Change your journal settings on Mac

You can customise the settings for the Journal app ; for example, set a schedule for journalling, automatically add a location to new entries and more.

Open Journal for me

Add a title, date or current location to new journal entries

  1. Go to the Journal app on your Mac.

  2. Choose Journal > Settings > General, then do any of the following:

    • Add a title to new entries: Click the Add Entry Title pop up button, then choose Always, Only for Moments or Never.

    • Use the date from the moment as the entry date: Turn on Always Use Moment Date.

    • Add current location to new entries: Turn on Add Current Location.

Save photos and videos taken in Journal to the Photos app

  1. Go to the Journal app on your Mac.

  2. Choose Journal > Settings, then click General.

  3. Turn on Save to Photos.

Allow sharing from other apps

You can start journal entries by sharing attachments from other apps — like a song from the Music app or an article from the News app. To see the Journal app as a sharing option, add it to Login Items & Extensions.

  1. Go to the System Settings app on your Mac.

  2. Click General , then click Login Items & Extensions.

  3. Choose By App, then click the Show Detail button next to Journal.

  4. Turn on Sharing.

Turn Journal notifications on or off

  1. Go to the System Settings app on your Mac.

  2. Click Notifications , then click Journal.
