• And Then John Was a Zombie: When they're fighting Worker!Uka in Moka's "movie," Hifumi and Moka quickly find themselves utterly defenseless against Uka's powers and are about to turn into zombies and die. But then as it just so happens, Karin reveals that her abilities as a vampire gives her a natural immunity to the workers, and she promptly bites both Hifumi and Moka to save their lives. Since this only happens in the movie and thus isn't real, the effects of this are not permanent.
• Badass Minds Think Alike: They'd never admit it, but the two of them have a lot of things in common and they have the same mindset as fixers.
• Determinator: Both Hifumi and Moka refuse to give up. Ever.
• Fire-Forged Friends: To say that Hifumi and Moka get off on the wrong foot is a massive understatement, but as they continually go up against adversity, they become staunch allies with deep respect for each other, even if they don't exactly stop their bickering.
• Vitriolic Best Buds: Eventually, their dynamic mellows out into this. Hifumi and Moka bicker a lot and constantly make jokes at the other's expense. Nevertheless, there's a strong camaraderie between the duo and they will have each other's back through thick-and-thin.

Hifumi Kagome

Primary: Iron Body

Secondary: Cut-All Blade

The male protagonist. A snarky, moody, but experienced Fixer who has been living in New Town even before Fafrotskies. His secondary is the Cut-All Blade, a toy sword capable of cutting through anything^note Except for maybe the "Uncuttable Shield", but no one's willing to try it out of fear of creating a paradox, but loses its sharpness after being used once and needs to be returned to its sheathe and drawn out in order to be used again.

• Affectionate Nickname: His close friends all call him "Hifumin."
• The Comically Serious: Hifumi is constantly trying to keep up the "stoic badass" act even in situations that don't at all call for it.
• Dark and Troubled Past: Unsurprisingly for someone who lived through Fafrotskies, Hifumi suffered traumatic experiences in his childhood. His family's beloved guardian, Shiro, sacrificed his life for Hifumi and he blames himself for Shiro's death. To make matters worse, Hifumi's friends had their memory wiped and none of them remember who he is.
• Deadpan Snarker: He almost immediately starts giving Moka lip service the moment he finds out she's his partner.
• Defence Mechanism Superpower: Iron Body's passive ability, "Steel Daruma" instantly activates when Hifumi is about to be killed, causing his entire body to harden like steel. It only lasts a few seconds, but it's enough to save his life when he needs it. The downside is that Hifumi can't move when it's active.
• Defrosting Ice King: He and Moka do not start out on a good foot, but Moka gradually starts to earn his respect. Not that he would admit it. Probably the most blatant example comes in chapter 61. Right before April 4, Shuka tells Hifumi to take care of Moka for her. Hifumi corrects her, saying that he'll be relying on her, not the other way around. Quite the far cry from the Tsundere he was introduced as.
• Heroic RRoD: Whenever he uses Iron Body, Hifumi automatically gets sleepy from the stress exerted on his body.
• Iaijutsu Practitioner: His Secondary, the Cut-All Blade, works based on this gimmick. After unsheathing it can be used to cut anything, once, before becoming a harmless toy sword which then has to be resheathed to regain its ability.
• I Just Want to Be Badass: Hifumi's whole reason for wanting to be a Fixer is that he thought being able to fight would make him look cool. When he finds out about the real reason behind Moka's arrival at New Town, Hifumi wants to help her save the world because he thinks it would make him look cool. When Karin confesses to him, although Hifumi admits that he isn't sure if he likes her or not, he decides that he wants to look cool for her. Once his past is revealed, this trait takes on a far more tragic note. Hifumi wants to be "cool" because he wants to be like Shiro and blames himself for his friend's death.
• Ineffectual Loner: On account of his Tsundere tendencies, Hifumi often pushes people away, but becomes close friends with them nevertheless.
• I Work Alone: In the first couple of chapters, he gives Moka a lot of crap since he would much rather work alone. Of course, he eventually warms up to her.
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Hifumi can be aloof, rude, and abrasive, particularly when it comes to his partner Moka. Underneath all of that, Hifumi is a genuinely empathetic kid who cares about the people around him and wants to do right by them.
• Kindhearted Cat Lover: Hifumi seems to have a soft spot for cats, but he goes back on it the moment Moka teases him about it.
• My Greatest Failure: From his perspective at least, Hifumi hates himself for "running away" after Shiro sacrificed himself to save him from Ikaruga. Obviously Hifumi was just a kid and there's nothing he could have done, but Hifumi is determined to never feel the way he did all those years ago.
• Nigh-Invulnerability: His passive skill, "Steel Daruma", makes it so that Iron Body will activate automatically and nullify fatal damage to him, but this only lasts for a hit, and in the case of being smashed by a Jizo still means he gets burrowed underground by it and bleeds from his head.
• Oblivious to Love: Hifumi is entirely clueless about Karin's massive and blatant crush on him.
• One Degree of Separation: With Moka. Moka was friends with Shiro in the future and she originally planned to partner up with him when she traveled back in time.
• Smoking Is Cool: Invoked. Hifumi seemingly makes an active effort to look the part of a "smoking badass", but it's undercut by the fact that they're candy cigarettes. Though it is noted that his candy cigarettes change their flavor a bit whenever his environment's cis value drops, meaning that they're not just for appearances.
• Super-Strength: Hifumi's Primary, Iron Body, drastically increases the strength of his body, allowing for enhanced offense and defense. The problem, however, is that it has the nasty side effect of making him fall asleep whenever he uses it.
• Touched by Vorlons: Hifumi gained his primary ability when he was exposed to the outpouring of ghosts during Fafrotskies.
• Tsundere: Very much so with Moka. After Moka seriously helps him take down the snail ghost at their school, Hifumi kinda acknowledges her in his own roundabout way, but backs out when Moka teases him about it.
• Vitriolic Best Buds: To say that Hifumi and Moka get off on the wrong foot is a massive understatement. At the start, the two of them are constantly bickering with each other, yet as time goes on they undeniably become friends with a lot of respect for each other (not that it causes them to bicker any less).
• The Worf Effect: The passive aspect of Hifumi's Iron Body, Steel Daruma, makes it practically impossible to deal lethal damage to him, to the point that even the Big Bad Ikaruga decides to hold off on killing him because his primary would make it difficult. When Hifumi fights a zombified Uka in Moka's "movie," Uka casually cuts off his arm like it's nothing because her attacks just have that much firepower.

Moka Kirarazaka

Primary: Ghost Shift

Secondary: Gargantuan Stomach

The female protagonist. An enthusiastic yet pragmatic rookie who comes from a famous line of Shinto priests. Her secondary is the Gargantuan Stomach, a suitcase with infinite (or at least very large) storage space with 1000 storage slots depending on the 3 digit combination that Moka puts in.

• Absurd Phobia: For one reason or another, she seems to be terrified of bugs.
• Always Someone Better: Moka's hinted to feel this way towards her older sisters, Uka and Shuka. Moka's powers are not weak by any means, but Ghost Shift isn't as overtly destructive as what her sisters are capable of either. Ironically enough, Moka's powers are the reason why she's the only one who can go back in time.
• Bag of Holding: Gargantuan Stomach. It goes above most cases due to having 1000 storage slots.
• Bottomless Magazines: Her "Infinite Bullets" gun. It's an auto-looping submachine gun, which means that every four seconds the gun and everything in it will loop back to how it was four seconds ago. It normally stores 30 rounds, but it effectively has infinite ammo as it returns to being a fully-loaded gun every four seconds.
• Closest Thing We Got: Of her siblings, Moka isn't the most experienced nor the strongest nor even the smartest. However, she's the one tasked with saving the world since her Primary means that she's the only one who can use Haine's time machine.
• Combat Pragmatist: A recurring source of discord between her and Hifumi is that Hifumi cares about fighting the "right" way (i.e. not running away) whereas Moka cares about winning even if it means running away or fighting dirty. Given that Moka grew up in a Zombie Apocalypse where not running away meant a death sentence, her perspective is more than understandable.
• Consummate Liar: While a genuinely good person, Moka is an extraordinarily good liar. As early as the first chapter, she comes across Akimiru's clothes and forged ID. Despite literally having watched his clone die, Moka doesn't flinch even a bit and tells Hifumi that she doesn't know him.
• Dark and Troubled Past: Moka grew up in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse, constantly watched her friends die around her, and had to fight tooth-and-nail just to stay alive with a small group of survivors in the Abstract Dimension. Worse yet, she saw her big sister Shuka die right in front of her without Moka being able to do a thing, and she was then forced to euthanize Uka after she was infected by a Worker.
• Deadpan Snarker: After a while of her getting fed up with Hifumi giving her the cold shoulder, Moka is a lot quicker to give him a bit of snark of her own.
• Fantastic Fighting Style: Moka is a black belt in martial arts, and she mixes up her fighting style with Ghost Shift to catch her enemies off-guard.
• Foreshadowing: Before her past as a time traveler from a ruined future is revealed, there are a lot of small hints sprinkled throughout the story.
  • In the first chapter, Moka is established to not have any kind of training as a fixer. However, it's repeatedly made clear that she's a very experienced fighter and is already more than aware of how to use "ga-chan" to its fullest potential.
  • In chapter 4, Amamiya explains that Akimiru Tsutsui, the fixer whose ID Moka and Hifumi discovered in the Abstract Dimension, had no records of his existence in the Bureau. Hifumi is shocked, but Moka just stands there silently. This is because Moka knew exactly who he was. Not only was she friends with him, but she literally watched his clone die on video.
  • When Amamiya explains the three potential miracles of the Lesser Cuckoo's Egg in chapter 11 (those being time travel, resurrection, and world peace), Hifumi quips that none of these sound all that bad, but Moka visibly tenses up in frustration. Considering that her future was destroyed by the "Resurrection" miracle gone wrong, it's more than understandable.
  • Despite being from Tokyo, Moka is completely clueless towards certain aspects of urban life. When she and Hifumi are at a restaurant, Hifumi points out that Moka doesn't put her ice in first when filling up her drink, remarking that it's weird someone from the big city wouldn't be familiar with a drink bar. Later on, when she's at Hifumi's house, she acts shocked that they're eating rotten food, and Hifumi makes a quip asking why she wouldn't know what natto is. Considering that she and the other survivors needed to fight just to get access to water, any kind of modern luxuries were obviously a far-off dream to her.
  • In chapter 11, Moka mentions that members of the Kirarazaka Clan can't leave Tokyo "even if the world were to end." She knows from first-hand experience that this is true.
  • When she meets Karin, Karin smells her and notes that Moka "reeks of blood" like she's been soaked in it. Considering that she grew up during a Zombie Apocalypse, this only makes sense.
• The Gadfly: She frequently teases Hifumi and makes banter at his expense.
• I Just Want to Be Badass: Similar to Hifumi, Moka has always admired Shōnen manga protagonists for their ability to take down enemies far stronger than themselves, bemoaning how her own ability is better suited for running away.
• Kill the Ones You Love: Moka was forced to kill her older sister Uka after she was infected by a Worker. Although Uka was the stronger of the two, Uka deliberately held back and attacked Moka while she still had her human reason so that her younger sister would be forced to gain the resolve to take a human life.
• Meaningful Name: "Moka" is written as "最果." 最 (mo) translates as "the most" or "the extreme." 果 (ka) translates as "bear fruit" or "succeed." Quite the fitting name for a Determinator like herself.
• Move in the Frozen Time: Is capable of this, freeing herself from Hand of Glory's localized freezing effect. This is mainly on account of her Primary Ghost Shift, which may also be why she's compatibile with the Gargantuan Stomach, which also locks its contents in time. Furthermore, Ghost Shift is the entire reason why Moka was capable of going back in time with Haine's time machine.
• My Greatest Failure: The full context isn't known, but she blames herself for having "lost" at some point in the past.
• Mysterious Past: Invoked. Although Hifumi's past is relatively clear-cut, Moka's past is a complete mystery, to the point that Hifumi actively gets bothered by the fact that she knows his past but he knows nothing about hers. It was deliberate on Moka's part, She worried that telling her friends about her past as a time traveler could create a Temporal Paradox and prevent the time machine from being created. It's not until Professor Nagumo successfully created the Time Machine's power source that Moka is able to come clean to her friends about her past.
• Naïve Newcomer: Zigzagged. Moka is very oblivious to many things that are considered common knowledge among fixers, and she often needs basic facts about ghosts and the Correction Bureau to be explained to her. That said, Moka is clearly in her element when fighting ghosts and always manages to keep her wits about her during combat, so she evidently isn't new to dealing with reality distorters either. It retroactively makes sense once the reader finds out about the fact that she grew up in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse. She had plenty of experience fighting "Workers," but the Bureau had long since been destroyed by then.
• Nice Girl: Despite how much she and her partner bicker, Moka is shown to be a very nice person overall. For example, she immediately becomes friends with Jina and promises to do everything she can to help her.
• No-Sell: She is immune to the effects of the Hand Of Glory, possibly because of her unknown Primary.
• Obfuscating Stupidity: Downplayed. Moka doesn't act "stupid" by any means, but she does a very good job acting clueless about Akimiru when she and Hifumi discover his forged Bureau ID in the Abstract Dimension.
• One Degree of Separation: With Hifumi. Moka was friends with Shirayukimaru in the future and she had planned to partner up with him when she went back to the past.
• Tragic Keepsake: "Ga-chan" was inherited from Moka's fallen friend Lily after Uka was forced to euthanize her.
• Tsundere: A type B in contrast with Hifumi's type A. Moka is a nice girl, but she ends up having quite the snarky side expressed with Hifumi when the latter gives her the cold shoulder.
• Vitriolic Best Buds: To say that Moka and Hifumi get off on the wrong foot is a massive understatement. At the start, the two of them are constantly bickering with each other, yet as time goes on they undeniably become friends with a lot of respect for each other (not that it causes them to bicker any less).
• Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Moka remains perfectly levelheaded when going up against all manner of ghosts, in no small part because she grew up during a zombie apocalypse. However, bugs absolutely terrify her to the point of screaming.

Judai Ikagashiki

Primary: Lock Hand

The leader of the Correction Bureau.

• Barrier Maiden: She's tied to the land, and so is incapable of leaving New Town. However, she had somehow been able to meet Moka's grandmother at some point in the past despite her also being tied to the land. Her primary is later specified to be "Lock Hand" which allows her to create barriers when she locks something that only she can open up, so if she locks a door, only she can open it again even if someone else has the key.
• Big Good: She's the leader of the Correction Bureau and so spearheads their efforts to protect humanity.
• Came Back Wrong: In Moka's timeline, Judai had her decapitated corpse reanimated by Ikaruga, who then used it to dismantle the Kirarazaka's barriers.
• Good Is Not Soft: She makes it clear that, at the end of the day, the Fixers are ultimately weapons for the Bureau to use. That said, Ikagashiki seems to be a fairly amicable person who's on the side of good.
• Long-Lived: She's apparently over 1000 years old.
• So Proud of You: When she meets the duo in chapter 17, Judai gives Moka a hug and tells her that she has deep respect for the girl for coming from afar. At the time, it seems like she's referring to Moka coming to New Town from Tokyo, but it's actually because Judai is aware of Moka being a time traveler.

Reiichiro Amamiya

Primary: Word is Mine

Secondary: Parallel Persona

Hifumi's and Moka's superior in the Bureau.

• Bad Powers, Good People: His secondary essentially allows him to take over other bodies, but he's squarely on the side of good.
• Cool Mask: A very cool mask in fact as he is quite literally the only person who can wear it.
• Combat Pragmatist: When fighting the Jizo, Amamiya falsely promises to protect it if it surrenders. In reality, he was just trying to get the Jizo talking so it could activate the landmine he placed using Word is Mine. When the Jizo calls Amamiya out for lying, Amamiya mocks it for thinking that he wouldn't try to deceive his opponent in a life-or-death battle.
• Da Chief: He's Hifumi's and Moka's boss.
• Good Scars, Evil Scars: Amamiya has a scar across his lip, and yet he's squarely on the side of good.
• Mask of Power: His secondary, Parallel Persona, turns anyone who wears his mask into him.
• Mythology Gag: His mask is the same one Ushio wore during the third loop's summer festival in Summer Time Rendering.
• Secret-Keeper: He was notified by Haine Minakata from the future that Moka would be traveling back in time, and he's kept that a secret from the rest of the Bureau in order to avoid creating a time paradox.
• Weapons-Grade Vocabulary: His primary, Word is Mine, places "landmines" in a conversation that causes whoever's talking to get hit with an explosion whenever they meet some specific verbal requirement. Said verbal requirements can even be the number of letters a sentence has.
• Wholesome Crossdresser: Downplayed. He wears the mask of a female anime character. Also justified, as the mask is a supernatural tool that only he currently has the ability to use.

Machitoshi Kose

An older educator.

• Beleaguered Boss: He has a lot of frustrations towards his subordinates when taking command of the Night mission. Understandably so, as the Fixers working under him are hormone-addled teenagers.
• Reasonable Authority Figure: Most fixers dismissed the Ibaraki siblings as monsters that needed to be eliminated. Kose, however, understood that they're just two kids caught in an unfortunate situation, and was able to convince the Bureau to spare their lives.

Anmyo

Primary: Unknown Spatial Erasure ability

Secondary: Fortune-Changing Omikuji

An educator who dresses as a Buddhist nun.

Her secondary is an O-mikuji which will randomly dispense fortunes. However, any fortune one takes from it will become their fortune and be set in stone as an inevitability.

• Badass Preacher: Anmyo is a Buddhist nun, and yet both Moka and Hifumi immediately realize that she's an absolute beast in combat.
• Tragic Bigot: According to Anmyo, her village was slaughtered by a demon after the villagers showed it mercy.
• Van Helsing Hate Crimes: When she encountered Karin and her father during Fafrotskies, Anmyo dismissed their pleas and labeled them as monsters who needed to be exterminated. It was only after Kose's intervention that Anmyo was convinced to spare their lives (even if Karin's father was taken into the Bureau's custody.
• Winds of Destiny, Change!: Her secondary as the power to overwrite one's future in accordance with the fortunes they take from her O-mikuji.
• Would Hurt a Child: During Fafrotskies, Anmyo attempted to exterminate Karin despite the latter being a small child at the time.

Jissei Ibaraki

Primary: Blood Transformation

Another Fixer that comes from a family of them. He was one of the victims of Nice Day For A UFO, having vanished while trying to look for it.

His Primary is Blood Transformation, which transforms part of his blood into other things, like bats that can be used as scouts.

• Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Despite Karin constantly badmouthing Jissei for being "unreliable," it's clear that she truly does place a lot of trust in him. She's always reckless in a fight because she knows Jissei will be able to heal her back up.
• Chekhov's Gunman: After being mentioned in passing at the start of the Jizo Arc, he finally appears in the Night Arc, back in action and dragged by Karin to help.
• Cowardly Lion: Jissei by his own admission can be rather cowardly, yet when push comes to shove he's still a competent Fixer.
• Fatal Flaw: Excessive caution. Taking his time while investigating Nice Day For a UFO caused him to be subject to its powers and then vanish.
• Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Like his sister, Jissei is a vampire but has zero issue functioning in human society (despite the negative social stigma). For all intents and purposes, Jissei is basically a normal person with some odd biological traits. He also has the ability to create bats from his blood to communicate and observe his surroundings.
• No-Respect Guy: Practically everyone badmouths Jissei. Even his own little sister gives him crap on the regular.
• Shrinking Violet: Jissei is a very timid individual, constantly stumbling over himself whenever he's put on the spot.
• Sibling Yin-Yang: Jissei is soft-spoken and timid, particularly in regard to fights. His sister Karin, on the other hand, is an energetic and outgoing Blood Knight.
• Un-person: Like the others subjected to Nice Day For a UFO's powers, he was erased from existence, but brought back with his defeat.

Toto Kishimo

Primary: Unnamed Four Arms Primary

Secondary: Telescreen

A Fixer who supervises the Cave Prison and Ikaruga within it.

Her unnamed Primary gives her four arms with which to work with. Her Secondary, Telescreen, is an old TV that plays calming images of flowers with soothing music; while it is turned on, it will turn the cis-reality value of the area within Cave Prison into a ten, disabling ghosts and Primaries within it.

• Anti-Magic: Her Telescreen disables the supernatural phenomena within a room of the Cave Prison, making it perfect for trapping a dangerous fixer like Ikaruga.

Akira Kagome

Hifumi's mother.

• Action Mom: She's a Fixer in the Bureau and is on a first-name basis with Amamiya, and was once acquaintances with Ikaruga.
• Fantasy-Forbidding Mother: She (very understandably) did not want Hifumi to be a fixer after he was nearly killed by Ikaruga. Nevertheless, Hifumi insists on following in Shiro's footsteps.
• Good Parents: Akira is a caring responsible mother who wants the best for her kids.

Mario Yuge / Maririn

Primary: Rain Down, Serenity

Secondary: Maririn

A fixer who happens to be a plushie of a popular cartoon character.

• Combo Platter Powers: As a fixer, Mario has three skills, though all of them seem to deal with the control of holy water:
  • Holy Clouds, Come Forth...: distorts water into the environment into clouds of holy water.
  • Rain Down, Serenity...: Causes a rain from his clouds that erases any negative emotion.
  • Water Wears Away Stone...: Releases water or holy water as a beam akin to an water jet cutter.
• Emotion Control: Mario's primary allows him to erase any negative emotions and convert them into positive emotions.
• Odd Friendship: Despite Anmyo refusing to trust nonhumans, she and Mario seem to be good friends.
• Show Within a Show: For some reason, he resembles the popular mascot character Maririn.

Mamoru Mibushiro

Primary: Inversion

A whip-wielding fixer currently trying to solve the problem of a cursed video tape.

• No-Sell: His primary, Inversion, automatically takes any curses directed at him and turns them into blessings.
• Sympathy for the Devil: He has sympathy for Toshie and earnestly wishes she'll rest in peace when he and Mario fix her.

Tsuranari Hoshi

Subaru Hoshi's father. A speculator who works for the Bureau.

• The Mole: While not exactly a spy, Tsuranari hacked the Bureau on Anmyo's request to get information on Moka. It wasn't very consequential though, since Moka was planning to come clean to the others at the camping trip anyway.

Tokio Shimura

Primary: Catoblepas Of The Eye

Hifumi's and Moka's teacher.

• The Ace: Shimura is stated in no uncertain terms to be the strongest Fixer.
• Badass Teacher: Shimura is a teacher in charge of a small class (5 students in total) and is the strongest Fixer in the bureau.
• Canon Character All Along: Shimura is actually the main protagonist of Yasuki Tanaka's short-lived manga Catoblepas Of The Eye.
• Familiar: His primary summons Catoblepas, a massive and beastly cyclops who will halt the movement of anything it gazes upon. It has been constantly active for years now, staring at the Lesser Cuckoo's Egg to slow down its hatching.

Subaru Hoshi

Moka's and Hifumi's book-smart classmate. He's the child of Bureau scientists, and he seeks to follow in his parents' career path.

• Action Survivor: Despite having no powers, he was part of Moka's survivor group in her future.
• Ambiguous Situation: Although Subaru apparently doesn't have any abilities, when he appears as an adult in Moka's future, his body from the neck-down is clearly not the same one he has now. Given that plenty of other survivors are shown with the exact same condition, it's likely because staying in the Abstract Dimension for long periods of time without built-in resistance has an adverse effect on one's body.
• Complexity Addiction: He writes Karin an entire manual on how to confess to Hifumi.
• Connected All Along: His future self is part of Moka's group of survivors in her timeline. As such, Moka was already friends with him before the story started, but he didn't know it.
• Non-Action Guy: Rather than aiming to be a Fixer, he's aiming to be a scientist.
• Shipper on Deck: Combined with a healthy dose of Complexity Addiction. When Karin tells him that she plans to confess to Hifumi, Subaru makes an entire manual on how to set up a confession.
• The Smart Guy: Par for the course for someone aiming to be a scientist. When Jina becomes an Un-person, Subaru forgets she ever existed. However, he chooses to go along with Moka and Hifumi despite not believing them since he acknowledges that it's entirely possible that there really was a person known as Jina.

Jina Komatsu

Moka's and Hifumi's classmate. She's the president of the calligraphy club.

• Bandage Mummy: She's covered head to toe in bandages. It's not because she's injured, but instead because her body is slowly turning invisible due to "Nice Day for a UFO." The bandages are there for the sake of keeping her body visible to everyone else. After Moka and Hifumi defeat "Nice Day for a UFO," Jina reappears with a fully-visible body.
• Chekhov's Gunman: Jina is the least prominent member of Moka's and Hifumi's social circle and, after her focus arc, just sorta orbits the more important characters. Fast-forward to April 4, and Jina is the entire reason the heroes even have a fighting chance.
• Damsel in Distress: The first real story arc revolves around Hifumi and Moka going up against Nice Day for a UFO in order to rescue Jina.
• The Everyman: Jina is the only normal civilian out of all of her classmates. Though as it turns out, she awakens to a primary right before April 4 rolls around.
• Forgotten Fallen Friend: A very literal example. Due to the effects of "Nice Day for a UFO," her friends all forget that she ever existed in the first place. Once Hifumi and Moka defeat the ghost, however, Jina comes back and has everyone remember her existence again.
• Ret-Gone: Jina's primary allows her to alter the opacity of her existence. What this means is that she can temporarily remove herself from reality, making her immune from the abilities of certain ghosts. When Ikaruga once again uses Nice Day for a UFO to allow Hibiko's meteor to pierce Judai's barrier, Jina is able to make everyone remember the existence of the meteor. She also makes Shuka temporarily disappear to save her from an otherwise lethal wound.
• Touched by Vorlons: In the first arc, Jina is erased from existence by Nice Day for a UFO. It's revealed much later that this caused Jina to awaken to a primary which allows her to alter the opacity of her existence.
• Un-person: Jina has her very existence erased by the "Nice Day for a UFO" ghost. Thankfully, it's only temporary and she's rescued after Hifumi and Moka defeat the ghost.

Karin Ibaraki

Primary: Blood Play

Secondary: Predators

Her Primary, Blood Play, gives her more power and makes her more unhinged the more she drinks the blood of her enemies. Her Secondary, Predators, are a pair of spiked brass knuckles which causes anything hurt by it to hemorrhage continuously until they die.

• Achilles' Heel: Karin is obviously a very strong fighter, but direct sunlight can and will kill her.
• Badass Adorable: Karin is very cute, especially with the over-the-top nature of her crush on Hifumi. That doesn't make her any less capable in combat.
• Blood Knight: Her primary makes it so that the more she drinks blood, the more she wants to drink, making her stronger and more hellbent in fighting enemies to drain their blood.
• Clingy Jealous Girl: Upon realizing that Hifumi's current partner is a girl, Karin immediately assumes the two are romantically involved and gets jealous of Moka.
• Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Although she's a vampire, Karin and Jissei have few issues integrating in human society. For all intents and purposes, they're regular people who just so happen to have some odd biological traits.
• Girly Bruiser: Karin is incredibly cutesy in both appearance and personality, and yet she has Super-Strength goes absolutely berserk in a fight.
• Losing Your Head: When under the effects of Alan Smithee's End, Karin is decapitated by "Anmyo" (or rather a recreation of her) right as Hifumi comes to her rescue. Thankfully, Karin's decapitated head is able to stay alive and she's even able to bite "Anmyo" to save Hifumi at the last second. Vampire genetics really come in handy.
• Romantic Vampire Girl: Karin is completely head-over-heels for Hifumi, and is over the moon when he agrees to start dating her. Problem is... vampires kissing humans has the nasty side effect of making them vampires too.
• Sibling Yin-Yang: Karin is an energetic and outgoing Blood Knight. In sharp contrast, her brother Jissei is soft-spoken and terrified of getting directly involved in conflict.
• Smitten Teenage Girl: She is absolutely head-over-heels for Hifumi and makes sure he knows it at every opportunity.
• Thinks Like a Romance Novel: In chapter 34, despite Moka telling her and the others that she came back in time to prevent the end of the world, Karin doesn't understand a single word of it and instantly assumes that she's confessing her love to Hifumi.
• Weakened by the Light: Karin turns to ash when exposed to direct sunlight. However, she's able to get around just fine by wearing heavy clothing and carrying around an umbrella.

Fujio Komoro

An elderly woman who runs a candy shop.

• Cool Old Lady: She's on very good terms with the local kids, Hifumi in particular. She even gives some llighthearted encouragement to Karin when she starts dating him.
• Intergenerational Friendship: Despite being 72 years old, she interacts with Hifumi like an old friend.

"Ryuunosuke Nagumo" / Hizuru Minakata

A famous sci-fi writer and physicist, she was called in to participate on initial efforts to understand the Ghosts, and was one of the founding members of the Correction Bureau, responsible for defining the language used to talk about them. She is currently on France to write her next book and has left the Bureau.

Shiro

Secondary: Cut-All Blade

A shirayukimaru who watches over the Kagome family line. The former owner of the Cut-All Blade. He lost his life protecting Hifumi during the Fafrotskies incident.

• Heroic Sacrifice: He sacrificed himself to save Hifumi during Fafrotskies.
• Hero of Another Story: According to Moka, he's still fighting the Zombie Apocalypse back in her timeline.
• Interspecies Friendship: Although he may be a dog, he was genuinely close with the Kagomes as individual people, Hifumi in particular. He's also a close friend of Moka in her timeline.
• Talking Animal: Although he's a dog, Hifumi's flashback shows that he's capable of speech.

• Doomsday Cult: They are trying to hatch The Lesser Cuckoo's Egg, which may or may not destroy the world.
• Villainous Friendship: They're all indicated to be on friendly terms with each other, as shown by them playing a game of basketball over a conversation in chapter 32. It's subverted from Ikaruga's end; he's simply taking advantage of them and has zero qualms about stabbing them in the back.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: The Homecoming Sect genuinely believe that hatching the Lesser Cuckoo's Egg will benefit mankind, despite the obvious risks it poses.

Fuhito Ikaruga

Primary: Spirit Tuner

Secondary: From Dusk Til' Dawn

The leader of the Homecoming Sect and Amamiya's former partner. Ikaruga is the researcher who caused Fafrotskies in an attempt to awaken the Lesser Cuckoo's Egg, yet he turned himself in to the Bureau after the fact. Despite ostensibly being in prison, Ikaruga is somehow still at large.

• Ambiguously Gay: When he traps Amamiya and the duo in frozen time using the Hand of Glory, he gets very physically close to Amamiya. He even pets Amamiya's face and comments about how much he wants to tear out his former partner's tongue.
• Big Bad: As the leader of the Homecoming Sect, he's the main antagonist of the series.
• Blind Weapon Master: He lost the sight in one of his eyes after he looked directly at the CT scan of the Lesser Cuckoo's Egg. Strangely, he's blind in both eyes when Moka fights him in chapter 16. This is because this Ikaruga is actually a time traveler from Moka's future. Nevertheless, he's still a capable fighter even when entirely blind.
• Bond Villain Stupidity: By the time of the current story, he (for obvious reasons) sees Moka as the biggest threat to his plans. As seen by Moka's backstory, Ikaruga had the perfect chance to kill her after he killed Shuka and had Uka infected by a Hard Worker, only for Ikaruga to disregard her entirely. In all fairness, Ikaruga had no idea that Moka's primary made her compatible with Haine's time machine, meaning that she could chase after him to 2034. Furthermore, it's revealed that Ikaruga only managed to kill Shuka because he used his primary to transfer into a spiritual form after she "killed" and caught her off guard. The nature of Uka's primary meant that Ikaruga was vulnerable to her attacks, and fighting her would have posed an unnecessary risk.
• Did Not See That Coming: Ikaruga is a genius Chessmaster who has contingency plans for every single member of the bureau and knows exactly how to counter them. The sole exception is Jina who, unbeknownst to Ikaruga, awakened to a Primary thanks to his own meddling. When the fated April 4 rolls around, her involvement completely interupts Ikaruga's otherwise flawless plans.
• Dude Looks Like a Lady: He has a rather effeminate appearance, yet he's stated in no uncertain terms to be a man.
• Faux Affably Evil: He has a rather polite exterior, but Ikaruga is a cold-blooded murderer to the core. In Hifumi's flashback, he sadistically mocks Hifumi, a child at the time, as he prepares to kill him. It's made all the worse by the fact that he gives Hifumi a Hope Spot by initially appearing as someone sent to rescue him, only to show his true colors moments later.
• Guns Akimbo: One of Ikaruga's Secondaries, From Dusk Til' Dawn, takes the form of two pistols which he can dual wield. Note that one is named From Dusk and the other is named Til' Dawn.
• Loyal Phlebotinum: A rather extreme example. Like most Secondaries, From Dusk Til' Dawn can only be used by those compatible with it (i.e. Ikaruga). Unlike most Secondaries, a noncompatible person simply touching it will kill them.
• Meaningful Name: "Fuhito" is written as "不人." 不 roughly translates as the English prefix "non." 人 translates as "person." In other words, his name literally means "Un-person."
• Might as Well Not Be in Prison at All: He's currently locked up in the high-end "Cave Prison", yet he's still somehow capable of hunting fixers from his prison cell. They come to the conclusion that there may be two of him, one of which is not arrested and is acting outside. It's actually because the Ikaruga acting on the outside is a time-traveler from the future.
• Soft-Spoken Sadist: Ikaruga is unfailingly polite and composed, yet he's an utter psychopath who doesn't bat an eye at killing untold numbers of innocent people.
• Time Master: Not him, but he carries several ghosts with him, and one of them, the Hand Of Glory, is the hand from the corpse of a hanged man with a candle made of their own fat. While the candle is lit, he can stop time for everything aside from him and Ikusu. Considering that he, like Moka, is compatible with Haine's time machine, his Primary likely does have some connection with time.
• We Used to Be Friends: He and Amamiya were once partners, and both of them evidently had a good deal of respect for each other. After Ikaruga showed his true colors by causing Fafrotskies, any camaraderie between them completely dissipated.
• Would Hurt a Child: He personally tried to murder a young Hifumi during Fafrotskies, all while retaining the same calm polite manner of speech.

Ikusu Kitagawa

A ghost born from the spirit of a young girl killed during Fafrotskies. She traps people in her "stomach" and digests them while they're still alive, using the melted remains like clay for the sake of fixing her now monstrous father.

• Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She pretends to be a regular human child when she sneak attacks Moka and Hifumi in the elevator, not revealing her true colors until she's trying to kill them.
• Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: To Heine from Summertime Rendering. Even if Ikusu isn't the Big Bad like Heine was, she's still a major recurring antagonist who, like Heine, is a supernatural entity taking on the form and mannerisms of a child. Both of them also have the goal to simply be with their family, with Ikusu wanting to resurrect her father and Heine wanting to return to the Shadow World with her children. However, Heine was still very much a Psychopathic Womanchild (Her Literal Split Personality notwithstanding) who didn't really care much about her allies beyond them being tools. On the other hand, Ikusu genuinely seems to get along well with the other members of the Sect. Furthermore, Heine's relationship with Shide was very much that of a servant serving his master. By contrast, Ikusu regards Ikaruga more of a teacher than anything else.
• Cute Is Evil: Ikusu looks and acts like an adorable child (which she technically is to be fair), yet she has no qualms about killing the Sect's enemies by slowly digesting them.
• Not Quite Dead: Although she's seemingly "fixed" at the end of the first chapter, it's later shown that she survived and is in fact a member of the Homecoming Sect.
• Starter Villain: She's the first ghost fought by Moka and Hifumi.
• Starter Villain Stays: Ikusu is the first ghost Moka and Hifumi go up against and is seemingly defeated by the end of chapter 1, but she ends up sticking around in the story as a member of the Homecoming Sect.
• Tragic Monster: She and her father were originally humans living in New Town, but were killed by ghosts. Their souls ended up becoming ghosts themselves. For some unknown reason, the family is currently allied with Ikaruga.
• Who Needs Their Whole Body?: Has her head turned into swiss cheese once Moka destroys enough of her "stomach". Is rather unbothered by this, though her reality distortion collapses soon after, leaving the Fixers with the assumption she was dealt with.

Alan Smithee

Primary: Alan Smithee's End

An old man with large eyebrows working for the Homecoming Sect.

His primary, Alan Smithee's End, allows him to trap his enemies in movies based on their memories where they're scripted to die at the end.

• Ambiguous Situation: He claims he's a ghost, yet he seems to have a primary. It's unclear if this is because he's an "actual" ghost like Ikusu. The extra notes reveals he was never a real person, and is a Tulpa of the concept of Alan Smithee.
• Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: When Alan Smithee's End fails to kill Hifumi and Karin, Karin (as a decapitated head) gives Hifumi a kiss on the cheek. Alan covers Ikusu's eyes when this happens. Committing murder is one thing, but a kiss? They can't show her that; what would the parents think?
• Evil Old Folks: He's visibly getting up there in years and he's a member of the Homecoming Sect. Considering that the concept of "Alan Smithee" dates from the late 60s and the story takes place in the 2030s, that would put him in his mid 60s.
• Laughably Evil: While he has no qualms about killing kids for the Sect's goal, his mannerisms in regard to his movies (which he doesn't even write) are incredibly hammy and over-the-top.
• Meaningful Name: "Alan Smithee" is Hollywood slang for people that don't want their names attached to projects that they know are going to flop. Guess he's not as proud of those ghost-generated scripts as he pretends.
• Personality Powers: As a manifestation of the concept of "Alan Smithee", a name credited as director for works other directors don't want their names attached to, his powers do not allow him to actually create anything: everything his primary does is generate scripts for him, since he never actually directed anything.
• Ripped from the Headlines: His ability automatically generates scripts for his "movies" yet he still passes it off as his own work. It's a blatant riff on the many cases where people use text generated by ChatGPT and take credit for it.
• Trapped in TV Land: His primary, Alan Smithee's End, traps his targets in movies constructed from their real memories, but events play out
• Tulpa: He is the concept of "Alan Smithee" given form, likely generated from the collective use of this name to hide the identity of real directors.

Hibiko

Primary Unknown

An apathetic man who is part of a humanoid canine species. He is also the little brother of the first reality distorter.

• Bishōnen: Hibiko can very easily be mistaken for a woman, though he's stated in no uncertain terms to be a man.
• Long-Lived: Hibiko is the little brother of the first reality distorter. Since "reality distorter" in this setting includes anyone with any kind of magical powers, Hibiko has definitely been around for a long time.

A ghost encountered by Hifumi and Moka at school. It has the power to flood a given area with water and quickly travel through it.

• Shock and Awe: In addition to being able to generate a seemingly infinite amount of water, it can also produce electricity.
• Teleportation: It seemingly has the ability to teleport anywhere in its pocket dimension at will, provided that it's in the water.

A mysterious ghost who seemingly turns people invisible.

• Arc Villain: Of the homonymous arc, where it is responsible for things vanishing around town, including deleting Jina from existence.
• Chekhov's Gun: Nice Day for a UFO is introduced and promptly taken care of in one of the first arcs. Ikaruga brings it back in chapter 62 to negate all the Fixers' defenses against the meteor that Hibiko will use to free his past self from the Cave Prison.
• Foreshadowing: Chapter 6 opens with Ririka and Mitsuki discussing Nice Day for a UFO. Ririka tells Mitsuki that Nice Day for a UFO is a Category 5 ghost with the potential to end the world, and in the background is a meteor crashing into Earth. Much later, Ikaruga uses Nice Day for a UFO to facilitate the arrival of Hibiko's meteor.
• Foul Flower: Its true form is actually a flower with a strange humanoid core.
• The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: During the fight with it, its powers have seeped enough that Jina's name no longer appears in the speech bubbles, being replaced by scribbles, indicating it is also deleting Jina from the manga itself and likely trying to hide her from the reader.
• Moth Menace: It seemingly takes on the form of a butterfly, deleting anything it comes into contact with. In actuality, the butterflies spread the pollen from the main body.
• Un-person: The true nature of its power. Although it seemingly just turns people invisible, it actually removes any traces of their existence from reality.

The Lesser Cuckoo's Egg

The original ghost and the cause behind all the strange happenings in New Town.

• Animal Motif: It is named after a species of bird who practices brood parasitism where it uses other birds to hatch its eggs, like it is using the other ghosts to hatch itself.
• Artifact of Doom: As soon as it was found, it started causing problems. The workers who looked directly into it went insane and started killing each others, and trying to investigate it caused the "Fafrotskies". It is also theorized that it is attracting the ghosts to the town in order to try to "hatch" it, as it grows whenever the cis-reality value drops below 0.
• Beyond the Impossible: It is theorized that it could perform one of the three miracles: resurrection, time travel, or world peace. That being said, it's capacity to attract any ghost towards it, as well as it's own Brown Note nature seems to make people too wary to test it.
• Brown Note: According to Kishimo, looking at the CT scans taken from it causes a person to go blind. Even before that, the first people to look at it had immediately gone insane and killed each other, meaning even just looking at it causes problems.
• Go Mad from the Revelation: Even looking at it is enough to drive someone insane. In fact, the "Fafrotskies" incident was caused by scientists trying to get a CT scan of it. The only person confirmed to have seen the CT Scan, Ikaruga, went blind from seeing it.
• Greater-Scope Villain: Although it isn't clear if it's even sentient, it's the entity that's drawing all the ghosts to New Town.

Njisodo

A stone Jizo statue that possesses Bunta Sukenari and holds the restaurant captive with it's death threatening reality distortion, which summons giant Jizo statues to crush anyone that leaves a designated place.

• Crippling Overspecialization: It can only harm people with its powers if they break the established rule or going outside. While this makes him a possible city-wide threat (as he can kill everyone inside by leaving a place once his powers start acting), he has no defense against a Fixer who just attacks him head on and is inside the safe zone, to the point that his only defense is to take a hostage.
• Demonic Possession: It possesses a restaurant's staff body which forces him into acting as a hostage taker and help him flee.
• Glass Cannon: Within its rules, it is a deadly force and would kill even Hifumi were it not for his special defense skill. That being said, when face, it is a tiny lump of flesh that can be easily dispatched of as long as you get close enough.
• Hammered into the Ground: Inflicts this on Hifumi when he goes outside, thus activating it's Conditional Powers and allowing it to drop a giant Jizo statue on the boy.
• Hostage Situation: Once it's found out, it immediately takes Mrs. Komoro hostage to ward off the Fixers.

Night / Daifuku Komeno

A mysterious, giant orb of shadow that covers everything within it and in its wake in darkness. It infects people and causes their movements to be used as the center of the orb and move with it. It was generated by the awakening of supernatural powers in an 8-month-old baby named Daifuku Komeno, who acts as the sphere's center and its power source.

• Emotional Powers: It's powers affect people within it based on their emotional state. The more stressed people are, the more they are inflicted by thorns, while the more stressed Daifuku is, the darker the night gets. It's later stablished that Daifuku's stress is it's energy source, so it appears in its true form when it seems that Daifuku might calm down.
• Power Incontinence: The Night acts as if it was Daifuku's primary, and it's effects respond to his emotional state. When the Fixers briefly manage to calm him down, the night begins clearing and the thorns in Hifumi's body lessen.
• Sinister Geometry: It takes the shape of an ominous floating sphere of shadows, though that starts to get loose as it is surrounded by its own trail.

Toshie

A mysterious apparition that was responsible for a cursed video tape that killed anyone who watched it within two weeks during the Heisei Era, claiming the life of thousands. She was defeated by Ikaruga and Amamiya, but a new tape has spawned, and is kept in containment within the house where it was found.

• Expy: Subverted. When she appears, she seems to be a giant smiling woman, which contrasts with the build up that she was going to be a Sadako clone.

Akimiru Tsutsui

Primary: Vanishing Twin

A survivor from Moka's future who sent his clone back in time. Moka and Hifumi found his clothes and ID when encountering Ikusu for the first time.

• Chekhov's Gunman: He's mentioned as early as chapter 1, yet the reader only finds out what's really going on with him in chapter 47.
• Connected All Along: He's namedropped very early on, but the reader knows nothing about who he was or where he came from. As it turns out, he was Moka's friend from the future who attempted to go back in time to stop Ikaruga, but his clone was killed by Ikaruga.
• Doomed Predecessor: Kinda. Akimiru was the first person from Moka's future to go back in time to save the world. When his clone arrived back in time, he (or rather his clone) was assassinated by Ikaruga. Moka finds his clothes and ID in the Abstract Dimension.
• Nice Guy: From what we see, Akimiru seemed to be a genuinely friendly and heroic guy whom Moka was good friends with.
• Red Herring: Initially it seems as though he was taken out by Nice Day for a UFO, but in reality his clone was assassinated by the Homecoming Sect because they wanted to stop time travelers from preventing the apocalypse. He himself is (probably) still alive since Haine cut his connection at the last second.
• Twin Maker: His Primary, Vanishing Twin creates a clone whom Akimiru controls with his mind. However, any damage his clone sustains is reflected back at his main body. This almost killed him when his clone went back in time, but thankfully Haine was able to cut the connection at the last second.
• Uncertain Doom: Akimiru sustained serious injuries when he sent his clone back in time. It's unclear if his "current" self (or rather his self in 2048) is still alive. Granted, considering the nature of Moka's mission, it's possible that his life might be saved even if he didn't survive.

Lily

A survivor from Moka's future. The previous holder of the Gargantuan Stomach.

• The Bus Came Back: Her past self is introduced in chapter 59. Given that she's the basis for Ririka, perhaps the bus never left in the first place.
• Canon Character All Along: Lily actually the basis for the "Ririka" character you see in all the exposition videos.
• Tragic Keepsake: The Gargantuan Stomach, or "Ga-chan," is this to Moka since it's a memento of Lily.
• We Hardly Knew Ye: She's killed off in the very same chapter she's introduced in.
• Zombie Infectee: She was bitten by a Hard Worker and had to be euthanized by Uka.

Haine Minakata

Once a genius researcher studying ghosts in America, Haine Minakata teamed up with the Kirarazaka Clan following the Worker outbreak to create shelters based in the Abstract Dimension.

• Absent-Minded Professor: She clearly takes after her aunt in the "eccentric genius" department. In chapter 47, Haine goes on a giant ramble about time-traveling bacteria to the confusion of everyone else in the room, prompting Shiro to tell her get to the point already.
• Big Good: Haine is the entire reason Moka was able to go back in time, effectively putting the entire plot of the story into motion.
• Famed in Story: By the time of Ghost Fixers, Haine has a world-famous scientist and is widely considered to be the leading expert on ghosts.
• Late-Arrival Spoiler: This version of Haine is a Walking Spoiler for the ending of Summer Time Rendering, but she plays an important part in Ghost Fixers nevertheless.

• Barrier Maiden: Kirarazaka Clan has upheld the spiritual barriers around Tokyo for centuries. The clan traditionally served as servants to the Emperor, and so they were always stationed where ever the Imperial line was located.
• Superpowerful Genetics: The Kirarazaka line is blessed with powerful spiritual abilities, and all members of the line have a primary.

Mayumi Kirarazaka

Primary: ??

Secondary: Higa Braid

The current head of the Kirarazaka clan and Moka's grandmother.

• Barrier Warrior: Her Higa Braid secondary is an earring that defines what is "hers" and what is "another's". Everything that is then defined as hers will be protected from being interfered with by another.
• Big Good: Alongside Judai, she's one of the most important individuals upholding order.

Uka Kirarazaka

Primary: Swaying Billows

Secondary: Three Sacred Treasures

One of Moka's older sisters.

• And Then John Was a Zombie: Uka dies when she's infected by a worker and Moka is forced to euthanize her. Or at least that's how she died in reality. In Moka's "movie", Uka fully turns into a worker and fights Moka, Hifumi, and Karin 3v1 and is able to utterly overpower them, to the point that she would have easily killed them if not for Karin's natural resistance.
• Big Sister Mentor: Uka was the one who taught Moka everything she knew about how to fight. Given that Moka was the weakest of the Kirarazaka sisters, Uka always won their fights... at least up until the final one. Uka was infected by a Worker and, while she still had her human reason, she attacked Moka while holding back, effectively performing a Suicide by Cop at Moka's hands.
• Flight Uka is capable of flight as seen in chapter 46. This is likely one of the abilities granted to her by the Three Sacred Treasures.
• Hitbox Dissonance: Uka's primary, Swaying Billows, allows her to manipulate "hitboxes" on either herself or others. This means making herself both borderline impossible to hit and being able to hit enemies who otherwise would have been untouchable. For instance, Moka's Ghost Shift makes her incorporeal, but Uka is able to hit her by simply attaching a hitbox onto her.
• Public Domain Artifact: Uka wields the Three Sacred Treasures (三種の神器), the mythical imperial regalia of Japan. She most commonly uses the Kusanagi no Tsurugi (草薙の剣), here depicted as a jagged sword which can rain down lightning.
• Shock and Awe: Uka uses the Kusanagi no Tsurugi (草薙の剣) to rain down lightning onto her enemies. Considering Yasuki Tanaka's love of video games (especially RPGs) and his tendency to reference them, this specific depiction of the sword was possibly inspired by the Levin Sword from Fire Emblem.
• Shoot the Shaggy Dog: In chapter 46, Uka is forced to kill her friend Lily after she's bitten by the Hard Worker lest she turn into a worker herself. Moka protests that they could have saved Lily by storing her in the Gargantuan Stomach but Uka reasons that, since the Gargantuan Stomach is still a living thing, it could have gotten infected if they stored Lily inside.
• Suicide by Cop: During their fight with Ikaruga, Uka was bitten by a Worker and was doomed to turn into a zombie. While she still held onto her human reason, she attacked Moka but deliberately held back so that Moka would be forced to kill her.
• Zombie Infectee: After Shuka dies, Uka lowers her guard in a moment of rage, at which point she's grazed by a Hard Worker's attack. Moka is forced to euthanize her.

Shuka Kirarazaka

Primary: Phoenix

One of Moka's older sisters.

• The Bus Came Back: Shuka, as an 11 year old, shows up at New Town to help stop Ikaruga as April 4 approaches.
• Cool Big Sis: While Moka's relationship with Uka became rather strained following the incident with Lily, she was shown to always be on great terms with Shuka.
• Killed Offscreen: Kinda. Shuka lands what should be a lethal blow on Ikaruga and burns his body to ash. And then the next page shows Ikaruga alive and well, standing over Shuka's dead body.
• Skewed Priorities: Downplayed, but when discussing who to send back in time to kill Ikaruga, Shuka volunteers... and comments that she wants to try a parfait while she's at it.
• The Worf Effect: Shuka is established to be a total powerhouse when she nonchalantly mows down hordes of workers and then seemingly kills Ikaruga with zero effort. And then it cuts to Ikaruga standing over her dead body. It isn't clear if this was because he was outright stronger than her or if he just had some hidden ability that Shuka had no way of preparing for.
  • It's revealed much later that Shuka actually did kill Ikaruga in her initial attack. His primary, Spirit Tuner, allows him to take on a spiritual form after his death. He purposefully let Shuka kill him, both to take her off guard and because he needed to take on a spiritual form to use Heine's time machine, making Shuka's death more a case of Did Not See That Coming.

Workers

Zombies accidentally created by the Lesser Cuckoo's Egg when the "Resurrection" miracle went wrong. In Moka's timeline, they have effectively wiped out humanity.

• Boss in Mook's Clothing: The "Hard Workers," a rare subspecies mutated by Ikaruga's Spirit Tuner, are nigh-unkillable. If you come across one in the wild, you need to run away.
• Complete Immortality: The only thing that seems capable of taking them down for good is the Kirarazaka Clan's barriers. Outside of that, they seem capable of regenerating from anything, even if they're blown up.
• Eye Beams: The "Hard Worker" is capable of using laser beams.
• Our Zombies Are Different: They're zombies, with a ton of additional abilities stacked on top of the whole "undead" thing.
• Punny Name: "Worker" seems to be a play on "Walker."
• Zombie Apocalypse: Workers appeared all over the world after Ikaruga awakened the Lesser Cuckoo's Egg. By the time of 2048, they've wiped out all of humanity sans a few pockets of civilization who retreated into the Abstract Dimension.
