- — Sun-Maid mascot, "A Sun-Maid PBS Kids sponsor for Curious George''
Sun-Maid Raisins is a California raisin company known for their raisins which contain the red cylinder packaging and other products containing their raisins, and for the Sun-Maid girl, who wears a red bonnet holding grapes in the sunlight behind her. They have had marketing campaigns since their forming as old as 1912.
In 1915, Lorraine Collett was spotted by a representative of the company in the backyard of her family’s home when she was in Fresno working part-time at a fruit packing company, and she was wearing her mothers red bonnet and drying her hair, and she volunteered to pose for Sun-Maid’s logo and became the mascot of the company.
Long after in 2006, Synthespian Studios created a series of commercials throughout the 2000s of the Sun-Maid girl speaking and walking around and is animated in CGI. There were previously commercials for the Sun-Maid brand such as The California Raisins, who went on to become an animated music group, but Sun-Maid had campaigns of their own on television.
Tropes in Sun-Maid:
- Hartman Hips: She is given big hips in the 2000s CGI-animated commercials.
- Hotter and Sexier: In the CGI animated commercials in the 2000s, created by Synthespian Studios, she speaks and is given huge hips, and has a more cute demeanor.
- Pun: Sun dried + Maid = Woman + Made = Sun-Maid.
- Race Lift: She is actually Lorraine Collett, a Hispanic girl, but in her CGI animated commercials, she is white.
- Suddenly Voiced: She speaks for the first time in the CGI animated commercial series by Synthespian Studios.
