Official Name: African National Congress, People's Republic of Azania (Civil war victory)
Ruling Party: African National Congress - Moderate Wing
Ideology: Authoritarian Democracy

  • The Alliance: The ANC can form the African Liberation Front with Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar and Zimbabwe, getting their help to win the civil war.
  • Landslide Election: The ANC will win the first post-Apartheid with more than 90% of the vote—unsurprisingly, since the blacks who make up their support base and who are finally allowed to vote after the end of Apartheid make up the majority of the country's population.
  • Please Select New City Name: The ANC gets rid of English and Afrikaans toponyms, replacing them with native ones. Port Elizabeth becomes Gqerbeha (as OTL), Port Natal becomes Durban, Johannesburg becomes eGoli, Bloemfontein becomes Manguang, Cape Town becomes Madiba City in honor of Nelson Mandela, Madiba being his nickname.
  • La Résistance: The ANC leads an insurgency against the Apartheid government and may start a civil war against the Junta to end it.
  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: As OTL, the Apartheid government refers to the ANC as terrorists while its supporters consider them freedom fighters against the Junta's racist dictatorship.

Ideology: Authoritarian Democracy, Social Democracy (Cave in to protests)

  • Breaking the Glass Ceiling: If Apartheid is fully abolished, Mbeki can become the first black leader of South Africa.
  • Cult of Personality: At the conclusion of his focus tree, Mbeki is heralded as the second father of the state.
  • Rebel Leader: Mbeki is the de facto political leader of the ANC since Mandela's imprisonment and de jure after his assassination, leading the fight against apartheid since.
  • The Revolution Will Not Be Vilified: If the ANC favors democratization or gives in to popular backlash against authoritarianism, Azania will find itself on the path to become a genuine democracy.

However, the Iraqi and Syrian factions of the Ba'ath Party fell into conflict over growing ideological difference; the Syrian Ba'athists remained mostly committed to socialism and secularism, while Iraq under Saddam has drifted towards a more right-wing and militaristic form of Ba'athism with some Sunni Islamist rhetoric.

Although conventional warfare lasted only 2 weeks, Vietnam has had to maintain an oversized armed force to fight off Khmer Rouge remnants for a decade, all while being sanctioned by most non-socialist countries. This took a heavy toll on the Vietnamese economy, causing the industrialisation plans of the 80s to fail.
