Control Spatial Audio and head tracking on Apple devices

You can learn more about Spatial Audio when you connect supported Beats to iPhone or iPad.

1. Wear your supported Beats and make sure they’re connected to your iPhone or iPad.

2. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings , then tap the name of your Beats near the top of the screen.

3. Under Spatial Audio, tap See & Hear How It Works, then follow the onscreen instructions.

You can use iPhone X or later to create a representation of your ear and head shape for Personalised Spatial Audio. Your Spatial Audio profile customises audio to better match how you hear sound, and syncs across your Apple devices with iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, macOS 13 or tvOS 16, or later, when you’re signed in to the same Apple Account.

1. Turn on your supported Beats, and make sure they’re connected to your iPhone.

2. On your iPhone, go to Settings , then tap the name of your Beats near the top of the screen.

3. Tap Personalised Spatial Audio, tap Personalise Spatial Audio, then follow the onscreen instructions.

1. Wear your Beats and make sure they’re connected to your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

2. Do one of the following:

   • iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings , then tap the name of your Beats near the top of the screen. Tap Personalised Spatial Audio, then tap Stop Using Personalised Spatial Audio.

   • Mac: Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click the name of your Beats in the sidebar, then click Stop Using Personalised Spatial Audio.

To use Personalised Spatial Audio again, you can set it up on your iPhone.

You can control Spatial Audio and head tracking for each supported app in Control Centre on iPhone or iPad.

1. Wear your supported Beats, and make sure they’re connected to your on iPhone or iPad.

2. Go to an audio app, then play something — for example, a song in the Music app .

3. Open Control Centre, touch and hold the volume control, then tap Spatial Audio.

4. Tap one of the following:

   • Off: Turns off both Spatial Audio and head tracking.

   • Fixed: Turns on Spatial Audio without head tracking.

   • Head Tracked: Turns on both Spatial Audio and dynamic head tracking, allowing your Beats to pan the audio based on the position of your head in relation to your iPhone or iPad. For example, if you turn your head to the left, the audio sounds like it’s coming more from the right.

     Note: If your audio source isn’t Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, the control is labelled Spatialise Stereo.

   The settings you choose are saved and applied automatically the next time you use that app. For example, if you tap Fixed while listening to a song in the Music app, the Fixed setting is automatically used the next time you play a song in that app.

You can use Spatial Audio and head tracking to make supported shows, movies and music sound like they’re coming from all around you (on Mac computers with Apple silicon and macOS 12.3 or later). You can turn Spatial Audio and head tracking on or off for each supported app.

1. Wear your supported Beats and make sure they’re connected to your Mac.

2. Click the Beats icon in the menu bar.

   If the Beats icon isn’t in the menu bar, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Menu Bar in the sidebar. Select Sound , then choose Always Show from the pop-up menu.

3. Choose one of the following below Spatial Audio:

   • Off: Turns off both Spatial Audio and head tracking.

   • Fixed: Turns on Spatial Audio without head tracking.

   • Head Tracked: Turns on both Spatial Audio and dynamic head tracking, allowing your Beats to pan the audio based on the position of your head in relation to your Mac. For example, if you turn your head to the left, the audio sounds like it’s coming more from the right.

     Note: If your audio source isn’t Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, the control is labelled Spatialise Stereo.

You can customise the Spatial Audio settings for each supported app using Control Centre on Apple TV 4K. You can also turn head tracking on or off for all apps. (tvOS 15.1 or later required.)

1. Wear your supported Beats and make sure they’re connected to your Apple TV 4K.

2. While watching a movie or TV show or listening to music, press and hold to open Control Centre, then navigate to the Beats icon (such as or ).

3. Select your Beats, select Spatial Audio, then select Head Tracked Fixed or Off.

   Note: If your audio source isn’t Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, select Spatialise Stereo, then select an option.

   The settings you choose are saved and applied automatically the next time you use that app. For example, if you turn on Spatial Audio while using the Apple TV app with your Beats, Spatial Audio automatically turns on the next time you use the that app with your Beats.
