Cut, copy, and paste chords in Logic Pro for Mac

You can cut, copy, and paste chords on the Chord track and on Session Player regions. Using menu commands, you can copy all chords on a region and paste them to another region, paste chords from the Chord track to a region, and paste region chords to the Chord track.

Cut a chord

In Logic Pro, do one of the following:

  • Select the chord, then choose Edit > Cut (or press Command-X).

  • Control-click the chord, then choose Cut.

Note: When you cut a chord that is part of a chord group, the previous chord extends to fill the space occupied by the cut chord. If you cut the first chord of a chord group, the space is filled by a new instance of the following chord.

Copy a chord

In Logic Pro, do one of the following:

  • Select the chord, then choose Edit > Copy (or press Command-C).

  • Control-click the chord, then choose Copy.

Paste a cut or copied chord

  1. In Logic Pro, place the playhead at the position where you want to paste the chord.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Choose Edit > Paste (or press Command-V).

    • To paste the chord to the Chord track, Control-click the Chord track, then choose Paste.

    • To paste the chord to a Session Player Region, Control-click the region in the Session Player Editor, then choose Paste.

Note: Chords from the Chord track cannot be pasted to a Session Player region, and region chords cannot be pasted to the Chord track, except using the menu commands in the following tasks.

Copy and paste all chords from a region to another region

  1. In Logic Pro, select a Session Player region in the Tracks area.

  2. In the Session Player Editor menu bar, choose Chords > Copy All Region Chords.

  3. Select a different Session Player region in the Tracks area.

  4. In the Session Player Editor menu bar, choose Chords > Paste All Region Chords.

Apply chords from the Chord track to a region

  1. In Logic Pro, select a Session Player region in the Tracks area.

  2. In the Session Player Editor menu bar, choose Chords > Apply Chords from Global Track.

    The chords remain on the Chord track and are also added to the selected Session Player region, replacing any existing region chords.

Apply chords from a Session Player region to the Chord track

  1. In Logic Pro, select a Session Player region in the Tracks area.

  2. In the Session Player Editor menu bar, choose Chords > Apply Region Chords to Chord Track.

    The region chords are added to the Chord track, replacing any existing chords for the length of the region.
