Navigate layers in the canvas in Pixelmator Pro on Mac

As you work on your document, you can zoom, pan, or rotate the canvas to focus on the big picture or smaller details.

Zoom the canvas using the Zoom tool

  1. In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, select the Zoom button in the Tools sidebar.

  2. Click in the canvas to zoom in, or press and hold the Option key and click in the canvas to zoom out.

    You can change the default action of the Zoom tool by selecting Zoom In or Zoom Out in the Zoom pane.

Note: If the image extends beyond the canvas borders, you can drag the rectangular overlay in the Navigator thumbnail to see more of the image.

  • In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, drag the Zoom slider in toolbar to the left to zoom out, or the right to zoom in.

Zoom the canvas using scrubby zoom

  1. In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, select the Zoom button in the Tools sidebar.

  2. In the Zoom pane, select Scrubby Zoom.

  3. Drag left in the canvas to zoom out, or drag right in the canvas to zoom in.

Scroll or pan an image

When the image in the canvas is larger than your workspace, you can pan in any direction to view different parts of the image.

In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, do any of the following:

  • Position the pointer over the canvas, then drag with two fingers on a Multi-Touch trackpad.

  • Choose Tools > Hand, then drag in the canvas. To exit the Hand tool, select a different tool in the Tools sidebar.

  • While pressing and holding the Space bar, drag in the canvas.

In some tools, such as Color Adjustments or Effects, the Hand tool is automatically enabled.

View an image at actual size

  • In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, choose View > Actual Size.

Fit an image to the workspace

  • In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, choose View > Zoom to Fit.

Rotate the canvas

It’s sometimes useful to rotate the canvas. Pixelmator Pro offers several ways to do this.

In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, do either of the following:

  • Position the pointer in the canvas, then rotate two fingers on a Multi-Touch trackpad.

  • While pressing and holding the Space bar and R key, drag in the canvas.

When you rotate the canvas, rotation controls appear in the lower-right corner of the canvas. You can drag the outer ring to adjust the rotation angle.

Tip: To constrain the rotation to 15° increments, press and hold the Shift key while you rotate.
