Backup codes let you disable two-step authentication on your account and log in if you can’t complete the authentication step. Keeping it secure is very important, your password and backup code can give someone full access to your account.
If you lost your backup code and can still log in to your account, generate a new code from your two-step authentication settings. Doing this will invalidate the old code.

Stripe will show you a backup code when you finish setting up two-step authentication. It’ll only be displayed once, so it’s important to write it down and keep it safe.

If you use a USB flash drive, we strongly recommend using a dedicated USB drive for backup codes and only plug it in when necessary. This makes it more difficult for malware to access the credentials.
