Base game characters
Todd

- Is one with its mighty paddle.
- Frog Men: He is based on a frog.
- Quick Melee: His Heirloom Trinket causes faster and stronger melee attacks.
Hink

- Can shoot the shell off a Hermitster without batting an eye.
- Rugged Scar: While her personality has not explicitly been stated, she has a scar on one of her eyes (and it's even her Heirloom) and one would have to be a tough survivor to want to be sailing into the darkness to fight monsters.
- Sibling Team: She's been confirmed to be Quill's sister.
- Tentacle Hair: Being an octopus, it's a given.
Finley

- Uses its head, but doesn’t think much.
- The Ditz: His description highly implies this.
Gill

- Always seems to have a harpoon on hand.
Shelbie

- Returns everything it touches to its former luster.
Quill

- Has got an eye on you.
- Sibling Team: She is confirmed to be Hink's sister.
Lotte

- Isn’t worried by loss of limb.
Krillstoph

- Is as dangerous as it is delicious.
Betty

- Is quick to anger.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: She is shown to be a very choleric and easily angered girl. A post on X
even says that you would most certainly want to be kind to her if you don't want to tick her off. - Pain and Gain: Her ability comes from her being stunned, which causes her to become enraged and enter Rage Mode.
Cluck

- Believes it can fly.
- Animal Motifs: Birds, specifically chickens. His in-game sounds are very similar to the clucking of a chicken, he wears a hat akin to a fowl along with fake wings and he constantly lays eggs. Hell, his name's even Cluck!
- Egg-Laying Male: Is shown to be a male but he lays eggs.
DLC exclusive characters
Angus

- Has a bright future, but a dark past.
- Dark and Troubled Past: His description states that he has one, but it's not stated what his "dark past" was.
Jules

- Thrives under pressure.
- Named After Somebody Famous: With their vaguely steampunk-inspired design, it's likely that they are named after Jules Verne.
- Token Robot
Noh

- Has whiskers as pointed as a cat-ana.
Mikoi

- Mesmerizes with its beautiful scales in sea minor.
- Expy: She seems extremely similar to Hatsune Miku, almost uncannily so. Her name sounds similar to the Vocaloid's surname and her in-game noises sound very similar to her.
- Lighter and Softer: Since she just sings along to every song in the game, you'd expect the final boss track on the third phase would keep the Power Metal track, just with her singing along, right? Well you couldn't be more wrong: If playing as her, the final boss track's third phase is switched out for a cheerful J-pop track which quite frankly, doesn't really fit the mood of battling an Eldritch Abomination.
- Musical Assassin: Her ability sees her cause a resonance blast by singing, which causes any enemy caught up in the blast to take damage simultaneously.
- Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Is the only playable character to sport eyelashes.
Commodore Goldie

- Flaunts its wealth with pride, yet hides a heart of gold.
- Money Fetish: Her whole character is that she loves money, is extremely rich and not shy to show it.
- Pirate Girl: And a very fancy one at that.
- Wealth's in a Name: Her name is literally Commodore Goldie.
Hanha

- Relentlessly tracks the weak, leaving no bounty unclaimed.
- Bounty Hunter: His profession is hunting for just the right amount of money, no matter how weak they are.
- Hook Hand: He has one as part of his pirate attire.
- Piranha Problem: His species is a piranha and he is a fierce bounty hunter pirate.
Eelvis

- Shock and Roll!
- Elvis Impersonator: His "jolted stage presence", his description being a pun on the phrase "rock and roll" and right down to his name are clear signs of him being not only a genius, but a nod to the king of rock and roll.
- Mad Scientist: He is designed and themed after one.
- Psycho Electric Eel: He's an eel with electric abilities.
Gastropaul

- Has a heavy shell, but doesn't slow him down.
- Dumb Muscle: He's seemingly not a very smart Fool but he is said to be an absolute unit due to the resillience experiments he's apparently been subject to.
- Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: He can generate a shield from the electricity accumilated after rolling enough times.
- Speedy Snail: Downplayed. While he is certainly not super-fast, he indeed moves much faster than you'd expect from... well, a snail.
