Introduced in Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, Treeya is an asari scientist whom Liara mentored before joining the Fehl Prime colony. An anthropologist sharing Liara's interest in the Protheans, she acts as James' love interest and plays an integral part in learning the Reapers' history by using her natural biotics to interface with a Collector ship. Still, when she risks dying along with the obtained Reaper data, James sacrifices the rest of the colony to save her, leaving them both guilt-ridden.

  • All for Nothing: James saves her both because of his romantic feelings for her, but also to obtain the Collector data that was about to be destroyed with her. However, Shepard destroying the Collector Base means that his sacrifice was basically pointless.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She begins the film rather aloof, seeing James as a meathead who has no respect for her work and coldly brushing him off. Over the course of the Collector attack, she begins to warm to him after seeing his dedication and cleverness, eventually appearing to return his romantic intentions, though they're never shown becoming an Official Couple.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: James has to choose between saving her and the Collector data or saving the colonists from the crashing ship. He chooses the former, much to her chagrin.
  • Maybe Ever After: James never mentions her by name in the third game, and while he's also rather offput and awkward when a female Shepard makes romantic jabs at him (in the Citadel DLC, she literally has to get him nearly blackout drunk to finally coerce him into sleeping with her), implying he still has feelings for Treeya, they're never shown officially reuniting.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She says this nearly verbatim upon returning to Fehl Prime after the Collector attack, overwhelmed with guilt and sadness at the sight of all the death and destruction.
  • The Needs of the Many: She attempts to pull this to convince James to let her die in exchange for saving the colonists, but it doesn't work.
  • Survivor Guilt: She feels extremely guilty over James' decision to save her rather than the Fehl Prime colonists, breaking down into wailing tears upon seeing the wrecked aftermath of the ship's crash.
  • Reentry Scare: After being pulled into space from a breach in the Collector ship's airlock, she begins falling toward Fehl Prime in a Collector pod from a great enough height to begin burning up in the atmosphere. By the time James rescues her, she's suffered enough injuries to be forced to walk with a crutch the next time she's seen.
  • Thrown Out the Airlock: The Collectors eject her into space in order to avoid her asari DNA contaminating their harvest of human DNA, resulting in James having to sacrifice the colonists to save her.
  • Touch Telepathy: Her natural asari biotics allow her to interface with the Collector ship's mainframe without dying, unlike human biotics. The Cerberus operative Messner uses her to download information on the Reapers to a data module that is later pulled into space with Treeya, leading to James having to sacrifice the colony to save her.
