Learn MIDI

With Learn MIDI you can assign faders, knobs, switches, and other hardware controls to app and plug-in parameters in Logic Pro. You can make assignments starting with either an onscreen control or a hardware control. Focused-track assignments are saved globally with the app that so you can use them in all your projects. Pinned assignments are saved locally with the project and can be used only in the project where the assignment was made. See Intro to Learn MIDI.

Capture an audio performance with Flashback Capture

You can capture your most recent audio performance even when Logic Pro is not recording. With Flashback Capture, you can capture audio on the focused track whenever the project is playing and an audio signal is present. See Capture a recent audio performance in Logic Pro for iPad.

Stem Splitter enhancements

With Stem Splitter, you can now extract stems for guitar and piano, for a total of six stems. Stem Splitter includes a variety of presets that you can use to quickly extract different combinations of stems. You can also combine multiple stems into a custom submix. See Extract vocal and instrumental stems with Stem Splitter.

New sound pack

The Dancefloor Rush sound pack is available to download from the Sound Library. See Download additional sound packs.

Other features

  • New Quantec Room Simulator parameters: The Quantec Room Simulator now features emulation of its original AD/DA converters, including a drive control and a new option to reverse the phase of the first reflection output. The Yardstick adds an Off option to its correlation pattern menu so that you can mute the reverb output channel independently of the dry and first reflection outputs. See Quantec Room Simulator.

  • Export button in the control bar: The control bar includes an Export button, giving you quick access to export options and the export process. Also, the Customize Control Bar options now include an Other section with switches to show and hide the Export, Undo, Redo, and Learn MIDI buttons. See Customize the control bar.

  • Search for and select tracks: You can search for and select a track by name using the Search and Select Track option in the More menu above the track headers (or using the corresponding key command). See Select tracks.

  • Normalize the gain of audio regions: You can nondestructively normalize the gain of audio regions in the Tracks area, and choose the type of processing and the method of normalization as well as the target level. See Normalize audio regions in the Tracks area.

  • Renaming tracks also renames regions with default names: Renaming a track also renames the regions on the track that have the track name as their region name. See Rename tracks.

  • Inspector parameters show units: Many parameters in the inspector now show units for their displayed values. These include the Gain, Transpose, Fine Tune, Delay, and Time values.

  • Duplicate tracks enhancement: The Duplicate Tracks button has dual functionality. It can be configured to duplicate a selected track with or without its content. See Duplicate tracks.

  • New lessons: The Lesson Browser includes a lesson for the Learn MIDI feature as well as a What’s New in Logic Pro 2.2 lesson. The Stem Splitter lesson has been revised to include enhancements to this feature. Also, the Lesson Browser features a search field, making it easy to search for lessons by name or description text.
