Characters who debuted in Panel de Pon (Super Famicom)

Lip

• The Cutie: Lip is young and innocent.
• Green Thumb: Lip is the Fairy representing Flowers.
• Not Quite Flight: Lip sits on a floating flower while she explains the modes you can select in Panel de Pon. She also has a flower that seems pulls her around after she throws it somehow with sparkles.
• Secret Test of Character: The entirety of Panel de Pon's story was actually Lip's mother, the queen of fairies, trying to find the right fairy to make the new queen. In the bad ending Lip decides that she's not ready and turns her mother's offer down.
• Signature Headgear: The bow of Lip.
• We Cannot Go On Without You: In the SNES game, losing a story mode match with Lip results in a game over, while losing with anyone else just results in that character being eliminated from your party and having to pick someone else. Losing a match with Lip will also lock the player into the game's bad ending.

Watabou the Fluffy

• Cartoon Creature: Watabou the Fluffy; Lip's furry flying companion who she's seen with in the title screen of the SNES game.

Sherbet

• Elemental Hair Composition: Sherbet has hair that looks like spiky ice formations.
• An Ice Person: She is the Fairy representing Ice.

Elias

• Fog Feet: Elias has normal feet, but her lower body transforms into a cyclone during her attacking animation. One of her official artworks◊ evokes this, too.
• Gender-Blender Name: There's the water fairy Elias, who has a traditionally male name but is actually a girl. A very feminine girl.
• Making a Splash: Fairy of Water Elias, whom a whirlpool forms around before she drops garbage blocks.

Ruby

• Gemstone Assault: The Fairy of Jewels, Ruby. Jewels circle her head before she drops garbage blocks.
• Winged Humanoid: Ruby has four semi-transparent wings.

Thiana

• Green Thumb: She happens to be the Fairy representing Nature.

Windy

• Level in the Clouds: Her stage consists of clouds solid enough to walk on and build houses on.

Seren

• Disc-One Final Boss: She's the last fairy to be freed before the fairies decide to take the fight to the monsters' turf.
• Lunacy: The existence of the Fairy of the Moon, Seren, makes the moon supernatural.
• Meaningful Name: Seren, the Fairy of the Moon, has that name because "Selene" is Greek for "moon" and was the name of the Greek goddess of the celestial body.
• Noblewoman's Laugh: Fitting for a woman who looks like a noble princess.
• Sirens Are Mermaids: Referenced by Neris, a mermaid-like fairy whose name means "siren" backwards and who is said to like singing.

Neris

• Our Mermaids Are Different: Neris is a fairy, but has a fish tail in place of legs, making her look like a mermaid.
• Sdrawkcab Name: "Neris"'s name is "siren" spelled backwards.
• Seashell Bra: Neris wears seashells as a bra.

Phoenix

• Feathered Fiend: Phoenix is perfectly willing to beat up on little fairy girls (even if he is an illusion).
• Final Boss: Only on Easy difficulty. The game will tell you to challenge harder difficulties afterwards.

Thanatos

• Everybody Hates Hades: Thanatos's portrayal in the Super Famicom Panel de Pon though he is not the real one in the first game.
• Femme Fatalons: When it comes to the Gamecube game's version of Thanatos, it is most definitely his nails.
• Final Boss: If played on Normal difficulty, Thanatos is the final opponent Lip and friends face.
• Final Boss Preview: In Stage Clear mode, Thanatos shows up for a one-shot challenge after you clear stage 3.
• Gag Lips: Thanatos has quite the thick lips, especially in the Gamecube game.
• Gemstone Assault: Thanatos's garbage blocks are themed around the rings of Saturn.
• Horned Humanoid: Thanatos is depicted as a horned being. In the Super Famicom version he also has spiked shoulders.
• Pre-Final Boss: While he serves as the Final Boss for the Normal difficulty, defeating him on Hard or Hardest difficulty presents the player with Cordelia afterwards.
• This Cannot Be!: In the original Japanese version of the first game, Thanatos is left perplexed when the player beats him:
  Thanatos: ...I lost? This cannot be happening! Hwaaaaaaa!!!

Cordelia

• Luke, I Am Your Father: Cordelia turns out to be Lip's Missing Mom — even though it hadn't previously been established that she had a Missing Mom!
• Magical Girl Queenliness Test: If you complete the Hard Mode in Panel de Pon, it's revealed by the goddess Cordelia (Lip's mother) that the events of the entire game were a test to see if Lip had the strength to become the new Queen of the fairies. If you complete it without continues, Lip passes the test; if you used a continue, Lip says she's not strong enough to be queen.
• Noblewoman's Laugh: Her laugh is a slowed down version of Seren's.
• True Final Boss: Cordelia's existence in Panel de Pon is entirely unhinted at outside of Hard difficulty VS. Mode (AKA Story Mode). With Thanatos already presented as the Final Boss of Stage Clear Mode, VS. Mode gives him the ceremony you'd expect of holding the same position there. Cordelia's character bio doesn't even appear in Attract Mode and the option to look at bios freely is locked away in the unused Options menu. This is used twice not only for Cordelia, but Thanatos as well. For first time players, this likely gave the impression that Thanatos was the evil mastermind behind everything in Panel de Pon, but defeating him reveals that Cordelia was The Goddess Behind the Demon King all along.
• Walking Spoiler: Her mere existence and her true identity are big spoilers.
• Winged Humanoid: The human-like Corderia seen in the GCN game has bird like wings.

Characters who debuted in Panel de Pon (GCN)

Furil

• Bash Brothers: She and Kain can team up and combine their garbage blocks to pile on opponents.
• The Cutie: Furil is as little and kind and cute as her precursor Lip.
• Floating in a Bubble: Furil while she explains whatever mode you may want to play. She also uses a bubble to transport the fairies too and from the sun.
• Green Thumb: Furil's just like Lip and Rinze as she can hit opponents with leaves.
• Reused Character Design: While most of the fairies from the sequel look very much like their counterparts from the previous game, Furil looks like Lip if she were a few years younger.

Pupuri

• Blush Sticker: Pupuri stands out for having permanent pink cheek marks.
• Cartoon Creature: Furil's pet Pupuri is a cute koala rabbit.

Kain

• Badass Cape: Kain wears a cape, and he helps Furil triumph in the end game
• Fiery Lion: He gets turned into a lion with a flaming mane and tail tip as one of the opponents you face in the story mode.
• Forced Transformation: He is a victim of this, first appearing as Lion.
• Meaningful Name: In Gaelic mythology "Kain" is a sacrifice one can make to prove themselves worthy of using magic. That is exactly what Kain is, only instead of being killed he was made holy by being transformed into a servile Beast of Battle, suggesting the witches already had magic and had no good reason to do this.
• The One Guy: Kain is the only male on Furil's assembled team of fairies.
• Weird Sun: Lion, actually Kain, lives in a pyramid built on its surface.

Think

• Elemental Hair Composition: Think has "hair" which is definitely made out of ice, though more rounded like igloo blocks.
• An Ice Person: Think can make ice shards spring up under opponents.

Pure

• Gemstone Assault: Pure hits opponents with shiny precious stones.
• Not Quite Flight: Pure sits on a floating crystal, which plants in the ground if she loses.

Cecil

• Gender-Blender Name: Cecil's name sounds guy-ish, but she is really a female.
• Making a Splash: Cecil attacks with bubbles, which may or may not be this trope, but is also water based.

Rinze

• Girlish Pigtails: Rinze from has rather long braided pigtails.

Rayea

• Lethal Lava Land: Rayea's puzzle battle takes place on a land filled with lava. Yet there's still a platform for our protagonist to safely confront her on.

Sala

• Light 'em Up: Sala appears to bring Star Power down on opponents; whatever it is, it's also this trope.

Nathia

• Making a Splash: Nathia can make water erupt under opponents, even if they are already underwater.
• Our Mermaids Are Different: Nathia is a fairy, but she has a fish's body instead of a human's lower one, making her look more like a mermaid instead.
• Seashell Bra: Nathia wears seashells as a bra.

Sophia

• Shock and Awe: Sophia calls down lightning on opponents.
• Sky Surfing: Sophia does this on a cloud.

KickChop

• I Was Beaten by a Girl: KickChop finds himself in disbelief that he was beaten by a little girl after losing to Furil.
• Multiple Headcase: KickChop, the two headed dragon is one of the monsters you must face.
• Our Dragons Are Different: KickChop is very different from Dragon, who was in the preceding game and had only one head unlike KickChop.

Joker

• The Dragon: Joker is second in command to Thanatos, though Thanatos is not the main enemy if one plays on higher difficulties.
• Femme Fatalons: Joker sports these, though they might just be how his gloves look.
• Multi-Armed Multitasking: Joker uses two arms to play a clarinet and two more to play and accordion.
• Musical Assassin: Joker can blast fairies by playing his accordion.

Zilba

• Evil Knockoff: It is not Zilba who is the knockoff, but he battles Furil and Kain through a shadowy clone of the former called 'Dark Furil'.
• Flying Seafood Special: He is a flying whale.

Wicked Witch Trio

• Forced Transformation: Mangari, Mingiri and Hindari can transform fairies into things like dolls, though they will quickly shake it off.
• Human Ladder: Mangari, Mingiri and Hindari stand on top of one another when serving as the collective Final Boss.
• Incredible Shrinking Man: After being defeated for good, all three get shrunk and end up the mercy of a frog they've become smaller than.
• Just Desserts: The witch trio gets shrunk after their defeat and a hungry frog happens to be nearby...
• True Final Boss: Magical whale Zilba is the final boss after you defeat Cordelia, but in Hard difficulty and up... Three Witch Sisters are actually this and you get the chance to defeat the trio as payback for taking Zilba's magical eyes.
