Set the pan law for a concert in MainStage

An audio signal panned to the center position sounds louder than when panned hard left or right due to the summing of two channels (L+R) compared to only one channel (L or R). The Pan Law value determines the amount of volume adjustments applied to audio to maintain an equal loudness when panning a signal across the stereo field. The selected volume offset is applied gradually when panning between the positions: left, right, and center.

Set the pan law

In the Channel Strips tab of the MainStage Concert Settings Inspector, choose one of the following pan law settings:
- 0 dB: With no change to the volume level, signals seem louder when panned to the center position, compared to extreme left or right pan positions.
- −3 dB: The signal level is reduced by 3 dB when panned from the left or right position to the center position.
- −3 dB compensated: The signal level is increased by 3 dB when panned from the center position to the extreme left or right positions.
- -4.5 dB: The signal level is reduced by 4.5 dB when panned from the left or right position to the center position.
- -4.5 dB compensated: The signal level is increased by 4.5 dB when panned from the center position to the extreme left or right positions.
- -6 dB: The signal level is reduced by 6 dB when panned from the left or right position to the center position.
- -6 dB compensated: The signal level is increased by 6 dB when panned from the center position to the extreme left or right positions.
