• Anti-Hero: Sayeon, the central protagonist, often makes decisions that are morally questionable, but are driven by what she perceives as the greater good or necessary outcome. Although her goal is to reform society and make the world a better place, her actions to achieve this are often manipulative and morally ambiguous.
• Badass Bookworm: Even before being in the Aberrant Corps, Sayeon was extremely studious and the top of her class. Her intelligence and observational skills is what allows her to use her gift to its full potential, carrying her team to victory during capture the flag.
• Brains and Brawn: The brains to Min's brawn.
• Curtains Match the Window: Her eyes and hair are the exact same shade of navy blue. She shares this trait with her older sister, Samin.
• Crush Blush: After her sister, Samin, murdered Mr.Baek, she blamed Sayeon for it, causing her to isolate herself from the guilt. She's refused to form connections with anyone else ever since then. However, she allowed one exception— the delinquent Jaeil. It's heavily implied that she had a crush on him, as she's always seen with a Luminescent Blush whenever he's around. She even blushes when given the opportunity to call him.
• Dramatic Irony: Sayeon's initial justification for participating in the Aberrant Corps is that they are akin to law enforcement and she can still make a positive change in the world by joining, but from chapter 2 we know that Jaeil was murdered by the Aberrant Corps, and Ryujin confirms that they were responsible for it. The Corps are far from the justice Sayeon initially had in her head.
• Foil: To Ryujin.
• Freudian Excuse:
• Heroic BSoD: Sayeon undergoes one of these when she finds out that Jaeil's disappearance was really due to him being murdered by Officer Ahn, with the approval of the Aberrant Corps.
• I Just Want to Be Normal: Sayeon doesn't like her aberrancy, referring to it as a curse. Which is why she's deeply irate to learn that her mother, Sara, chose to become an aberrant by becoming the Godling's champion
• I Surrender, Suckers!: Sayeon asks Tsubaki to call off the Capture-the-flag match after being stabbed through the abdomen with Jungwoo's essence spear. When Tsubaki moves closer to Sayeon to hear her better, Sayeon takes the opportunity to snatch the flag out of her hand.
• Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: During the last Capture the Flag match, as Sayeon is about to take Tsubaki's flag, Jungwoo, desperate to prevent Cell 4's victory, throws his spear at her, brutally impaling her through the stomach.
• Internal Reformist: After finding out about what happened to Jaeil, Sayeon realizes the only way she can keep going is by climbing the ranks of the Corps and changing the Aberrant Corps from the inside.

• Teach Me How To Fight: In Ep 21, when Sayeon is first figuring out the extents of her gift, she asks Min to train her how to fight with essence so she can at the very least defend herself a little bit.

At the start, she could only rewind 20 seconds, but after the Capture the Flag exercise and as she grows stronger, she is able to rewind a little more than 20 seconds. Because no one knows about her actual ability, she uses her gift to gather information by playing out a scenario several times, then forming a strategy to reach her goal, making it incredibly useful for team battles.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: While Sayeon wants to change the world for the better, her methods of obtaining her goals include constantly lying to her cellmates, stealing from innocent people, and holding a child at knifepoint.
• White Sheep: Sayeon's entire family are high ranking criminals in the underworld. Samin is the leader of the Crimson Society, and both her mother and father had ties to the Sea Wolves, with her mother being the vice president and her father presumably being another high ranking member of the organization. Sayeon is the only one who desires to change the world for the better, despising her family's background.

Ryujin Kang

Age: 18

  • In one Q&A, she revealed each of Cell 4's heights, Myers-Briggs Type Indicators, birthdays, and secret talents. Ryujin is around 156 cm (5'1), is an ISTP (Virtuoso), was born on October 3rd, and can play all three movements of Gaspard De La Nuit on the piano.
  • The Q&A also mentions that if she wasn't an aberrant, she'd have a job as a concert pianist.
• Ambiguously Gay:
• Berserk Button: In Ep 47, Sayeon stomps on her cap in an attempt to get Ryujin to show what she can do. Ryujin, enraged, knocks Sayeon out before she can react or turn back time.
• Blood Magic: Ryujin's true gift, Blood Manipulation. It gives her the freedom to control and solidify her own blood, both inside and outside of her body.
• Can't Hold Her Liquor: Ryujin has an extremely low alcohol tolerance, as she passes out after drinking one bottle of liquor.
• Dark and Troubled Past: Ryujin grew up in the Concordant and was raised by other Aberrants. The Gyeon Clan sent a member to destroy her home, killing everyone she loved. Ryujin murdered him, and was sent to prison for that reason. She suffered there for a year, and her anger and cynical personality stems from there.
• Disappeared Dad: While her mother, Raon, was at least present during her childhood, she doesn’t remember her father at all, and there is no indication that he was ever a part of her life. The way that Raon talks about him implies that he might’ve abandoned her.
• Embarrassing Nickname: Baldie, courtesy of Sayeon. Sayeon, realizing that she had never seen Ryujin without her baseball cap, asked her why she was so insistent on wearing it. Ryujin refused to answer, so Sayeon assumed she was hiding something embarrassing under it— namely, a bald spot.
• Exotic Eye Designs: Ryujin’s eyes have a ring in the middle of their irises, which makes them an uncanny resemblance to Godling eyes. Justified, as in Episode 93, we learn that she has a rare eye condition called Lucy’s Eyes. Nobody knows exactly what causes Lucy’s Eyes, but all of those affected do have a Godling somewhere in their ancestry. Ryujin likely inherited the condition from her mother, Raon.
• Foil: To Sayeon.
• Hellhole Prison: For a full year in prison, Ryujin's essence cuff was set to the max, draining her Essence. She describes it having no energy to move or even think, and it "just felt like hell all the time". It was bad enough when Ryujin used her essence again to escape the warehouse, she coughs up blood.
• It's Personal:
  • Though Ryujin has sworn to kill every officer, the Gyeon Clan was the one responsible for destroying her home, so Ryujin developed a personal grudge against them.
  • She also hates Officer Ahn for conscripting her.
• Just Got Out of Jail: Ryujin was drafted into the Corps straight out of prison against her will.
• Parental Abandonment: Justified. Her mother, Raon, leaves Ryujin in one of the Concordant Nests and never comes back. However, she put her there for her own safety—Raon was getting hunted down by her old syndicate and thought that it was too dangerous to continue staying with her.
• Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Ryujin is the shortest of the group at 5'1" (156 cm), compared to Sayeon at 5'6" (167 cm), Iseul at 5'10" (178 cm), Min at 6'1" (185 cm). She's tiny, but she's one of the strongest in her group and has one of the most powerful gifts, Blood Manipulation. She comments in Ep 54 that if you abuse your powers enough, it can cause a growth spurt, which might be why she's so short.
• Magical Gesture: She occasionally makes a Finger Gun when using her gift.
• Signature Headgear: Ryujin often wears a white baseball cap, which was once patched up by Jiwon, a girl who looked after Ryujin before being killed by the Corps.
• Strong Family Resemblance: When she was younger, Ryujin looked exactly the same as her mother, Raon, and they both had the same gift—Blood Manipulation. However, her hairstyle changed after she grew up— while Raon's hair was chest length, Ryujin's hair is much shorter, only coming up to her chin. It's implied that her hair was cut during her time in prison.
• Tsurime Eyes:
• Traumatic Haircut: Implied. Ryujin is always seen with long hair in flashbacks, including the day the officer destroyed her Nest. She’s only seen with short hair after she was sent to prison. Presumably, she had her hair cut there.
• Troubled Backstory Flashback:
  • During Capture the Flag, Taeho throws a bomb toward Ryujin. She freezes, realizing he has the same gift that destroyed her home.
  • In Ep 64, Sayeon asks if Ryujin's refusal to activate her gift is because she is actually unable to. However, Ryujin denies it. She then has a flashback to when she killed the officer, and her hand is covered in blood. It implies that Ryujin's refusal to use her gift was related to trauma.

Iseul Kim

Age: 18

  • In one Q&A, she revealed each of Cell 4's heights, Myers-Briggs Type Indicators, birthdays, and secret talents. Iseul is around 178 cm (5'10), is an ENFP (Campaigner), was born on April 4th, and is an excellent midfielder in soccer.
  • The Q&A also mentions that if he wasn't an aberrant, he'd have a job as a barista.
• Awesome, but Impractical: Downplayed. Iseul's able to use telekinesis, and there's no restriction on how many objects he can carry— but there is a restriction on what types of items he can carry. Iseul can't lift items heavier than 50 pounds (which eliminates most people), making the scope of his gift pretty narrow. This rule seems pretty inconsequential at first, but his gift is extremely situational as a result— make him fight in an open field or empty tunnel without any assorted junk or debris to levitate, and he's practically useless. So while his gift is easy to use, it's limitations means that it can only be effectively used in very narrow situations.
• Early-Bird Cameo: He's seen in the crowd during the trainee orientation in episode 5. He gets a proper introduction the very next episode.
• Curtains Match the Window: Iseul's got gold hair and eyes.
• Magical Gesture: He claps his hands to activate his gift, Telekinesis.
• Mind Over Matter: Iseul's gift is a form of telekinesis, he can levitate objects but with restrictions - He can't lift things over 50 pounds (as of now), and he can't pull things out of someone's grip.
• Wide-Eyed Idealist: Iseul is the most positive one out of Cell 4. He was the first one to initiate icebreakers, and mentioned that his parents were also Aberrant Corps. He has a very positive view of the Corps and aspires to be a high ranking officer. He also considers his aberrancy to be the best thing to ever happen to him.

White (Min Woo)

• Laser Blade: He has the ability to form Essence blades around his arms, which are sharp enough to cut through human limbs upon contact. However, he usually employs only one blade to conserve his Essence.

• The Stoic: Min lacks any sort of emotion and wears an extremely blank expression at all times. He doesn't laugh, get angry, or even bat an eye when he gets hurt. It is later revealed that he is Samin's spy, sent to protect Sayeon. When he reports back to Samin, he expresses confusion as for why Samin bothers with Sayeon. Though not much, it's the most emotion we get out of him in the series thus far.
• Superhuman Trafficking:
• Supreme Chef: Min's an amazing chef, especially when it comes to pastries. He's able to make killer banana bread, and according to a Q&A, has a 100% macaron baking success rate.

Taeho Gyeon

• Early-Bird Cameo: He makes a brief appearance during the trainee orientation in Episode 4, but is later introduced along with Jungwoo during the Capture the Flag arc.
• Fireballs: He has the ability to create fireballs that explode on command. However, they can be slashed apart by Min Woo's blades, neutralizing their explosions.
• Having a Blast: His fireballs can explode at will.

Dahee Eun

Age: 18

Essence Color: Orange

• Apologetic Attacker: Apologizes to Sayeon after she kicks her into the floor during the first Capture the Flag match.
• Early-Bird Cameo: In episode 6, she appears multiple times in the crowd during the trainee orientation. She's later introduced with Tsubaki in episode 8.
• Flight: Dahee's Gift gives her a pair of wings that allow her to fly. She can also use her gift on other entities, granting them flight, as seen when she takes Taeho to the infirmary in episode 34. However, this gives her complete control of their movement in return. Currently, though, it seems like she can't apply her gift to more than one object at a time.
• Genki Girl: Dahee is quite energetic and talks a lot, especially when she's nervous. She's also noted to be unusually cheerful for a trainee.
• Rose-Haired Sweetie: She's a friendly, upbeat Nice Girl with pink hair. Her bubbly, kind-hearted nature was even able to get the Jerkass Taeho to warm up to her (albeit not much.)
• The Speedster: Dahee can reach incredible speeds with her gift. In episode 30, she's able to blitz Sayeon and Iseul during their Capture the Flag match, snatching their flag away before they even had time to react.

Jungwoo Do

Tsubaki Sumishiro

• Cool Big Sis: Played Straight, but then Inverted. While Sayeon originally admired and trusted her big sister, it all changed after Samin killed her friend's father, Changseop Baek, right in front of her, and then proceeded to blame her for it. This led to Sayeon hating Samin's criminal activities and rejecting any attempt of her sister trying to look out for her.
• Curtains Match the Window: Her eyes and hair are the exact same shade of navy blue. She shares this trait with her younger sister, Sayeon.
• Big Sister Instinct: Samin dotes over Sayeon, even though Sayeon dislikes her for who she is. When Sayeon first joins the Corps, she writes in her letter that if Sayeon chooses to leave, she will always be there for her. Samin also mentions that her love for her sister surpasses everything, and without love, nothing matters anymore. She's the one that sent Min to watch over Sayeon, after all.

• Bad Liar: After missing an important meeting, he attempts to excuse his absence to Minnie by saying he was stuck in traffic. She sees right through him for two reasons— Number 1: He’s completely soaked from the rain outside, and Number 2: He doesn’t own a car.
• Can't Hold His Liquor: He's banned from drinking liquor at the Underside's bar. Supposedly, the last time he drank, he got absolutely smashed and punched the crap out of Minnie's and his last client, violating the Underside peace treaty.
• Combo Platter Powers: His gift allows him to summon a sword out of his essence. However, it can also fire intangible slashes that explode on command.
• Cool Mask: When in public, he's seen wearing a mask in the shape of a pig. It covers both his head and face, obscuring his eyes. Presumably, he wears it to hide his identity.
• Fantastic Racism: In a flashback, it’s shown that he was bullied during grade school because of his aberrancy. Situations like this are seemingly commonplace because of how normalized aberrant racism is.

• Wouldn't Hurt a Child:
  • Jiwook has a soft spot for kids and lets them go during his criminal activities. This is shown in the very beginning of the series when he brutally kills prosecutor Jieun Bo, but decides to spare her children. This is never shown on screen, but a news reporter covering the murder later states that her children were left unharmed during the attack.
  • This is also shown when he lets Sayeon and Ryujin go in the warehouse, commenting that they remind him of his younger brother.

Minnie

Essence Color: Blue

• All There in the Manual: According to a Q&A, if she wasn't an aberrant, she'd have a job as a hairdresser.
• Boring, but Practical: Heron notes that Minnie would make for a boring duel, as her gift, Shield Generation, has no offensive abilities. Besides, she doesn't specialize in combat— she's a detector, meaning that she trains in essence tracking instead. However, while Minnie's abilities aren't suited for attacking, they're more than useful for defense. She's widely considered The Begonia's strongest defensive aberrant because of both her gift and detector status, and the Corps ranks her as a level 8 aberrant criminal, meaning that they consider her a big threat.
• Cool Mask: When in public, she's seen wearing a light grey mask that resembles a mouse, presumably to hide her identity.
• Curtains Match the Window: Her hair and eyes are both light gray.
• Deflector Shields: Minnie's gift gives her the ability to generate shields out of her essence. These shields are also quite durable, they were able to block Black's fire breath without so much as a scratch.

Gyumin Yoo (Heron)

• Fingore: Sayeon manages to ambush Heron by dropping a cooking pot on his head, and then takes the opportunity to sever his fingers with a meat cleaver, leaving him with nothing but four bloody stumps on his hands. Heron never fully recovers from this— he was able to reattach his pinky and ring fingers, but currently, both his index and middle fingers are still missing.

Mr.Gwak (Father Hope)

• Big Sister Instinct:
  • Yesol is quite protective towards Changsub— she tries to keep him safe by insisting that he stay in the Nest, as the Concordant would be able to guard him there. If he were and the Aberrant Corps would likely ice him if they caught him wandering around by himself.
• Curtains Match the Window: She's a brunette with brown eyes.
• Lady Looks Like a Dude: She gets mistaken for a man by Mr.Bak when he's convincing Juni to spare her.
• Tomboyness Upgrade: In appearance only. Yesol looked a lot more feminine when she was younger— her attire consisted of light, pastel colored dresses and her hair was much longer, reaching all the way down to her waist. When we see her in the present, her hair is cut short and she's ditched the dresses for suits and hoodies. She even gets mistaken for a man by Mr.Bak.
• You Killed My Father: It's revealed in a flashback that Captain Han killed her father right before her very eyes. She wasn't able to do anything to protect him, and carried an immense amount of guilt from the incident as a result. Later, when the head of the Sea Wolves came to her Nest, offering her a position inside of his gang, she initially refused. However, the head then made a promise with her— if she joined his syndicate, she would be able to enact revenge against her father's murderer. Seeing as Yesol is part of the Sea Wolves now, it's safe to say that she hasn't given up on revenge just yet.

• Blood Magic: Raon’s gift, Blood Manipulation, gives her the freedom to control and solidify her own blood, both inside and outside of her body. She uses it to kill Bones by encasing him with her blood and then transforming it into numerous spikes, completely tearing him apart.
• Does Not Like Men: Raon absolutely despises men, to the point where tells her young daughter that they all deserve to die. However, her hatred for them stems from how unreliable they were to her— every man she started a relationship with promised to take care of her and her child, only to abandon her later. However, it’s unknown whether each of her partners left because they genuinely didn’t want her anymore or because of how…unstable she was.

• Exotic Eye Designs: Raon’s eyes have a ring in the middle of their irises, and they bear an uncanny resemblance to Godling eyes. Justifed, as we learn that she has a rare eye condition called Lucy’s Eyes. Nobody knows exactly what causes Lucy’s Eyes, but the all those affected do have a Godling somewhere in their ancestry. She seemingly passed down the condition to her daughter, Ryujin.
• Parental Abandonment: Justified. She leaves Ryujin in one of the Concordant Nests and never comes back. However, she put her there for her own safety—Raon was getting hunted down by her old syndicate and thought that it was too dangerous to stay with her.
• Strong Family Resemblance: When she was younger, Ryujin looked exactly the same as her mother, Raon, and they both had the same gift—Blood Manipulation. However, her hairstyle changed after she grew up— while Raon's hair was chest length, Ryujin's hair is much shorter, only coming up to her chin. It's implied that her hair was cut during her time in prison.
