What’s new in Motion

Motion 5.6.4 introduces new features and enhancements, detailed below.

Automatic color processing

Easily integrate SDR media, HDR media, and elements created in Motion (such as text, shapes, or generators) in the same project, with intelligent tone mapping to match your color space. Quickly preview Motion projects in different SDR and HDR color spaces. See Manage automatic color processing.

Create Final Cut templates (effects, generators, transitions, or titles) that automatically conform to the color space of a Final Cut Pro for Mac project. See Create templates that automatically conform to the Final Cut Pro color space.

HDR chroma keying

Use the updated, HDR-optimized Green Screen Keyer filter to isolate a foreground subject from a blue screen, green screen, or other color range; or use the updated, HDR-optimized Luma Keyer to generate mattes based on a selected range of lightness. See Intro to color keying.

Color Adjustments filter

Use the new Color Adjustments filter to create new looks or to adjust exposure, contrast, brightness, saturation, or highlights using simple sliders. Optimized for use in HDR projects, the filter includes a control that maps each slider to the specific luminance range of the image or clip you’re adjusting. See Color Adjustments filter.

HDR Tools filter improvements

Use the additional color space options in the HDR Tools filter to convert HDR or SDR media from one color space to another. See HDR Tools filter.

System requirements

The minimum system requirement is macOS Ventura 13.4. For more information, go to the Final Cut Pro tech specs webpage, then click Motion at the top of the page.
