but had a falling out when their goals strayed apart. When obtained as a playable character, her character menu animations show she does express some regret for letting things fall apart between them.
