Bounce a surround project in Logic Pro for Mac

In Logic Pro for Mac, you can bounce a surround mix directly to a single audio file that includes all the audio channels (left, center, right, left surround, and so on), also referred to as an interleaved audio file. A playback device must be able to read all the embedded audio channels in that file and route them to the proper audio outputs. Alternatively, you can choose the Split format to bounce the surround mix to multiple mono audio files, one file for each audio channel. When you do so, Logic Pro adds a unique filename extension, also referred to as a channel identifier (for example, .L, .R, .C, .LFE, and so on), to each file.

Note: In the Bounce Extensions settings, you can define filename extensions that are added to the files resulting from a surround bounce. See Set I/O Assignments and bounce extensions for surround projects.

Perform a surround bounce to AIFF, WAVE, or CAF files

  1. In Logic Pro, do one of the following:

    • Choose File > Bounce > Project or Section (or use the Bounce key command, default assignment: Command-B).

    • Click the Bounce button at the bottom-right corner of the surround master channel strip.

  2. Select the Uncompressed checkbox in the Destination list on the left.

  3. Select the Surround Bounce checkbox, below the Dithering pop-up menu in the Bounce window.

    Note: When the Surround Bounce checkbox is selected, the Add to Apple Music Library checkbox is deselected because Apple Music doesn’t support surround audio files.

  4. From the Format pop-up menu, choose either Split or Interleaved.

  5. Select other bounce settings, as required.

  6. Click the OK button.

  7. In the next dialog, enter a name for the file, navigate to the location you want to store it and click Bounce.

Note: You can’t use the Bounce command to create compressed surround files (AAC, MP3).

Perform a surround bounce to DVD-A

Logic Pro can burn a surround mix of the current project to a DVD-A (DVD-Audio) disc. This can be high definition stereo at 24-bit depth and 192 kHz sample rate or up to six channels (5.1) at 24-bit depth and 48 kHz sample rate.

  1. In Logic Pro, do one of the following:

    • Choose File > Bounce > Project or Section (or use the Bounce key command, default assignment: Command-B).

    • Click the Bounce button at the bottom-right corner of the surround master channel strip.

  2. Select the Burn to CD / DVD checkbox in the Destination list.

    A dialog indicates that you need to change settings. Click Proceed.

  3. Choose DVD-A from the Mode pop-up menu.

  4. Choose other bounce settings, as required.

  5. Click Burn.
