The Three Sisters (2025) (Animation)

The Three Sisters is a 2025 animated short film (15 minutes) from Russia, directed by Konstantin Bronzit.

Three sisters live in three cabins on a small island, with numbers that match their heights: the shortest lives in cabin #1 and the tallest lives in cabin #3. They seem to live a rather lonely existence that consists of little more than going to church on Sundays. One day, they meet the supply boat that brings their food, and disaster strikes. The sisters are paying for their supplies when one of the seagulls that lives on the island snatches a fish out of their shopping bag. In the chaos as the sisters try to chase away the seagulls and retrieve their fish, the bag that contains all the money the sisters have is dropped into the water.

Now dead broke, the sisters are forced to put out a sign advertising cabin #1 for rent. The offer is taken up by a burly, bearded, pipe-smoking sailor. Over the course of a week, the three sisters start to react to the presence of a large, very masculine man in their midst.

Tropes:

  • And the Adventure Continues: In the Distant Finale three sailors arrive at the island's dock. The three sailors and the three ladies look at each other, and then the credits roll.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The Expository Hairstyle Change after the three women remove their caps reveals that sisters 1-3 are, in order, blonde, redheaded, and brunette.
  • Call-Back:
    • Towards the end of the cartoon, the skeleton of the fish that the seagulls stole falls off the roof.
    • Sister #3 balls up the "Room for Rent" sign and throws it away, the sisters being happy with their manly sailor. In the Distant Finale, three sailors pull up to the dock in a boat, and one produces the crumpled "Room for Rent" sign.
  • Creative Closing Credits: The opening title "The Three Sisters" has the three T's drawn to look like figures of three women. In the closing credits, all the T's are drawn to look like women, which clap to a beat.
  • Distant Finale: After most of the cartoon plays out over a single week with the days of the week shown in titles, a title that says "February" skips the story several months ahead to winter. The sisters are then greeted by new visitors: three sailors, each of whom matches the height of one of the sisters.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: The women all kept their hair modestly under caps. As they grow increasingly attracted to the sailor, all three remove their caps and let their hair free. (And Sister #1 dyes her hair blonde, as in the opening scenes it can be seen to be gray as it pokes out of her cap.)
  • Fallen-on-Hard-Times Job: More or less, as losing all their money has forced the sisters to grudgingly put up cabin #1 for rent.
  • "Far Side" Island: The three sisters live on a spherical island that is barely big enough to contain their three cabins and the chapel. It's obviously supposed to be a symbolic representation of a small, isolated island.
  • Gray Rain of Depression: The sisters come out one day and find that the sailor has left. They stare bereft at the sea while rain pours, before throwing away their mementoes of him (a rose, a cap, and a pipe respectively) and going back into their cabins.
  • Horny Sailors: A brawny sailor rents a cabin on the island, and delights in sex with each of the sisters before finally having an orgy with all of them.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: Sisters 1 and 3 let long hair out of their caps as they become attracted to the sailor. Sister #2 has a great bush of frizzy red hair that doesn't really go down.
  • Nameless Narrative: No names for any characters.
  • A Party, Also Known as an Orgy: The sailor goes diving and retrieves the sisters' bag of money. They are ecstatic, and they buy a bunch of wine and throw a party. By their semi-nudity as they leave the house after, and the sailor's Something Else Also Rises firing of his flare gun, the party pretty plainly turned into an orgy.
  • Perverted Sniffing: While sisters 2 and 3 are put off by the body odor of the sweaty, smelly sailor, #1 is so turned on by the smell of the laundry that he hands her that she faints. This is the first instance of the women getting carried away by their attraction to the man.
  • Sibling Triangle: A sibling square as the three sisters all lust for the burly sailor, and eventually all have sex with him.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: The sisters all wore dresses in drab colors of brown and black. As they grow attracted to the sailor and each attempt to seduce him, they all put on colorful pretty dresses.
  • Silence Is Golden: No dialogue in the cartoon, only various non-verbal sounds from the ladies (growls, yelps of surprise, etc) and the sailor's amused "Heh!"
  • Smoking Hot Sex: Sister #3 comes back from what is very strongly implied to be a sex cruise in the sailor's rowboat. She's smoking his pipe.
  • Snack-Stealing Seagulls: The plot-triggering even comes when one of the island seagulls snatches a fish right out of the bag where the sisters put their supplies.
  • Something Else Also Rises:
    • The sailor takes sister #3 out on what seems to be a sex cruise in his rowboat. He's heard chuckling "Heh!" somewhere off in the distance, and then he fires off a flare which arcs across the sky.
    • This is even more obvious a little later when the sailor and the sisters have a drunken orgy. The sisters pour out of the house, giggling madly and half-naked, followed by the sailor who chuckles again and fires off another flare.
