What’s in the Apple menu on Mac?

The Apple menu is located in the top-left corner of your screen. Click it to access System Settings and recently used apps, documents and other items.

Description

About This Mac

View information about your Mac, such as the macOS version, type of processor or chip and amount of memory. Click More Info for additional details and to optimise storage.

System Settings

Open System Settings to customise many of your Mac settings and update macOS.

App Store

Visit the App Store, where you can find interesting and fun apps for your Mac, and updates for apps, printers and more.

Recent Items

View a list of recent files, apps and network computers (servers) that you’ve used. As you use them, their names are added to the list so you can access them quickly in the future. See Open recently used items.

Force Quit

Choose this option if an app is not responding.

Important: If you force an app to quit, you may lose any unsaved changes.

Sleep

Dim the screen and reduce power consumption without turning off your Mac.

Restart

Turn your Mac off briefly, then have it immediately turn on again automatically.

Shut Down

Turn your Mac off completely.

Lock Screen

Immediately lock the screen when needed to keep your Mac and information secure. See Lock the screen of your Mac.

Log Out [user name]

Log out of the current user account without shutting down the Mac. This action is useful if you share your Mac with other users who have their own accounts.
